Paul Walker plays an American visiting South Africa who unwittingly gets caught up in a high-speed, deadly quagmire with local police in this 2013 thriller. The muddy scenario gets an equally muddy action score. The score’s tires spin off trails of throbbing electronica and dubstep (“Burning all the Way”) and murky synthesizer ambience (“Keep it Clean”). The music explodes with adrenaline in tracks like “The Discovery” and “The Drop Off,” blasted along by wailing electric guitar and relentless percussion. A fragile, echoey motif for low piano provides the score’s heart, mourning “Rachel’s Death” and returning again in “Car Wash” and “End of the Road.”

Strange Pukehina sea creature

This strange marine creature washed up dead on Pukehina Beach in the Bay of Plenty last week after some violent storms. Can anyone identify what it is? It is has a huge head and teeth with rudimentary flippers. It seems about 9M in length but the lower part of the body is probably mainly entrails from an attack.
