Slowly but surely we are changing up our living room. I am loving what we've got going on so far...adding pops of turquoise and some fun patterns. What do you think of our new rug? It's pretty thin so I'm not sure if I love it (and for the price I have to love it!) I'm going to give it a week to see if it's a keeper. I'm digging the stripes for sure though! Now I feel like our coffee table and end table need a facelift. Any suggestions? I'd love to hear any input.

hair update

Here was my hair first thing this morning. Not too bad considering I woke up and the headband wasn't on my head anymore (wild sleeper much?). I had a friend tell me that it would only work with wet hair...and I think she is probably right. So if I give this a go again I will try it with wet (or at least damp) hair. Pinterest hair

Trying out the no heat curls today! Just a stretchy headband and my hair wrapped around it... I'll let ya know how it turns out. Sure would save some time if it works!

**Update: I ended up redoing my hair and sleeping on it (like you are supposed to do) because I left this hair-do in for about two hours and the curl that it had fell out in a few minutes. It was way too loose, scroll to the next post for the after picture from sleeping on it over night.

Sprucing up an outfit

I was getting dressed this morning and went to put on a scarf. Lately I have a been a little obsessed with scarves and wear them almost daily. Our winter weather has been so awkward this year and it's not quite cold enough that you need a coat...so vests &sweaters &scarves it is! I've seen all these different ways to wear scarves on Pinterest (where else) and I decided to try the bow. I couldn't decide if it was cute or not, so I sent a picture mail to my sister [the lil fashionista of the fam] &she thought it was cute! So I thought I'd share and let you decide for yourself what you think. It's growing on me!

I don't know about you, but after the holidays are over, I really want them to be over, and move on to some new decorations! The next holiday is one of my very favorites to decorate for. Valentines Day. And with a little help from Pinterest, and The Creative Crate, I was able to whip out this baby.......

So super easy, not to mention A.D.O.R.A.B.L.E!

Supplies:

1. 3 peices of scrap wood
2. Sandpaper
3. Stain, paint, and a brush. (*stain if you want)
4. ribbon, twine, or tulle

Tutorial:

1. So I'm not sure how this happened, but I had these 3 peices laying in my garage, same length, everything. Perfect. Paint them all cream/white.

2. Let that dry, and then sand em up a bit, or a lot. Stain them if you wish... I did not.

3. Then cut your lettering with a cricut, and stick the out line part of the vinyl on the wood. Paint the letters black.

4. Let them dry completely, and then take the vinyl off.

5. Sand a bit more if you wish, especially the letters.

6. Embellish.....And Ta-Da!

Do I even have followers anymore?? LOL My poor, neglected blog. Not sure about my fellow bloggers out there...but I have been stuck in a rut. I used to be super excited to post new things and to even make new things! Lately, and maybe its because the past few months have been busy with family and holiday activities...I just haven't felt very excited to blog. I needed some help getting excited about blogging again! Which is where my latest decision came in to play.

A birthday gift for my momma!

Ever since I made my breadbox ribbon holder my Mom has wanted one. I found a really cute ribbon holder on Pinterest (of course, where else?) and decided to make it for her. It was made out of a crate and was the perfect amount of shabby chic-ness. Love it! Here is a picture of my inspiration:

If you know me OR my mom...you know we can NOT keep a secret. She basically knew everything I was doing for the project...every step of the way. Whoops. This was such a simple project and it turned out just as I hoped! All we did was find a crate (I found mine at Mary's Antiques in Boise) for about $7. Then I went to Hobby Lobby and bought some knobs (for 50% off), and two dowels. My handy man husband got suckered into helping me (as usual).

This part was super easy, we just measured how far apart we wanted the dowels (I already knew my mom had 6" spools of ribbon that she was going to be hanging on these...so we made our measurments accordingly.) The tricky part was that the knobs I bought had to be screwed in...so Chris had to drill little holes into my dowels for the screws. I wanted the ribbon to be able to come off easy, but it turns out she will have to unscrew the knobs when she wants to add more or take one off. Oh well, not everything always goes as planned right? Here is the finished product...and only two months after her actual birthday. LOL Sorry Deb! At least its super cute!

Good news...my Mom loved it! And she also loved all the knobs I chose special for her. Success! Who said Pinterest was just a waste of time that no one ever actually made the projects they pinned? Not this girl...I'd like to chalk this one up to my 5th "Pinterest inspired" project! Not too shabby.

Just made my first purchase buying fabric online. I am so excited for all of the prints I ordered! Most of it is all Amy Butler fabric...because I just love all of the designs and colors. Can't wait to get it so I can start sewing away! Plus they have a ton of options for chevron print...which I haven't found in any of the stores (checked Hobby Lobby, JoAnn's, Craft Warehouse...etc). My first Doll clothes

I found some really cute doll clothes tutorials on Pinterest and found some time to actually make this cute skirt:

Not bad for my first one eh? (Try to ignore the quick cell phone picture) The directions were really simple...if I can do this, you can do it. Seriously. Now she just needs a shirt! And I'm thinking about sewing one for Kinlee Jo as well. And maybe another one for this dolly's twin sister. When I find some extra time laying around...that is what I will be doing!

They turned out so darling and were really quick since we used Tara's awesome silhouette to cut the fabric out. Garage Sale SCORE!

This past Labor Day weekend we went to McCall, ID with two sick kiddos. We didn't get to do a whole lot since the kids weren't feeling well, but we did manage to squeeze a little bit of fun in. On Saturday my husband took our three year old for a four wheeler ride around the block to get him out of the house for a bit. They came home with a bag of goodies they found at a garage sale. Corbin had two new-to-him "horsies" that he wouldn't put down. Chris said "I picked out a couple of girl toys for Kinners, since we don't have very many for her to play with here at the cabin". Pretty sweet daddy, huh? There were a couple of scary looking barbies in there, some my little ponies and then a naked doll. I picked up the doll and she was pretty cute...had brown hair and brown eyes. I looked at her tag and low and behold...she was an American Girl doll! I got all excited and asked Chris how much he paid for it. He said it was 5 bucks. WHOOT, WHOOT! Chris said he thought there was another one there with blonde hair. Of course I decided we had to go find out and get it! Sure enough, there she was with knotty hair...no clothes...looking a bit rough. I didn't care. I snatched her up and happily handed over the 5 dollars.

When we got home I had to look up the website so that Chris could see how much these dolls cost. He was clueless...as any guy would be...and this is when we figured out that they were in fact the "bitty twins", and that they cost $100 for the pair (plus a silly little book). SCORE! Here is a picture of the dolls we found if you were to buy them brand new:

So after I played beauty parlor with the dolls and put their hair back into little ponies and wiped their faces and bodies down with soap and water they are like new! Now I just need to find them some clothes. Then I will wrap them up and give them to Kinlee Jo for Christmas :) If you have found any good tutorials for American Girl doll clothes let me know! And I will be sure to post pictures when I get some outfits made. I love when I find good things at garage sales. Have you found anything great lately?

Knock off Pottery Barn moss letters

I finally decided it was time to fix my shelves in the kitchen. They were looking pretty pathetic with a patriotic star hanging on my old window and a bunch of random things up there. So I went on a hunt for a couple fun year-round decorations to leave up. I love decorating for each new holiday coming up but lets face it...after the fourth of July there isn't much to decorate for until fall. And I am not ready for pumpkins yet. So here is what I have come up with so far:

I already had everything up here except for the moss letter and the flowers in the vase to the left...which has been sitting empty up there for a couple months now. Nice, huh? So I headed to hobby lobby and picked up this bunch of flowers (already arranged). They were $14.99 but were 50% off. I had seen Pottery Barn's moss letters in their magazine a few months back and the $79 price tag was a bit ridiculous. And since I am crafty like that I decided to make my own knock off. (And so have many others...) But here is how I made mine.
I picked up some sheet moss (made it a lot easier then buying loose moss...but probably not any cleaner) and a wooden letter. The moss was $7.99 but I used a 40% off coupon from my phone. Everyone knows that you can go to Hobbylobby.com on your phone and just pull up the coupon right there in line and then show the cashier the code, right? So easy and convenient. Plus, if you're like me you never have your coupons for the right place at the right time. Story of my life! Lastly, I grabbed a thin wooden letter "C" to cover. It was only a buck. So a moss letter for only $5 bucks! Not bad!

First I layed my letter on top of the moss:

Then I trimmed the moss to fit: (If I were smarter I would have layed the C down backwards...so that the front turned out prettier then the back. You'll see what I mean in a minute) You want it to overlap so that the moss covers both sides of the letter.

Then start hot gluing:

**Be careful not to burn yourself 1,000 times like I did during this process.

Getting there! A tip, if you have a curvy letter it makes it a lot easier to cut slits in the sheet moss before you try to cover it.

Almost done. This is where I was saying I should have done this backwards. Then the back would look like this...not the front! But if you were like me, you should have a bunch of little scraps that you trimmed off trying to make the moss fit better. Just hot glue and continue to fill in the gaps:

By this point you should be finished, or close to. (With a bit of a mess on your hands too...)

Since I knew I wanted to hang my letter I grabbed some twine that I had (from the dollar store) and hot glued it to the back of my letter.

Ta-Da! Super quick and easy new decoration.

This picture is crooked I know, but I didn't want my ugly light fixture hanging in front of it so I got a weird angle.

I think it turned out super cute and tied my shelves together. At least until the next holiday rolls around! How are you decorating right now? I would love to see...leave me a comment with your blog address and I will come check it out.

I have had quite a few people contact me about my new blog design, so I thought I would revisit this subject! I do not know the first thing about graphic design. I don't even know how to put two sidebars on the blog. Almost everything you see here (the cute colors, the buttons, the tabs, the ways to contact me) were all the result of my super talented friend Jodie Hansen. She is very easy to work with and I made her change things about a million times until it was exactly what I loved. (I kept thinking she would say "ugh, take it or leave it the way it is...I'm not changing this AGAIN" but she never did.) I have a three year old?

I have a three year old. I HAVE A THREE YEAR OLD?! How is that possible?! My baby boy turned 3 on June 30th and we celebrated him with a Pirate themed birthday party! He and all his little friends loved it and had a blast. I ordered almost all the decorations from Oriental Trading but did manage to make a birthday banner for Corbin. Here are some pictures of all the fun.

I have totally been slacking on my crafting lately. I blame it on two excuses. First, we have been out of town quite a bit...I'm really enjoying all of this time with my family. And second, I am completely and udderly addicted to Pinterest. That site is going to be the death of me. I have totally spent more than a few nap times just pinning my little heart out. Oops! One of my favorite holidays is coming up quickly!!

The Fourth of July!!

There is just something so fun about celebrating America with friends and family. And then there are the fireworks of course...perhaps the very best part. :) Oh yeah and let's not forget the delicious food!

To get in the spirit I made some bows for my girl and a new wreath! Actually it's not new at all...just the red, white & blue part is. (Wanna make yourself a Year round wreath too? Check out my post here) This wreath only ended up costing me $1 for the blue star ribbon from the dollar store. I had the wreath and I raided my mom's stash of fabric for some red, white and blue! Ha. That's what Mom's are for right? hehe. Thanks Mom!

And the korker bow:

The Korker/Corker bows are super easy to make. You can find a thousand tutorials for these all over the web, but just in case you want to know how I made them...here is my tutorial.

Supplies:

1. ribbon (small grosgrain works the best)

2. dowels

3. wooden clothespins

4. cake tin- (I just happened to have a disposable one...but just in case you don't, just line your tin with foil)

5. lighter so the ribbon doesn't fray

6. Alligator clips

First off, preheat your oven to 275 degrees.

Clip your ribbon to the dowel.

Wrap ribbon around the dowel, then clip the end with another clothespin.

(I wanted my ribbon curls to be tight, so I left a small space. If you want them less curly, leave bigger spaces on the dowel)

And my tin of ribbons:

Bake in oven for 25 min.

Let the dowels cool and then unwrap the ribbons. Cut into 3 inch pieces, then singe the edges with your lighter. (Or use fray check). Then I placed the ribbons together and sewed threw them. [You can also hot glue them or tie them together] Hot glue your alligator clip on and you're done!

Sidenote: I had a few left over korker ribbons so I used them for my 4th of July wreath. You can also stick them in regular bows for a little extra spunk. The possibilities are endless! My friend Deena also gave me the idea of spraying the ribbons with starch so they don't lose their curl. Of course this was after I was already done...but next time I will try it for sure.

Well, summer has officially started off with a bang! I have been MIA from the crafting world for FAR too long. We took the kids on a 10 day vacation to California at the end of May and life hasn't slowed down since. Between a weekend away in Oregon, and a trip to Utah for my Grandpa's funeral...let's just say we have been busy. I wanted to give a shout out to all the amazing Dad's in my life.

First, my wonderful husband. He is such an amazing Daddy...my kids are so lucky to have such a great dad who loves them more than anything and is constantly thinking of them:

A LEMONADE party!

My baby girl turned ONE this past weekend. I can't believe it.To say the year flew by would be an understatement! We have loved every second with Kinlee Jo in our lives. We had her first birthday party on Wednesday night. I have never been a big party thrower...one, because I am not very good at it, and two...let's face it. They are a lot of work. I think it turned out darling, and although baby K had no idea we were all there celebrating her...she had lemons of fun. haha, I had to. :) Here are some of the details.

The beginning stages of our lemonade stand. We found two old crates from a sweet place ~~not to be confused with a junk yard~~ in Boise called Mary's Antiques. One was $5 and the other was $7. We had the rest of the wood at home and then had to buy 2 cans of spray paint. That totaled to about $8. So in total this stand costed roughly $20. But twenty dollars is a small price to pay when I know it will be used for years to come in front of my house :) You know what they say...NEVER pass by a lemonade stand with out stopping to buy a cup. Or three.

I primed it and then spray painted it Krylon Ballet Slipper...except in Satin, not gloss.

Then I hand painted on Kinlee Jo's Lemonade. The only part we are missing is the price :) I ran out of time...but we are using this lemonade stand in her 1 year pictures next week so I will add a picture when it is completely done.

She got really shy when we started singing her Happy Birthday. Then she decided she did NOT want whatever that huge thing in front of her face was. I tried to give her a little taste test...but she was not having it.

This little girl got SO spoiled! You can tell she is very loved.

All in all I would say it was a success! Happy Birthday Princess. We love you so, SO much.

Year Round Wreath

I don't know about YOU guys...but I love wreaths :) They can get expensive when you want one for every season or holiday like I do. I came across this fabulous wreath on Pinterest and of course had to pin it. Then I just happened to run across a twig wreath at the D.I for $1.50. Score! I followed her tutorial, which has awesome step by step instructions. Here is how mine turned out! I just made one for Spring, but I definitely plan on making more as the holidays come. Go check out her 4th of July, Halloween, Fall, Christmas, etc! ADORABLE! And so clever.

I sure am glad there is an entire day dedicated to Mothers. What an important job we have as Moms. I have always appreciated and loved my Mom, but the minute I became a Mother myself, there was a completely different understanding. I don't think there is a harder job in the world...or a more rewarding job. The best thing I ever did was become a Mother! So a big thank you to my Mom for putting up with me...even on the bad days :)

Old breadbox made FABULOUS!

D.I find turned Ribbon Holder!

I love when I set out to find some junk at a thrift store (with the intent to beautify), and do just that! Usually I am not this lucky and it takes several trips back to find even one item that might have potential.

But not this day.The moment I set eyes on this ugly old bread box I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. Make it into a RIBBON holder! I saw the potential immediately.

It was in pretty rough shape...she is pretty old.

But with a price tag like that, I knew I couldn't go wrong! (It says $2.00 in case you can't tell)

The hardware is definitely my favorite part :)

First I took off the hardware (with the help of this little girly) Then I sanded it down and primed it.

I spray painted it this color:

Krylon Catalina Mist. (From Hobby Lobby)

Then I mod podged some coordinating scrapbook paper to pretty it up a little:

Distressed the outside:

And then MacGyver (aka Mr. KCL) maneuvered up a contraction for the dowels to be easily removed, without drilling holes through the sides like he thought he was going to do at first. :) Happy wife, happy life! haha. [He used a router to cut grooves in some scrap wood and then we glued it onto the sides of the box using wood glue.]

Then I added my ribbon and this isn't all of it...but I can easily find it now!

And VOILA! A cute new ribbon holder for only $5! (roughly...I had a 40% off coupon for the spray paint and then the $2 for the box. Sweet!)

And just so you can get one more good look, here is the before and after side by side!

LOVE the end product. Cute and Functional...is there anything better?

Boy, it feels good to have our computer back in action, finally!

It has been almost an entire month that we have gone with out a computer (pure torture). I have been typing on my phone, or the ipad...and I forgot how much easier and faster it is to type on an actual keyboard.

It's the little things in life. :)

I am so behind on my blogging that now you guys are going to get blasted with new posts...I hope you don't mind. ;) I have so much to show you, and I am so excited!

Does anyone remember the pillow I was saying I wanted to make from this tutorial post? The tonight/not tonight pillow? hehe. Well, I found the perfect excuse to make one. One of my good friends, Danielle, is getting married in June. She had a bridal shower/bachelorette party up in McCall a few weekends ago and I made her this pillow.

Didn't it turn out adorable?! I loved it so much I thought about not giving it to her anymore... and keeping it for myself! Haha, is that bad? I know I can't be the only one this happens to! But, since I love her, I gave it to her. And she loved it. At least I hope she loved it :)

I made it the same way as these pillows (click on the highlighted word and it will direct you to my tutorial, in case you weren't aware.) Except that I didn't add any trim. Then I borrowed my friend Tara's fancy silhouette machine and printed out a pretty cursive font for the "tonight" in vinyl. I used the vinyl as a stencil (which was a little bit tricky because some parts were so darn thin...they break easily and the vinyl will stick to itself if you aren't careful). Then I just painted it on with black fabric paint and a sponge brush. I did about 3 or 4 light coats, being ever so careful not to let it bleed through. I also added some black lace flowers to the front. For the back, I decided to do a plain "Not tonight" for two reasons... the vinyl letters weren't as fragile and because I didn't want the back to look as fancy. :) Then I painted it the same way.
