For one of the weeks of spring break this month, K attended a claymation camp at a local community centre. Working in pairs, the kids made storyboards, clay characters, paper & cardboard sets, and then filmed and edited their own short videos, adding captions and soundtracks! K went snow tubing on a field trip with school. it was awesome!!! For much of the fall, K was participating in the Wild West Simulation Game at school. It was set in Yale, BC, during the gold rush. K's children's taiko drumming group recently had their holiday concert. His group, the Juniors (youngest), played 3 songs, including a new one all together with the Intermediate and Senior Chibis. At K's school there's been a stop motion video class. K hasn't made it to this class (at least not yet), but was inspired to try making his own stop motion lego video at home. It's a little jerky, since he didn't have the fancy equipment they did at school (an iPad), but you can get the idea. Hopefully there will be more stop-motion videos in the future.

We had visitors from Oregon this weekend! Cathy carved pumpkins with K! Then, when we lit the jack-o-lantern, C & B sang the jack-o-lantern song:  Note the glowing teeth! We went downtown to check out the little local "Occupy" encampment. It was like a little tent-town. There was a library: We stopped to examine the check in/out system: There was lots of art: And a fair number of people: And some speeches outside the public library/CBC. We took a family hike around Lighthouse Park in West Van. First we went to a less-popular overlook: Then hiked through the woods for a while, toward the lighthouse. We saw a snake! And then, of course, the lighthouse.

K and a friend have been thoroughly enjoying his package of false mustaches. After use, they invariably end up stuck to his door letters: K helped make an additional worm composting box, by drilling the holes. First time using power tools! On vacation (at Old Sturbridge Village) K used his allowance to buy a quill pen & ink powder set. We mixed up the ink and tried writing, and it was pretty fun. Just like Harry Potter? We found you had to dip the quill very frequently. After playing with calligraphy, K moved on to drawing the Deathly Hallows, and some DNA.

Back home, K & D worked on K's first model rocket. On a nice day with no wind, we'll launch it! Putting it all together took hard work and patience. Lots of measuring, cutting, gluing, and waiting for glue to dry. All done! Hopefully the parachute will deploy and return the rocket to us for multiple launches!

In between the 2 halves of our vacation we spent a day at Old Sturbridge Village. K had a blast and hopes to go back again someday!
