I just finished my undergrad degree in psychology and began grad degree in psychology. I took a break from blogging for about a year. I was running of and on here and there. I had developed a nasty habit of consuming too much alcohol to de-stress after work. Well, recently I felt a calling from God (he used my wife's voice) to find alternate methods of de-stressing. I began running about a mile a day 3-4 days a week. I feel good. My New Balance mid strike running shoes are amazing and the running app on my phone is very encouraging. Try it. Think far.

I have been away for a while. Had to attend some weddings and receptions and take two psychology courses in less than two months! Today, however, I went back to the gym. I did not step into the gym for about a month now. I biked, did pull ups, dips, and hit the sauna. What I discovered is that sauna really helps you shed some pounds off! I realize this is old news but I hated the sauna until recently. I used my apartment sauna and liked the feeling. But be careful while using it, I start to feel sleepy due to the heat. And take water with you. Do not sleep and if you don't feel good, GET OUT of the sauna.

The Benefits

Feeling good about yourself, looking good, melting stress away, and better health are all benefits of running. These are, by no means, the only benefits but part of the many good things running can help you with. It is the best way of losing body fat, by experience. It is the best way of losing inches of your waist, by experience. You can eat well but without exercise, emphasis on running, you won't get to you optimum health level. Go run for yourself.

Puma's

Amazingly enough I have not run since Saturday. I ran about a mile and half on Saturday. I plan to get back to running, hopefully later on today or tomorrow. Meanwhile, I have been trying to break in the new Puma's I bought last week. They are comfortable for walking and running. The top material seems to be waterproof and the cushioning seems to work very well. I wore these most of past weekend and they still feel like new shoe's. They also seem to be good at trail running, which I would like when I do go trail running.

Trail running used to be very fun and I loved it but, ever since I moved out of my parent's house, I discontinued trail running. You certainly need proper shoes with a lot traction in order to do trail running. These Puma's look like they have a lot of traction and the right amount of cushioning. The waterproof upper material does seem to be made for trail running. I would advice anyone out there looking to purchase a nice pair of running shoe's, give Puma's a chance and you will not be disappointed.

New Shoe's

I went running with my new Puma running shoes. Wow, they were amazing. I ran 2 miles without feeling much pain. These shoe's have proper cushion support in all the right area's. Stress from work, family, or any other source can be, well, quite stressful! It is better to deal with stress at it's source rather than letting it build up. While running may not be the answer to all of life's stress, it can certainly make dealing with them better. You can function at peak physical fitness levels when dealing with stress. You can manage to feel good about yourself, even in the midst of all the stress. So run and keep running for a better health and well being.

Procrastinated Workout

Procrastinate! Yes, I finally jumped on a stationary bike today. I finally worked out. I have been procrastinating all last week. I didn't want to head to the gym today but I did. I have not run in five days! I feel slow and lazy. The thought of running makes want to hide in my bed! But it is necessary for me to run. It is a good way to be physically fit. This is not helping, it is not motivating me to run. Have you ever gone through this? The best way solution to this problem is to get out and run. Put all your thoughts aside and just run. You will be better able to think after running.

Warm Up

Stretching before running makes sure that you will run again. I heard this quite a bit while growing up. My dad used to live by this motto. He would always stretch before his jogs. I learned to do warm ups in high school. I continue to warm up before running. It does help me feel better and return to running. I have tried running without warming up and my legs were hurting for almost one week. I returned to running one week later instead of one day. Warming up does make a difference, a BIG difference!

Inspiration

I usually run before I weight training. It is a habit from high school. During weight training, I concentrate on upper and lower body muscles. Then the core muscles. I have also found biking to be helpful. Jumping on a bike after weight training seems to keep me agile. My muscles do not feel tight but more flexible and relaxed. Dry skin, for me, seems to reduce performance. Keeping skin properly lubricated seems to increase performance. Simply putting on lotion after shower appears to be a good remedy for fighting dry skin. Skin is the first line of defense against many attacks on the body so keep your skin healthy. Sweat also lubricates skin but I find it very uncomfortable to live with dry skin. Overtime dry skin can look ugly so please lubricate your skin.

Fun Run

I recently read a magazine article which stated that workouts are more beneficial when you do it for the fun of it. Super Lite!!!

Humidity

I find it difficult to run in humid weather. Here, in California, we do not encounter humidity very much so it makes it even more difficult when I do encounter it in other places. I guess it's simply because I'm not used to it. One of my friends told me of playing sports in humid weather and just how difficult it was. It's quiet uncomfortable. Adding shoe's and socks to that weather makes it even more unbearable. While on a mission trip to Belize, I played basketball in humid weather and did not do so well. I was sweating more than usual and was very uncomfortable. The humid air felt like a heavy weighted burden on me! Drinking cold water helped and that is what I kept doing. During basketball, I took breaks to cool down and I think that was smarter than to continue playing.

Running in Water

I have heard that running in water is good. Supposedly, it is better than running on pavement or treadmill! I have tried it and, yeah, it did feel good. My muscles seemed to move effortlessly and the water helped in keeping the body cool. Not all of us can run in water but I will certainly advice you to try it. I wasn't wearing any shoes but I think water shoes should be worn. I remember that my feet felt dry and were hurting a little. Maybe this was due to the chlorine in the pool! I have to try running on the beach barefoot. I heard that's good also, as long the beach is clean and safe.

The Necessary Rest

Daily running is good for health. It may also energize the body to perform at its optimum level. But resting is also good for health and will also help your body perform at its optimum level. I find that resting for one day in between runs helps me recover and feel better. I also seem to run better, longer, and faster after a period of rest. Try resting for a day and notice the difference.

Running for Stress

Regulating stress in our lives is a huge task. Some people are good at it whereas others need help. Running seems to relax me better that any other stress relief remedy out there. I have tried to drink tea's and alcohol to relax but it could not compare to running. I get my Nike's on and run. My dad had always told me that running relax's you. My friend used to call this feeling "runners high". Truly, that is what it is. It helps in feeling good about yourself. It does melt stress away. Lets run!

Run Because You Can

Do you feel fortunate to have legs to run on? I thank God for my health all time. I have seen, and I'm certain so have you, individuals on wheelchairs trying to play sports. They try no matter the odds! So I run because I can. I run because it is healthy. I run because it helps me look better. These all great reasons to run. Its not easy to go rugged! I've witnessed runners having harsh falls on trails. We often forget that we aren't on paved road. Trail running shoes are a necessity. I have tried Nike's and Adidas. I liked them both. But it's how you land your foot that does the trick. Please be watchful and keep your eyes on the trail. Know of obstacles before your encounter them. My best rule was to take a hike on the trail before you begin running on it.
