My Dear past, present and future Clients!

Most of you probably know, that I’m not just a wedding photographer, I LOVE photographing families and I plan on doing lots more family sessions this year. Some of you might know that, starting 2012, I photograph family portraits exclusively on film and my old Rolleiflex camera. Why film? In short, it makes me a better photographer. Shooting medium format manual focus camera and having only 12 frames per film makes me more aware of that perfect moment, being more observant and patient, resulting in very special and intimate photographs. Plus, I LOVE the quality of the film images; they are truly timeless and nostalgic and the whole reason I fell in love with photography. What does it mean to you, as a client (besides getting beautiful, unique images that will make your heart melt)? I have to re-structure my portrait session fees in order to compensate for the cost of film and processing. My 2012 family portrait session fee is $300 and it includes 60-90 minute session designed for up to 4 family members, 3 rolls of medium format film (colour and black and white), and online proof gallery with digital files of the images, processed and scanned by Richard Photo Lab. You will then have options to either purchase prints from the proof gallery or to buy a CD with higher resolution images. Online proof gallery will only provide you with web resolution images (not big enough for printing). Please contact me for the full price list or with any questions you might have.

So, to get keep 2012 family sessions rolling, I have a special offer – all family sessions booked for February and March will receive complimentary CD of medium resolution images (valued at $150) along with a set of proof prints.

I was super excited to work with Erin and Matt again, after having shot their wedding last year. This time we’ve decided to get together for a couple of family photos…

got to spent a weekend with my favourite family in Seattle :) and by the way, all of these were shot on film. old school all the way!

why “big fish” you may ask?
just when we were about to leave the beach, we spotted a huge rock fish that’s been drifting to the shore. that thing was HUGE and spiky and looking kind of under the weather. the fish was drifting belly up. it was carried by the tide and it soon ended at our feet (AND THAT’S WHEN I RUN OUT OF FILM!!!) it was barely alive, but still breathing. i think it was the first time that Maksim and Phillip saw anything like that. they were scared at first, then curious. then Maksim started crying because he didn’t want the fish to die… eventually, Yana grabbed the fish (YES! WITH HER BARE HANDS!!!) and threw it as far as she could into the water. what followed next – made my day.
i must admit, i gave up on that fish from the minute i saw it. i ACCEPTED that it was dying. and it didn’t bother me (is that what they call getting old? getting numb emotionally? accepting things so easily and thoughtlessly?).
as i was ready to walk away, i heard triumphant screams of Maksimka, Yana and Phillipka (but mostly, of Yana :). THE FISH WAS SWIMMING!!!! we all run to see it and, for sure, it was swimming into the ocean (belly down and everything). i think we all felt like a miracle just happened… a spark of something good and right… when you know everything is going to be just fine.

I’ve known Kirill and Yana for… a long time… way before Maksimka and Phillipka were born. It’s still hard to believe that time passes by so fast… I remember when I was five – my parents and their friends all looked so grown up to me. And now I’m one of the grown ups in the eyes of Maksimka and Phillip, but the spark of curiosity and cheekiness in these eyes feels so familiar :) It was just a great day, hanging out with old friends and still feeling the same.

And on technical note, all these photos were taken on old film camera with black and white film. I’m making a shift from digital to film for all my family and portrait sessions, so your feedback is very welcome!

If I have just one word to describe Jen it would be LOVE. Love for her two precious boys, for people that she meets, for her work and her love for life. It was amazing opportunity?/chance?/faith? to meet her and to be inspired. Thank you, Jen!

It’s been one heck of a year for me. Personally, and professionally. I’ve shot (and second shot) 17 beautiful weddings, met some amazing people, made some ambitious plans, re-discovered myself in Black Rock desert, learnt to forgive and to be forgiven, learnt learning how to walk the talk, to be humble and to stay true to myself… wow, where did all that come from?!! all I wanted to do is to post some of my favourite 2011 images :)
