In Memory of My Beloved Brother Edward "Bimbo" William Bennett September 3, 1953 - January 31, 2015

2015-02-01T22:02:00.001-05:00

As I sit here I am at a loss for words. For some moments in life there are no words. I've prayed to God for answers and healing but that isn't what is in his plans. A little over a year ago I found out a close friend was actually blood, my uncle. We had worked a lot together on the farms but we were both unaware we were kin and in fact he was my uncle. My mother and him shared the same father, and neither was aware until they were both grown adults. I helped them meet for the first time, since I obviously knew my mother and knew him well. Their bond became so strong and ours grew even stronger over the last year. It’s sad but the Uncles I grew up with and looked up to really have nothing to do with me much now other than one Love Ya Monty. But my new found family was closer than any of them and he called on a weekly basis and helped me like none other, hauling cattle, working cattle, moving cattle, and even feeding cattle when it was needed. Over the last month he began telling me his sinuses were acting up and that he had taken every drug under the sun to try and help but it wasn't. It gradually got worse and he couldn't sleep and had a terrible migraine all the time. But this didn't slow him down from feeding cows twice a day and coming to help me out. He did finally go to the doctor and was diagnosed with Pneumonia and began treatment, it helped but still didn't cure his problem. Two Sundays ago I got a call at about 6:30AM and it was him saying he was in the hospital that he couldn't take it anymore. He was admitted for a severe case of Pneumonia and was to undergo treatment to help him get better. He kept telling me I'll be back out there to feed in a few days, this shit ain't gonna kill me I'm to ornery. A week later and he was still there and the news came that a mass had been found on his lung. He was then transferred to Ruby Memorial where the prognosis was what I had feared CANCER. But reassurance that it wasn't bad. My Uncles condition deteriorated faster than I have ever seen and the last resort was to place him on life support and began treatment. We prayed to God and asked for his healing hands to help us and my Uncle overcome this obstacle. He had different plans and we were notified the cancer was a very aggressive type that had consumed his body, and treatment was not a viable option at this point. I try not to ask why because I know it is not for me to understand but to let my faith be to the higher powers above, but one cannot help but ask why him? Anyone that knows my uncle knows that he would give you the shirt right off his back ten times over if he knew it would help you. To sit and think ten days ago he shook my hand and said Thank You for simply helping him out, we were feeding cows ten days ago, living the dream we both envied. Our family losing a member we yet just met, but I believe it was Gods fate that put that path before us to make sure we all knew. As I sit here the family is gathering to say their final goodbyes as the choice has been handed to discontinue the machines. I made the choice to stay here on the farms and remember my uncle as a strong willed, funny caring man that loved me and the last handshake that consumed my grip and a bond that tied our love like a solid knot. I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love, happiness, and joy. Believe in Angels. They express themselves in many ways, a dream, a whisper, coincidence an overpowering feeling. Even on your darkest days there is an angel by your side to guide you along the way. We love you Bimbo. I ask you all to pray for my Mother Angela Dunbrack Wilfong and the rest of our family as we follow the path God has laid before us. A path none have chosen but a path we trust is the choice of God.
Dear Heavenly Father, with heavy hearts we come to you. Thank you for the comfort we find in your presence. Through the Holy Spirit we know your presence is with us. Send us your peace Lord; the peace that passes all understanding. Don’t let us waiver and doubt. Give us a faith that is everlasting. We release our lives into your hands. As we wait and watch, we know Lord that none of us will escape this journey through death. Teach us how to embrace it with faith. Give us strength to hold up those who are stepping closer to seeing you face to face. Take away the fear in the heart of our loved one who will soon see you; let them find peace in your grace, comfort in your love, and strength in Your mighty power over death. Comfort us as our grief seems to overpower us. In Jesus name AMEN! Written by: Ben Wilfong (nephew)

Family Doesn't Always Mean Blood Kin

2013-05-16T13:03:00.000-04:00

As I was out mowing the lawn this morning several things were on my mind. The one thing that I kept tossing around was our children. When I was a young girl growing up you were taught respect and not just for your parents but for everyone. You may not like what you were told to do or if you were corrected by your neighbors parents but you knew if you didn't listen that when you got home you wouldn't like what happened. Some of you may know and some may not but my biological father passed away when I was less than a year old. My mother remarried and I gained a step-dad. I am telling you this so you don't think I am talking about something I have no knowledge about. I see and hear endless rants about how worthless a mother or father is or how that is my half/step sibling. Yes I have had family to make comments about me and my children in reference to well they are not his blood relative. Well I was dealing with some pretty mean things being said once when a very wise friend said "Angie stop ... think of it this way ... your dad (step-dad) chose you." I had never thought of it that way til then. It truly takes someone with a heart of gold to chose to be a father/mother to an others child. But just because your parents are not together doesn't mean they don't love you just as much. Things happen and life goes on. I HATE to hear parents bad mouthing the other parent to their children ... come one people if you truly love your children why would you want to hurt them. My mother never ever said anything negative to me about my biological father and no he was not perfect but who is. Believe me children grow up and they are a lot smarter than we give them credit. Your bashing the other parent to your child will come back to hurt you in the long run. I hear parents comment ... I called to talk to my son/daughter and their mom/dad wouldn't let me. How do you know that the child didn't say I don't want to talk to mommy/daddy would you want to talk to someone that has bad mouthed your mommy/daddy? If you honestly and truly love your child STOP and think before you say something you could regret later. These children are our future we need to nurture and teach them to respect and love. Just because you have a step-parent doesn't mean you are loved less it simple means there are a lot more people that love you. There isn't just 2 sides to my family there is 3 sides and they are big sides ... LOL. I was blessed with a brother on one side and 2 sisters and a brother on the other side. Please people stop hurting and using your children to hurt someone else, get your way, or try and make yourself look better than the other. You will be the one that gets hurt in the long run. Be thankful you have a child that is loved by many.

THE FARMER

2013-02-22T13:39:00.000-05:00

THE FARMER
Without delay he's up each day
before the crack of dawn.
After breakfast, a kiss from his wife,
he yawns and pulls his work boots on.
Out the door he stands with pause
to smile at the gold-blue sky.
The rooster crows and the man steps off
with purpose in his stride.
There's livestock to feed and fences to mend,
till the soil and plant some seed.
His list of chores has no end
for there's a hungry world to feed.
This is what he's called to do
as steward of God's good Earth.
Like his father and the fathers before,
'twas passed to him by birth.
The sun has set and he's earned the right
to relax on his old back porch.
He shuts his eyes and breaths in the night
praying tomorrow he'll rise once more.
Amen.

I was the daughter of a farmer and I am the mother of a farmer who I am very proud of. I hope you will take time and check out his sights.

Memorial Day

2012-05-28T11:01:00.002-04:00

Memorial Day has come to represent many things, from the unofficial beginning of summer to a day for a trip to the mall in search of sales. But we, as a nation, never should forget the true meaning of Memorial Day and why we observe it as a holiday each year.
The three-day weekend is an occasion for cookouts, trips to visit friends and relatives, time at the beach and an extra day off from work. With gas prices dropping, hundreds of thousands of Americans are on the move.
That’s fitting in a way. We, as a nation, are enjoying the fruits of democracy and freedom, the uniquely American way of life.
But as we celebrate, we also need to reflect on the sacrifice required to preserve those values. We need to remember those who died to keep us free and to allow successive generations to live and prosper in a land of plenty.
The Memorial Day observance began humbly in 1868 as a day for the families of Civil War dead to take flowers to their graves. The holiday first was known as Decoration Day.
But after World War I, Memorial Day was expanded to honor not only those who died in the Civil War but also in every conflict that claimed the lives of Americans. In 1971, it was made an official national holiday to be held each year on the last Monday in May.
Sadly, Americans still are dying in a war on the other side of the world. While we now can see the beginning of the end of the decade-long war in Afghanistan, our troops are committed to remain for nearly two more years, to continue to remain in harm’s way in the name of national security.
We look forward to the day when we can celebrate a Memorial Day on which no American troops are involved in combat.
But Memorial Day, as its name implies, comprises a long roster of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their nation. Today, in particular, we honor those who died in World War II, whose comrades now are nearing the end of their lives.
We also honor the thousands of Americans who died in the Iraq War, now officially ended but still fresh in the nation’s memory. For so many, the grief of losing loved ones in these recent wars still is raw and ever-present.
So, as we enjoy this three-day weekend and the fun of being with family and friends, let us stop at least for a moment to remember the sacrifice of so many over the course of our history and the debt we owe them. Let us also reach out to those who are grieving over the loss of a loved one.
Let’s enjoy the holiday but not forget why we are privileged to do so.

WISHING YOU THE BEST IN 2012 !!

2011-12-31T18:22:00.000-05:00

New Year's Wishes

May you get a clean bill of health from your dentist, your cardiologist, your gastro-enterologist, your urologist, your proctologist, your podiatrist, your psychiatrist, your plumber and the I.R.S.

May your hair, your teeth, your face-lift, your abs and your stocks not fall; and may your blood pressure, your triglycerides, your cholesterol, your white blood count and your mortgage interest not rise.

May New Year's Eve find you seated around the table, together with your beloved family and cherished friends. May you find the food better, the environment quieter, the cost much cheaper, and the pleasure more fulfilling than anything else you might ordinarily do that night.

May what you see in the mirror delight you, and what others see in you delight them. May someone love you enough to forgive your faults, be blind to your blemishes, and tell the world about your virtues.

May the telemarketers wait to make their sales calls until you finish dinner, may the commercials on TV not be louder than the program you have been watching, and may your check book and your budget balance - and include generous amounts for charity.

May you remember to say "I love you" at least once a day to your spouse, your child, your parent, your siblings; but not to your secretary, your nurse, your masseuse, your hairdresser or your tennis instructor.

And may we live in a world at peace and with the awareness of God's love in every sunset, every flower's unfolding petals, every baby's smile, every lover's kiss, and every wonderful, astonishing, miraculous beat of our heart.

WISHING YOU THE BEST IN 2012 !!
