Paper Christmas Star Ornament Decoration

Tutorial

Square off your paper

Fold in half twice

On folded side, cut 3 lines leaving 1/4" uncut at other end

Unfold paper square

Bring inside triangle tips together and glue

Skip the next triangle and glue the next set of tips together

Side view of previous step

Flip it over and repeat on the other side, gluing every other one


Repeat this 5 more times giving you a total of 6 start points

Glue 3 star point together and then the two halves together

And you're finished

Bunny Family Nursery Decor

So super cute and easy to do. Here is what I did to make these adorable decorations. You can hang them individually or string them up on a line to make a bunting.

Cut illustrations from a vintage children's book to size ( mine are 5" square)
Cut one piece of card stock for each illustrations to the same size
glue the illustration to the card stock
Trim corners with corner punch
Add aged look to edges with Tim Holtz Distress Ink
Punch hole in top center
Add ribbon for hanging

Vintage Christmas Decorations

Vintage Christmas Book Re-purposed into Christmas Decor

I know it's a little early for Christmas. But when you have a retail shop you have to think early. I've turned a vintage children's book into Christmas cards that you can use as a decoration, gift tag, ornament...or even write on the back and send it as a card. I just love the retro look of these illustrations.

My foyer is going to be a Neutral, Blue and Silver Christmas this year.

No time like the present to get started.

I cut each illustrations to it's best fit.

The I adhered it to a kraft brown card stock.

I rounded the corners with a corner punch.

Next I added some stamps and "aged" the edges with Tim Holtz Distress ink.

And last, but not least, I told them how much I loved them!

Aren't they beautiful!

Mixed Media Angel Wings

Mixed Media Angel Wings

I was in the mood to make something romantic and fluttery with neutrals and gold. Which was a bit odd for me because Gold is usually not my favorite metallic. I just LOVE how these turned out. Here is what I did.

First I drew as big of a wing as I could on 1/2 of an 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper, then I copied a mirror image of it and drew a bridge between the two. She ended up being about 8" wide by 7.5ish" tall.
I cut out tiny feathers. Some with rounded tips and others with pointy tips. I cut them out of burlap, linen fabric, book page paper and white card stock
Using a picture of realistic looking angel wings as a reference for placement ( I found online) I started at the bottom and worked my way up gluing them on with hot glue. I used the same size feathers for the top that I did the bottom. I just spaced them more closely together toward the top. Be sure to only glue to top portion of your feather so you get a more 3D look to your wings.
Next I added white acrylic paint accents and Ranger Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls Mist using a brush instead of the mister.
Finally I finished it off with some Heirloom Gold on some crumpled Ribbon and adorned her with some bling.

I also added ribbon to the back for hanging. It is so hard to capture the sparkle of the Heirloom Gold on camera. She is so beautiful in person. I am so in LOVE with her! Hope you enjoyed my post.

Christmas Workshop

I'm so excited. I'll be hosting a Christmas workshop at Studio 511 in Elizabeth City, NC. We will be making mini works of art and using them as gift tags and/or decorations for this holiday season. We'll also be making gift cards and a MAGIC SANTA KEY!!

Using some of my favorite Tim Holtz Ranger inks, paints and stensills, we will be learning new techniques and skills which will be put to great use this holiday season. If you're in the area, join me at Studio 511 for an awesome time.

Scalloped Rolled Paper Flower Tutorial

This is a popular tutorial that I had posted on my previous blog. I've updated the tutorial a bit with a lot less talking and a lot more pictures. I hope you like it.

Round Nosed Pliers

Old Book

A few tips:

Use a book with thick paper. The rougher the better. You can use thin, slick paper, but it's harder to work with.
Use both hands to roll your paper (I had to use my other hand to take pics)
When you've slightly unrolled your flower and have it just the way you want it. apply a small amount of hot glue and then, working quickly, use the pliers to make adjustments as necessary.

When you've finished, take awesome pictures to show them off!!

Hello there!

My name is Krista. And seriously, this is the best picture I have. They say first impressions are the most important. But this is me. No make-up. No editing..ok, well maybe a little editing. I always seem to be the one taking the pictures and never in them. Do you have the same problem?...anyway. This is my youngest, Alison. She's 4 and this was taken at her pre-school Christmas Program. I will have to get a better mug shot for you soon. Until then, this is the best I can do.

I am a wife to a patient husband and mother to 4 wonderful children. I love art in all forms...sewing, painting, drawing, writing. I am not perfect. I make mistakes. I believe that art is an expression of yourself. I am not perfect, therefore my art is not perfect. I LOVE imperfection. Your art does not have to mean anything to anyone else...and sometimes, it doesn't even have to mean anything to you. Art can be a very public expression and, at times, a very private one. I have found that the best lessons I've learned have been through mistakes. Kind of like dating before you get married. It's easier to know what you want in a partner, if you know what you don't want. I also love sharing art. I love sharing the lessons I've learned and I love, love, love inspiring people to do their own art.
