Carpet Stain Removal

Carpet Stain Removal Help for those difficult stains We have seen stains of just about every type on floors we’ve cleaned and treated. Since the kinds of stains can vary as much as the carpet, we thought we would give you some general advice for stain removal. Depending on how new your carpet is, and what pre-stain treatment it already has had applied either by the manufacturer or by a professional carpet cleaning firm, it may be easier to remove stains. In general, the following guidelines apply: Remove as much solid matter as you can before doing anything else. This can be done with paper towels, a spoon or dull knife, whatever you have really. The main point is to remove as much material as you can. If it’s something like gum, try to freeze it with an ice cube first, then pull it out or break it apart to remove it. When absorbing a spill, work from the edges of the stain towards the center. This will help to keep the stain from spreading. Always blot up spills with a clean white towel or white paper towels first, after removing any solid matter. Don’t use brushes or scrub the stain, as this may spread it and cause damage to the carpet fibers. Use the correct and approved cleaning solution on the stain as recommended by the carpet manufacturer. Various cleaning solutions work on organic and non-organic materials so you may want to keep some of them at home for use should they be needed. Be sure to follow instructions carefully. It may take some time to remove a stain and perhaps multiple treatments will be required. Stains can re-appear after cleaning because the fibers may lift the remaining stain up from the carpet backing and padding underneath. This is why it may take several cleanings to completely remove a deep stain. The following list of items will also come in handy for spot removal. Again, check the manufacturer for specific instructions by stain type as to how to apply some of the materials below. White soft towels or white paper towels (to blot up spills and to lift solutions and stains) Spoon & Knife (used to lift solid materials off of a spill) Dish washing detergent (hand) that doesn’t contain lanolin or bleach and no additives Isopropyl rubbing alcohol Hydrogen peroxide White vinegar Clean spray bottle for applying detergent or other mix Click here to contact us to help you with any stains that you just can’t get cleaned up, and the earlier you contact us after the stain occurs, the better.

We have seen stains of just about every type on floors we’ve cleaned and treated.

In general, the following guidelines apply:

Remove as much solid matter as you can before doing anything else.

White soft towels or white paper towels (to blot up spills and to lift solutions and stains)

Spoon & Knife (used to lift solid materials off of a spill)

Dish washing detergent (hand) that doesn’t contain lanolin or bleach and no additives

      Isopropyl rubbing alcohol

      Hydrogen peroxide

      White vinegar

Clean spray bottle for applying detergent or other mix

Regular Carpet Cleaning Tips

Regular Carpet Cleaning Tips Did you know that weekly carpet cleaning can actually reduce the allergens in your home? It's true- Carpeting absorbs more particles in your home then hard surface flooring can, and this keeps them out of the air, which keeps them out of your lungs. It also means that keeping your carpet clean is even more important. Keeping your carpet routinely clean will increase its useful life in your home, and will keep it looking better between the professional cleanings that are usually recommended between every 12 to 24 months. Read the warranty that came with your carpeting and check with the manufacturer for any special care instructions. It’s possible that certain preventative measures are required to keep your warranty in force with the manufacturer. This can include routine vacuuming and periodic professional cleaning. If you have a high-traffic home, you are likely to sweep more often and use stain removing agents due to spills. Be sure to check with your carpet manufacturer to see what types of chemicals and vacuum cleaners are suitable for your carpet, and follow their instructions. Well maintained carpeting can last 20 years or more. Before you start to sweep the floor, always do a walking inspection to look for items that may be drawn up into the vacuum that should not really go there. Items like small toys, coins and jewelry for example can be found anywhere on the floor, or under furniture. In home office settings, watch out for things like staples, paper clips, push pins, tacks, and rubber bands. All such items like that can cause havoc on a sweeper, suction tubes and bags. Always check the dirt level in your sweeper bag or canister before starting. If it’s full or nearly full, consider replacing it soon, if not before the next time you sweep. When vacuuming, start in the corner of a room and work backwards towards the center of the room, always being cautious of pets, children, furniture and other items you may bump into. Working a room “backwards” allows you to see easily the areas you have already swept without walking over the area again. You will also notice on many carpets that you will have light and dark paths as the sweeper moves back and forth across the carpet. This is due to moving the carpet fibers with and against the grain and is perfectly normal. In commercial cleaning, you will find people vacuuming a room in one direction, East to West for example, then vacuuming the room again in a North to South movement. The reason they are doing this is to further clean the fibers. Most people don’t vacuum this way, but if you want to alternate how you sweep every time, that’s a good idea too. Sweeping across the same carpet in up to 5 passes will obtain the best results, though a double or triple pass is often quite good. If you sweep at half the speed of your walking pace, that's usually a good rate. Keep in mind that sweeping is not a race, the sweeper actually has to beat the carpet fibers to loosen the dirt so that the suction can remove it. On certain carpets, like high shag carpeting, suction only sweepers should be used. Using sweepers with beater brushes can cause the fibers to unravel and frizz, and shed. When stains occur, treat them as fast as possible. Don’t forget there is carpet padding under the carpet and for best results. Carpeting often has stain treatments from the factory or from professional cleaners like us that make stains much easier to clean than years past. Sometimes, it can be as simple as blotting the stain with a dry clean cloth or paper towels to lift the moisture off, leaving the carpet clean. Always check with the manufacturer first for care instructions. Check our Carpet Stain Removal Tips page for more information. When looking at stain treatments, some products are more people and pet safe than others. If that Is a consideration, conduct your research so you can find a product you will be happy with. As to selecting vacuum cleaners, not all model or brands have the same capabilities. Care should be exercised when selecting a unit that is right for your needs. For you and your family's respiratory and allergy health, it’s more important how much particulate escapes from the cleaner during normal use than what features and hoses it can use. Some manufactures now offer vacuum cleaners with an ultraviolet light that with repeated use on your carpet will kill many of the bacteria and other unpleasant matter living there, between professional carpet cleanings. Professional Carpet Cleaning using either Deep Cleaning Systems or Deep Cleaning Extractors is truly preferred at least once every 12 to 24 months for all homes. If your home has high traffic, consider cleaning those areas more frequently.
Choosing A Carpet Cleaning Company

Choosing A Carpet Cleaning Company Here's what to look for There are several items to consider when choosing a carpet cleaning company. You can cover these questions when you call or request information. Asking these types of questions now may save you time and possible headaches later. There are four key areas to look at: What services are performed by the company and how are they performed: Ask them what method of carpet cleaning they use. Hot water extraction is usually preferred, but that depends on your carpeting. Ask them what their process is to clean carpeting. You will want to hear something along the lines that they vacuum the carpet first, pre-treat any stains, apply the cleaning agent, let that soak in and work, then extract and rinse the carpet and rake it or groom it if needed. After that, they can accelerate the drying or let it air dry, per your preference. You will also want to know if they wear foot protection should they have to walk over previously cleaned areas and protect your furniture. What types of equipment and supplies are used: You will likely hear that they have a vehicle or truck mounted cleaning unit. Not all of them are the same, though most of them will out-perform standalone self contained carpet cleaning systems. There are a few exceptions to this rule. There are industry associations that have ranked vacuum cleaners, hot water extractors and self contained cleaning systems and shown which perform the best. Find out what equipment and model will be used on your carpet and conduct research on the internet if you are interested. What are the company’s business practices: Several questions here will help you determine if you want to do business with them. Are they independent firm or a franchise? You can get great quality service from both, it’s your preference. Ask them to furnish references from existing customers. Do they have a satisfaction guarantee? If they do, what are the specifics of it? What forms of payment do they accept? Cash, check, credit cards, other? How long have they been in business? How many people do they employ? If they employ others, are they licensed and bonded? Do they run background checks on people that work for them? Are they members of the local better business bureau? If so, you can check their record online. What are the company industry affiliations and accreditations: There are several industry affiliations and certification programs in the flooring and fabric care industry today. Ask them if they are members of any of them and if so, which certifications they have.
Useful Upholstery Care Tips

Useful Upholstery Care Tips Keep your furniture looking great To keep your upholstered furniture looking great, we offer these simple tips: Carefully read and keep the manufactures warranty and fabric care instructions that came with your furniture. Following the instructions will keep your fabric looking new and the warranty valid. Keep a supply of the proper cleaning materials on hand so that in the event of a spill or potential stain, you can quickly clean it up or reduce the amount of fabric damage until a professional cleaning is scheduled. While we most people vacuum flooring weekly, they don’t pay as much attention to their furniture. Your furniture should be vacuumed as often as your carpeting. A simple rule to follow would be that if you see dust accumulation on hard surfaces, your furniture has at least that much dust on it. The best way to clean removable cushions is to beat them (usually outside) and then vacuum them. It’s also a good idea to flip cushions over every few weeks as well too so that they wear evenly. Direct sunlight fades colors, so keep furniture away from direct sunlight. The use of arm and headrest covers that are easy to clean will keep your furniture looking newer longer. Extra covers can be purchased from the manufacturer in the colors and patterns that match, and are an excellent value. Brush off surfaces first to remove lose materials and pet hair and use manufacturer recommended cleaning solutions on armrests and headrests often to minimize the absorption of body oils. Be sure to carefully slide your hand between cushions and into the backs of chairs before vacuuming to make sure to pick up any objects that may cause your sweeper any damage. You may be surprised what you find, from coins to jewelry to keys and cell phones. That missing remote control might also be located! Keep newspapers, magazines and other printed materials off your furniture, as inks can transfer to the material very easily and are hard to remove. Don’t leave dark blankets on light colored furniture as the dyes in the blankets may transfer to the furniture and be impossible to remove. Set your furniture on carpet sliders to make it easier to move for cleaning purposes. It’s a good idea to have your upholstered furnishings professionally cleaned when you have your carpets cleaned. We would be more than happy to provide you with a no obligation quote for your carpeting and furnishings. Contact us today!
