MWC Academic All-Conference Spring Sports Team Announced

The Midwest Conference recognized 21 Knox College student-athletes from six league sports on the 2008 MWC Academic All-Conference Spring Sports Team announced on Thursday, May 22. To be eligible for the academic all-conference team, student athletes must hold a cumulative 3.2 grade point average and letter in any of the MWC's spring sports.

Knox College closed its memorable 2008 spring athletics season with its annual Spring Sports Banquet Monday night, May 19, in the Lincoln Room in Seymour Union. Awards were presented by Knox College President Roger Taylor, Anne Taylor, Knox Director of Athletics Chad Eisele and Faculty Representative Larry Welch. Head coaches also announced their 2008 team award winners and their 2008-09 team captains.

Tim Rairdon and Jordan Ball Named Prairie Fire co-Performers of the Week

Tim Rairdon, a senior from St. Charles, Illinois (St. Charles East High School), and Jordan Ball, a freshman from Cuba, Illinois (Cuba High School), were named the Knox College Prairie Fire co-Performers of the Week on Monday, May 12. Rairdon set two school records and won an individual championship at the Midwest Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships while Ball helped lead the Prairie Fire baseball team to a conference championship.

Monmouth College won its eighth consecutive title on the men's side and its fourth straight on the women's side at the 2008 Midwest Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Knox College. The Prairie Fire men finished eighth and the women took ninth. Pam Bell and Tim Rairdon each won an individual championship for Knox and Rairdon set two school records for the Prairie Fire in the two-day event.

Monmouth College built a 46-point lead on the men's side and a 66-point edge on the women's side after the first day of the 2008 Midwest Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Knox College. Knox's first day was highlighted by a school-record setting performance by Tim Rairdon in the men's 1500-meter run and a conference championship effort by Pam Bell in the long jump.

Knox to Host MWC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 9-10

For the first time since 1993, Knox College will host the Midwest Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on campus. The two-day event is May 9-10 on Turner Track at Trevor Field in the heart of campus. Knox was the host school for the 2003 championships, but the event was held in Monmouth.

Outdoor Track and Field Season Opener at Illinois College Canceled

The Knox College outdoor track and field team will have to wait a little longer to start the 2008 season. The Illinois College Invitational, the Prairie Fire's season-opening meet scheduled for Saturday, April 12, has been canceled due to the inclement weather.

Old Siwash/Prairie Fire Athletic Club Gives $20,000 to Athletic Department

At halftime of the Lake Forest-Knox College men's basketball game on Saturday, February 23, the Old Siwash/Prairie Fire Athletic Club presented a $20,000 check to the Knox College Athletic Department. The donation is an annual gift from the Club. Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) officers Katie Schneider and Aaron Willits accepted the check on behalf of the athletic department.

Four Inducted into Knox-Lombard Hall of Fame

Four new members were inducted into the Allan P. Christiansen Knox-Lombard Athletic Hall of Fame as part of 2007 Homecoming festivities. The 1959 Knox men's basketball team, James Brown '86, J. Charles Janes '55, and Lisa Williamson '86 are the newest members of the Hall of Fame.

Irwin and Zierfuss Named Co-Head Track and Field Coaches

Patrick Irwin and Dan Zierfuss were named co-head track and field coaches at Knox College. Irwin was also named the head cross country coach while Zierfuss will also assist the Prairie Fire football team. The two begin their duties July 1.

Thompson Places Second in 400-Meter Hurdles at MWC Meet

Amy Thompson, a senior from Rollinsville, Colorado (Nederland High School), placed second in the 400-meter hurdles at the Midwest Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in a time of 1:08.79. Thompson was Knox College's top finisher at the conference meet. She also contributed to a pair of scoring relay teams for the Prairie Fire.

Amy Thompson, a senior from Rollinsville, Colorado (Nederland High School), was named the Midwest Conference Women's Track Performer of the Week. She recorded two career PRs in the hurdle events and contributed to a pair of season-best relay efforts at the University of Dubuque Open track and field meet.

Augustson Sets School Record in Hammer Throw

Donielle Augustson, a senior from Rio Rancho, New Mexico (Rio Rancho High School), improved her own school record in the hammer throw at the University of Dubuque Open outdoor track and field meet on May 3. Her record distance of 121 feet, 10 inches added 11 inches to the previous mark of 120 feet, 11 inches from the 2005 season.

Knox College dedicated its newly-renovated track on October 12. The $800,000 renovation gives Knox the ability to host both indoor and outdoor conference track and field championships. The state-of-the-art track is also one of only a handful of purple tracks in the country.
