When HP gave a sneak peek of webOS 3.0 at a New York City press event, TabletPCReview was there to catch early glimpses of Photo Synergy, four virtual keyboards, and other features of a re-tooled mobile OS set to ship with HP's new TouchPad tablets starting in July.

Email Synergy and Photo Synergy.
Meanwhile, webOS 3.0 also borrows from the Synergy capabilities of its smartphone-based webOS predecessors with tablet-based E-Mail Synergy and Photo Synergy capabilities. Oakes told me that both of these features use technologies that include synchronization through HP's cloud servers and an underlying software framework supporting multiple APIs (application programming interfaces) to outside apps.

In Photo Synergy, you can access photos from multiple Web sites such as Facebook and Snapfish, for example, in a single place. Similarly, through E-Mail Synergy, you can work with messages from multiple email accounts -- for example, Gmail, Yahoo, and Microsoft Outlook (through Exchange ActiveSync) in a centralized space.

Personally, I'm sure I'd find E-Mail Synergy useful just about every day of the week (like many people, I suppose, I tend to spend a lot of time jumping in and out of my three or four favorite mailboxes). The HP TouchPad's roomy screen clearly offers plenty of real estate for viewing photos and emails from all of your various accounts and Web sites.

Four Soft Keyboards
Meanwhile, webOS 3.0's four virtual keyboards are in four different sizes. You might choose the "extra large" keypad if you're typing in a lengthy email, or the "extra small" if you want to use most of the screen for looking at photos or videos.

The soft keypads in webOS 3.0 also depart from tradition by offering a number row on top. "This makes it easier to access URLs containing numbers, for example," illustrated the TouchPad product marketing manager.

The HP exec also showed how webOS will display a status light when the HP TouchPad is connected to its charging dock.

Following the Palm buyout, HP first adopted webOS for use in its printers. Then, in February of this year, HP announced that its own first phones the HP Pre3 and the tiny HP Veer - would run a revamped mobile OS called webOS 2.2, while the TouchPad would be outfitted with the tablet-oriented webOS 3.0.

HP's new OS for the tablet also uses the same gestures, such as webOS-specific swipes, as previous editions of the OS. This will surely come as welcome news to users of Palm Pre phones, but it will likely pose a bit of a learning curve to those unfamiliar with WebOS gestures.

Earlier on, new Pre owners were so mystified about touchscreen operations that Palm created a users guide specifically for gestures.

Actually, the swipe gestures used for navigating the RIM PlayBook's screen also seem to echo those developed previously for webOS.

Kind of surprisingly, Oakes did not demo Pivot, a new monthly digital publication for TouchPad announced the same week. As touted in HP's press materials, Pivot will offer content highlighting the TouchPad's capabilities and developer community while educating users about an app store for webOS.

Other features set for inclusion in the tablet-optimized webOS 3.0 include Adobe Flash, hardware acceleration for faster image rendering, and touch-to-share, a capability for sharing URLs between the TouchPad and other webOS devices.

As we were about to go to press on this issue, Apple announced the second-generation iPad. There is a lot to be excited about. Let’s take a look at the more significant enhancements.

Front and rear-facing cameras

When the iPad was introduced a year ago, many complained to Apple about the lack ot a camera. And with the iPad 2′s large screen, just think of the astronomy, geography, and augmented reality apps and games that can be created.

Thinner and lighter

Remarkably, the iPad 2 is thinner and lighter than the original It tips the scale at 1.3 pounds (compared to 1.5 pounds for the original] and measures S.S mm in thickness (compared to 13.4 mm for the original). In fact, the iPad2 is actually thinner than the Phone 4 (9.3 mm)! And while the edges are tapered, the back of the new iPad is flat, making it more s:able when resting on a flat surface. (The rounded back of the original iPad likely led to sales of cases to make the iPad more stable on a flat surface.)

Available in black and white

Effective with its release, the iPad 2 is available in two colors: the standard black and the not-so-standard white. The original Pad was only available in black, and the iPhone 4 was supposed to be available in white as well as black. However, the white iPhone 4 has been as elusive as a certain white whale.

Twice as fast as the original

The iPad 2 sports Apple’s new A5 dual-core chip, allowing the device to simultaneously work on multiple and multi-threaded apps and achieves twice the performance of the original iPad, according to Apple. Response time should improve, even while the underlying operating system is doing its daily activities like downloading e-mail, updating contacts and calendars, communicating via Bluetooth, etc. Previously, Bluetooth might disconnect while recording video because the CPU was unable to interrupt and respond to the BT device. Multiple cores can address this. Special attention has been paid in the graphics department According to Apple, the new chip provides up to nine times the performance of the original. This should be apparent in 3D-intensive games like Infinity Blade as well as when recording and editing video. Finally, while it’s faster, the new processor is reported to consume no more power than the original. Apple lists the battery life at 10 hours.

Available for both Verizon and AT&T networks

The iPad 2 is available for both the Verizon and AT&T networks (You have to pay $130 extra for the 3G models). When you purchase your iPad 2, make sure you get the correct model. The version that works with AT&T’s network doesn’t work with Verizon’s, and vice versa. It had been rumored that Apple might have a single device that could support both networks, but they’re not there yet. The price remains the same and is as follows:

Teachers can use it to display iPad apps on a larger TV screen in class. Finally, it may address some of the concerns many have had with making presentations using Apple’s somewhat limited Keynote app.

Di internet juga banyak aplikasi-aplikasi dan layanan-layanan yang disediakan untuk mempermudah penggunanya dalam berkomunikasi atau lainnya. Berikut ini adalah beberapa layanan-layanan yang ada di internet :

Electronic Mail (E-mail)

Fungsi : mengirim atau menerima surat ke/dari seluruh penjuru dunia.
Sebagai pemakai INTERNET, Anda dapat mengirim dan menerima pesan dari pemakai INTERNET lain dari berbagai penjuru dunia. Namum selain pesan-pesan pribadi, dengan E-mail dapat juga mengirim dan menerima file binary. Maka secara virtual Anda dapat mengirim dan menerima segala tipe data. Sistem mail INTERNET adalah tulang punggung (dan motivasi awal) dari INTERNET itu sendiri.
Untuk dapat menerima surat elektronik, Anda harus memiliki kotak pos (mailbox) untuk menampung surat-surat yang masuk sebelum Anda sempat menbacanya. Sebuah kotak pos elektronik (electronic mailbox) sama dengan kotak pos dikantor pos. Siapapun bisa mengirim surat ke kotak pos, tetapi hanya pemiliknya yang bisa meneliti dan membuang isi kotak surat tersebut.
Alamat kotak pos untuk surat elektronik disebut E-mail address. Sebagai contoh :

Surat menyurat di INTERNET dilakukan dengan menggunakan program surat elektronik. Cara penggunaannya sangat mudah bila program dijalankan dibawah user interface grafis seperti Windows. Saat pengiriman hanya perlu diisikan alamat penerima dan subjek (topik) surat, kemudian isi surat langsung dapat diketik untuk dikirim. Jika perlu Anda dapat menyertakan file tertentu untuk dikirim bersama-sama dengan surat tersebut (Attachments).
Program surat elektronik yang popular digunakan adalah Eudora Mail. Eudora Mail menggunakan protokol yang disebut POP (Post Office Protocol) dan dibuat oleh Qualcomm Inc.

File Tranfer Protocol (FTP)

Fungsi :mengirim dan menerima file antar host dari seluruh penjuru dunia.
Anonymous FTP memungkinkan pengaksesan ke server FTP dengan login anonymous tanpa memerlukan password. Anonymous FTP adalah salah satu dari pelayanan dalam Internet yang cukup penting. Dengan akses ke berbagai anonymous FTP, Anda dapat memperoleh file-file secara grafis. Anda dapat menemukan program-program, gambar-gambar, majalah elektronik, artikel-artikel dalam kelompok diskusi tertentu. Salah satu program FTP adalah WS_FTP.

Tele Networking (TelNet)

Fungsi : mengakses komputer (host/server) dari jauh/Remote login.
Telnet adalah program yang memungkinkan komputer kita menjadi terminal dari komputer lain di INTERNET. Telnet memungkinkan kita untuk masuk (log in) sebagai pemakai komputer jarak jauh dan menjalankan program komputer layanan yang ada dikomputer tersebut.

User’s Network (UseNet)

UseNet adalah sistem kelompok diskusi di mana artikel-artikel didistribusikan ke seluruh dunia. UseNet memiliki ribuan kelompok diskusi, sehingga tidak heran jika UseNet meliputi segala macam topik yang mungkin Anda inginkan.

World Wide Web (WWW)

Sering disebut “the WEB”/”W3”, merupakan sistem dalam internet yang memiliki fasilitas pencarian dan pemberian informasi yang cepat dengan menggunakan teknologi hypertext.
Sebutan World Wide Web (Web=jaring laba-laba) sangat tepat untuk menggambarkan struktur data pada jaringan INTERNET. Berbeda dengan misalnya susunan data logis berstruktur pohon yang dikenal dari DOS. WWW memungkinkan penanganan atau akses yang jauh lebih fleksibel pada file yang dikelola.

Di WWW, struktur sumber daya-INTERNET dapat dibandingkan dengan jaring laba-laba. Bila dilihat polanya, jaringan ini terdiri atas lingkaran-lingkaran berbagai ukuran yang berpusat pada titik tengah yang sama. Dari titik tengah ini terbentuk garis-garis penghubung yang tegak lurus pada lingkaran, sehingga terdapat titik simpul. Bila pada struktur pohon percabangan merupakan jalur hubungan, pada Web semua garis merupakan penghubung setiap titik simpul yang mengandung data. Pemilihan disini dilakukan dengan item Hypertext. Pada titik simpul bisa terdapat sebuah komputer di Internet atau sebuah petunjuk untuk file tertentu pada sebuah komputer. Hal ini berarti, dengan memilih sebuah item Hypertext diciptakan hubungan dengan sebuah komputer pada suatu tempat di dunia, dimana Anda dapat melanjutkan perjalanan atau langsung ke sebuah file tertentu.
“Bahasa” World Wide Web:HTML

Untuk membuat Hypertext, dikembangkan sebuah bahasa pemrograman khusus yang memungkinkan pengikatan alamat WWW atau file dalam sebuah dokumen. Sesuai dengan fungsinya, bahasa pemrograman ini disebut Hypertext Mark up Language (HTML). File ini biasanya berextention *.html. Agar file yang berisi Hypertext ini bisa dikirimkan, diperlukan protokol pengiriman data yang spesifik yang disebut HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP).
Untuk menemukan setiap hubungan Hypertext digunakan Uniform Resource Locator (URL). Karena itu, halaman WWW juga disebut dokumen URL.

Internet Relay Chat (IRC)

Atau, jika Anda inginkan, Anda dapat menggunakan IRC untuk mengatur komunikasi pribadi dengan orang-orang tertentu, yaitu sejenis teleconference.

Internet Phone/Conference

Fasilitas untuk melakukan percakapan jarak jauh via INTERNET. Untuk itu diperlukan aplikasi khusus dan dukungan hardware multi media.

WAIS Server

WAIS (Wide Area Information Service) menyediakan cara lain untuk menemukan informasi yang tersebar dalam INTERNET. WAIS mampu mengakses segala database yang besar (seperti dokumen, file berisi gambar, video dan suara).

Gopher

Internet menyediakan banyak informasi yang dapat diakses penggunanya lewat sistem menu. Seorang pengguna INTERNET dihadapkan pada sebuah menu yang bercabang-cabang. Untuk menuju ke informasi atau data yang dituju, seorang pengguna menyeleksi pilihan-pilihan yang disediakan hingga masuk ke topik yang diinginkan. Fasilitas demikian disebut Gopher.

Mailing List

Kelompok diskusi - fasilitas ini dibangun menggunakan teknik yang sama dengan proses penyebaran surat elektronik. Dengan menggunakan fasilitas ini, sebuah berita/file dapat didistribusikan ke banyak pengguna sekaligus. Bahkan penggunanya dapat melakukan diskusi, seminar, ceramah, konferensi secara elektronik tanpa terikat dimensi ruang dan waktu. Diskusi dapat berlangsung setiap hari tanpa henti. Hasil yang diperoleh akan jauh lebih efektif daripada penyelenggaraan seminar/konferensi konvesional.

Langkah - Langkah Instalasi Windows Xp

Windows XP adalah suatu sistem pengoperasian (operating system) yang paling banyak dipakai sampai saat ini karena selain kemudahan dalam pemakaiannya Windows XP digunakan sebagai standarisasi pembelajaran yang di pakai oleh sekolahan-sekolahan dan perguruan tinggi pada umumnya.

Untuk melakukan penginstalan windows xp diperlukan ketelitian dan kesabaran dalam prosesnya karena memerlukan waktu yang lumayan lama.

Ada beberapa jenis windows xp diantaranya windows xp professional, Home Edition, Media Center Edition, Tablet PC Edition, Starter Edition, Professional x64 Edition, Professional 64-bit Edition For Itanium.

berikut langkah-langkah yang mudah dan lengkap cara menginstal Windows Xp :

1. Siapkan CD WINDOWS XP

2. Siapkan CD DRIVER MOTHERBOARD

3. Atur bios terlebih dahulu agar prioritas bootingnya dimulai dari CD(DVD)-ROM, caranya:

a. Masuk ke BIOS dengan menekan tombol Del, atau F1, atau juga F2.
Pilih menu Advanced Settings, kemudian carilah ‘Boot Priority’ atau yang sejenis.

b. ubah pengaturanya, agar CDROM jadi urutan yang pertama kemungkinan pilihan ini ada 2 jenis

* menu ‘First boot priority’, ‘Second boot priority’ dll: Aturlah ‘First boot priority’ ke ‘CDROM’ dengan menekan tombol PgDn/Pgup (Page Down/Up) atau +/-.
Atur juga ‘Second boot priority’nya ke HDD0/HDD1.
* Jika menunya ‘Boot priority’: atur ke ‘CDROM, C, A’ atau ‘CDROM, A,

C. dengan menekan tombol PgDn/Up.

Cara paling mudah instal windows xp
(lengkap dengan gambar):

gak usah di utak-atik biosnya. biarin aja bios diload masukin CD WINDOWSnya, lalu Restart komputer, trus tekan-tekan F8 atau F10 atau F11 (boleh dicoba satu-satu) nanti bakal muncul opsi boot selection. pilih aja yg ada 'bau' cd-nya. trus enter. selesai deh...ga pake repot-repot...

4. Tunggu beberapa saat sampai muncul tulisan "press any key to boot from CD" seperti tampilan Seperti gambar di bawah ini

5. Tekan ENTER atau sembarang tombol, lalu proses instalasi akan mengecek hardware komputer anda, kemudian akan muncul tulisan "windows setup" seperti gambar dibawah ini

6. lalu file-file di dalam cd akan di load ke dalam komputer, kemudian akan muncul tampilan "welcome to setup" seperti gambar dibawah ini

7. Tekan "ENTER" untuk menginstal windows xp, "R" untuk repair system windows yang sebelumnya pernah terinstal, "F3" untuk keluar dari proses instalasi, lalu akan muncul (End User Licese Aggrement) seperti gambar di bawah ini

8. Tekan "F8" kemudian proses instalasi akan mencari dan membaca partisi hardisk anda, kemudian akan muncul semua partisi hardisk anda, seperti gambar di bawah ini

9. Tekan "ENTER" untuk langsung menginstal windows, "C" untuk membuat partisi hardisk anda, kapasitas partisi sesuai dengan kebutuhan anda, dalam satuan MB, selanjutnya jika anda membuat partisi dengan menekan tombol "C", maka akan muncul gambar seperti di bawah ini

10. Kemudian tuliskan kapasitas partisi yang ingin anda buat, seperti terlihat pada gambar diatas, sebagai contoh, misalkan kapasitas hardisk anda 40 GB, lalu anda ingin membagi dua, maka tuliskan 20000,jangan 20, karna partisi satuannya MB, tentunya anda mengerti kan...?? cat" 1GB = 1000 MB

11. Kenudian tekan "ENTER" maka akan muncul gambar seperti dibawah ini

12. kemudian pilih "format the partition using the NTFS file system (Quick)" atau "format the partition using the NTFS file system (Quick)" lalu tekan "ENTER" maka akan muncul layar sepert gambar di bawah ini

13. Kemudian arahkan pointer pada posisi "unpartitioned space", lalu tekan "C" maka akan muncul gambar seperti gambar sebelumnya, dalam hal ini layar yang akan muncul seperti gambar sebelumnya menunjukan sisa partisi yang telah anda bagi, jika anda cuma membagi 2 partisi saja maka langsung tekan "ENTER" tapi jika anda ingin mempartisi lagi sisa hardisknya maka tinggal di bagi lagi aj, seperti langkah-langkah sebelumnya, mengertikan maksud saya....??
setelah selesai partisi ketika anda menekan "ENTER" seperti yang di jelaskan di atas, maka akan muncul gambar sperti gambar diatas, setelah itu arahkan poiter di posisi C: partition1 [New Raw], tapi biasanya sudah berada di posisi tersebut, maka anda tinggal menekan "ENTER" saja untuk proses instalasi windows, kemudian akan muncul proses format seperti gambar di bawah ini

14. Setelah selesai format, kemudian windows akan ,menyalin file untuk proses instalasi, seperti gambar di bawah ini

15. Setelah proses penyalinan selesai, secara otomatis komputer akan melakukan restart seperti gambar di bawah ini, dalam hal ini untuk mempercepat proses restart, anda bisa langsung menekan "ENTER"

16. Setelah itu akan muncul loading windows seperti gambar di bawah ini

17. selanjutnya proses instalasi windows di mulai 1..2..3...GOoooo muncul layar seperti gambar di bawah ini

18. selanjutnya tinggal menunggu, sambil ngopi jg bisa, biar lebih terinspirasi, eitssss, tp jangan kemana mana dulu, karna selanjutnya akan muncul layar seperti gambar di bawah ini

19. Langsung klik "NEXT" aja BOS...!!! lalu mucul lagi bos layar seperti gambar di bawah ini

20. Isi nama dan organisasinya, terserah BOS aja... lalu tekan "NEXT" kemudian akan muncul layar seperti gambar di bawah ini

21. Masukan serial nombernya, jangan sampe salah ya....!!! kemudian tekan "Next" selanjutnya akan muncul layar administrator, isi aja mau dinamain apa komputernya, terserah deeeehhhhh......
kalau mau pake pasword tinggal di isi juga paswordnya, terserah juga mo apa paswordnya.... lalu tekan "Next" maka muncul layar Date and Time Setting seperti gambar di bawah ini

22. Masukan settingan jam dan tanggal, tentukan juga time zone anda, untuk jakarta : pilih GMT+7 Klik "Next" lagi BOS.... setelah proses instalasi windows delanjutkan, seperti gambar di bawah ini

23. Silahkan Menunggu lumayan lama BOS,.... sampai muncul layar seperti gambar di bawah ini

24. Selanjutnya akan muncul layar work group or computer Domain,seperti gambar di bawah ini

25. jika komputer anda terhubung dengan sebuah domain, maka isikan nama domainnya, tapi jika komputer anda stand alone, maka pilih radio button yang paling atas, lalu tekan "Next"

26. Selanjutnya akan muncul display setting, seperti gambar di bawah ini, klik "OK" aja BOS....!!!

27. Kemudian windows akan mendeteksi tampilan optimal dari PC anda, seperti terlihat pada gambar di bawah ini, Klik "OK" aj BOS...!!!

28. Proses instalasi hampir selesai BOS..... selanjutnya akan muncul loading jendela windows seperti gambar di bawah ini

29. Selanjutnya anda akan dibawa masuk ke dalam windows untuk pertama kalinya seperti terlihat pada gambar di bawah ini, tekan "Next" aj BOS..

30. Selanjutnya akan muncul layar "Help Protect Your PC", seperti gambar di bawah ini, kemudian pilih "Not Right Now" lalu tekan "Next"

Setelah itu akan muncul tampilan seperti gambar di bawah ini yang menunjukan pilihan untuk menambah pengguna komputer, Anda bisa memasukkan beberapa pengguna yang akan mengakses komputer Anda, Namun jika satu akun sudah cukup, atau Anda menginstall komputer untuk dipakai bergantian, cukup masukkan satu user kemudian klik "Next"

34. Proses instalasi windows selesai, kemudian akan muncul layar seperti gambar di bawah ini, klik "finish", maka proses instalasi selesai.....

35. Selesailah sudah semua.... kemudian perlahan masuk ke windowsnya seperti telihat pada gambar di bawah ini

36. Kemudian tinggal menginstal CD Driver Motherboad, dan perangkat pendukung lainnya....

Macam - Macam Distro Linux

Kenapa sih linux banyak banget macemnya?harus pilih yang mana nih? Nah ini dia pertanyaan yang biasanya dilontarkan oleh pengguna linux baru. Linux banyak macamnya dan biasa disebut distro linux, karena yang buat linux banyak juga, gak kaya windows nya microsoft sama macintosh nya apple, kalo dua tadi ga boleh di otak-atik and dijual lagi tanpa izin, bisa masuk penjara ente. Linux berlisensi GNU GPL, maksudnya boleh diperbanyak and boleh dimodifikasi asal masih sesuai dari ketentuan lisensi GPL. Trus gimana caranya milih distro linux? gampang, cari aja yang sesuai kebutuhan atau banyak dipake orang and gampang dipake-nya.
Dibawah saya jelasin secara singkat distro-distro yang lumayan populer di Indonesia.

Ubuntu
Merupakan distro linux paling populer dan turunan dari Debian. Cocok untuk pengguna awam, karena mudah digunakandan fiturnyapun lengkap. Distro ini memakai Gnome Desktop. Distro ini juga gampang didapetin, gratis lagi, dateng aja ke shipit.ubuntu.com trus register jadi member ama isi formulir pemesananya, nanti CD Ubuntunya langsung dianterin ke. rumah, cuman kalo pengalaman saya, nyampe ke rumahnya ampe 3 minggu, trus ama tukang posnya suruh bayar Rp 3000 buat bea impor, tapi ga papa namanya aja gratis. Ubuntu juga banyak komunitasnya termasuk di Indonesia jadi ga usah takut kesusahan nyari orang yang ahli.

RedHat
Redhat artinya topi merah(bagi yg ga bisa bhs.inggris). Sekarang sih cuman tersedia yang enterprise aja alias bayar. Lagi pula itu cocoknya buat komputer server, kalo yang versi desktopnya dan gratis ada fedora(dijelasin lebih lanjut dibawah).

Debian GNU/Linux Namanya itu gabungan dari pembuatnya Ian murdock sama istrinya Debra(Deb+Ian), cuman sekarang udah jadi mantan istri, eh koq malah ngomongin laki bini. Distro ini dikembangin lewat internet, jadinya ga ada perusahaan tertentu yang punya. Kalo pake distro satu ini lumayan susah, emang didesain untuk ketahanan dan sekuriti(bukan satpam), pokoknya harus advance lah kalo pengen pake distro ini.

Slackware
Nah ini nih mbahnya distro linux. Mengutamakan kestabilan dan simple berdasarkan prinsip KISS(Keep It Simple Stupid). Menginstall Slackware lumayan susah karena langsung dari source kode saya juga blom pernah nginstallnya dan sedikit aplikasi yang menggunakan GUI, tetapi ini dimaksudkan agar memenuhi syarat prinsip open source yang menganjurkan transparasi kode.

FedoraDistro ini lanjutan dari RedHat dan disponsori langsung ama dia. Lumayan terkenal sih, bahkan Linus torvalds yang bikin linux pake distro ini coy. Kalau RedHat kan bayar, kalo ini gratisannya and cocok buat dipake di komputer rumahan.

MandrivaDulunya bernama mandrake, tapi pada tahun 2005 Mandrakesoft bergabung dengan conectiva dan memutuskan nama baru mandriva. Distro ini dioptimasi buat jalan diprosessor Intel. Jadinya yang pake Intel pasti linuxnya jalan lebih cepet dibanding pake AMD ama VIA. Ngomong-ngomong saya juga pake distro ini loh.

SuSe
SuSe merupakan terjemahan bahasa jerman dari Slackware dan merupakan akronim dari "Software- und System-Entwicklung" ("Software and system development"). Distro ini merupakan distribusi yang pertama dimana instalasinya dapat menggunakan bahasa Indonesia. Distro ini juga lumayan banyak dipake di Indonesia, desktop nya pake KDE jadi lumayan gampang dalam pengoperasiannya.

Sejarah dari adanya intenet dimulai pada tahun 1969 ketika itu Departemen Pertahanan Amerika, U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency(DARPA) memutuskan untuk mengadakan riset tentang bagaimana cara menghubungkan sejumlah komputer sehingga membentuk jaringan organik.
Program riset ini dikenal dengan nama ARPANET. Pada 1970, sudah lebih dari 10 komputer yang berhasil dihubungkan satu sama lain sehingga mereka bisa saling berkomunikasi dan membentuk sebuah jaringan.

Tahun 1972, Roy Tomlinson berhasil menyempurnakan program e-mail yang ia ciptakan setahun yang lalu untuk ARPANET. Program e-mail ini begitu mudah sehingga langsung menjadi populer. Pada tahun yang sama, icon @juga diperkenalkan sebagai lambang penting yang menunjukkan “at” atau “pada”. Tahun 1973, jaringan komputer ARPANET mulai dikembangkan ke luar Amerika Serikat.
Komputer University College di London merupakan komputer pertama yang ada di luar Amerika yang menjadi anggota jaringan Arpanet. Pada tahun yang sama, dua orang ahli komputer yakni Vinton Cerf dan Bob Kahn mempresentasikan sebuah gagasan yang lebih besar, yang menjadi cikal bakal pemikiran internet. Ide ini dipresentasikan untuk pertama kalinya di Universitas Sussex.
Hari bersejarah berikutnya adalah tanggal 26 Maret 1976, ketika Ratu Inggris berhasil mengirimkan e-mail dari Royal Signals and Radar Establishment di Malvern. Setahun kemudian, sudah lebih dari 100 komputer yang bergabung di ARPANET membentuk sebuah jaringan atau network. Pada 1979, Tom Truscott, Jim Ellis dan Steve Bellovin, menciptakan newsgroups pertama yang diberi nama USENET. Tahun 1981 France Telecom menciptakan gebrakan dengan meluncurkan telpon televisi pertama, dimana orang bisa saling menelpon sambil berhubungan dengan video link.
Karena komputer yang membentuk jaringan semakin hari semakin banyak, maka dibutuhkan sebuah protokol resmi yang diakui oleh semua jaringan. Pada tahun 1982 dibentuk Transmission Control Protocol atau TCP dan Internet Protokol atau IP yang kita kenal semua. Sementara itu di Eropa muncul jaringan komputer tandingan yang dikenal dengan Eunet, yang menyediakan jasa jaringan komputer di negara-negara Belanda, Inggris, Denmark dan Swedia. Jaringan Eunet menyediakan jasa e-mail dan newsgroup USENET.
Untuk menyeragamkan alamat di jaringan komputer yang ada, maka pada tahun 1984 diperkenalkan sistem nama domain, yang kini kita kenal dengan DNS atau Domain Name System. Komputer yang tersambung dengan jaringan yang ada sudah melebihi 1000 komputer lebih. Pada 1987 jumlah komputer yang tersambung ke jaringan melonjak 10 kali lipat manjadi 10.000 lebih.
Tahun 1988, Jarko Oikarinen dari Finland menemukan dan sekaligus memperkenalkan IRC atau Internet Relay Chat. Setahun kemudian, jumlah komputer yang saling berhubungan kembali melonjak 10 kali lipat dalam setahun. Tak kurang dari 100.000 komputer kini membentuk sebuah jaringan. Tahun 1990 adalah tahun yang paling bersejarah, ketika Tim Berners Lee menemukan program editor dan browser yang bisa menjelajah antara satu komputer dengan komputer yang lainnya, yang membentuk jaringan itu. Program inilah yang disebut www, atau Worl Wide Web.
Tahun 1992, komputer yang saling tersambung membentuk jaringan sudah melampaui sejuta komputer, dan di tahun yang sama muncul istilah surfing the internet. Tahun 1994, situs internet telah tumbuh menjadi 3000 alamat halaman, dan untuk pertama kalinya virtual-shopping atau e-retail muncul di internet. Dunia langsung berubah. Di tahun yang sama Yahoo! didirikan, yang juga sekaligus kelahiran Netscape Navigator 1.0.

Langkah - Langkah Membuat Blog

Langkah langkah membuat Blog pada Blogger. Kali ini, saya akan mengajarkan bagaimana cara untuk membangun suatu website gratis, tanpa harus mengeluarkan biaya untuk pembelian domain dan hosting. Tidak mungkin asing lagi kan kalau kamu mendengar Blog atau Blogger? Google membuat suatu fasilitas gratis yaitu blog untuk orang-orang yang ingin membuat suatu website gratis disini.Yang membedakan jika website hanyalah situs yang menyediakan informasi satu arah bagi pengunjungnya, sedangkan blog atau webblog menyediakan informasi secara dua arah, jadi para pengunjung bisa memberikan komentar tentang artikel atau content yang disediakan oleh pengelola blog itu, atau istilah lain Admin.
Oh ya istilah lain dari blog adalah CMS jika dipanjangkan jadi Content Management Sistem. sedangkan orang yang mempunyai blog istilah nya blogger.

Okelah, tanpa berbasa basi lagi, saya akan menerangkan dan menjelaskan langkah langkah membuat blog di blogger. Ini adalah suatu contoh cara membuat blog...

1. Yang harus kamu siapkan dan wajib sebelum membuat atau bikin blog di blogspot (blogger) adalah memiliki email terlebih dahulu. Usahakan kamu mendaftarkan atau memiliki e-mail yang dari Google Mail (Gmail) agar lebih mudah lagi saat pembuatan blog ini, karena Blogger dan Google itu satu perusahaan.
2. Jika sudah membuat email, bukalah alamat www.blogger.com, dan pastikan yang muncul adalah website seperti di bawah ini

kemudian klik gambar panah orange yang bertuliskan CIPTAKAN BLOG ANDA

3. Setelah itu akan muncul halaman seperti di bawah ini

pada kolom alamat email : masukan email kamu
ketik ulang alamat email : masukan lagi email yang sama seperti diatas

masukan sebuah paswod : isiakan kanta kunci (minimal 8 karakter, bisa huruf bisa angka)
ketikan ulang sandi : masukan lagi paswod yang telah kamu masukan sama dengan yang di atas

Nama tampilan : isi nama kamu atau nama alias kamu (ini akan tampil bersamaa dengan posting, artikel yang kamu buat)

verifikasi : masukkan gambar kata yang terdapat di atas kolom.

4. Kemudian akan muncul seperti ini

Isilah Judul Blog sesuai dengan keinginannmu
isi juga alamat blog sesuai dengan keinginanmu juga, jika alamatmu menggunakan 2 kata atau lebih. pisahlah dengan tanda titik ( . ) atau tanda ( – ). karena tidak bisa menggunakan spasi.

terkadang alamat blog yang kita tulis sudah pakai oleh orang lain, jika sudah dipakai orang lain berati tidak bisa digunakan. Untuk mengetahui sudah dipakai orang lain atau belum Klik saja link “cek ketersediaan” jika belum dipakai orang lain, maka di bawahnya akan muncul tulisan warna hijau yang bertuliskan Alamat blog ini tersedia

jika sudah klik menu lanjutkan

5. Setelah kamu klik menu lanjutkan.. akan muncul halaman seperti ini

itu adalah jendela disain template. untuk memilih tinggal klik salah satu. kemudian menu klik lanjutkan, maka yang muncul adalah gambar seperti ini

dengan begitu kamu telah selesai membuat suatu blog…. sekarang tinggal mengisi dengan artikel kamu saja..

6. okelah langsung saja kita belajar mengisi artikel… Kliklah tombol panah Mulai Blogging
maka akan muncul gambar seperti di bawah ini, gambar di bawah merupakan contoh pengisian artikel

Kolom judul untuk judul artikel
dalam kolom yang lebar di bawahnya itu untuk menulis artikel kamu
dan label untuk mengisi jenis kategory artikel.

jika sudah diisi semua kemudian tekan menu MEMPUBLIKASIKAN POSTING, jika muncul seperti ini

maka kamu telah berhasil membuat satu artikel, untuk melihatnya klik menu Lihat BLog

maka yang tampil akan seperti ini

jika sudah muncul seperti itu.. kamu berati telah selesai dan berhasil membuat posting

7. Suatu saat jika ingin memposting artikel baru lagi, kamu tidak perlu mendaftar lagi… tinggal buka https://www.blogger.com/start, kemudian
masukkan email kamu, dan paswod kamu saja, kemudian klik menu “masuk” maka kamu akan di bawa ke menu dashboard,

sesaat kemudian kamu akan masuk pada dasboard bloger kamu, di situ kamu bisa mengedit, membuat posting, ataupun mengatur setting blog kamu.

dan yang terakhir, agar akun blogger kamu bisa digunakan secara penuh, jangan lupa konfirmasi dulu aku bloger kamu. caranya cek email yang kamu gunakan untuk mendaftar, di situ akan terdapat satu buah email dari blogger berisi link konfirmasi. klik link tersebut, seperti gambar di bawah ini

setelah kamu klik link tersebut, kamu akan diarahkan ke halaman seperti gambar di bawah ini, menunjukkan akun blogger kamu sudah dikonfirmasi.

8. Oh iya jika kamu sudah mempunyai email di Gmail. kamu tida perlu mendaftar dari awal… tapi langsung saja masukkan alamat email gmail kamu dan paswod kamu, kemudian klik menu masuk.

jika menggunakan email dari Gmail, kamu tidak perlu memasukan paswod dan email lain ataupun capta kode lagi… tinggal masukkan nama tampilan saja

Langkah - Langkah membuat Milis (Mailing list)

Mailing List atau sering disebut dengan Milis, merupakan daftar orang-orang yang bergabung didalam suatu komunitas tertentu yang secara periodik dikirimi surat elektronik (email).

Manusia pada dasarnya merupakan makhluk sosial dan selalu memiliki kecenderungan untuk membentuk komunitas. Dalam berhubungan dengan komunitasnya (misalnya dengan saudara-saudara dalam suatu keluarga besar yang tersebar diberbagai daerah atau dengan eks teman-teman sekolah yang telah tersebar kepelosok bumi ini), tentu akan sangat amat sulit sekali apabila harus mengumpulkan semua. Untuk itu memanfaatkan teknologi mailing list adalah jalan yang dapat memperlancar komunikasi (tentu milis bukan satu-satunya yang dapat dijadikan sarana komunikasi tersebut, masih ada Web Forum, Chat room dan lain-lain dengan segala kelebihan dan kekurangannya)

Singkatnya, dengan berkomunikasi memanfaatkan teknologi milis, seluruh anggota milis dapat menerima email yang dikirim oleh salah satu anggota tanpa perlu mengirim satu persatu ke masing-masing anggota (bayangkan bila anggota milis suatu alumni sekolah mencapai ratusan dan harus mengirim satu per satu)

Ada 2 cara Membuat Mailing List :

Membangun sendiri server mailing list atau yang sering disebut Listserver (tidak dibahas disini)
Menggunakan Listserver yang ditawarkan oleh beberapa hosting milis, dapat digunakan tanpa mengeluarkan biaya apapun alias gratiiiss seperti Yahoo! Group atau Google Group

Cara Membuat Mailing List di Yahoo! Group dan Google Group

1. Buat account email Yahoo! ID

2. Untuk membuat Mailing List pada kedua group hampir sama, selanjut ikuti penjelasan dibawah pada Yahoo! Group saja ->Lakukan login dengan Yahoo! ID, klik create a group yang akan kita buat atau langsung klik start your group ->

3. Lakukan 3 tahapan yaitu -> memilih Categori (isi kolom atau ada pilihan,setelah itu, klik Place my group in ….) continue -> Describe Your Group -> isi nama group -> buat alamat email group (yang akan digunakan sebagai alamat milis) -> isi discription (misal Ikatan Alumni atau Perkumpulan Hobi Makan dll) -> klik Continue

4. Create Profile bila anda inginkan -> isi word verification -> klik Continue

Selesai ! Anda telah memiliki Mailing List pada Yahoo! Group.

Selanjutnya yang perlu dilakukan untuk pengaturan lain dan ini hanya berupa pertanyaan2 yang dapat kita isi dengan sangat mudah seperti :

1.Siapa saja yang kita inginkan bergabung dalam milis

2.Apakah untuk bergabung harus dengan persetujuan terlebih dahulu dari moderator

3.Siapa saja yang boleh posting ke group

4.Siapa yang boleh mengundang menjadi anggota

5.Siapa yang dapat mengedit halaman milis

6.Apakah setiap anggota dapat menerima email setiap posting dari anggota dll

7.Dan lain-lain, lakukan langkah-langkah tersebut dengan perlahan-lahan, sangat mudah sekali

Setelah selesai, undang teman dengan mengisi account email yang ingin di undang.

Pengertian POP3

Saat ini di kalangan masyarakat pengguna internet, POP bukanlah suatu barang baru. Dengan menggunakan POP, seseorang mendapat kemudahan untuk mendapatkan mail miliknya dari sebuah mail server, tanpa perlu koneksi yang lama dengan internet yang tentu saja memakan biaya. Dibawah ini, penulis akan sedikit menerangkan tentang cara kerja dari POP. Pada tulisan ini, akan banyak ditemui istilah client dan server. Client dan server merupakan bagian dari arsitektur yang banyak digunakan pada implementasi layanan internet. Arsitektur ini biasa disebut sebagai client/server architecture. Pengertian client pada pembahasan tentang POP3 ini adalah pihak yang menggunakan layanan POP3 dan server adalah pihak yang menyediakan layanannya

Apakah POP itu ?

POP atau Post Office Protocol, sesuai dengan namanya merupakan protokol yang digunakan untuk pengelolaan mail. POP yang sekarang lebih umum dikenal dengan POP3 (POP – Version 3), dimaksudkan untuk mengizinkan client untuk mengakses secara dinamis mail yang masih ada di POP3 server. POP3 menawarkan pada user untuk meninggalkan mail-nya di POP3 server, dan mengambil mail-nya tersebut dari sejumlah sistem sebarang. Untuk mengambil mail dengan menggunakan POP3 dari suatu client, banyak pilihan yang dapat digunakan seperti Sun Microsystem Inc.’s Mailtool, QualComm Inc.’s Eudora, Netscape Comm. Corp.’s Netscape Mail dan Microsoft Corp.’s Outlook Express.

POP3 tidak dimaksudkan untuk menyediakan operasi manipulasi mail yang ada di server secara luas. Pada POP3, mail diambil dari server dan kemudian dihapus (bisa juga tidak dihapus). Segala sesuatu tentang protokol POP3 ini dibahas dalam RFC (Request For Comment) 1725. Protokol yang lebih tinggi dan lebih kompleks, yaitu IMAP4, dibahas dalam RFC 1730.

Mode POP3

Ada dua jenis mode pada POP3 yaitu mode offline dan mode inline. Pada mode offline, POP3 mengambil dan kemudian menghapus mail yang tersimpan dari server. POP3 bekerja dengan baik pada mode ini, karena terutama memang didisain untuk berlaku sebagai sebuah sistem mail yang memiliki sifat “store-and-forward”. Server, pada mode offline, berlaku seperti sebuah tempat penampungan yang menyimpan mail sampai user memintanya.

Pada mode inline, POP3 akan mengambil mail dari server tanpa menghapus mail yang sudah diambil tersebut. Mode ini lebih disukai oleh user yang sering berpindah tempat (nomadic user) karena memungkinkan mereka untuk melihat mail yang sama dari tempat atau komputer yang berbeda. Akan tetapi untuk nomadic user yang selalu bekerja dan bepergian dengan selalu membawa notebook, dan tetap menginginkan agar mail miliknya yang ada di server tidak dihapus, tentu saja menginginkan agar setiap kali mengambil mail tidak semua mail yang akan terambil, tapi hanya mail yang belum pernah dia lihat saja yang akan diambil. Keinginan user seperti ini dapat dipenuhi dengan menggunakan informasi pada client yang memungkinkan untuk memberi tanda mail yang sudah pernah dilihat. Setiap client layanan POP3 yang mendukung mode inline akan menyimpan informasi ini dalam sebuah file. Pada user yang menggunakan Netscape Mail, file yang menyimpan informasi ini adalah file popstate.dat, yang biasanya terdapat di /Program Files/Netscape/Users/Mail. File tersebut memberi tahu mail yang mana saja yang sudah diambil sehingga tidak perlu diambil lagi. Jika file ini dihapus maka tentu saja pada pengambilan mail berikutnya semua mail akan terambil. Contoh isi file popstate.dat untuk seorang user yang memiliki login misalnya ‘wandi’ di POP3 server students.itb.ac.id adalah sebagai berikut :

Unique-id ini secara unik mengidentifikasi sebuah mail dalam maildrop sehingga masing-masing mail memiliki unique-id yang berbeda. Jika misalnya mail kita yang berada di komputer lokal sudah terhapus sedangkan kita ingin membacanya lagi, maka sebelum kita mengambil maildrop dari server, file popstate.dat ini harus dihapus terlebih dahulu. Apabila kita belum menghapus file tersebut maka akan ada pesan : ” no new messages on server “, yang diberikan oleh Netscape Mail. Untuk pemakai Eudora, file yang menyimpan informasi ini adalah file lmos.dat, sedangkan untuk pengguna Outlook Express biasanya menggunakan file pop3uidl.dat.

Sedangkan protokol kedua bernama POP3 (Post Office Protocol version 3), yang bertugas menangani pesan-pesan elektronik yang masuk ke kotak pos Anda.

Ketika Anda mengirim sebuah pesan elektronik, komputer Anda akan mengarahkan pesan tersebut ke sebuah SMTP server, untuk diteruskan ke mail-server tujuan. Mail-server tujuan ini bisa dianalogikan sebagai kotak pos di pagar depan rumah Anda, atau kotak PO BOX di kantor pos. Pesan-pesan yang terkirim akan tetap di tempat tersebut hingga si pemiliknya mengambilnya. Urusan pengambilan pesan elektronik tersebut ditangani oleh protokol bernama POP3 tadi.

Untuk mengambil pesan yang ada di mail server, mail server memberikan fasilitas bernama webmail yang memungkinkan Anda mengelola e-mail dari mana saja di seluruh dunia. Yang penting, komputer Anda memiliki akses internet.

Webmail ini bisa diakses melalui browser seperti Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, dan sebagainya. Anda tinggal mengetikkan alamat URL dari webmail tersebut (misalnya http://mail.yahoo.com atau http://mail.google.com), masuk kedalam webmail tersebut dengan login terlebih dahulu. Anda akan segera bisa melihat pesan-pesan yang masuk di “kotak surat” (inbox) Anda. Ini yang disebut pengelolaan email menggunakan webmail.

Sementara POP client (atau email client) adalah software pengelola e-mail yang bertugas untuk memindahkan pesan-pesan email dari mail server Anda ke harddisk di komputer Anda. Karena tugasnya adalah memindahkan, maka inbox di mail server Anda akan kosong setelah pesan-pesan tersebut masuk ke komputer Anda.

Ada banyak program email client yang tersedia saat ini, seperti Microsoft Outlook dan Outlook Express, Mozilla Thunderbird, dan masih banyak lagi. Agar email Anda di server bisa diambil dengan sukses oleh program e-mail client, Anda harus mengatur setting untuk POP3 dan SMTP account pada program email client.

Untuk POP3 account biasanya bersifat fixed, tidak bisa diubah-ubah. Jika Anda menggunakan account e-mail CBN misalnya, maka POP3 accountnya adalah pop.cbn.net.id. Sedangkan SMTP account biasanya lebih fleksibel, karena tergantung dari ISP yang Anda gunakan. Misalnya Anda menggunakan account email gratisan dari hotpop.com. Anda bisa menggunakan SMTP account-nya hotpop.com (smtp.hotpop.com), atau SMTP dari ISP Anda (untuk CBN, SMTP account-nya adalah smtp.cbn.net.id).

Secara umum, penggunaan e-mail client akan meminimalisir ketergantungan Anda terhadap akses internet. Kenapa? Karena koneksi internet hanya Anda butuhkan ketika melakukan dua hal:

mengambil email dari mail server Anda
ketika Anda hendak mengirim e-mail.

Anda sama sekali tidak membutuhkan koneksi internet ketika membaca atau mengetik pesan e-mail. Lalu mana yang lebih baik digunakan ?

Tidak mudah menyebut mana yang yang lebih baik, masing-masing memiliki kelebihan dan kekurangan sendiri. Keunggulan utama webmail adalah kemampuannya untuk diakses dari mana saja di seluruh dunia. Dari kantor, warnet, rumah, luar negeri, rumah tetangga, atau dari tempat lain, terserah Anda. Yang penting, komputer yang Anda pakai memiliki akses internet. Kemudahan seperti ini disebabkan e-mail yang Anda kelola berada di mail server tertentu, bukan di komputer pribadi Anda.

Sedangkan kelemahan webmail adalah ketergantungannya yang sangat tinggi terhadap akses internet. Selama mengelola e-mail, Anda harus terkoneksi terus ke internet. Jika koneksi terputus maka terhentilah gerakan anda.

Kelemahan webmail lainnya adalah dalam hal kuota. Ada pembatasan tertentu terhadap kapasitas mail serverAnda. Ketika kuota dalam kondisi out of limit maka Anda tidak akan bisa menerima pesan-pesan baru. Solusinya ? Ya harus membuang pesan-pesan yang tidak penting.

Sedangkan email client memiliki memiliki keunggulan dan kelemahan yang sebaliknya. Keunggulannya yakni dapat menghemat koneksi internet. Anda cukup terkoneksi ketika melakukan Send and Receive. Setelah itu, Anda bisa membaca dan menulis email secara offline. Keunggulan lainnya, proses pembacaan pesan sangatlah gampang. Anda tinggal mengklik subject sebuah pesan, lalu dalam sekejap Anda akan bisa membacanya. Bahkan hampir semua program e-mail client memiliki fasilitas Auto Preview, yang membuat proses pembacaan e-mail menjadi lebih mudah. Anda juga tak perlu khawatir soal kuota, karena pesan-pesan e-mail Anda telah berpindah dari mail server ke komputer pribadi Anda.

Sedangkan kelemahan utama e-mail client adalah keterbatasannya dalam mengakses pesan e-mail Anda. Anda hanya bisa mengakses e-mail Anda dari komputer pribadi Anda, tidak bisa dari komputer tetangga, warnet, apalagi dari luar negeri. Selain itu, apabila Anda kurang hati-hati, pesan-pesan rahasia di inbox Anda bisa dibaca oleh orang lain dengan gampang. Memang, ada fasilitas Identity seperti di Outlook Express yang sanggup melindungi Anda dari kemungkinan terbacanya e-mail Anda oleh pihak-pihak yang tidak berkepentingan.
