Finding Your Next Singapore ENT Doctor

Moving into another place means meeting and building relationships with new people. This includes finding a new doctor to rely and trust. Depending on your family conditions and lifestyle, you may just have to keep one general physician, preferably a Singapore ENT Doctor, who manages the overall health care of the family, or several specialists who can address various needs of family members.

Singapore ENT Doctor Search Guide

The family’s health insurance policies are crucial in the search, so it is recommended to check the terms of the insurance first to limit the options. Medical professionals and establishments have different coverage agreements with various insurance plans, so it’s important to factor in the possibility of out-of-pocket costs for consultation, medicines, and tests, among others.

One pressing factor is location. A visit to the doctor because of a health problem is stressful enough, so going to the clinic should not be a challenge. Consider the availability of public transportation, the traffic conditions, and the parking spaces.

Doctors aside from their personal clinic sometimes work in one or more hospitals, so ask yourself if you’re welcome to the idea of visiting these hospitals during emergencies. Given this, it is recommended to check the doctor’s schedule and see if he or she spends long hours in the clinic you prefer. Of course the more often the doctor stays in the clinic, the better the chances of setting an appointment.

Singapore ENT Doctor Availability

A good doctor returns calls and responds to urgent concerns, so you should consider the clinic’s patient population, the promptness of setting appointments, and the availability of other doctors or nurses who could cover for the doctor when he or she is away. You should also ask yourself if you would be comfortable attended by other practitioners in the first place.

You can’t fully judge a doctor based on ads, reviews, and recommendations. The best thing you can do is to have an actual consultation appointment wherein you could air you health concerns. A one-on-one interaction would help you decide whether the chosen doctor is worth trusting your health with.

Your Guide In Finding A Singapore ENT Specialist

A Singapore ENT Specialist is best medical professionals who could address a wide range of ear, nose, and throat problems and other related complications in the neck and the head. There are numerous outstanding ENT specialists in the country, but this does not mean that you should pick the nearest ENT clinic or the first ENT specialist in your health insurance plan’s list. Exert as much efforts as you can in finding the best out there—someone you could be happy and content with medically and personally.

Before Visiting A Singapore ENT Specialist

Before you trust your well-being with a medical professional, it’s crucial that you become familiar with your health issues. Google is always there to help, so educate yourself with the specific ENT concerns you are facing. The more aware you are of what are happening, the more knowledge the doctor will have regarding your case and the better that he or she will be able to address the problem.

Even if Google knows almost everything, in looking for an ENT specialist it is strongly advised to ask recommendations from family, close friends, and other trusted people. Unlike in other professions, in the healthcare industry personal relationships count. Loved ones would only refer you to people whom they themselves trust.

Finding A Singapore ENT Specialist

In checking out ENT specialist profiles, look at the physician’s education, training, and experience. It’s crucial of course that they have practiced for years in reputable hospitals and completed specialist training in a good medical school. Consider affiliations with medical organizations as an advantage, as this means that they are aware with the latest updates and developments in their field. In the ENT field, the most renowned organization is the SOHNSS or the Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Singapore.

While the qualifications of an ENT specialist should be a concern, a handful of other factors should be weighed in like the location of the clinic or hospital, the doctor’s schedule and availability, the doctor’s affiliation with the patient’s health insurance plan, and of course the professional fee and rates of medical services.

Sinus Treatment Guide

Thousands of Singaporeans suffer from a period of sinusitis at least once a year. While sinus problems are very common, it is often pointed out that the population of patients gets higher every year due to pollution, urbanization, and resistance of bacteria and viruses to antibiotics. If you often experience facial pain or pressure and obstruction in the nose, do yourself a favor and undergo an exam with an ENT specialist.

Sinus Treatment Diagnosis

People suffer from either acute or chronic sinusitis. Acute sinusitis is short-term while chronic sinusitis is described as four or more recurrences of acute sinusitis. If not addressed well, the disorder will manifest further through nasal discharges, headache, fever, fatigue, and even bad breath. Worst case scenarios are meningitis and bone infection.

Basic Sinus Treatment involves antibiotic prescription for several days or weeks. An ENT doctor may also prescribe oral and topical decongestants depending on a patient’s case. Common methods of alleviating sinusitis symptoms may also be recommended. These include using a vaporizer or boiled water steam, equipping the room with humidifiers, and applying warm compresses to the nasal area, among many others.

Sinus Treatment Exam And Surgery

An ENT specialist should conduct a physical examination to assess treatment. He or she may perform nasal endoscopy, a process in which a fiber optic instrument is inserted into the nose to be able to examine the sinus drainage areas and detect signs of obstruction, abnormalities, and whatnot. The physical exam may also involve a mucus culture test, x-rays, allergy testing, and CT scan.

If antibiotics and decongestants do not work, an ENT specialist may recommend the patient to undergo a surgical procedure. Surgery basically aims to enlarge the opening to the sinuses and remove any areas of or with obstruction. It is administered under local or general anesthesia; the recovery period spans a couple of weeks to a month. Patients will also be advised a change of lifestyle, specifically quitting smoking and excessive drinking.

Immunotherapy As A Form Of Long-Term Nasal Treatment

Unlike non-chronic illnesses, severe allergies can’t be treated by over-the counter medication. Severe nasal allergies require long-term Nasal Treatment procedures like immunotherapy.

Nasal Treatment: How Immunotherapy Is Administered

Immunotherapy is the repeated administration of allergen vaccines to people who are experiencing severe allergy cases. This is done by injecting antigens into the patient’s skin. Its primary objective is to provide long-term relief and improve people’s quality of life by helping them get immune to a particular substance that they are allergic with. Physicians determine the antigen through skin testing and as well as by knowing the patient’s medical history.

The result of this treatment however does not come up immediately. This explains why the total treatment period for immunotherapy can last until 3-4 years. During the first treatment sessions, only a small dose of antigen is injected into the body. The amount of antigen is expected to increase in subsequent sessions. The doctor will assess how the patient’s body responds to the dosage and whether the body can tolerate the dosage. Patients need to see their doctor every 4-6 months to assess progress. At the very least, a patient will have to wait another 4-5 months or longer until relief of symptoms can be noticed.

Nasal Treatment: Management Of Adverse Effects

Although immunotherapy is considered the most effective treatment for severe allergies, it also has its risks. These include redness and swelling on the area of injection. This can be treated by taking antihistamine and by putting a cold compress on the portion of the skin where there is swelling. If the swelling seems to be severe, it is most recommended to report this to the doctor immediately.

Modifying the vaccine is one factor that experts are considering to avoid adverse side effects. In an article posted on the website of World Allergy Organization, vaccines for allergies can become more personalized by introducing recombinant allergens. However, there is no available literature yet concerning the trials of recombinant allergens for immunotherapy.

How Effective Are Cochlear Implants As A Hearing Loss Treatment?

Although cochlear implant is mostly used for deaf people and those who were born with severely impaired hearing, it can also serve as an effective Hearing Loss Treatment. For instance, aged individuals who have lost most of their hearing can benefit from it by associating the signal that the implant produces with the sound they are familiar with.

People who get the best out of this implant also undergo therapy so they can learn and re-learn to adopt with this electrical stimulator of sound. Undergoing a surgical implant does not guarantee that everyone will get the same result or will exhibit the same hearing level using this device.

Hearing Loss Treatment: Parts Of A Cochlear Implant

A cochlear implant is composed of two parts. One is found on the external and the other is implanted inside the ear. These two are functioning together to capture sound, transform it into a digital information and then into electrical signals that trigger the hearing nerve and allow the brain to perceive the sound.

On the external part of the device one can find a microphone, a speech processor, and a transmitter. The microphone picks up sound from the environment; the speech processor filters the sound and turns it into digital information; and the transmitter sends the processed sound to the internal device through electromagnetic induction.

Meanwhile, the internal part of a cochlear implant consists of a receiver and a stimulator, and an array of electron wounds through the cochlea. The receiver and the stimulator convert the digital information into electric impulses and send them into electrodes through an internal cable. The electron wounds transmit the impulses to the nerves in the scala tympani, which will be then directly sent to the brain through the auditory nerve system.

Hearing Loss Treatment: The Future It Holds For Other Types Of Hearing Loss

Cochlear implants have been a product of intensive research for over four decades. And until now, various researches are being conducted and funded to make it even more useful for people who are experiencing other types of hearing loss. The National Institute on Deafness and other Communication Disorders, for instance, has been supporting research for the improvement of benefits provided by the implant. Among them include the use of a shortened electrode array for individuals whose hearing loss is limited to higher sound frequencies.

Nasal Treatment That Is Under ENT For Children

Nasal congestion prevents people from breathing properly. And the breathing problem could get worst when the person suffering from it is a baby who does not have the capability to remove the object that is causing the nasal blockage. In cases like this, the type of doctor to look for is the one that specializes in ENT For Children.

ENT For Children: What Is Nasal Suction?

In medicine, this condition is treated by suctioning. Nasal suctioning removes tenacious secretions and other retained foreign objects in the nasal passage. Doctors use suction tubes to remove mucus or other objects from the patient’s nostril. Nonetheless, medical-grade suction apparatus [such as these] is not recommended for residential use. Devices used in clinics are more complex compared to regular suction devices.

Alternatively, parents can use rubber bulb syringe instead in order to remove mucus and clean the child’s stuffy nose. Hospitals provide kits to new born babies and it contain rubber bulb syringe. To clean a child’s congested nose through a rubber bulb syringe, the mother should squirt a little nasal saline into the child’s nose. This helps moisten and loosen up the mucus and thus makes the process easier and less traumatic for the child.

The next step is to squeeze the air out of the rubber bulb before inserting the syringe into the child’ nose. Then release the bulb slowly so that it can absorb the mucus. Gently remove the syringe, clean the tip of the device, and repeat the process for the child’s other nostril. Parents, especially mothers, should remember not to suction the baby’s nose for more than three times. Doing so might cause irritation on the child’s nasal lining.

ENT For Children: Caution Is Necessary When Administering Nasal Suction

As with other forms of ENT treatments, nasal suction requires caution and gentleness—whether it is administered at home or in clinics. Mothers should follow the manufacturer’s instructions when they obtain the suction device from a medical supply store. Likewise, doctors should consider the size of suction catheter in order to minimize trauma.

Immunotherapy For Allergic Rhinitis Sufferers

Immunotherapy For Allergic Rhinitis is one of the many new treatments available to chronic sufferers of hay fever, otherwise known as allergic rhinitis. Also called pollenosis, this ailment often strikes during the cold winter months or can be triggered by allergens like dust, pollen or dander.

Most of the time, people who suffer from hay fever find that going outdoors during the days when pollen is in the air or when the air is very cold triggers their allergic reaction. This is often evidenced by symptoms like sneezing, tearing up of the eyes, a runny nose and even problems with smelling. People who suffer from this illness year in and year out, and who cannot stand the problems these bring, may want to consider immunotherapy.

Immunotherapy For Allergic Rhinitis: Is It For You?

Also called allergy shots, immunotherapy for hay fever is aimed at people who cannot avoid these allergens and at those who suffer from rather extreme symptoms of this ailment. The person who wants to undergo this kind of therapy is basically trying to strengthen his or her immunity to these allergens, slowly helping their bodies adjust to the presence of such substances.

When a person decides to get Immunotherapy For Allergic Rhinitis, what happens is this – injections that contain the allergen are given regularly to the patient in slightly increasing doses. This helps the person’s body slowly adjust to the allergen, thereby making them immune to it and preventing them from suffering from hay fever when they are in the presence of these substances.

Immunotherapy For Allergic Rhinitis Is Becoming Popular Worldwide

According to various reports from around the world, like the one in the Gulf News dated November 4, 2011, more and more people who suffer from severe hay fever are being told to consider immunotherapy as their ideal treatment for allergic rhinitis. Those who suffer from a milder version of this ailment however are told to simply avoid coming in contact with allergens or to practice preventive measures.

What Takes Place In An ENT Consultation?

Almost everyone knows what ENT (ear, nose, and throat) stands for. But what actually happens in an ENT Consultation? Perhaps, only those who had visited a doctor specializing in this field can tell how it goes. For the benefit of those who have not been to an ENT clinic, the following is an outline on what to expect in an ENT Consultation.

ENT Consultation: Diagnosis

An ENT doctor first gathers information about the patient’s medical history. These pieces of information will be used in assessing its relevance to the symptoms the patient has been experiencing. Providing a detailed past medical history, including the medications taken, can be useful when surgery is needed.

ENT Consultation: Examination

After the brief diagnostic interview, examination of the ear, nose and throat comes next. The doctor needs to have a complete set of medical instrument to thoroughly examine the concerned body parts.

ENT doctors use an otoscope for the examination of the ears. This instrument comes with a light and a magnifying lens in order to illuminate the eardrum and allow the doctor to examine the external canal of the ear. Tuning forks can also be used if a patient is complaining about hearing loss.

There are also instances when an ENT doctor needs a microscope with binocular vision and depth of field to make microsuction possible. Microsuction is a procedure used in removing ear wax or debris from the ear canal.

In examining the nose, doctors use a simple speculum and a headlight. A rigid endoscope is necessary for post-surgical inspection of the nose.

When it comes to oral inspection, ENT specialists use a tongue depressor and an illuminator in order to see the tongue and the tonsillar area. A flexible nasendoscope is used to view the back of the nose and as well as the voice box. It is a fiber optic cable inserted into the nose after a decongesting anaesthetic is inserted. It may make the patient feel a little bit uncomfortable but it is the best way to inspect the parts of the nose that are difficult to examine.

Sinus Infection Treatment Options For Youngsters And Adults

Sinus infection treatment methods should be seriously considered when you or your child is diagnosed with this ailment called a sinus infection. While some people believe that such an infection is not serious and can be easily treated with home remedies, there are those who know otherwise.

According to the Gothenburg times dated November 3, 2011, a seventh grade student who thought she had a simple case of sinus infection found herself suffering from meningitis a month and a half later. The treatment that was needed at this stage included the draining of her sinus cavities and an operation that involved the removal of part of the child’s skull, and the scraping of the infected part of the brain.

Sinus Infection Treatment: Knowing The Symptoms In Order To Get The Right Treatment

Meningitis is a possible complication of this ailment and knowing the signs that point to a possible sinus infection may help you save your child’s or your own life. With the weather getting colder due to the onset of the holiday months, it is highly likely that more people will be getting the sniffles and the possibility of a sinus infection, if these sniffles are not taken care of.

There are many symptoms that point to sinus infection and sinusitis. Some of these symptoms may point to an acute or chronic sinus problem and upon which sinuses are infected. For example, if you are experiencing fever, very painful headaches across your forehead which increase in intensity when you recline, and postnasal drip, you might be suffering from acute frontal sinusitis.
Are you looking for a Nose Bleed Treatment? You’re in the right place. The clinic’s range of services includes treatments to addresses problems affecting the nose. The highly qualified ENT specialist will give a consultation to determine the proper course of action to take with regards to your condition.

Nose Bleed Treatment At Home

We tend to find remedies for our discomforts for reasons as varied as the conditions we dismiss as manageable. We pinch the nose for a moment as we attempt to relax. We get up from the bed and sit down. We breathe through our mouth and place some ice within our convenient reach. We try hard not to bend down. And we hope that sooner and not later, the bleeding will finally stop.

While sometimes the remedies do work, it’s not advisable to leave matters in our hands particularly when health is involved. This is especially so when we lack the right background. What may appear to be a minor case may in fact be something relatively more serious after a thorough examination. When it comes to health matters, our personal assessments won’t matter. We need to consult someone in the know and only then will we know for certain. The best resolve still is to visit the doctor.

Nose Bleed Treatment For Adults And Children

Adults and children may experience nose bleeds once or in more than a few instances. It may be frightening for some especially for the kids since blood is commonly associated to something more serious than usual.

Nose bleeds may be caused by trauma, injury, weather or climate and medications among others. While some conditions are less serious, others require the assistance of the doctor. Tests may be performed on the patient to establish the cause and to rule out danger based on the result of the diagnosis. The procedures of the treatment may range from a simple blood pressure check to blood tests and even to a surgical operation by the ENT surgeon.
