So we have a little dyeing:

and we have a little knitting:

I promise, there will be more soon.

New Year............

New yarn! Introducing Continental Cat. This new base yarn is a 6 ply light fingering/heavy lace weight yarn of 100% Superwash Merino. It's 6 beautiful plys with a smooth twist and the best part is there is 750 yards on each skein. That means you only need one skein for a perfect little shawl.
We've only put a few in the shop at the moment but we'll be dyeing up some more in semi-solid shades. I think mine will be purple or maybe pink or maybe grey........
I have a million and one things I want to knit, and probably thousands of skeins (and yes, I am exaggerating).
I'm trying to finish up a hat for Miss P, and a couple pairs of socks for gifts, but other than that my thoughts are of all the cardigans I want to knit. More on that later.

So tomorrow we'll be updating the shop with with some Twinkle Cat in DK weight. This is so scrumptous. 75% Merino and 20% Silk and 5% sparkly. Perfect for cowls and mitts and specials scarves.

This design by Romi has to be one of my favorite knits. I knew I wanted to do it in our yarn and in one of my favorite bases, Stray Cat.
And as BossCat can tell you I want something in every base in her signature colourway "Misty Highland".
This project would have flew off the needles if I hadn't put it aside to finish other stuff, but alas it took a little longer than expected.

Then one day at work I found out that a very sweet co-worker of mine's sister has been stricken with colon cancer. She and her sister are very close, and I feel so bad for her to have to go through this. She has made ribbons in the signature colours of blue and brown to show support, and a light bulb went off. My shawl was blue and brown. Obviously a sign, I handed her the shawl to give to her sister in hopes it would give a little bit of support and warmth when needed.
This isn't the first time one of my shawls have been passed on, and even though it makes me very happy to pass on a little joy to someone who really needs a hug, it also makes me a little sad to see it go.
Now I'm off to decide what shawl to make next................

I'm still here

I haven't been much in the mood to blog lately, with work and dyeing yarn and knitting, and Ravelry, my blog seems to get left on the back burner. So I'll just do a little catch up this week while I've got a few more days off work.
I finished a few projects up, first up my Lacy Edge Cardi that was sitting in a basket with just the lace bands to do. BossCat finally lit a fire under my butt and I got it done.
I had a small issue with it once I went to block it. Like several other ravellers the yarn bled so bad I thought I would loose all the tweedy effect of the yarn.

So I persevered and rinsed and rinsed and rinsed, and finally got it blocked and put together.
Wavy Lace Edge Cardigan

I did write to Sirdar and let them know about the yarn, and they told me that sometimes this happens when the yarn is processed. I'm not sure I trust that because I know about dyeing yarn and yes sometimes you get some bleeding but if it's processed properly and checked and rinsed there should be very little. I think this batch was missed. Anyhow they sent my another bag of yarn to replace it. I picked a different colourway and fingers crossed that I don't have the same problem.

What's new...........

"Little Nicky" and I are getting acquainted this week.
It's nice to finally see some of these knit up instead of sitting on the shelf being admired from afar. And don't worry there will be lots more.
As always we have some new yarns in the shop.......

There is also some lovely Twinkle Cat drying as I write. Stay tuned, I have one more week off work.

Inspiration and Relaxation......

I always feel rejuvenated once I get back from camp. I seem to get pumped up about finishing up forgotten projects so I can get started on some new ones. Most of this is from looking at my basket overflowing with WIP's, so now is the time to get down to business.
I did take some time to play with my CSM and knocked off a couple pair of socks. These are very gratifying just when I feel like I'm getting no where.
I followed a suggestion from a friend and cranked out a sock blank then dyed it up.

Then I re-knit it on my CSM and this is how they turned out. I love them, but I have a funny feeling BossCat may try to snitch them on me. All the details can be found on my project page on Ravelry.

The second pair.

The third pair are hand knit and I finished them at Camp. This is one of our own self-stripers in Alley Cat, colourway is Desire. I have to say that Alley Cat is one of my favorite bases.

So now it's back to that basket, hopefully they won't take too long, because I have lots of things I need to get down on paper.

Letters from Camp...........

It's nice to be home but man I didn't want to leave camp.
Then BossCat and I are off to Knit Camp for the weekend, and if we're not having too much fun, we'll post some pictures.

So what's new........

Things are going well in the dye studio, BossCat came yesterday and dye up some yummy stuff. One I will definitely be keeping for myself.
I took a giant step forward and dye a sweater quantity of Top Cat DK for myself and I am totally in love. I don't think anyone can have too much gray.

My Magpie shawl is almost finshed,

I just got a little side-tracked with "little Nicky".

My first pair of completed socks, with a couple of minor boo-boos, but hey, I'm learning from my mistakes.

This was a project I had been working on for the last several months for Sheila of Wool2Dye4. She has started The Honeysuckle Project to raise awareness for Breast Cancer and asked if we would like to participate, so of course how could we not.

She will be at the Sock Summit 20ll, where she is displaying the patterns and projects donated by all participants. I understand the website will be up and running the first week of August, but you can check out any upcoming information on her Ravelry group.
So in honor of her efforts and continue with her generous work I will also be selling my pattern and donating all the proceeds to charity.
You can purchase it on Ravelry or here on my pattern page.
First: I finished up the baby hoodie that I'm trading for some yarn.

This is my own design, and I wanted to knit it again so I could familiarize myself with it again so I can get it published with some other sizes. This one is in some Sirdar Snuggly I had in my stash, so I was happy to use some up.
Next: I made a little progress on my Taygete shawl by Romi, I'm finally getting the lace section close to the end

I'm also on the back of Julie's next project, I'll get some photos this week. Plus I managed to dye up some new stripey yarns for the shop. We'll be having an update in the next couple of weeks. I'd like to get a few more done this week, because I have 2 young visitors coming to stay for a week and I don't think I'm going to get very much done on the knitting front.

So this is what she came up with...

The only one's that have a name are the pink ones which are Wisteria Lane.
She did several Barn Cat in Misty Highland which some have already been sold. I love the way these always come out. No two are the same. I'm going to ask her to do a couple in House Cat for me for a particular shawl I want to do. More on that on another day.

and a top secret project that I'll explain later, but I'll give you a sneak peek.
He usually does a little around the house and spends the rest of his time fishing. Today, this is what I came home to, his annual reseeding of the back yard, and he has to come up with some kind of deterrent to keep the Lady dog off of it. Last year it was some kind of netting that the DOG ended up jumping through several times, so this year he decided to do something a little different.
Check this out.........I feel like I'm living at Green Acres.
There were no plans for long drives to far away cottages on this first long weekend of the summer season, just a nice quiet relaxing one at home. Between the endless roar of lawnmowers throughout the neighbourhood, you could still hear all the sounds of mother nature coming through loud and clear.
Morning Doves, Blue Jays, endless Sparrows and the odd little Finch. There were winds howling, sun shining, thunder rolling off and on, the pop, whistle and crack of fireworks every evening and one sad Lady dog hiding in the closet most nights.
I wound up yarn for stripes, I dyed yarn for future projects, and I packaged up yarn to ship out to other knitters. In between all that I managed to get some knitting done on 3 different WIP's.
Mr "D" ended off with a couple of roast chicken breast with stuffing, summer squash and sweet potatoes. What more could a girl ask for.
I think I found my "Rapture".
So with the long week-end here, my thoughts are only about knitting and dyeing. Tomorrow is supposed to be a fine day in S. Ontario so I think I will take full advantage of my back yard deck and lots of tea and knitting.
Last week-end was a rainy miserable one and Mr. "D" and I spent Sunday driving around and hitting some of our favorite antique shops. I had no plans to buy anything but Mr "D" found these in a corner and I couldn't resist.
We've been sitting on it for awhile, because we were talking about dyeing it just for ourselves and then decide if we would stock it in the shop.
Well, we haven't had a chance to knit any yet only because we're too busy fondling it and imagining it in a sweater. So I took it upon myself (executive decision) and dyed up a little for hats and mitts so everyone else could see how scrumptious this yarn really is.

And on the knitting front, I've started a new cardigan for Julie....more on that later when I get a little further, and BossCat and I are working on a top secret project that we just can't reveal at the moment, but we'll let you know very soon.
If you don't hear from me for a couple of days (I know that's not unusual), I haven't gone far, I'm just in the studio playing with colour.

Summer Stitch-a-long!

Boss Cat and I had so much fun with out last KAL at Chez Wandering Cat, we've decided to start another one for the summer. I think summer is the best time for knitting socks, they're small, generally knit up quick, and you can work on them comfortably in hot weather.
But we know not everyone likes to knit socks like we do so, we've decided to include any project as long as it starts with "S", and knit with WCY.
So here are the details and obligatory "Cat in Knits" picture:

Wandering Cat “S”ummer “S”titch-a-long --Dates: May 23rd- September 5th 2011.

Projects must be knit or crocheted in Wandering Cat Yarn.

Project type must start with the letter “S” (ie socks, shawls, sweaters, stoles, scarves, skirts.. even snails. If it begins with an “S” - you’re good!)

Projects must be completed between May 23rd -- Sept 5th, but can be started before May 23rd.(so if you have already started something as long as it is finished on May 23rd or after or after you can enter it.)

Tag your projects with yearofthecat

Each completed project = one entry. Enter as many times as you like

FOs that are also knit from a Wandering Cat pattern will get an extra entry.

Prizes:
There will be three prize kits, drawn at random from all entries.

Shawl Prize Kit - Any Wanderingcat or redknitz shawl pattern, and enough yarn to complete it. Yarn base is in weight corresponding to pattern, but is choice of winner (from bases in stock at the time) - custom dyed to semi-solid shade of winners choice.

Sock Prize Kit - Any Wanderingcat or redknitz sock pattern, and enough yarn to complete it.
