Boo-tiful Portraits Photo Shoot

Alright! Kraftymamaof 5 here to bring all my ghouls and goblins some news from beyond the normal, humdrum world of picture taking. If you are interested in having some spooktacular family portraits that will absolutely blow every other one that you have ever taken away, then check out my journey that transformed my family into the eternally creepy vampire clan. This is a fun experience to do with the whole family.
Candy Buck is the make-up artist extraordinare that is part of the Boo-tiful Portraits family. Her brother Aaron Buck is the photographer that runs the photo session portion of the process. And the third part of this explosive team is Barbara Goodwin who we did not have the pleasure of meeting yet. She is the photo effects specialist.

Plenty of refreshments

Kids loved all the snacks that were provided. (We definitely owe them a box of chips.)

When we first arrived at the Boo-tiful Portraits Studio we were greeted with open arms by Candy. She immediately put every one at ease by welcoming us into her home studio.

The video games were a hit with Jojo.

In the waiting room there are plenty of things for the kids to do to keep them occupied. Candy provided a wide assortment of video games, kid appropriate movies and props to play with. You can browse through some of her past creations to get an idea of what kind of make-up styles you would like applied.

All the kids were entertained.

Everyone gets a turn in the chair. Candy makes sure that everyone gets the full treatment. Her professional make-up techniques are spot-on. She provides all the necessary tools and products to bring out the boo-tiful inner ghoul in you.

All of the make-up she uses comes off easily with a few wipes of a cloth at the end of the photo shoot.

The time spent in the make-up chair all depends on the type of effect you would like applied.

When it comes time to take the photos, you will find that Candy's brother, Aaron, has been hard at work getting the whole scene ready.

Bloody martini anyone?

Plenty of props and scene setters to get the perfect shot.

A fireplace in the background comes complete with old charred bones and skulls to really give it that authentic crypt keeper look.

If you are lacking the proper costume or maybe in need of some fancy headgear, Candy has plenty to choose from. Check out the old Vitrola to hear your favorite tunes.

The waiting room has plenty of Hollywood flare to check out too. Any movie buff would feel right at home here at the Boo-tiful Studios.

After all of the formalities are taken care, it's time for the portrait studio.

The finished products came out amazing.

You can find the Boo-tiful Studios just a stone's throw away from Disneyland in the Anaheim, California area. Earth Day

Hi everyone, it's Earth Day. What can we do to make the Earth that we live in just a little bit better. Maybe plant a tree or conserve water by getting some drought tolerant flowers and plants. I know its hard to keep up our landscaping but we can still keep it beautiful with cactus and other succulents. This is important now more than ever. This water drought does not look like it is going away any time soon.
How about recycling or repurposing something old and bringing it back to life again. How about reusing some stuff that you might have otherwise thrown away and have lots of fun with the kiddos making crafts in the process. Who are we kidding, I never can throw anything away. I have a mountain load of those cardboard paper towel rolls in a bin and love to save my old spagetthi jars. I also love cardboard. Having a house full of kiddos, it makes sense for me to be able to help them bring out their imaginations. Having stuff that we can paint, glitter and craft with and save some money at the same time is awesome.
Today we will be repurposing some old pieces of wood that was taken from our old play fort and instead of throwing the old pieces away we will be turning them into some signs and plaques. So today is a beautiful cool sunny day, perfect for an outdoor project. The kids could also help. Painting can be a lot of fun for the little ones. As long as they are supervised. Otherwise, you may be looking at something being painted that shouldn't have, like the dog. :):)

Easter Craft DIY's and Ideas

Easter is almost here and that means a lot of crafting, decorating and fun spring time diys, goodie bags for the kids classes and spring time fun!
Here I will be posting some crafts, projects, diy's, kid craft time and all sort of decorating ideas.
So whether you want to spend a little or a lot, there are a lot of really cute Easter crafts you can do with the kids. Decorate your home for spring is always great to do together also.
First idea:
So if you are having a spring time or Easter party, here is a super cute up-cycle craft you can make for a party favor and table decorations. Just fill it up with your favorite candies or keepsake. Think baby shower, birthday party or maybe even a spring wedding. (You can change it up for any party, just choose your party theme color and voila, there you have it.)
Supplies used:
Tulle
hot glue
hot glue gun
filler like easter grass
embellishment of choice

2.It's spring time and if your lucky enough to have warm spring weather, here is a cute and fun gardening project. And if you don't have the warm weather, well that's alright because you can still do this super fun gardening activity with the kids right inside your cozy home.:)

3. Easter Bag Baskets

These are a lot of fun to make especially if you would like to make your kids easter basket a little extra special and you can even make them to match their outfits. You can choose any color you like. Here are our spring bag baskets and I can't wait to try these in Halloween colors.:)

4.Easter egg necklace /Kid craft time

Looking for a fun craft to do with the kids. Grab some pastel Easter eggs and some ribbon and you can make Easter egg necklaces. These are a lot of fun to make with the little ones and these necklaces are sure to dazzle up any Easter outfit or just to have fun with a photo shoot. And yes you can even fill them up! :)

Spook Show 3 Halloween Festival

So who's ready for Halloween in March? Apparently thousands of people from all over So Cal were. All the super cool people decided to come together and have a spooktacular festival of all things that make Halloween what it is, fun! Hosted by the oh so awesome Halloween Club of La Mirada, California. Check out their website for more locations. This years theme was Carnivalesque Freakshow. Congratulations to all the people who made this event possible. It was a super fun day filled with vendors, artists, entertainers, music, props, decorations and everything Halloween!

This was our first time attending this event but surely not the last. Our whole day was filled talking to all the artists and entertainers. We spoke with every vendor and either took pictures or video of their amazing products that were on display for sale. Everyone had a chance to speak a little bit about their wares and the video links are listed below. There were also quite a number of special effects demonstrations going on. Reel Guise, Rick and Zombie Shane lookalikes were over at the small Haunted House Demo area that was set-up. They were definitely one of the big hits of this party. Everyone had to have a selfie with the dead-ringers. Check them out at Facebook.com/reelguise.

There were quite a number of artists bringing new life back into old dolls. Gray Oddities had some of the best unique horror dolls and dark art. Gorys by Amanda were very cool. The re-animator over at Dreadful Little Things had some really amazing items as did Stuff! By Nic. Creepy make-over Barbies were the big hit with the collectors. Just about all of those sold. As a matter of fact, I noticed that a lot of the vendors stock were gone as the event progressed into the evening. I know that we were some of the lucky ones that were able to walkaway with plenty of insanely great deals and special one-of-a-kind items. Spitfire Interiors offered many items that would look great in any horror movie enthusiast's home. Fiendies offered up a great fire dust demonstration. Had to have it.
We found a sea horse in a bottle that we absolutely couldn't live without over at The Bearded Lady Vintage and Oddities tent. They actually have a store that is located in the Los Angeles area for those of you looking for vintage Halloween items. We were also able to score an insane clown and the creepy bobble head butler. A freaky realistic Leatherface bust also found their way home with us. I wanted so much more! :) We will definitely be stopping by the Halloween Club again soon. And if you didn't know, Halloween Club is open all year long. So for those of you that are looking for some cool Halloween stuff, get an early start and go check out this place. Absolutely worthwhile to visit and shop!

The artwork by Raul Contreras over at Alice's Bloody Adventures in Wonderland was some of the trippiest images that I laid my eyes on. An instant trip into psychedelia. Loved his works. Check him out at facebook.com/Tweedleguns. Other notable artists include the monster latex creations of Inferno Effects. His remote controlled masks are sure to be the next big thing in Halloween Horror masks. Innovations made by this talented young man are going to take this guy to the top. I cannot leave out the creations that were on display over at A Corpse Maker booth. Very realistic and professional props made with the very best materials that will last for more than just one season of scaring. The artwork of Sketch and Lupe Flores were also a stand-out. Mark over at Grave Visions offered some fantastic framed originals of gravesides from all over. I had my eye on one featuring Johnny Ramone's grave. I know that I'm not going to be able to list every incredibly talented artist that I had the priviledge of meeting, but I do have you on my video that you can find at www.jpkrafty5/youtube.com.

All of the people that we met at Spook Show were truly genuine and very approachable. There were no Debbie-Downers at this fiesta de los muertos. The emcee of the night, R.I.P. The Undertaker, aka Rick Galiher was quite the character. His Vincent Price like aura of cool spookiness was infectious. (www.facebook.com/rickgaliher) Dead McMaim was also roaming the area and scaring up interviews for his radio show that you can find on darkestjack.com. The act that caught my attention was Dangerous D, aka Darin Malfi. His enormous blue balls hanging from his ears was truly a sight to behold. Ouch, how'd he do that? Rhythm Coffin and Haunted Garage rocked the place with their punktacular music acts. Check them out on youtube.

Watching all of the people that were dressed to impress in their finest Carnivalesque attire was a treat. Lots of people dressed up and yes even me and my partner, J, had some fun dressing the part. My makeup was done by my assistant Hannah. She's learning special FX makeup techniques and was thrilled to see all of the booths that were offering classes on movie makeup effects. She loved watching the artist's dazzle up zombies and clowns. ProliFX Special Effects Studio was one of the premier places offering up make-overs and classes on make-up techniques. They offer life-casts, mold-making, props, scenery for themed events, film, and television. Check them out if you're interested in learning. Cinema Secrets specialized in latex prosthetics. Over at Abracadaver Productions tent were some of the best looking rigid foam creepy faux facades that I have ever seen. All were true works of art. These are all professional studio quality and will definitely set your haunted graveyard aside from the others. They will be at the 5th Annual Open House and Halloween/Haunt Market on July 18th. The LAScare tent was having a party for sure. They were there to get the word out about their event that's going to be happening in August. That's a whole other event that is sure to be a hit with all of us Spooksters. From what I hear, it's going to be one heck of a good time.
Every good Haunted House designer or Halloween event planner knows that a great fog machine is always needed to complete the mystical illusion. The guys and gals over at Fog It Up have got you covered in this area. They were able to educate me in the many different types of fog that can be produced using their special fog juice. They offer 25+ different fog scents & scented sprays also. They can be found at 10-31 store.com or on the phone at 1-844-fog it up. Ask for Joey.

Last but not least thanks to the folks at Arrowhead water for keeping all of us folks hydrated. With temperatures reaching the high 80's water was a must. Special thanks to Leg Avenue for the free gifts and also to the many vendors that let us sample their products.
Maybe next year there can be more shady areas for all of us vampires too. Creatures of the night don't do to well in the unforgiving sunlight.
I know next year this family friendly event will be even bigger and better!

Easter Bunny Treat Bags/Party Favors

Let's have some fun with the kiddo's and make some Super Cute Easter Bunny Treat bags. It's that time of the year again to start thinking about making those treat bags that your kids' school classes and friends love. Since I have five kids, I always have to make plenty. This year I will be making about 70. That's actually the least number of treats that I have had to make. My high schoolers have kind of out grown them. Secretly I think they still love'em. Lol...I mean, who doesn't like to get candy in a cute little bunny bag, right?:)
These bags are fun, cute, and best of all, pretty easy to make.

First, let's start off with materials. You will need some glue, paper bags, pipe cleaners for the whiskers, yarn for the nose and bunny tail, card stock and some ribbon. Have FUN ! :)

To help the younger kids, I am going to make a trace for the bunny ears, so that they will be able to follow the trace with their safety scissors. This can help with their fine motor skills.

Remember, kid's crafting is also learning .:)

Once you have cut out the bunny ears, glue them in place onto your paper bag bunny ears.

Next, glue some googly eyes in place.

Twist your two pipe cleaners up to make some whiskers and glue them on.

Cut a square piece of white construction paper and cut 2/3 of the way up to make the bunny teeth.

Glue them in place.

Fill bag up with your favorite goodies and then fold paper bag in place and staple or glue closed.

Last but not least, tie some ribbon around bunny ears to make some cute little bows for the girl bunnies or just leave the bows off for the boy bunnies.

I almost forgot about the bunny tail. Yarn tied together and trimmed makes an awesome little bunny tail.

Voila!

Little funny bunny comes alive.

Even if you don't need treat bags these would be adorable to decorate your home. Maybe even fill them with surprises for the little ones or just fill them with cotton. Make it a fun craft to do with the little ones.

Spook Show Halloween Festival 2015

Can we have Halloween in March?? Yes we can, at The 3rd annual Halloween Spook Show Festival. Hosted by the Halloween Club. I am super excited about this! Imagine how awesome this is for any Halloween enthusiast. To be able to have a little Halloween in March. Who knew. So for all of you Halloween fans, the Halloween club brings it to us. They will have booths with arts and crafts, jewelry, props, curios, decor, music, also plenty of contests and of course, spookiness!! I haven't been to one yet, but I am super excited and jazzed up about this. We are all sure to have a wicked good time! I will be sure to post plenty of video and pics.

Any ideas on what kind of prop I should get for our next Halloween Haunt? I can't wait to check out some of the cool bands that are scheduled to play this year. If any one wants to go, just request tickets from the host website. Tickets are free and it's for all ages.

Easter Candy Basket Party Favors

Let's start with an empty water bottle and tulle. :)

Alright, here we go....

Choose any color tulle you like. :):)

Cut your bottle in half

Cut tulle in even strips.

Hot glue tulle to the top of your cut water bottle.

Alternate colored tulle to get a beautiful color display.

Hot glue some bling over the tulle.

Add a flower to spice it up

Also , maybe some embellishments.

Let your creative juices flow and have fun with it.

Last step is to fill them up with your favorite candies.

Voila!!!

I used our favorite, jelly beans.

Perfect for your parties, party favors, gift favors, table displays and centerpieces.

Make these super cute table party favors perfect for family get togethers, table decorating, keepsakes and so much more. Easy to do and lots of fun to make. With just a few items like, tulle, water bottles, hot glue. I used bling and also a flower embellishment. ( This is also a great way to recycle). You can save some money by making these yourself and none of your guests will ever even know that they just helped the world by recycling. They will, however, think that you went to a party store and spent a bundle! Now all that is left is to fill them up with your favorite candies. :):)

Valentines Day is coming up real soon and for those of you that might be looking for a fun thing to do with the kiddos, or maybe even planning a Valentines day party, here is a fun idea. Try making your own photo booth or photo prop background. That's what we are doing this weekend. :) We're starting with some butcher paper that will turn a drab white wall into a unique photo background. You can use anything to make a fun prop. I will be cutting out hearts, bringing out glitter, markers, Valentine balloons, pillows, and really anything Valentine related. As far as colors to be used, maybe pinks, reds and whites will work.

You can make it fancy, vintage or sparkly kid FUN !! Today we will be going with the "Sparkly Kid Fun" theme, so anything goes! :):) (Especially once you give the kids markers and glue! LOL :):)) Don't forget to add some fun, festive music and now you're all ready to start making some super awesome special memories that will last a lifetime. Most importantly is to have fun by letting the kids use they're imagination.

And at the end of your memory making is the clean-up. When you are all done, all you have to do is peel off the butcher paper and voila'! In the trash...easy cleanup. :):)

Don't forget to grab your camera to record all those precious memories. The new instant Polaroid camera's are also really fun to use with the kids! :):) Have fun!!!

Christmas Treat Bags 2014

Here are the Treat Bags that I made for my kids class rooms. I made 30 bags per class room. I bought these cute Christmas farm boxes last year after Christmas. I actually got them in a grab bag for $2.00. I knew that they would come in handy. These are super perfect and cute and I almost forgot that I had them. Each box was filled with a juice, candy and a bag of chips. I wanted to make sure I filled them up for the kids. I love making goodie bags for my kids and their friends. The animal treat boxes went to a kindergarten class and my daughters treat bags were filled with juice, crackers, chips and candy.

For their teachers I made gift baskets and added a Starbucks gift card inside. We could all use some caffeine these days. Lol:)I thought that would be great. Starbucks has everything for a coffee drinker and non-coffee drinkers. I'm sure there's something there for everyone. :):)

Did I mention after making 80 treat bags I forgot to add their names. So I had to go back and add all their names. That was FUN ! Lol:):) Well, here's to next Christmas.

DIY Candy Cane Christmas Ball Ornaments

This is a super cute DIY and easy to make. Also a lot of fun and the kids were able to help in making these Christmas ornaments. All you need are some plastic or glass ball ornaments and candy canes. You can also add some festive ribbon or bow's if you choose to. Then just start breaking your candy canes so they are able to fit inside. Next start filling your ornaments with the broke pieces of candy cane. Remember that if you fill them to the top they might get a little heavy. You can always add a little bit of hot glue to the lid so it doesn't fall off. I love how this Christmas ornament looks. Add to your Christmas tree, hang them on your chandelier, or anywhere that you would like to add a cute candy themed flare to. :):)

Start off with your favorite peppermint candies.

Grab a jar or a vase :)

Unwrapped your candies.

Then grab your hot glue gun and start gluing your candies all around the jar.

You can also add a cute ribbon or bow to your vase.:):)

Try adding a battery operated tea light inside. Look's so cute !! :):)
