Crochet pillows

As you might have read, I was crochetting a granny square blanket to match our blue couch. Well, that’s already quite some time ago and the project seemed to become endless, especially with the newborn on its way. So I decided to use the granny squares that I made to make some pillow cases. I’m also working on a storage bag for the newborns playpen using the same yarn and granny square type to match our babies playpen to the rest of our living room.

Only the front of the pillowcase is made out of granny squares. I sewed the pillow lease itself using a grey IKEA fleece plaid and I sewed the granny square piece on top. Luckily, our sweet cat is never to shy to help working on a nice and cosy crochet project :) I used a regular IKEA pillow as filling, which I actually also always use to stuff animals and other knit and crochet projects.

As the kids and the animals all plat around with our pillows, I noticed that the pillow case tended to open a bit and show the while stuffing. I closed it of with grey KAM snaps.

I made two of them now, ofcourse the second one also together with our cat:

Crochet toddler blanket

When visiting the US last year, I stashed up on Red Heart and Caron yarns to make presents for our kids. For the youngest I almost finished a crochet toddler blanket in white and hues of blue. To make it more interesting for our two year old, I added on an elephant face.

There was just one think that I didn’t quite realise... Hoe much time it would actually take me to weave in all of those ends... I’m almost finished now but at the start it really seemed endless. And after that, I just need to steamblock the blanket and add my designer label to it, and then my latest gift is finished!

Crochetting a stuffed animal on the go

During our drive back from Paris, I started crochetting a stuffed animal to decorate the playpen of our little one that is on the way (counting down... 10 weeks left :)). I want to make a colorful fantasy animal that in the same colors as our playpen storage bags which I’m making from granny squares.

Growing granny square throw

My granny square throw is getting bigger and bigger! I’m at 1/3th of the planned size now (15 x 12 squares), but maybe I ll make the throw a little bigger. The squares are really nice to make, especially because they are small projects that you can take along when you travel of visit family. Joining the squares on the other hand is rather tideous and it takes much more time than I expected. But... I love the result! And I even bought some more of the same yarn to make 2 or 3 matching pillows.

Crochet was something I only used to join the pieces of my knitting projects, but the more I m crochetting, the more I like it... Much more versatile than I thought ☺️

Granny square throw

Although I usually prefer knitting, I chose to crochet a granny square throw for once. I used a simple granny square pattern resembling the traditional granny square pattern, which is almost identical except for the openings in de corners. I’ve finished about 1/4th of the squares and crochet them together in one direction. The throw looks a little schrappy because I havent finished the seams that run in the other direction yet, but I wanted to show you this work in progress anyway :)

Hat knitting

It has been quite a while, but I have recently picked up knitting again..: Now I’m using this nice and soft blue and gray wool/acrylic yarn mix to knit a simple rib stitch hat. Can’t wait to finish this tiny project ☺️

Raspberry stitch cardigan

A girl can never have enough cardigans, right? :) I just love knitting and wearing them... I bought some purple yarn about a month ago to make a simple cardigan... It's turning out well and it actually fit me the first time round. I guess I am getting better at this :p (and maybe a bit more patient too).

Sorry for the picture, the color is not at all what it looks like here, it's really vibrant purple. I'll take a better one when the sleeves are finished.

What also helped me a lot with this project is this great tutorial from Tasha at bygumbygolly.com ( http://bygumbygolly.com/2013/10/how-to-knit-seamless-set-in-sleeves-from-the-top-down/)

I'm going to use this method for all of my projects from now on! Works out very well.

Almost finished!

And it should be, because Autumn has really started over here right now. But it is nice to be indoors and knit a bit when the weather outside is cold and windy...

I sewed two buttons onto the neckwarmer. They are fake, because I forgot the buttons holes. But it's not really a problem because the neck warmer is big enough to fit over nu head with ease. I steam blocked the brim. When it's completely dry I'll post a picture of the neck warmer 'in action' :-)

I finished the knitting part. Well, i had to because i ran out of yarn :) So now i only have to weave in the ends and sew on some buttons. I added some extra length at the bottom of the neckwarmer to tugg into my coat.

Oversized cardigan

Knitting the front panels of my oversized cardigan. I want to have drop shoulder sleeves. I think it looks good with the slightly baggy look, and it is easy to knit... Eventhough the double seed stitch is time consuming, I really like the relief of the pattern. So far, so good! Happy knitting!

Swatching for a new cardigan

I bought some coral colored yarn about a month ago to make a sweater or a cardigan. I decided I would like to have a cozy, slightly oversized, easy to knit cardigan. So I got some skeins from the same lot, and started swatching...

I tried several knit and purl patterns. I found seed stitch to messy and moss stitch to square, so I decided to go with double seed stitch:

A floppy sun hat is a classic winter look, so why not try this knit version of it! It is a quick knit and it is easy to adjust to any head size. Wanted to share some pics of my new winter hat with you. I happy with the way it turned out and it is definitely something else than the regular beanie or beret :)
I m still working on the pattern for this one and the slouchy beanie and I hope to finish it soon.

Matching scarf... Or neck warmer?

Ofcourse i need a matching scarf for my new hat. But when i checked my stash i realized that i had only one 250 meter scein left... Oh no... So i decided that i ll just make a neck warmer... I've knitted about a third now and it's looking good for now...

Just a quick update on my sun hat project. Its looking good now, and even more important: it fits. So I'm putting some some electrical wire in the brim to make it firm. It's also nice because it allows you to bend the hat into any shape. I'm still working on the cable band which i want to use as decoration.

And... I took notes, so i can turn this one into a pattern as well :)

Knitted floppy hat... Things are looking bright again

I'm happy about my winter hat project again. I was a little disappointed previously because the pieces didn't come together nicely, so I changed my plans, and now it looks quite good I think. I do want to add a piece of wire to make the brim a little stiffer and add a band made of the reversible cable that I worked on last week.

Re-stashing day

Yesterday, I went to our local market to buy some fabric and other supplies. I didn't buy any fabric (which I regret now, because I did see some nice heavy cotton, so I'm probably going to the market again next Friday :)). I did buy some yarn. I want to use the pink yarn to knit a loose fitting Granny cardigan to wear on cold days.

The blue (I just love the color) baby yarn would be perfect for a lacy winter cardi or sweater.

Wow, I spend so much time working last few weeks that I really didn't have a lot of time to knit...So, I decided to take Friday off and knit a bit. And visit our weekly market, buy some yarn, buy some fabric, buy some buttons, anything.

And I'm going to try to fix all the annoying little problems that I have with my knitting projects that keep me from finishing them.

Haven't worked on my blue sweater anymore since my sleeve problem... And I just need to finish it :D Because besides the sleeve thing, it's a nice sweater.

And... I started on the new winter set I was knitting swatches for before. I want to make a loop scarf, a floppy winter hat, and maybe even some gloves. There were not a lot of examples of knitted floppy winter hats on google,... Maybe that should have warned me that it isn't very easy to knit it, but I started anyway.

I started of with the reversible cable, and the top of the hat. I think the top part is too short for me, but I could fix that later so I just continued.

And then I started working on the brim, sideways and with short rows. Both pieces look fine, but for some reason it doesn't really look like I want it too. So for now, I decided to continue with the brim, and do the top part of the hat over, because it didn't really fit anyway.

New winter set idea: a red floppy hat, scarf and gloves to wear with my new black coat. I loves cables, but i really want my scarf to look good on both sides, so decided to try reversible cables. The braid on the right side is 3 x 5 sts wide (k1, p1, k1, p1, k1).

Everything was going well with my new sweater project... But now i have a small problem. I finished my first sleeve, put the pieces together and i m not completely satisfied with the fit op the sleeve cap. I think its not rounded off well enough, so it appears to be a little square, as if there are schoulder paddings in there. But its only a small problem (i hope) and i can take the sleeve cap apart again and re-shape the sleeve. I started on the second sleeve anyway, because the bottom part of the sleeve fits well.

It also didnt help that i forgot my knitting bag at my parents place. So i couldn't knit for a few days and my sweater is very wrinkled now from being stuffed into a bag for days...

I don't think I ever knitted a sweater this fast. After the finishing my lace summer sweater successfully I'm really getting into this sweater knitting thing! I never liked big projects like sweaters, blankets or even scarfs, because I always lost my interest in it and never finished anything. But things changes, because wearing my new lace sweater really makes me want to finish this one as well. And I seemed to have found a way to knit a fitting sweater, so that's motivating as well :D.

But... back to the project... I finished the front and back panel and I closed the side and shoulder seams, so it's really starting to look like something now :).

Can't wait to finish the first sleeve!

My new summer sweater!

I still owed you some photos of my finished lacy summer sweater. I finished it some weeks ago, and I've actually worn it already a few times. I'm very happy with the color and the fit, and I'm considering to knit another one with long sleeves. I didn't really keep track of the pattern but I should be able to manage I think :).

It was the first time I used the picot edging technique, and I absolutely love it, especially on the neck line. I'll definitely use it again on my new projects.

Blue glitter sweater - Quite a quick knit

My new winter sweater is progressing quickly!  I really like the bottom part with the garter stitch stripes, which has the same striping pattern as the sleeve. I've already reached that magical point of the start of the arm holes for the front panel, and the back panel is almost at the same level. I finished the side seaming of the panels, to make sure that the sweater will fit, as I had some problems with seaming garments at the last moment in the past :). It seems to fit well :D.

Starting on the sleeve

I wanted to experiment a little with the garter and stockinette stitch variation pattern, so I started with the sleeves for this project, simply because the rows are shorter. In the end I decided to go with a striping garter stitch pattern with the garter rows becoming narrower towards the top of the sleeve.

I m sorry for the awkward picture, but i couldn't find a better way to take this picture :).

My plan is to leave the sleeve for what it is and start knitting the front and back panel with the same striping pattern in it. I hope this will become a warm and simple, but interesting winter sweater. Maybe with a little vintage feel, but not too much. Wait... Can knitwear ever be too much vintage? :) Maybe not.

And... It's time to start thinking about a new winter wear set!

Swatching for my new sweater

I m planning to knit a new winter sweater. I got the same yarn that i used for the black glitter cardigan in blue.

I want it to be a simple sweater, with a little bit of waist shaping and a boat neck. To have some kind of intesting detail, I want to do some garter stitch striping. In the picture you can see the swatches for garter stitch, stockinette stitch and a mix of the two from left to right.
