News: The final document of Sundin’s more quiet half

Sunspots is an album that was created during the same deep dive into the archives that produced the recent “Seven Year Silence” CD (issued by Fang Bomb) but has a very different personality. This is a much more subdued affair revisiting the same material that was recorded for the mp3 album Solsting and some of the last recordings made at the legendary The Cabin studio as well as other locations during the years 2000-2004 - making this the final document of Sundin’s more quiet half of this decade. What separates this album from his earlier ones from this era is that it is of a somewhat more improvised and fragile nature although the sounds are still carefully composed.

After several format changes, this album will finally be released in an exclusive 12” vinyl edition limited to 50 copies only. All the covers will be hand made by Sundin himself making each cover into an individual art work. Each cover will be drawn by hand and there is a possiblilty to get a personal dedication incorporated into the cover art, just state your name when placing your order.

Orders are limited to 1 copy per customer and this album will only be avaiable through the Komplott webstore.

News: Själens Ö and Sunspots update

Ronnie Sundins next release on Komplott will be mastered during May and the album format has been changed from digital download to 12" vinyl. Only 50 copies of the Sunspots album will be manufactured and Sundin will mount and illustrate each album sleeve individually.

Andreas Bertilsson's work with his next album, Själens Ö, has been carried out during the spring and continues until mid-summer when it's supposed to proceed with the album mastering. Bertilsson has involved over 14 musicians for the album and he will arrange, play and produce all tracks. Among the musicians involved are Joel Wästberg, Samuel Hällkvist, Sofia Dahlgren, Mattias Rodrick, John Essing, Johanna Ericsson, Åsa Ahlander, Oscar Hallberg among others. The album will be mastered by Linus Sjölund who also worked with Bertilsson on previous Komplott albums.

News: Sound of the sun

We are excited to present a new project and a first collaboration with Mats Björk, who has previously released music under the name Kompjotr Eplektrika.

"Solens sång / Sound of the sun" will be released in the new Komplott maginot series, with catalog number maginot10. This edition will be released in 24 copies. We choose to initially not reveal more details about this project but will post more information, images and hopefully video material during the summer. Preliminary release date for "Solens sång / Sound of the sun" is the late summer of 2009.

The fist issue of Ronnie Sundin's Very Friendly will be released on the 13th of April. This premiere issue will included stories on Sundin's Trondheim visit in 1998, Edgard Vareses premiere of Deserts in Paris 1954 and Throbbing Gristle's live set at the Cryptic Club in 1978. The release also includes a 7" vinyl single with two new Lasse Marhaug's tracks and a poster!

The 7 " vinyl has now been sent to press, The first issue will include two music pieces by Lasse Marhaug, Trondheim Tapes Revisited - Part 1 & 2. Ronnie is completing the final sections and it looks like the first issue of Very Friendly will be ready for April.

Very Friendly is a new project by Swedish sound/visual artist Ronnie Sundin that has taken the shape of a comic book! The chapters in Very Friendly will include autobiographical moments from Sundin himself, major and minor historical events from the world of so called electronic and experimental music. Some of these might stick to settled historical facts other might sample and toggle a bit with the truth. On top of that some bizarre puzzles and other incidents from Mr Sundin. Each issue will also be accompanied with a 7" vinyl single that will present the music of some of the musicians and noise makers that are portrayed in the comics and the first one in line will be the 'legendary' noise maniac from Norway; Lasse Marhaug serving up some finely sliced audio memories from his days in Trondheim during the late '90s.

Ongoing project: Very Friendly #2

The next issue of Very Friendly is scheduled for late 2009 and will amongst other things feature a story on Sundin's encounters with composers Francisco López and Daniel Menche in Spain in 2006 as well as a closer look at the obscure '80s German cult film Decoder which starred underground heroes such as Genesis P. Orridge, William S. Burroughs and F.M. Einheit. The 7" for this issue will present Francisco López exploring the limits of the vinyl format.

Very Friendly is a comic book project that subjectively collects its material from the world of experimental electronic music and will mix stories of an autobiographical nature with historical accounts. In other words; the reader will get a chance to meet some of Sundin's musician friends and colleagues as well as take part of some historical events where a classic recording or performance took place.

The first issue of Very Friendly, released in April 2009, presents over 52 pages three main stories; Sundin’s first meeting with the legendary Norwegian noise musician Lasse Marhaug in Trondheim back in 1998, the outrageous world premiere of Desérts by Edgard Varése in Paris in 1954 and a very strange gig by Throbbing Gristle at the Cryptic One Club in London in 1978. This package also includes a vinyl 7” single in a stamped paper bag with a soundtrack to the Trondheim story provided by Lasse Marhaug himself as well as a 9" x 9" mini poster featuring Edgard Varése and Pierre Schaeffer in a scene from the Paris 1954 adventure and the whole enchilada comes delievered in a nice plastic bag sealed with a special Komplott logo sticker.The first edition of this issue is limited to 300 copies.

Ekkehard Ehlers är en av fixstjärnorna på den experimentella elektroniska musikscenen och hans nya projekt tar ett
radikalt grepp på den ursprungliga deltabluesen. resultatet är en helt ny tolkning och som får ytterligare en dimension framförd
utomhus, i sensommargräset i scaniaparken.

Minit är ett av de nya namnen som utvecklar den elekroniska musiken. Deras suggestiva elektroniska klanger placerade i platsen blir en
kontemplativ sammansmältning. Också Minit kommer ifrån Berlin och skivbolaget Staubgold som fortfarande lyckas hålla sig i fronten för
ny musik.

Fyra unga ljudkonstnärer, tre från sverige och en amerikan, har fått i
uppdrag att skriva ljudkonst som går i dialog med scaniaparkens
egna valörer och som kan förändra upplevelsen av platsen. Projektet
vill använda parkens egenskap som offentligt rum för en radikal möjlighet
till konstupplevelser. Projektet undersöker möjligheterna med
ljudkonst i relation till landskapet vill utveckla den potential som
scaniaparken har med sina inbyggda högtalare.

Starfield Simulation Allstars – 2-årsjubileum i samband med Rooseums Sleep-With Me projekt
Rooseum är öppet hela natten under ett konstprojekt med filmvisningar bland annat av
Warhols "sleep" (den aslånga filmen av en sovande man) och där stora hallen
kommer att vara full av madrasser för dem som vill övernatta till filmen.

Det är alltså två år sedan den första konserten på Rooseum. Målsättningen då, att

News: NEW ALBUM | HENNING LUNDKVIST - THE END OF A SYSTEM OF THINGS

The end of a system of things, Henning Lundkvist's debut album for Komplott, has now been released. Lundkvist, who has previously presented his work in Komplott's digital catalogue (2002), has in recent years been working with other means of expression. The current album is based on a number of conceptually and visually thematic performances in galleries throughout Sweden and Europe. In addition to the album release, Lundkvist is also the composer and sound engineer of a much noted play, which is presently being performed at Teatr Weimar in Malmö, Sweden.

The album consists of a 32 minute piece. The core in Lundkvist's work is a sound play of sampled material, voices and sounds, as well as text and images from the media of film and literature, which is based around a post-apocalyptic theme. It is a sound experience that uses the power of the visual media as well as silences, sound gaps and voids to create new meaning. The album marks the entry into a suggestive and filmic narration where sounds, images and text have been separated and put together again. The image and text collages of the booklet further underscores the dissolving of the previous order of things, marking the end of civilization, The End. Fin.

The CD will be released in a very limited edition and on sale for only 100 SEK (10.66 EUR, freight included) until the 7th of December.

In "Borgare och proletärer" ("Bourgeois and Proletarians"), the voices of Agnes, Bruce, Vicki and others are reading the first chapter from Marx's and Engels' "The Manifesto of the Communist Party". The readers are commenting on the subject matter by letting the source material, the swedish translation of the seminal text, clash with their synthetically produced american accents.

News: PHONURGIA NOVA Radio Arts prize to Hartman

The PHONURGIA NOVA Radio Arts prize has been awarded to Hanna Hartman for Longitude 01326'E. This piece was originally comissioned by the Swedish National Radio in 2004 and released on CD by Komplott in 2005. The Phonurgia Nova competition has, since 1986, occupied a special place by virtue of its recognition of artists whose work exploits sound as a medium for expressing the real and the imaginary.

Komplott started in 1999, we've been releasing music for over ten years now. We're not going to celebrate this by releasing a re-mastered compilation box, but we're planning on doing something to throw some light on our past releases. Path Dependence is the name of this parallel time line and we're planning to launch this thing before the start of June 2009.

Press release: Very friendly, first release when Komplott launches it’s new line of defence

Komplott launches a whole new series of releases based on the Maginot Line. The Maginot Line was a line of fortifications, obstacles and casemates, used to defend the French borders, but which failed miserably.

Maginot will take an alternative route to the traditional releases on the Komplott label, dedicated to presenting music in a manner that separates itself from the established forms of music releases. The project will allow space for failure and is envisioned as a kind of backwards and slow, yet circumstantial and comprehensive ’grand uncle’ of the digital sound avalanche. Maginot may prove to be impulsive, askew and at times even foolish.

The first release in the Maginot Series is Very Friendly, which is a comic book project created by the Swedish sound artist Ronnie Sundin. Very Friendly is a project that subjectively collects its material from the world of experimental electronic music and will mix stories of an autobiographical nature with historical accounts. The first issue of Very Friendly will be released in the spring of 2009 and will present stories on Sundin’s first meeting with the ’legendary’ Norwegian noise musician Lasse Marhaug in Trondheim in 1998, The world premiere of Desérts by Edgard Varése in Paris in 1954 and a very strange gig by Throbbing Gristle at the Cryptic One Club in London, 1978. This issue will also be accompanied by a soundtrack to the Trondheim story provided by Lasse Marhaug himself, pressed on 7” vinyl.

Other planned releases in the Maginot Series include a yet untitled collective project where a number of acts under the Komplott umbrella will be participating. New compositions by Hans Appelqvist and Hanna Hartman are also under way.

Komplott will also continue releasing music in the more traditional album format. Andreas Bertilsson is working on the sequel to the album Det fysiska och det psykiska. The new album will be entitled Själens Ö. Also, composer Erik-Mikael Karlsson, who generally works on Swedish public radio, will be releasing his first album at Komplott.

Press release: Very friendly, först ut när Komplott lanserar ny försvarlinje

Komplott lanserar en ny serie releaser utifrån försvarslinjen Maginot. En linje av hinder, fästningar och nästen som kom att misslyckas kapitalt.

Maginot är tänkt att fungera som ett sidospår till Komplotts traditionella utgivning och har som avsikt att presentera musik på ett sätt som skiljer sig från etablerade utgivningsformer. Här skall finnas utrymme för misslyckanden och tänkt att fungera som den digitala ljudlavinens efterblivna, långsamma, men detalj- och omfångsrika gammelfarbror. Maginot kan tänkas komma att bli skevt, impulsivt och ibland kanske rent av dumt.

Först ut i Maginotserien blir Very Friendly, som är ett serieprojekt av ljudkonstnären Ronnie Sundin. Very Friendly är ett projekt som hämtar sitt material ur den elektroniska experimentella musikens värld med ett subjektivt perspektiv. Varje nummer kommer att innehålla historier baserade på självupplevda händelser samt även historiska skildringar. Första numret av Very Friendly anländer under våren 2009 och innehåller skildringar av Sundins första möte med den ”legendariske” norske noisemusikern Lasse Marhaug i Trondheim 1998, uruppförandet av Edgard Varéses Desérts i Paris 1954 samt ett märlkligt gig av Throbbing Gristle på The Cryptic One Club i London 1978. Detta nummer ackompanjeras också av ett specialskrivet soundtrack till Trondheimberättelsen levererat av Lasse Marhaug själv i form av en sjutumsvinyl.

Till övriga, hittills planerade, releaser i Maginotserien finns ett ännu obetitlat samlingsprojekt där flera av de artister som gett ut musik på Komplott medverkar. Nya verk av Hans Appelqvist och Hanna Hartman är också under uppstart.

Komplott fortsätter även sin utgivning av traditionella album. Andreas Bertilsson arbetar med uppföljaren till Det fysiska och det psykiska, albumet Själens Ö. och tonsättaren Erik-Mikael Karlsson kommer att ge ut sitt första album på Komplott.

As a 'teaser' of things to come we present Very Friendly #0!

This is a 20 page comic book that features an autobiographical story by Swedish sound/visual artist Ronnie Sundin based on his memories of a trip to Los Angeles that he made back in 1999 where he met up with some representatives from the local sound art / noise scene and had a few embarrassing moments. And maybe one beer too many...

Now, what's this all about then - a comic book? Well, Komplott hereby launches a new series of releases that will experiment with various formats and shapes. First out in this series is Very Friendly - a new project by Swedish sound/visual artist Ronnie Sundin that has taken the shape of a comic book! But not only that – it will be a record release as well. Sort of…       This project will continue along the path that was mapped out in his art book The History Of Electronic Music that was released in 2007 in collaboration with noCube/Häpna. With Very Friendly he will make his debut in the comic book format and here he will expand upon the stories and characters that was portrayed in above mentioned book but this time around some of the material will be of an autobiographical nature as well, recollecting some of his own experiences in the world of so called experimental music. It will be a wild ride for sure! Sort of...

But that's not all! Each issue of this comic book will also be accompanied with a 7" vinyl single that will present the music of some of the musicians and noise makers that are portrayed in the comics and the first one in line will be the 'legendary' noise maniac from Norway; Lasse Marhaug serving up some finely sliced audio memories from his days in Trondheim during the late '90s.

The first 'proper' issue will probably not be available until early 2009 but in the meantime - check out the teaser issue!

Ongoing project: Very Friendly #0

There is a new comic in town... called Very Friendly and it is a creation of yours truly, Ronnie Sundin. The idea for this comic came about in late 2002 (when i was sketching out ideas for a planned large scale art project called The History Of Electronic Music which was centered around the idea of making portraits of friends, colleagues and historical figures who were electronic music makers) - and it happened in the shape of a quick sketch on the idea of a comic on the life and works of Pierre Schaeffer.

Shortly afterwords the project ended up in hibernation but in 2004 i made an exhibiton at Cirkulationscentralen in Malmö (Sweden) featuring 50 ink drawings that later on were collected with additional material in the book The History Of Electronic Music (that was published by art book publishing house noCube in collaboration with record label Häpna in 2007. ) which also turned out to be a bit more realistic realisation of the large scale project inlcuding life size sculptures, paintings and projections that i had in mind at first...

Early in 2008, however, i had a meeting with Maximilian Moulettes who is the head of the record label Komplott here in Malmö and he approached me with an offer to produce a comic magazine for his label which puzzled me at first but after a while i realised that this was an opportunity to bring the old Pierre comic idea into life. Shortly after that it also dawned upon me that i wanted to expand the story on all the characteres that were in the above mentioned book in the shape of a comic and there you have the basic plan for Very Friendly! Back in 2002 i had also made some sketches for a autobiographical comic on my first visit to Trondheim to meet the , ahem... legendary Lasse Marhaug which in it's finished form will be included in the first issue.

In 2003 i made an autobiographical chapter on a trip to Los Angeles and the people i met there in 1999. Due to the fact that part of the text is in Swedish and features some language miscomprehensions that is kinda hard to translate we decided to publish this chapter on it's own as as sort of a teaser of things to come.

Ongoing project: Själens Ö

Andreas Bertilsson's work with his next album, Själens Ö, has been carried out during the spring and continues until mid-summer when it's supposed to proceed with the album mastering. Bertilsson has involved over 14 musicians for the album and he will arrange, play and produce all tracks. Among the musicians involved are Joel Wästberg, Samuel Hällkvist, Sofia Dahlgren, Mattias Rodrick, John Essing, Johanna Ericsson, Åsa Ahlander, Oscar Hallberg among others. The album will be mastered by Linus Sjölund who also worked with Bertilsson on previous Komplott albums.

Andreas Bertilsson is working on his next album, "Själens ö". The album tracks are settled and the material is currently being recorded in the studio.

The album was supposed to be released in March 2009, but the process of recording and mastering continues during the spring and the album will probably be released later in 2009.

Andreas Bertilssons alltid vackra musik, den här gången gjord i samarbete med Thomas Öberg från Bob Hund, är här mer mänsklig och kontaktsökande, mer fantasibefriande och tankemasserande än någonsin, mer än tidigare i kontakt med både det förflutna och det nutida. Den erbjuder en av de där allt mer hägrande platserna; rummet där det finns plats för ens tankar och ens ifrågasättande av samma tankar. De där rummen där man kan ställa frågorna som i bästa fall leder oss framåt, inte bakåt, är ju numera så sällsynta.

Men musiken på Andreas album ger oss en liten katedral omsorgsfullt byggd i en dator av plast och könlöst teknik-hokus pokus, fylld av ljus och luft och en rumskänsla man nästan kan ta på. Svensk jazztradition möter den skiraste av skira knister/knaster-elektronik, poesin kastar sig i famnen på rocken. Det är en alldeles självklar, men nästan överrumplande skönhet som bjuds. Det är som när man talar med en person i telefon och man hör att personen är friskt solbränd, snyggt nyklippt eller inbjudande naken – man stiger in i Andreas musik och man hör i ett enda magiskt slag att framtiden är mättad av stora löften och väldigt sköna drömmar om det okända.

Den 31 Mars släpper Komplott Andreas Bertilssons nya album "Det fysiska och det psykiska". Albumet är ett samarbete mellan Bertilsson och Thomas Öberg från bob hund och tillsammans har de skapat mänskligt, kontaktsökande, fantasibefriande och tankemasserande mästerverk.

Singelspåret "Sett allt, inget förstått" finns nu ute som digitalsingel, bl.a på iTunes. Videon till singeln har filmats av den malmöbaserade konstnären David Krantz som också samarbetet med Bertilssons experimentella scenprojecering. Premiärkonserten i Malmö, den 23:e februari, blev en lyckad tillställning där publiken för första gången fick ta del av musiken live. Den 15e mars spelar Bertilsson och Öberg i Ystad i samband med Ystad Konsmuseums vernissage av utställningen "På plats mitt i det upplevda"

PRESSRELEASE HENNING LUNDKVISTS DEBUT ALBUM ON KOMPLOTT RELEASED - THE END OF A SYSTEM OF THINGS

A suggestive and epic hörspiel/sound piece about the representations of the apocalypse.

Henning Lundkvist, who has previously presented his work in Komplott’s digital catalogue (2002), has in recent years been working with other means of expression. The current album was developed through a number of conceptually and visually thematic performances in galleries and other venues throughout Sweden and Europe. In addition to the album release, Lundkvist is also the composer and sound engineer of a much noted play, which is presently being performed at Teatr Weimar in Malmö, Sweden.

The album consists of a 32 minute piece. The core in Lundkvist's work is a Hörspiel/sound piece of sampled material – voices and sounds, as well as text and images from film and literature, all based on a post-apocalyptic theme. It is a sound experience that uses the power of the visual media as well as silences, sound gaps and voids to create new meaning. The album marks the entry into a suggestive and filmic narration where sounds, images and texts have been separated and put together again. The image and text collages of the booklet further underscores the dissolving of the previous order of things, marking the end of civilization as we know it – The End. Fin.

Some major themes are highlighted in Lundkvist’s work: before us is the relation between the will to preserve what was build up during centuries, and the urge to get rid of the burden of history and start anew; the conservative attempt to try to keep a morale and a lifestyle of a dead society alive, as well as the nihilistic desire to destroy. Inherent in one moment, the moment of the bomb, of the flood, of the global disaster, is the theological core of the entire society in which the representation of this moment was produced - a glimpse of truth in the mushroom cloud, a glimpse of something so powerful it blinds the spectator. And when the smoke has settled, it reveals a post-apocalyptic spatial duplica of what preceded it, albeit emptied of its people.

Henning Lundkvist (b.1981) is an artist based in Berlin and Malmö. He is primarily working with sound, often in relation with text and moving images. He has presented his work in spaces such as Ausland (Berlin, Germany), LAB (Copenhagen, Denmark), MNAC (National Museum of Contemprary Art, Bucharest, Romania), Galleri Signal (Malmö), plug.in (Basel, Switzerland), Model arts & Niland Gallery (Sligo, Ireland), Rooseum Centre for Contemporary Art (Malmö, Sweden) and Parismoskau (Leipzig, Germany). His hörspiel/audio-play "mout ootw" was published by Radiowy in November, and his collaborations with theatre director and playwrighter Christina Ouzounidis have been critically acclaimed in several of the Swedish major newspapers.

Komplott is an independent record label established in 1999. during 2007 komplott has released music by Hanna Hartman and Andreas Bertilsson (Son of Clay) with a 7" single forthcoming. In recent years Komplott has released several highly regarded albums by Son of Clay and by Hans Appelquist, Bremort, with international regcognition.

Untitled Flyby was written for an outdoor soundinstallation in 2004 (curated by Laika for the Scania park in Malmö) that seeks to accentuate the sense of place. Passage November is a sketch of principles regarding material and sequences of spatiality.

Having developed her very own language, the Swedish sound artist Hanna Hartman creates compositions that
are exclusively made up from authentic sounds which she has recorded around the world. Sounds are taken out
of their original context and thus perceived in their purity. Hanna Hartman seeks to reveal hidden
correspondences between the most diverse auditive impressions, and in new constellations she creates
extraordinary worlds of sound.

In the early morning of September 16th 2006 I rapidly left the country house where I was staying to finish the production of Paramount. It was the culmination of several months work.
I began outlining the album in the fall of 2005 with the objective of describing society and the present while still trying to anchor it to something timeless and continuous that could be linked to any one period in time. Based on a linear schedule of events I then stipulated rules and guidelines for my musical process.
The following months were cursed with severe computer breakdowns which delayed the development of my musical tools. Meanwhile I started working with DAT and devoted the remainder of that spring to work my way through the massive checklist of sound components based on my schedule of events.
In May, I got stuck once again and to be able to continue I was forced to erase large parts of my project that was decelerating the work flow. I abandoned my notes and started working more freely and rapidly along a rough initial topographic sketch, and at the end of the summer the music was almost complete – one comprehensive 30 minute piece.
Early that fall I went out to the countryside to put the final touches to the album. As it turned out, the house where I was staying was haunted, and the spiritual activity increased as the work progressed. Footsteps, doors that suddenly opened, traces of EVP in my recordings and an overall intensed atmosphear affected my appearance in the house. After two weeks I couldn't take it anymore and felt I was about to lose my mind. I packed my equipment and fled. The album was finally finished in Malmoe shortly thereafter, as far as I know without any interference from the spiritual world.

Catalogue: kommer lastat

The experimental music group Ett Skepp has recently finalized several years of sonic research resulting in their first soundscape. Ett Skepp consists of Jonas Bulow and Mathias Josefson, both holding MSc degrees in Computer Science at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, Sweden. Together they have explored generative algorithms in the field of sound creation and manipulation. After three years of extensive work at different locations in Stockholm, the initial release called Kommer lastat, has now been completed. The project started in early 2003 at the Institute for Electroacustic Music in Sweden (EMS), Stockholm, and continued at the Royal Institute of Technology with live performances at Fylkingen, Stockholm, and at the open air theater in Rålambshovsparken, Stockholm. Phase patterns and methods of evolution were the main instruments to generate sound structures. Driving forces were to explore the impact of generative methods and pattern interactions in a predefined parameter space. The implementation framework was continuously updated given the feedback from the evolving system. Sound structures were rendered into concrete sound materials using transformations in the analogue and digital domains. The material was classified and grouped into separate sets, categorized according to similarities found in the animal kingdom. The final assembly was based on self-contained ecology systems where animals interacted according to given set of rules. Ett skepp December 2006

The second release of 2005 on the Komplott label is two pieces by Swedish sound artist Hanna Hartman. Until now the two compositions of the album, "Longitude 013° 26’ E" and "Cratere", which were originally commissioned pieces for the Swedish Broadcasting Corporation and Deutschland Radio Berlin, have only been available to the public as radio broadcasts. The music is not dependent on the medium of radio however, but consists of concrete sounds composed as independent pieces. The material of the piece Cratere partly consists of recordings of the Italian volcano Etna, whereas much of the material on Longitude 013° 26’ E - a longitude which runs through Berlin, Kap Arkona and the Baltic Sea - was recorded on sailing boats. The album cover is to be interpreted as a commentary between map and terrain, an abstraction which points to the difference between the origin of the sounds and its musical form. The terrain can be conceived through the map, the map through the knowledge and experiences which arise from the relation between the two. Hanna Hartman has received several awards for her music such as the recent Svenska Författarförbundet Radiopris (Swedish Writer Associations Radio Award) 2004 and the Karl-Sczuka Prize 2005.

All spec Kit / Andreas Kurtsson is a sound artist and musician, and has been active within the experimental electronica scene since the mid 90's. He has an extensive catalogue of concerts and sound installations in Sweden in particular, as one of the main artist behind the Starfield Simulation events and Laika projects in Malmö. He creates a stubborn sound scape from a sprawling material, taken from diverse sources such as found objects, damaged instruments, everyday environments and electronically treated sounds. Through these inputs Kurtsson lets an awkward groove emerge.

This is his own words on his music:
"I depict the music as a number of individual sounds that play together, but remain deaf to each other. This creates a groove that is seasick and harsh, but still poppy. The music ranges from soothing calm to manic cacophony. The sounds come from both electronic and acoustic sources, and if the listener is unsure about their origin that is only positive. I hover between just organising different sound sources and more actively shaping them. When the sounds are edited and modulated I keep things simple in an effort to turn focus to the sound itself, more than to achieve some kind of highly skilled handicraft. Where minimalism turns stupid I've found a space where I can work with repetitions, translations, randomness, interferences, overloads, stories and the infantile. The trick is to be uncomfortable in different conventions but still trying to remain curious towards them. All Spec Kit is pop music."

The first track on the album is more closely linked to the debut album with its intense atmosphere, while the following tracks are more freeform and present a more elaborate use of wood- and metal sounds and processed instruments like the guitar and the clarinet. Lingering and tentative tones mixed with swift attacks of sound unite, form a structure and then deconstruct to start all over again. The seemingly simple grows into complex musical compositions full of detail, of precise and restrained intensity where silence form a balance between disturbances and tranquillity, the surreal and the ordinary.

The music of "The Bird You Never Were" is, despite its abstractedness, bare, personal and direct. The sounds create a state which forms a direct link to body and memory. Bertilsson creates a personal renewal of his musical experiences from composers such as Morton Feldman, Lars-Gunnar Bodin, Mamoru Fujieda, Akemi Ishijima, Jimmy Giuffre and Talk Talk. A poetic soundscape takes shape where the sounds could be seen as separate objects, focused timbres where every movement is executed with deliberate and simple elegance.

On his new album Bremort, Hans Appelqvist seeks an alternative technique of musical story telling, a search which seems to be founded in a sort of restlessness or maybe a mise en cause of those simple and solidly established parameters which have been established in instrumental and conventional popular music. Appelqvist mainly derives his particular form of musical story telling from feature film, where the music is paralleling the story so as to amplify it or comment it. It is in this form, where sound and image converge, that Appelqvist is conducting his search for unexpected emotional expressions.

Bremort is the name of a fictitious city where the listener takes part in scenes in the lives of the people of this average Swedish town. The album has no comprehensive theme but is rather built up around several small episodes, which have nothing in common other than the fact that they all take place in this same fictitious city during a limited period of time. The depictions are accompanied by different musical themes in which the beige existence of some of the inhabitants of Bremort are portrayed and linked together in recurrent intermezzos. As such Bremort is in a way a place of refuge, a sanctuary for the commonplace.

Appelqvist's music infuses the debate on the musical qualities of music. The newness of his acoustic image, where the choice of sounds are not always evident or natural in there context, makes the listener react, certain musical nuances might generate strong emotions while others leaves the listener indifferent. The same is true for Appelqvist's scheme of using untrained, hand-picked voices, a device which by many might be construed as provocative. It raises the question of whether we are actually listening to music and/or taking part in a staging. The crude voices are intimately interlinked through the underlying narrative and bring a dimension of agitation on top of the melancholy and suggestive coulisse of sound.

I started to play on my three favourite stainless steel kitchen bowls. The small one, the flat one and the two-toned bowl/dish hybrid. Then I improvised the other instruments around them and to the memory of those sounds. The traditional instruments had to be retuned to match the unequal temperament of the bowls. Face takes Shape is the title of this exceptional soundexperiment from Swedish newcomer Son of Clay. All 11 tracks on his highly personal first album is composed solely of samples retrieved from his apartment, the stairwell, the balcony etc. All those simple sounds of everyday life - reshaped, deconstructed and reassembled, often distorted beyond recognition - make out the elements which have been put together to form complete entities of sound. Those noises of everyday life - the buzzing, the humming, squeak, creak, rasping and clinking - work together to create strange and mystical melodies and progressive rhythms.
Soundartist and "electroreformer" Andreas Bertilsson has a masterdegree in Fine Arts and his base in Berlin where he has been working with soundsculpturing and sound installations. He has previously appeared on the Starfield Simulation compilation and the Starfield Simulation Series on the Komplott label. Face takes Shape is something of a self-portrait. Through those banal sounds of everyday life we sense the contours of a person, the author himself.

With his debut album Son of Clay takes his position among the avantgarde of modern, experimental electronica. Bounding for the future with his distinctive, suggestive, melancholy sound though concurrently recognizing the historical journey of electronic music - from the classic, electroaccustic explorations of the post-war era, through the ambient and techno sounds of the past decades to present composers like Oval and Fennez. This one of the kind piece, with its ingenious use of sampletechnique is guaranteed to stimulate all senses and will continue ringing in your ears long after you´ve put the disc down.

Recorded in Barcelona, Winter 2003. After many a late night/early mornings spent wide eyed and bushy tailed in front of the laptop, it came to me. I had been listening to folk music to get me through my annual winter hibernation. Folks like Jackson C. Frank, Nico, Tim Buckley, Donovan, Simon and Garfunkel, Collin Blunstone, Al Stewart, John Fahey, Bert Jansch, Kris Kristofferson, who along with Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, jr. and Willie Nelson made the crossover from Country to Folk many times over. I realized it was my duty to pay tribute to the folk pioneers. I heard chords, riffs, melodies and broke them down into textures, and processed these sounds creating sad, melancholy and hopeful minimalistic, ambient compositions with a touch of the folk aesthetic. Let these songs keep you warm.

Since 1997, Greg Malcolm and Chad Mossholder have been performing their glitchy, dark, ambience around the region with such artists as Oval, Thomas Brinkmann, Mouse on Mars etc. Their debut CD, Reference, gained them wider attention. Both Greg and Chad collaborate on studio projects, and they have a kind of post-modern digital age working relationship.

Circulation is Twine first release since the much appreciated 12", "Immediate Action" output on Hefty records. The Twinesound is a structure meets noise vs. melody sound, voices, strings, clicks, distortion, metallic sounds, manipulated samples and other just plain sounds. It's an assembly between Steve Reich, Cage, Stockhausen and the forefront of today's electronic music.

This is an essential release not only because the way they they're able to produce complex sonic sensations, but also because they compose soulful and contemplative arrangements.

Whilst Andréas Tillander has been composing music for almost ten years this LP represents his debut release except for his current appearance on the Merc compilation >Squadron<. He started composing his music through his personal computer and all the tracks on >Vena< is arranged through computer software together with modern digital instruments. The result is an album of modern sounding electronica charged with alternative beats, noise and suggestive melodies all tied up with a broad spectre of influences, techno, ambient, hiphop, dub etc.

This album looks just to be the beginning of several releases for Andréas Tillander this year. Another album is scheduled for release on the German imprint Raster-Noton and a appearance on a forthcoming Fat Cat compilation is also planned. >Vena< is available on vinyl only limited to 1000 copies.

Figureras debut album is the first release on the new Swedish based alternative label Komplott. This debut album from Figurera, recorded on different locations in Sweden during 1997 and early 1999, is a broad collection of tracks ranging from noise and experimental beats to pure melodies inspired by modern classical music. Almost every track on the record has a different approach. Some tracks are based upon samples from everyday objects as in the track “MZw”. This track is completely arranged of samples from a standard PC printer. Other track's on the album differs quite much from these sample arrangements. These tracks are based on more advanced polyphonic clusters to very simple melodies and arrangements. This variation makes this debut album different, aiming at discovering new approaches to electronic music.The record is currently pressed on vinyl only limited to 500 copies.
