On August 28th, Knoxville Rugby will host the 8th Annual Tennesee 7s High School Rugby Tournament and its first Collegiate Invitational.

TN 7S- MENS OPEN RESULTS: POSSUMS TAKE TITLE

The 2010 version of TN 7s wrapped up Saturday, July 10th with a championship win by the home team. The Possums held on to beat last year’s champ Nashville in the final match. It has been a while since the trophy was won by the hosting club. Chattanooga fought its way through the Bowl division to beat the TICS in a close one. The tournament sold out 1 week prior and the morning opened up with a 2-game round robin play which seeded teams into the afternoon tournament. The day was rather warm but cold watermellon, beer, and a homemade water slide helped to control the attrition. The results are posted below long with video and pictures provided by Tony Marable.

The tournament is full and the games are locked! On July 10, Knoxville Rugby will host TN 7s for the 34th year. Last year witnessed Nashville get up to a 19-point lead on the University of Tennessee and hold on to win 19-14.

LOCATION: Possum Park, Knoxville, TN

ENTRY FEE: $150, Men’s Open Division, 8 Teams

TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR: Jay McNabb, jymcnabb(at)gmail.com

FORMAT: Teams will play a morning Round-Robin followed by an afternoon single elimination tournament. 12-man roster/ 3 replacements per game. All games are 7-minute halves with 3-minute halftime.

ROUND-ROBIN: Teams will play 3 games. Win=3 points, Tie= 1 point, Bonus points for scoring more than 5 tries or losing by 7 or less. Tie-breaker is Head-to-Head, Points Differential, Most Points, Coin Toss

SINGLE ELIMINATION: Ties will be broken by 5-min periods. Sudden death after 2nd period.

PITCH: There will be bathrooms, water, and parking/camping available on site. Bring a tent if you want to beat the sun.

SOCIAL: Knoxville Rugby will host a social with food and beverages following the event.

It’s that time of year again, dust off those street skis!! We have moved yet again! Not content with Broadway and East Knox County we have shifted out to West Knoxville. This years madness will start off on Friday night May 14, show up to Captain Wayne’s house with items to donate to the club for the sale. We will start pricing the items after the pre-party which will then continue throughout the night as well as feats of strength and the airing of grievances. Saturday morning we will do our best to make sure the rest of Knoxville knows where to find for the most entertaining/memorable, Yard Sale of the year. KRFC YARD SALE- Don’t miss it!!

Pat Dorwin Helps Organize Throwback Benefit Baseball Game

Next Thursday night (April 29, 2010), Farragut and Oak Ridge baseball teams will be playing a game in throwback uniforms to commemorate the 1982 State Championship Team of which Possum Pat Dorwin was a member. Proceeds from this game will go to the National Parkinson’s Foundation. For those that aren’t aware, both Pat and his brother Pete have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s.

Please make plans to attend the game if possible, or make a contribution in support of Pat!

Little Rock over Possums

Little Rock stormed into town on Saturday and came away with a hard fought and well played victory at Possum Park. A very quick transition game, combined with hard runs and spotty Possum defense had the visitors up 34-0 at the half. After a change in defensive tactics and a little attacking continuity the Possums finally found the goal a couple of times and held Little Rock to only one try in the second half. Alas it was too much of a deficit to overcome and the final score was 39-12 in favor of the Stormers. Little Rock moves forward to play May1-2 in Charleston SC in the South finals.
