The Italian is likely to move on from Anfield this summer, after slipping down the pecking, he joined AC Milan on loan until the end of the season.

Fiorentina were linked with Aquilani last summer but agent Franco Zavaglia claims that the move was scuppered due to the former director of sport Pantaleo Corvino.

Now, with Daniele Prade replacing Corvino as the Sporting Director and former Liverpool Chief Scout being appointed as Technical Director, Aquilani would appear open to the prospect of a move to Fiorentina.

“The new directors Eduardo Macia and Prade respect him a great deal and we’re waiting to talk to Liverpool,” Zavaglia told Radio Blu.

“We’ll see what happens. He said no to Fiorentina last year because of Pantaleo Corvino, but with Prade it would be another matter.”

The names who are on the shortlist are being kept a secret, but it is believed that the Italian is not among them.

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez, and former Chelsea manager Andre Villas-boas appear to be the front-runners for the vacant managerial position after key targets such as Frank de Boer, Didier Deschamps, Jurgen Klopp and Brendan Rodgers ruled themselves out of the running.

It is believed that Martinez is expected to meet the American owners for an ‘interview’ over the next 48 hours.

The 31-year-old feels that he still has what it takes to play at a club guaranteed to compete in the Champions League and would leave if that opportunity arose.

The Holland international has been widely linked with a move out of Anfield, and Kuyt said in comments quoted on Goal.com website: “It is my goal to play in the Champions League again. However, I have not made a decision on my future yet. There are a number of clubs that are interested in signing me.”

“I’m aware of Hamburg’s interest and I feel flattered. I’m focusing on the national team for now, though. A number of other Bundesliga sides want me as well, but other European clubs are also after me.

“I have not decided anything yet. My agent knows what I want, and he’s doing all the hard work.”

“The Bundesliga is quite interesting. A number of Dutchmen have plied their trade in Germany, and Bundesliga sides always perform well in Europe. Bayern are the best example. The Bundesliga can definitely compete with the other big leagues.”

“A lot of great Dutch players have been playing in the Bundesliga. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar was crowned top scorer, Arjen Robben plays there, Mark van Bommel has a history in Germany, and many more.

“We’ll see what the future has in store.”

Due to a clause in his contract, the Italian giants would have had to buy Aquilani if he started 25 games for the Milan-based club, but after missing the several games due to an ankle injury, his tally remained at 23.

AC Milan CEO Adriano Galliani has made it clear, as quoted on Goal.com, “We will not use our option to buy Aquilani before May 31. We will re-open talks with Liverpool in June, though.”

The Italian however hopes for a permanent transfer to his current employers after being ‘frozen’ out of choices at Anfield.

Following the departure of Kenny Dalglish, reports had suggested Laudrup was in Liverpool’s shortlist to take charge at Anfield.

However, the former Barcelona and Real Madrid star insisted their had been no contacts between him and Liverpool thus far.

Laudrup told Guillem Balague during the Ultimate Champions match, which sees a team of international football legends take on FC Bayern All-Stars & Friends at the Olympiastadion in Munich: “I havent been approached by LFC but it is 1 of the top clubs in the world. I would love to manage that huge club one day”

The 14-year-old from Londonderry has impressed during his time at the club’s development centre in Belfast, and Liverpool have now secured the defender’s long-term future.

Quigley’s scholarship is set to take effect on his 16th birthday, in 18 months time, and will join the Academy in the summer of 2013.

“We are just delighted. We are very proud of him and the hard work starts now,” his father, Liam, said.

“He has been travelling over and back for the last year and a half and now he is actually signed.”

“They asked him to move over this year. We have declined that option and he is going to go in the summer of 2013. He will move over and live there then”

“When the new season starts in August he will go over for two days a week for training and games with the Under-15s and Under-16s.”

There were widespread reports yesterday that Dalglish has left his position at Anfield after a ‘showdown’ meeting with owners Fenway Sports Group over the team’s dismal Premier League showing in Boston. However, the club refused to either confirm or deny speculation, according to ESPN.

A club statement read: “Fenway Sports Group (FSG) and Liverpool Football Club announced that Kenny Dalglish is to leave his post today as Manager after having his contract terminated.”

The Slovakian, whose current deal expires in 2014, has been linked with a move out of Liverpool after a disappointing few seasons of missing out on the Champions League.

Skrtel’s representative, Karol Csonto, told The Independent, “You cannot say Liverpool won’t play in the Champions League.”

“It is a big club and because they haven’t made it this year doesn’t mean they would not next. There are expectations on both sides, though.”

“Some changes have been made at the club and the player wants to know what the aims and ambitions are.”

“We want to discuss with Liverpool what they want and, of course, we will discuss the issue of Martin’s new contract.”
