New Synthetic hair blends!

I'm loving the marbled, candy-cane look I'm getting with these chunky hair blends. Right now I'm using sea green, medium purple and hot pink in different combinations to get this nice, Jolly Rancher-type look. My hair order from ikickshins.net just came in and I'm super happy with the hair and the speedy shipping!

Also, I just grabbed a lot of bright and colorful fruit shaped beads, so I'll no doubt be posting whatever I come up with to spread the fruity love (in all variations, lol)!

Ooh, more hair to play with! I want to marble the purple, pink and green separately with the silvery white color, and play around with adding the other two pinks in. I'm not even sure I'll be making any solids for this set at all, but...I probably should. I'm also nearly finished with a set of two black and red dread falls I'll be putting up for sale soon...soon-ish, really. I'm back in school and spending way too much time on my Elemental Shaman in Searing Gorge.

Well, I just haven't been very productive lately. Or rather, I haven't been creating anything that can be posted here. Fiction and homework don't really go with the theme, dont'cha know?

I've been hard at work, backcombing and steaming for hours to create a brand new full set of SE long dreads to install for the winter. I don't think I've ever posted any of my handmade dreads on the blog, so I'm excited to share this new set with you guys.

The first set is for myself, a full set of single ended pencil thin dreads made from 100% Kanekalon hair, backcombed and double sealed with water/steam. The colors used are Black, Sweet Red and Red Tomato. These dreads are long, using the full length of the hair instead of cutting it in half. They are mostly solid colors with some candy cane accents. This is actually only half of the full set, I am actually going to install close to 80 dreads since I grew in the sides of my hair.

These cute little blue guys are going to be part of an accent set I'm going to sell. The set will include SE transitionals, solids, and candy canes, and all of the dreads will be medium length. The colors used are Baby Blue (shown here) and Navy. I think the dread count will be around 20, which can be used to make a smaller fall, to add to another set, or to braid into your hair as accents.

Backcombing these things is no joke, and the sealing process is bordering on dangerous :) However, I love synthetic dreads and all the fun things you can do with them, and I can't wait to finish my set so I can braid them in!

Yesterday was a big jewelry day for me. I'm basically on a manhunt for one last client to finish my nutritional internship, so until my new celebrity client comes knocking on my door, I'm gonna keep making fun bracelets. I like making bracelets in particular :)

I started experimenting with using cotton yarn to make jewelry. Here's a zig zag pattern keychain and a candy stripe bracelet using blue tye-dyed yarn.

Here's a new floss pattern, a bordered chevron as it's called on teh intrawebs :)

I really like that new pattern, but it takes a bit longer to make.

A few new color cotton and hemp bracelets with random glass and wooden beads. No varnish or toxins!

I'm really interested in simplicity when it comes to the hemp since the colors are so bright! The one right next to the blue one is actually pink and purple swirl! I really like that one.

I'm sending these out to be sold on commission, so they are no longer for sale online, but I thought I would give you a quick look since some of them never even made it online before they shipped out to the front lines. They're now off to a high school, where I'm sure they'll be loved and appreciated :)

The hemp and cotton color collection

I really like using this cotton cord with hemp, and I've just gotten a hold of a few more colors, so I'm going to begin on a second color collection soon. I've really been focusing on thread based jewelry recently. Here's what's on it's way out today

Sigh...I'm almost sad to see them go. Their first day at school...time passes so quickly!

I'm thinking of using my handmade clay beads to make a colored cotton and hemp bracelet, but I can't decide on whether I should use blue or pink!

I love knot jewelry. You can just sit and make different knots for hours and release all of the mental toxins you have accumulated. I like to listen to my favorite internet radio show while I make jewelry. After spending hours doing dietary analysis case studies, researching for papers, book reports and projects, and caring for small children, it's nice to just sit and NOT think about anything. Plus, there are no toxic glues, varnishes or materials used in knot based jewelry. I only use thread, cotton, hemp, glass, and wood, although I've been branching out into clay and I definitely like it!

This week I'm showing off more thread based knotted bracelets in three different styles. First up are the arrow style knots, forward and reverse, in three different color combinations. All have loop based clasps, one with a braided end and two with plain string ties.

Also, I've made one Chinese Staircase style bracelet and two Candy Stripe style, including a nice, flashy rainbow Candy Stripe. I think it's my current favorite :)

These all have plain loose end ties which make it easy for any size wrist to get a custom fit.

New beads...

I'm no pro at polymer clay, but I got this nifty new bead roller and decided to give it a try. I only had pink and blue (surprise, surprise) clay, but that's all I needed to make these cute cotton candy swirl beads! One group is solid pink and blue beads, and the other is the cotton candy style. So much fun to make, so easy to bake, and so much more creative AND cheaper than trying to buy beads.

Considering I used less than 1/4 of each color block to make all these, and a block is only $1.30, I'd say I win the game :) Sorry, public, but I'm keeping these for a future project or two. More jewelry to come, so click on the subscribe button and keep updated easily.

First two up! One hemp necklace and one friendship bracelet!

Fish knot/braid style friendship bracelet, 9 inches total. This makes it long enough to be worn as an anklet or a bracelet, and will fit anyone. Colors used were light blue, hot pink, purple, black, and indigo. $1.50

24 Inch thin hemp necklace with alternating spiral and flat knots. Delicate looking for a hemp piece, the beads are wooden and the center is glass. Clasp is braided ends to tie together, which can then be twined around one another or tucked under the shirt. This is a long one, and each side measures a foot minus the braided ends. $5.00

In high school, jewelry making was an art and it was also therapy. Now, as I care for two children and pursue school full time, I'm finding more and more reason to rely on art therapy once more. So, since I make an overwhelming amount of jewelry these days, I'm starting a blog to try and release these pieces into the world.
