Hi Anthony!

I've never had a filled King Cake that was braided. That probably because the cream cheese and/or fruit filling is a lot messier than the cinnamon sugar. It's relatively easy to take the dough, brush a little melted butter on it, sprinkle cinnamon sugar on that, and roll it up like you're going to make cinnamon rolls (only braiding the resulting cylinders rather than slicing them as you would for cinnamon rolls). But when you put that thick filling on it, it's kind of squishy. I guess it's possible to do, dividing the filling roughly into thirds, putting some on each piece of dough and rolling it up jelly-roll style. You might have a lot of filling ooze out that way. I say go ahead and double the dough so you can make two. The first one might end up being "just for practice"!

So I am going to take a dive into King Cake baking this year. I'm very excited and looking forward to the challenge. I am planning to do a cream cheese and blueberry filling but I see here, and other places online, that the cream cheese and fruit filling cakes are all shaped simply into a jellyroll-esque cylinder and then circle or oval. I REALLY want to braid mine with the cc and fruit filling...any suggestions on this? Thanks for your time and recipe!!

Cap'n - they are at my office, not here in the house. Used to listen to him but his callousness and arrogance wore quite thin before too long.

Laurel - so glad you can still stop by and read! I've been following your schedule via your web site and blog. I'm so glad things are so busy for you, with JaLaLa and other projects. (BTW got the JaLaLA CD for Christmas and it is wonderful!) Always wonderful to have you stop by and comment.

"God helps those who help themselves" is a quote from Benjamin Franklin, not from scripture, and is the most frustrating faux-verse, because it is tossed around all the time. What IS in the Bible, over and over, is the promise that God is with us as we help each other.
Thank you for posting this wonderful sermon.
Blessings, Laurel

It would seem that the sociological argument that there will always be a poor section of town would square with the duty of Christian charity, but for some reason the "help yourself" justification for neglect rears its head among many.

You allow Rush's books in your house?!?

I would like to chat with you about your haggadah. Longer story than what belongs here, but please email me, I suspect you may be able to help me out (with very little effort on your part) and I would VERY much appreciate that.

Got to your website while searching for a source for Ziradryl lotion. Amen to your sermon. This year I asked everyone what is the most important thing about Christmas. As each of them gave me various answers I told them, "Nope, Easter." Thanks for your message.
P.S. If you know of a place I can order Ziradryl lotion please Email me at (e-mail removed by blog owner to protect commenter's privacy).

Here's a funny story. Our church rents a building from another church (we meet earlier on Sunday morning than they do), and we had a Christmas Eve communion service. When we got there to set up, there was a hideously ugly plastic baby doll up front that looked like a leftover from the 1960s. So we moved it. And forgot to move it back...
The next Sunday there were very angry old ladies from the church we rent from, demanding to know why we moved Jesus, and if we were even Christians at all! Our pastor tried to explain that, of course we're Christians, we were there for a Christmas communion service, but that wasn't enough for the church ladies. We had moved the Baby Jesus!!! :P
