Thank goodness the embarrassment is over about admitting you’re looking for a man on-line. After all, even Martha Stewart is now on Match.com!

As a branding expert, I’ve been on and off-line for the past 10 years looking for my ideal mate. I’ve even been hired by my clients to write their profiles. And, after all of these years and successfully finding and marrying my man (It will be one year on May 26, 2013), please let me share with you how to create a smokin’ hot profile that attracts your ideal man…while still being true to your brand:

1. Be Your Authentic You – Sounds easy, right? BUT, most women write profiles for who they want to be, not who they are. If your favorite TV show really is Downton Abbey, please share that. If you can’t stand football, better to ‘fess up now. Me? I play a mean game of tennis, read trashy murder mysteries, and admit to watching NCIS, The Good Wife and every single singing and dancing competition on air.
2. Use Your Brand Vocabulary – Each of us has a unique way of speaking with our favorite words and phrases. Use them! Throw away the need to be prim and proper and instead, just spit it out. In my case, I invent words for fun and for a living so I let potential mates know that I have courage, chutzpah, cajones, and even “vajones!”
3.  Share your Hit List and Your S*hit List – Advice givers always advocate writing a profile to appeal to your target mate, but they forget they you also want to repel someone who is not a good fit. I boldly shared that this “fair, red-haired gal wilts in the sun” intentionally to subvert sun worshippers, life guards, and visions of bronzing in the South of France.
4. Remember that Specifics are Terrific – Generalities in profiles don’t work; they don’t provide the reader with enough information to make a decision. For example, if you really like to travel, don’t write that! Tell me about Rome, your favorite café in Paris, the coolest museum in Athens, the crazy camel ride in Haifa. Now, your prospect can glom onto something to determine if you and he are a good fit. Make sense?
5. Make Your Profile Funner – Flirting is fun and you should be too. My husband quickly got the joke when I wrote that as a mom who shares joint custody, “I vacillate between hot mama and soccer mama.”
6. Remain Consistent – Don’t change your mind mid-stream! Be YOU throughout all of your flirting, calls, voice mails, texts, and emails. It is the same sexy you that he wants to hear in the middle of dating that he heard at the beginning. Or, if you are the introverted type, please don’t change! Men, just like all people, just want to know what to expect.

I see this topic coming up in the keywords through which women find
this site and I thought this would be interesting to write about. First
of all, let me tell you that I’m no expert at dating. I’ve been with
the same person for 20 years, so I don’t have to dress to impress for a
special date. But I certainly do have an opinion on the subject, so if
you’re interested then read on!

First of all congratulations on your date! Whatever the circumstances,
it’s wonderful to date at any age, but I can imagine that it is really
interesting when you are 40. By that time you already have so much life
experience and you know what you want (I hope). You can potentially
have amazingly interesting conversations.

Dressing for confidence, 5 key things to remember!

Let’s assume that you are meeting someone for a date for the very first
time. Your objective will be to get to know this person and also to
make a good first impression. Here are some of my tips:

1. You will want to show this person
the real you. So dress to express who you are. Showing and
feeling confidence will make you the most attractive. You will feel far
more confident, if you dress in something that makes you feel
comfortable but that also makes you feel sexy. It you know your style
statement, then that can help you in making sure that the outfit
expresses the real you.

2. Don’t go too sexy! I’m a
firm believer that you look far more appealing and sexy if you show
less. You also don’t want o look to ‘willing’ on a first date. Better
to keep things a bit mysterious.

3. Go for something comfortable.
Something you will feel totally relaxed in. Comfortable does not mean
ill fitting or unflattering. Make sure your outfit fits you well, but
stays in place. Nothing is more unsettling that having to fiddle with
your bra straps, or making sure that your skirt stays in place.

4. Opt for something you have worn
before and that you know you feel great in. As mentioned, you
want to show confidence and concentrate on getting a great
conversation. You do not want to worry about a new outfit that just
doesn’t feel right.

5. Choose your underwear wisely. If
you followed the tips above, you will probably not wear anything too
tight or uncomfortable, so choose some nice looking underwear (no need
for shape wear!) that matches. Knowing that you are wearing some
wonderful underwear, may just give you that extra glow and confidence.

Some of the outfits I would recommend

1. Well fitted black or cobalt blue pants with a well fitted skirt that
you have buttoned all the way up. Decorate with a nice collar (see some
nice examples at Anne Fontaine)

2. Lose fitting jersey dress with great draping. Comfortable and it
covers all of your ‘problem’ areas if you have them.

3. Tight jeggings or snug pants and a tunic. Combine with a hat for
that extra touch!

I hope these tips help. If you are having a date coming up, I hope it

There are a lot of different books, styles and games about dating. People tend to get mystified while dating. You can approach it a couple ways in my opinion.

I believe it is wise to approach dating from a spiritual place and in a more meaningful way if you want to have deeper, richer connections.

Being light hearted helps you to have fun and enjoy the experience while having boundaries.  This helps you not to invest too much into someone you don’t know and decreases possible disappointment.

The most important things I’ve found through my research are:

1) To know yourself and what you want.

2) Be clear and committed.

3) Don’t confuse yourself or let others confuse you.

4) Ask intelligent questions and get to know the person for who they are.

5) Wait for your soul mate.

Our biggest human need is to be loved and accepted. Make sure you start with yourself and give that gift to others. You can always make a new friend if it’s not your match.

You’re in a movie house, watching a great thriller and it’s the climax scene and the girl is about to blow away this creepy guy who’s been torturing her the whole movie, he killed her whole family, her friends,and dog. SHE is just about to send him to kingdom come and out of the corner of your eye you can see the glare of someone’s cell phone!!!

What about the woman who got thrown off AMTRAK for talking 6 hours straight on her phone in the No Cell Phone car????????  She must have had quite a few extra batteries with her!

Well I say, ENOUGH! Put away your PDAs! Your Droids, iPhones, Your Blackberries! You can be disconnected for 15, 20 minutes, maybe even a full half hour without becoming a social outcast!

No, really, just think- you can actually have a conversation with one person at a time! OR, even more bizarre, you can be so totally absorbed in an activity there’s no need to Tweet everyone to tell them what you are doing!

True gratification is not measured by the number of people who know what you’re doing at any given moment! And let me mention something else, just because it says you have 1,400 friends on Facebook, you don’t REALLY have 1,400 friends!

Some people suffer from a condition called, “I have to check my phone every five minutes because I’m afraid I’ll miss something!” I’m not putting down staying connected, all the social networking sites are useful for staying in touch with family and friends. But SERIOUSLY how meaningful is it for them to know that you like Kim Kardashian?  Or that Ralph’s is out of your favorite salad mix!!!!  OMG!

In a recent survey, 40% of those questioned said they’d rather give up sex than their cell phones! Another interesting survey tibit- 1 out of every 8 people fake using their cell phones to avoid talking to people!

I think, as a society, we are learning to live vicariously through technology!

Second Life- your own existence is too boring, you can live a more exciting life through an avatar of your very own creation! In a cubicle eight hours a day?  With World of Warcraft or Grand Theft Auto you can let your testosterone out to play! Too busy to let nature take its course, eHarmony, Match.com, or Plenty of Fish will line them up for you!

I would like to make a case for human contact. Good, old fashioned one on one, face to face, no airbrushing, zits and all, human contact! I know I’m not going to turn back the clock and erase all of these great gadgets that we have all become accustomed to, or shall I say, dependent on. I just want to remind everyone that spontaneous combustion cannot take place when your head is down checking out the latest posting on Facebook!

There’s nothing to compare with that flutter in your stomach when you’re sitting across from someone you’re interested in and wondering do they feel the same way too? I believe our preoccupation with instant communication is a beast that is getting bigger and bigger because we keep feeding it! Just think- 100 years ago you had to wait for the pony express to deliver that letter from your beloved letting you know how they felt about you!

Call me old fashioned but I’m not quite sure I know how to flirt with my blackberry! A blackberry can’t make those nuanced responses which signal I’m thoroughly intoxicated by what you’re saying, tell me more. Wait, I think there just might be an icon for I (cross my legs, lean in and smile seductively)? Maybe a Poke on Facebook has the same effect?

I know a lot of happy couples have hooked up on dating sites, I’m sure they’ll go on to lead wonderful electronic lives,

• They’ll raise their kids with blogs.
• Get online therapy when things start to go bad.
• Hack their spouse’s phones when they suspect cheating.
• Empty the bank accounts electronically before the divorce papers are served.
• Jump right back on to a new dating site, maybe Cougars.com or Sugar Babies and Sugar Daddies and start all over again.

So, how would a day without a PDA look?

• Well when you drive to work, drivers would actually be looking at the road and not returning e-mails.
• Diners would be engaged in stimulating conversation and not interrupt the flow by answering that intrusive call.
• Mothers and dads would be playing with their kids instead of sitting on a bench, texting friends about what their little angel is now doing.
• On your birthday, people would pick up the phone to sing Happy Birthday, maybe off key, instead of posting HPY Bday LOL Smileyface on your social networking site!
• And maybe next time when someone says PDA you’ll think of Public Displays of Affection instead of a Personal Digital Assistant!

First an update from my post on 10/1/12 (just scroll down for our other Tweets of the Week):

Hearts, Dating, Bonding, Relationships, and Bunny Rabbits

Unfortunately after 2 life-saving medical procedures, Maya’s heart condition (and cancer) got the best of her. (see our Top Tweets from 10/1/12)

We’re sure that Maya is in the great beyond now happily hopping and kissing her mate (Bodhi, who passed away earlier this year)! .

Did you know that bunnies date?  They do!
.

House bunnies (domestic as opposed to bunny rabbits in the wild) are introduced and then given time to get to know each other and to bond.  This a trial period and they can either bond…or not.  If they bond they’re bonded forever…and they need to do everything together.

.

Here’s an excerpt from the House Rabbit Society website about Bonding:

“The rabbit psyche is mysterious, sometimes paradoxical. These deeply emotional creatures crave the companionship of their own kind. They form bonds so powerful that loss of a partner can cause depression and illness. Such devotion is far from apparent at first meetings, which may be marked by aggressive behavior. Two weeks later, these rabbits are inseparable, grooming and cuddling each other for hours at a time. The challenge to humans is how to guide them safely to a happy ending.”

So our human dating is just the prelude to what we hope will be forever bonding (long-term relationships and/or marriage).

And Rick and I are hoping that the information provided by our KnowYourMan website will help you know your man well enough that you can bond with him (the right guy for you)…forever.

TLC, Your Heart, Dating, and Relationships (and Bunny Rabbits)

I’m sorry I didn’t have a chance to tweet more about dating info, insights, and research last week, but I was preoccupied with our bunny girl, Maya, who had a heart problem and had to undergo a medical procedure to save her life.

.

Luckily she seems to be recovering well and hopefully with lots of hand-feeding, tender loving care, and love she’ll flourish, which I guess is an analogy to dating and long-term relationships after all.

.

And if you could “think good thoughts” for Maya, that would be great too…and greatly appreciated!  :)
