In the second segment we talked about when to stop knitting . . .

WHY YOU SHOULD NOT KNIT (OR STOP KNITTING)

You don't love it

You're not willing to make an investment

You can't knit, physically

You can't knit, for other reasons

WHY YOU SHOULD TAKE A BREAK FROM KNITTING

There may be times in your life where you don't feel the urge to
knit, and that's okay. Take a break, step back and regroup. We find
this happens in these types of situations.

You've just finished knitting a big project, and you're mentally and physically drained

You've got a crisis in your life

You've had a forced exile from knitting

You've got something wonderful going on in your life that you need to focus on

Episode 27 Show Notes - Uncharted Territory

Welcome to our Episode 27 of our podcast in which we talked about . . .

In the second segment we talked about our knitting with charts . . .

How to Read a Chart

For flat knitting, usually odd numbered rows are read right to left
and even numbered rows are either omitted from the chart because
they're all purls, or are read left to right.

For knitting in the round, read all rows right to left

Don't assume! Look at the pattern for any special instructions (remember Kate's cabled slippers?).

Keeping Track with a Chart

Highlighters

A charity knitting project for HelpSudan, sponsored by WendyKnits

In the second segment we talked about our knitting for our minds, bodies, and spirits . . .

MIND

Studies indicate that knitting may slow the onset of Alzheimer's in seniors

Stretch your mind

take on challenging new patterns

design your own patterns

improve your techniques and learn new ones (cast on's, bind off's, methods)

memorize the pattern you're working on

make calculations to allow for yarn substitutions

     Kitchener Chant

BODY

Short-row shaping - works wonders for adding extra fabric where you need it

Bust-darts - Knitting Daily's tutorial

customizing length - have a long or short torso? Add or subtract rows as necessary

Knitting a size not in the pattern

SPIRIT

Knitting lifts our spirits when we're down

Knitting calms our spirits when we're impatient, waiting, or worried

Knitting helps us to step beyond our comfort zone in social situations like knit-ins

Knitting helps us to slow down and quiet ourselves

Knitting helps us to develop a generous spirit

Prayer knitting allows us to pray over someone with every single stitch

Using the drop-down menu, choose "Knit Together" and check the box next to activity types for "added project photo." This shows all the projects added to the KT group!

Another aside tip: you can add this view to your favorite RSS reader by clicking the RSS button - the little orange box. It will filter this view and update your RSS feed when a new project is added! If you want to add your project to the group, just navigate to your project page and choose Knit Together from the groups drop-down menu on the right.

Kate's Top 16 Favorites

Arielluria's Dog's Fisherman Knit Sweater

WenDen's Mongo BYOB

knittingmomofsix's Child's tunic

tabitha's Mother's Day Bath set

<a id="uf-7" title="Clarify's James'
New Location

In light of Kate's upcoming move, next week we are going to try meeting at Schweitzer United Methodist Church, 2747 E. Sunshine, Springfield, MO 65804. Zarah is helping coordinate the move, and says to park and come in the main front doors and the Book Nook is right there - a comfy room with couches to hang out and knit on Thursdays. So if you have been coming regularly, don't forget about the change, and let others know, and if you haven't come yet, this would be a good time to join us for the first time!
