To get the update, just sync your device and it’ll automatically download & then prompt you to install the update. The update takes a few minutes to install and then your machine will reboot which will take longer than usual, but don’t panic yet.
Once you have it installed you will be greeted with a a new home screen which has a Discovery tab where you’ll find your recommendations. In general, the whole look of the Home Screen is much cleaner and hopefully will take care of the complaints.
Highlights from the release notes:
I think the release notes have left out details on some of the changes. I see they have made it easy to turn off wi-fi and see when you have sync’d last. Some of the menus also seem to be refreshing quicker. There is also a new search icon on the home screen for searching your own library or the Kobo store.
Also, it looks like Sudoku saves your game when you leave it now too!
Kobo has sent out another update, version 1.9.17 for the Kobo Touch eReader
This version includes:
I’m interested in the improved recognition of page-turn taps. I’ve recently noticed my Kobo Touch has been a bit more finicky about page turns. I might also need to clean the sides of the screen where the IR sensors are.
The Facebook timeline is an interesting feature, though I won’t be linking my Timeline to my Kobo. I’ve seen similar facebook posts from people who have Telus TV and I really don’t need to share what TV shows or books I’m reading at the moment.

Kobo has been diligently working away with the updates. I compared a Kobo Touch with the update to one without. I couldn’t really see the difference in the text, but it’s hard to see any pixelization even without the update. There is a definite increase in speed in the page turns, though it was pretty good before as well.
To get the update:
• Resolved issue with battery level not reporting the correct charge.
• Resolved issue with some customers losing their WiFi connectivity.
• Improved video streaming.
• Improved the stability of device resuming from Standby mode.
• Plus various bug fixes.
A number of other enhancements were added at the same time:
