Honestly, to me GitHub is like history. You – not a history enthusiastic like me- just knows the name and that’s all nothing else. In tech community it is a name that is heard by all. But the students who have recently have their foot in the tech community have no or less knowledge about it. This little guy must be understood by all. So let’s go!!!.

What is GitHub?

It is Hub of Git. Simple right. I know you will ask then what is git? so here is the definition:

“Git is a free and open source distributed version control system designed to handle everything from small to very large projects with speed and efficiency.”

I know I know... a lots of heavy words here. Don’t worry it just look scary, let me put it in this way – Git is a place where you can:

upload your code
do changes in the code
let people access your code if needed

Distributed version control system

By the word distributed you may got the idea that it is not centralized system, It is a type of version control system where the complete code (including its full version history) is accessible from everyone’s computer.

It is a type of software tool that looks into the changes done in the source code over time and keeps the history of every change occurred in it.

I hope you get the idea. Now the important question is “How it can benefit the Students?“. Obviously, this reason you are reading the article right.

hmm….What if I tell you that you can increase your probability to get in your Dream Company. Seriously no kidding.

For the students GitHub is a platform where you can upload your projects but not only that you can also look for people working on similar projects and work along with them. This will be a great learning for you and let you have the experience of real world.

Contributing to an open source is such great exposure to one. Also if you have contributed in a project then you will be marked as one of the contributor according to the amount of work you have done in the project. Contributor in a project really feels nice. By all of this you gain experience and become Mature!!

All of this, you can put in your resume and believe me company will be impressed to read your projects and contribution. And thus increases your chances because your are mature now and everybody love mature people right.

Important

Just staring putting codes in GitHub don’t wait for some miracle to happen. Whatever you code, even if it’s a simple pattern question just put it on GitHub. Maybe someone is looking for your patterns for reference. Remember, you don’t have to perfect before starting anything.
