When you unlock your android phone and put a sim card in from another carrier it can be a challenge to get the settings just right for MMS, LTE, 4G/3G etc.

AutoAPN takes care of this all for you

Just install AutoAPN.

Press Check Settings

Press Apply Settings

This will automatically adjust your APN settings to match the current sim card in your phone.

How To Do IT

Copy the custom recovery .img and su.zip files to the SDCard in your phone

Connect your phone via USB and put it into fastboot mode. reboot phone and hold volume down and power. If this doesn’t work try googling for “phonemodel how to get to fastboot or recovery”

once in fastboot mode on your pc enter the commands:

This will unlock your phone. Accept the onscreen prompt.

fastboot oem unlock

Temporarily boot your custom recovery image

fastboot boot customrecovery.img

In your custom recovery use the menu option to flash the SU.zip file from your SD card.

Now reboot your phone.

Your phone is now unlocked and able to run applications in super user mode!

Currently the technology is in its infancy with initial implementations being usb dongles that allow you to stream video from your phone or tablet to your tv like this product:

This technology will become the standard for wireless video technology because it uses HDCP to make the people in hollywood happy.  Next generation tablets, laptops and phones will all support this technology and it will be standard in new televisions as early as this Christmas Season.

This product will be a massive success in that it solves the problem of the set top box or home theatre pc for retail consumers and will also simplify setup for anyone with alot of tvs.

Watch WHDI over the coming months and see what happens.  I'm expecting all devices to support this at the next CES.

Let's face it the killer tablet app is the browser and they don't get any better than Chrome.  Chrome on Xoom feels more useful and familiar to your desktop than Safari on the iPad.  Chrome has tabs, can sync bookmarks and is real fast.  Also there is no better hardware available to run the new mobile version of Firefox 4.  It looks great and runs fast aswell on the tablet.

If you have a bunch of gmail accounts and use alot of google services the Xoom is hands down better than iPad1 or 2.

Anyone else pick one up what did you think?

Unlike Facebook, Google's "Like" clone will be able to provide a large benefit to consumers as they can use this information to make your search results better.  Facebook on the other hand captures all your personal details and "Likes" but doesn't really use it to help you in any way.  They might be able to guess what group you might like to be in, maybe recommend you some ads but i can't see any way that they are using all this personal informaiton or your "Likes" to help you in any way besides sharing with your friends.

This is why i would rather use google's "+1" than Facebook's "Like".  Both tools will share the fact i liked a link with my friends but Google has the added benefit of increasing my search relevancy and ad relevance across not only google sites but also sites on the content network.

Google's "+1" on search results is not really relevant to me however.  If it were an extension or addon or built directiy into chrome so I can +1 a page while im on it rather than having to go back to a search result page afer validating that might make more sense.

If you are getting redirected to your country specific version of google when you enter google.com try adding http://www.google.com/ncr.  This will ensure you stay on the US version of google.

Say your friend is on twitter and is already following a few hundred people that you want to follow it can be time consuming to go one by one clicking follow.

Instead just add our chrome extension and a helpful bar will show up at the bottom of chrome when your on twitter.com.

If there is a Follow or Unfollow button on the current page.  It will give you a link to click that will automatically click all the follow or unfollow buttons for you.  

If the number to Follow or Un Follow seems incorrect just click Refresh and the bar will refresh with the current count

Take note it will stop working after awhile as twitter limits how many people u can follow per day

If you spend much time using twitter atall i think you will find this extension quite helpful.

Here is one method we recommend on how to setup Google voice for use in Canada.

Step 1 - Pretend to be in the United States

 To activate your Google account you need to be in the US.  You have a few options here:

G oto the United states and use an internet connection at a cafe

Use a proxy, vnc, remote desktop to a computer in the US

Step 2 - Get a US Number

You need a US Number that you can receive a call on.  There are a number of options:

The easiest is to buy a number from Skype $20~

Step 3 - Activate Google Voice

With both Part A and B in place, go to http://www.google.com/voice

You should be able to sign up since your "in the US"

Use your temporary number as your primary number and do the google voice activation.

You now have a Google voice US Number.

Step 4 - Use Google Voice in Canada

You can now go to http://www.google.com/voice and use all the Google voice services whether you are in the US or not.

 Limitation here is the Android/iphone Google Voice app won't be able to "validate" your phone on your Canadian network.  You can however use the web app without issue by going to http://www.google.com/voice on your Android or iphone handset.

You can now benefit from free VOICEMAIL, SMS AND CALLS North American wide anytime.  Greedy telco operators beware!

Step 5 - Get a local Canadian Number to use with Google Voice

https://tellfi.com has started offering a paid Google Voice like service in Canada.  Sign up and get your free local Canadian phone number.

Use thier options to forward the phone number to your Google voice number and turn off the voicemail option.

You can now use a Canadian local number to allow people to call you using Google Voice.

Microsoft recently enabled active sync for all hotmail users.  This means your android phone has full support for synching email, contacts and calendar items onto the phone with any @msn, @live or @hotmail account.

Here are the setup instructions for users running Android 4.2.  These screenshots were taken from my Nexus 4.

Follow these steps to add a hotmail account to your android phone via Active Sync:

Open Settings and scroll down untill you see + Add Account
Click Corporate or Microsoft Exchange
Enter your email address (yourhotmail@msn.com) and password and click Next
Enter the following input for the following fields: Doman\Username: \yourhotmail@msn.com Password: ******** Exchange Server: m.hotmail.com
Change the settings to your liking.  The defaults are fine for most people.

Your hotmail account will now be created and ready for use.
