There was rice cooked and dal tadka too but my football savvy brother decided to order pizza to enjoy with his Fifa world cup match not worrying even for a second of the plain rice already cooked in the Kitchen. what happens to the white beauty and the yellow gold ? who cares said bro ‘ we will reheat and have it in the morning maybe
When morning came I stared into a pot full of plain white rice ,“colour colour where art Thou?” Instantly an image of flavourful bright yellow coloured turmeric lemon rice swarn across my eyes, dimaag ki batti jali and I knew id do just that with my rice!

Mission : Transform white plain rice to bright coloured aromatic tangy lemon rice

Process: put a kadai on stove, add oil. Next add mustard seeds let it pop , add sliced onions and fry until golden brown then add red chilles, curry leaves, peanuts, turmeric powder and saute. Now add lemon juice and salt. Can you smell the slight tartness in the mix already? Yo just a minute more and done.
Now add left over rice and mix thoroughly TADA… see the transformation happen!
Garnished with fresh green cilantro leaves served in trendy glassware this lemon rice is an exotic vision for my brother.
He takes in the sunny yellow spectacle while the tantalizing aroma of lemon, curry leaves and peanuts work havoc to his olfactory. He takes in a bite and savors the mix of tangy soft rice and crunchy peanuts , delightful this stuff , is this really yesterdays rice ? my brother questions
100% leftover rice albiet transformed I reply.
I can skip a pizza for this he quips

South Indian Spread

I attended a neighbors’ south indian wedding a week back and was amazed to find buffet system in place along with fire, mantras and flowers. Having attended some south indian traditional wedding some years back I was totally expecting food to be served on banana leaf.
I was actually looking forward to having a flavored vegetarian mix of sweet, sour and spicy stuff spread on a green canvas. But alas modernization had caught up bid the green leaf a good bye.
My thoughts went to the wedding of my friends sister I had attended years back. When I sat to eat food, a fresh bana leaf was spread infront of me and then within no time the leaf was covered with an array of colours and flavours. To start with there was some salt, crunchy masala papad and tangy bright red mango pickle from which a curry leaf peeked out . There was cream white payasam at one corner of the leaf flavoured with cardomom and sprinkled with badams and cahsews which peeked out asking me to savour it right then and I gave in.. Slurrrp , and the payasam disappeared of the green canvas
Then there were some crunchy warm vadas one bite and they were super soft on the inside , and a yellow rectangle mysore pak also rested amidst this platter . There also lay my favorite kosambari salad on the leaf a blissful mix of cucumber, bengal gram and mustard worked magic on my senses. Some vegetable curries and the baap of the meal tempting bisi bele baath melted in my mouth feeding my soul.
There were more number of items on this banana leaf menu but I don’t remember most of them having had that years back . But at the fag end of the meal some plain rice and buttermilk was served , perfect soothing way to end a spicy affair my Yummy tummy squealed.
I so want to eat such a south indian spread soon, someone please invite me to your wedding :)

Since these days people arent using banana leaf it would great to see south indina spread served beautifully in borosil ware

Gulab Jamun

After having a simple dinner mom declared she had made Gulab jamuns today. Both me and my sister sat up excited. Why werent we told about this before? Because we both would togther gobble up more than half of them and skip dinner mom answered.

Gulab Jamuns are my favourite sweet dish, it is the only reason why i attend parties! My brother who loved kheer more demanded why gulab jamuns were cooked and not kheer. He also mused to why the gulab jamuns were named like that. They neither had roses (gulab) nor had black plums (jamuns) in it! Gulab jamuns do have rose essence in it i replied as whiffs of cardomom and rose water from kitchen made its way to my senses .

Next thing i see is an elegant bowl of borosil in front of me filled with rust brown gulab jamuns swimming merrily in a thick sugar syrup . I was tempted to lift them right off the bowl from my bare hands but sanity prevailed as i caught my mom giving me a tough stare.

I transferred one carmel dumpling into a spoon and then to my mouth savoring its sweetness as a drop of syrup dripped out on my chapped lips. Yummy!

I like to eat my Gulab Jamuns when it is warm and soft and so borosil bowls are perfect for them reheat and eat in the same bowl even hours after it has been made.

This was a long drive into the villages of Uttar pradesh, where i had been to visit my nani after ages.

After having boarded a train from bangalore to Lucknow and a 3 day antakshari filled train journey we were quite exhausted when we finally arrived at the grand nawabi styled lucknow station .

From the station we rented a taxi n headed on a strenuous trip to my granny's village which was a full 3 hour drive. Driving through the lush green fields, awash with colours of nature we discovered ourselves, our childhood memories, the old world magic of Lucknow and as fresh natural breeze fanned us even as the taxi went galloping like a horse on the kacha pakka roads of interiors of lakhimpur.

We discovered the real core India , scantily clad children excited at the sight of a car, people having bath at a lake, buffaloes, , cows, bullock carts, sugarcane fields and more.

When we reached some distance drops of water began do go peter patter ... it was rain splattering against green fauna, and that is when we saw a sight to behold a sight for sore eyes, a clear full Rainbow. Amist beauty of nature and almost setting sun it looked like

Heaven on Earth!

This beauty was etched in my mind forever

It was serene sublime experience away from the crowded traffic filled, polluted roads of Bangalore. This was my most memorable trip till date i miss not having time to visit my Granny and have more of such experiences daily

Dont we all just like men well groomed ? Kisses are meant to be enjoyed not turn into a prickly punishment session.

Here are tips to make him go get a shave!:

-Do an extra long drooling session with hot clean shaven actors in front of your man, make him go all 'J'

-Avoid the KISS! every time he approaches for a kiss tell him his stubble pricks n avoid it .

- Ask Him to shave point blank!...... sing Mai Pareshaan Pareshaan every time you spot him with a stubble!

-If he doesnt budge at that Threat him that his next Birthday gift is going to be a super fabulous gillette razor and not a romantic surprise you were initially planning.... yes ladies make him crave so he shaves ;)

- If that doesnt work , go ahead actually gift him a razor ! Infact gift him an all personalized hamper, with shaving cream , after shaves and shaving brush etc, which will actually make him shave :D

- If he is still adamant go ahead give him a personal style make over on his birthday! Ask him 'ill shave you stubble off while you get to watch me do it all being this close to me ? wanna try?'

See him try saying NO to that ;)

Tit for Tat is my simple and sure working answer!

We Women Put in so much of effort to look good, there is eyebrow threading, waxing, hair cuts, make up, and what not ! And men are so lazy and take us so lightly that they just SKIP the shave ! not done!
Dont we just love it when He takes the effort to look good, smell good and surprise you with wow gifts? He loves it too!

So, when your man is sporting repeated stubble, making kissing a big prickly fat pain , then stop and make him crave! Give him a taste of his own medicine, dress shoddily, keep yourself ungroomed n pass on the message .

My hubby had this real bad stubble craze or rather laziness drives and dint shave regularly. We were supposed to be on a dinner date together on a Friday, that is when i tried my tit for tat formula...
Hubby arrived home i was dressed in a drab little loose fitting tee and faded jeans and his reaction reaction was worth its worth in gold.

'Why are you not yet ready " he asked his eyes popping out !

How many times have you deleted an sms and then instantly wanted to see it again and headed over to check in the non existent recycle bin on your mobile? Don’t you wish your phone had a recycle bin too?

Recycle bin is an important feature on our PCs , but sadly we don’t realize its importance . Having such a feature on mobile phones would be an interesting concept. So here I come up with an app idea which can be named mBin.

This app should have certain amount of phone memory assigned to it and store all deleted sms . The app should have a feature of auto delete older messages when memory is full. Other features like storing deleted songs and videos would be great too. Hope someone on intel will come up with such an app.

Ovi maps: Helping my sis with her exams

I found out ovi maps was free and downloaded it on my n97, just to try it out or rather play with it. About a week later my sis(Hina) had her kannada exam and she lost her text book. She was all tears and created a huge mess at home trying to search for the book.

After lot of searching she still wasn’t able to locate her book, it was around 8: PM and she grew tearier with every passing minute. My mom tried explaining to her saying text book was not very important and she could study from her notes, but Hina being Hina just dint give in she was a class topper and dint take chances. She always believed in being perfect. I offered to borrow text from any friend of hers but she said all her friends have exams and so they will need the book too. Finally Mom called up dad asking him to pick up the 8th standard kannada book from any book store on his way back. But but it wasn’t the best of the days for my sister, dad was busy in a meeting and wouldn’t be back home atleast until 11:PM

Now me and mom had to locate a book store in my neighborhood. It wasn’t a difficult task but considering the fact that it was around 9:PM and finding an auto was not only difficult but also expensive ( in Bangalore after they charge double or one and half) it was going to be some job to get a new book. Just then the idea of google hit my head and a second later I realized I had ovi maps on my mobile. I got gps signals in 30 seconds and then I tracked my current location found there were not one not two but three different book stores all in my area. Not only that ovi maps also disclosed to me that two shops were at walk able distance. Ovi maps search feature is awesome it showed me the contact details too. So no extra time waste trying to google. I called up a shop found out they were closing for the day, then I called up the second book shop and he said he would be open for another hour.

And then I started following ovi maps directions got to the shop and rest as they say is HISTORY !
The search feature is perfect, digital compass is fantastic, having hindi as an option on voice navigation is like cherry on cake. The events and geotagging photos are other features I enjoy and use regularly now. Above all what I loved about ovi maps is its simple interface. It doesn’t take a big deal to get used to ovi maps i had no probs being a 1st time user, easy to use simple to understand and operate.

I always heard that “Best things in the world are free” and well ovi maps joining this free brigade gives free a very big new meaning.
So that was my ovi maps story
