Homophobic Hate Mail; Brace Yourself!

Dealing with massive amounts of hate mail and the negative, life sucking energy that comes with it can be difficult to handle emotionally — especially when the hate is directed at a group of people who only want to perpetuate, focus on and promote the importance of love.

Below are 19 pieces of hate mail, out of thousands, that Wipeout Homophobia on Facebook receives from around the world each year. In response to this hate mail, Kevin, the founder and curator of WHOF decided to address this issue by taking a unique, humorous and light-hearted approach in his message replies back to each of these pieces of mail.

If you’re not familiar with WHOF – briefly, their two most profound positions with regards to their quest, goals and mission are:

- “To make everyone equal, because equal rights aren’t equal until everyone has them!”

- “NEVER confuse HATE speech with free speech – HATE SPEECH KILLS!”

In addition, they’re dedicated to and have effectively removed thousands of Hate Pages from Facebook in their effort to squash hate groups who sprout up and spread their hateful ignorance to others who are easily influenced.

#1.) Baby Makers

Dear Denzil,

Thank you so much for your beautifully composed message. It arrived just as I was eating lunch, which as you probably know, for us gays, consists of vol au vaunts filled with pink marsh mellows and sprinkled liberally with glitter. A far more tasty treat than your suggestion.
I’m sorry to hear that anal sex makes you feel nauseous, I can only assume that you’re doing it wrong. I have attached a ‘safe guide to anal sex’ for you to flick through at your leisure.

May I also take this opportunity to point out that I do NOT dislike “straight” people, some of my best friends are in fact “straight”, others have never actually confessed to being “straight” but I have my suspicions. I even found out at a very young age that my parents were also “straight” and upon further investigation I have found that several of my gay friends also have “straight” parents, I am beginning to think that this is no coincidence!
I wonder if my, or your, governments know about this? Do you think they will have worked out this conspiracy of “straight” parents churning out gay babies? I think you may have stumbled upon the discovery of the 21st century, this is our Watergate!

Thank you for your lovely message, how nice of you to notice that I am Kind, I do try.

As for the subjects you wanted advice on – I’ll do my best but believe me, I’m no oracle.

Yes I do believe that there are more than enough crazy people in the world, it always amazes me that people who wouldn’t have been allowed crayons 10 years ago now have access to the internet. BTW what is your favorite color crayon? Mine is blue, they taste best.
I doubt that the world would be better without gays; to be honest they would be a miss to the caring and service professions and don’t even get me started on hair dressing.

Less beans would make the world a far worse place in my opinion, I love baked beans on toast and chili just isn’t a chili without kidney beans – so I’ll have to disagree with you there too.

I love my tranny, I listen to the BBC Radio 4 during the day for plays and comedies and discussions while I’m working, so I’d miss that a lot. Being gay isn’t really a disability, unless you’re a stud horse or a homophobic bigot, in which case I find that most homophobic bigots hide their latent homosexuality (That means gayness) and attack people who are openly gay so that they feel less insecure about themselves, but I don’t need to explain that any further to you, do I?

I can see how God would dislike fags, here in the UK my friend Joe smokes 20 fags a day, the rug beside his sofa has dozens of tiny burn holes on it, I can only imagine what that would do to an angel’s wings, I guess they’re highly flammable and smoking would cause a health and safety issue. Plus you have to remember his house = his rules!!!!!

As for Faggots, well I love them, I was in Wales recently and bought them freshly made from the local market, they were the best meat balls I have ever tasted.

There was a strange incident though at check in, in the hotel, when the receptionist asked me if I’d like anything on room service and I replied “Could you send some faggots up please?”
According to the receptionist (Telling me later) the American couple behind me looked quite shocked (I think they may have already eaten) and even more so when I added, “Just a couple though, I’m cutting down.”

I don’t think God is a vegetarian or anything, I’ve heard he’s partial to fatted calf. Anyhow, I’ll pop your suggestion into the discussion section and see how it goes, thanks ever so much for your support.

Firstly as I have stated both on the website and the info. section of WHOF’s fan page — the word Wipeout is used intentionally; it is a surfing term meaning to be knocked sideways off a board by a wave, bigots surfing the net will be knocked off in a similar fashion by being reported en masse by WHOF members.

No, I do not think that encouraging people to be themselves and not what others force them to be, is a good thing, I think it’s a great thing.

In closing, can I point out the “deviant” and “pervert” should never be used by someone who has an open profile as I can clearly see that you belong to the groups “I want to have sex with a banana” and “Fisting”; not that I have anything against either of those practices, but it’s hardly the missionary position is it?

The last time I posted my responses to hate mail we had 3 THOUSAND fewer members, so I had 2 options, either I could ask you to print them out and visit each of the new members in turn, or I could post them again, I decided to save you 20 years and a great deal of air fare and do it my way.

These posts get MILLIONS & MILLION of post views per month on facebook alone, they are shared to members profiles and that brings in a minimum of 10 THOUSAND new members a month. Those 10 thousand new members can then help the rest of us to report the hate pages, support members who need support, sign petitions, complete surveys, and ultimately help to save lives.

We get dozens of emails and messages every day saying how we helped someone or other, we can’t help them if we can’t reach them.
I notice that, although you were very quick to take the time to contact me to moan about my posts, that you yourself have NEVER contributed a post to WHOF, why is that?

As you can see by the LIKES and COMMENTS on that post it was once again received well and many people have shared the album, so it will most definitely be re-posted at some point in the future. To save you the trouble of having to turn your mouse wheel 2 millimeters to scroll past it, I have removed you from the membership.

Vampire Fiction Set in Boston is Braintree Resident's Latest Writing Project

Kerry Rockwood White grew up in Braintree, runs her own graphic design business and has self-published her first in a series of vampire stories, called "Much Ado About Russian."

About two years ago, Kerry Rockwood White and her husband Dan were watching one of those unintentionally funny entertainment documentaries on TV, about the renewed popularity of vampires in American culture.

White had seen the Twilight movies and was a fan of the HBO series True Blood. The roundup on vampires had her and Dan joking back and forth, eventually leading to White saying that she should write The Woman's Guide to Dating Vampires.

That night, lying in bed, White couldn't ditch the idea. She developed a main character, Hero Fletcher, a storyline about Fletcher – a single woman living in the Boston area – that involved meeting a handsome vampire at a nightclub, and set to work on a first draft.

It took just more than a month, writing a chapter every day or two in between taking care of her son and daughter and running an at-home graphics design business with her husband.

"This is probably the quickest I've written a book," White said. "As soon as I found Hero, I couldn't shut her up."

The novel, its 298 pages and stark black, white and red cover available on Amazon, is called Much Ado About Russian, and is actually the fifth book written by White, a Braintree native who grew up in the same house she now occupies with her family in East Braintree.

White attended Ross Elementary School, then East Middle, where her love of reading, and her knack for creativity, led to one of her first writing projects – a book report that instead became her own short story, about a conflict of communication between a boy and his teacher.

But despite White's passion for the arts – her dream in high school was to double major in journalism and music and become a writer for Rolling Stone – she ended up majoring in accounting in college, for economic reasons, and with a push from her parents.

"I didn't want to pay student loans for the rest of my life," White said.

After college White worked for a school supply company, where she met Dan, and had Aidan, who is now 12 and into making his own movies, and Julia, who is six and has her mom's passion for reading.

Following stints with a PR and marketing firm and with State Street in Quincy, White started her own business, which her husband now helps run. She also works with a worldwide group of independent artisans who have done projects for celebrities and nonprofits.

With a more flexible schedule came more opportunities to write, and White started digging into ideas that stemmed from crime shows and the Harry Potter series, penning four books before landing on an idea that she thought was especially marketable.

A friend of White's who is a big fan of vampire fiction read each chapter of the book as she wrote them. "It kept me going," White said. "Do I just think I'm being funny? Or is it funny?"

After putting the draft aside for a couple weeks, giving it another close edit herself and letting Dan go over it as well, White started trying to publish the work the traditional way, through literary agents and publishing houses. But after repeatedly not hearing back, or receiving form letters or ones that contained notes bearing little resemblance to her actual story, White decided to put her efforts into self-publishing.

First she got her manuscript professionally edited, then went with Amazon.com's CreateSpace, a website where authors can select among an array of self-publishing options. When a book is ordered online, it is printed and shipped directly to the customer. White also made Much Ado About Russian available for the Kindle e-reader. Digital copies are less expensive – $5 compared to $12 to $15 for the paperback version.

Since making the book available, White has sold about 85 copies. "It's an amazing feeling," she said, to read reviews on Amazon and posts on Facebook.

One mention in particular stirred White's emotions, she said. A friend from high school's mother emailed White saying that she had read the book and was moved by it.

"This is not a book you would ever imagine this mother reading," she said. "It meant so much to me, as sweet as this woman is she is not excessive in praise."

White said she will continue to pump out books in her "Fair Hero Series," though perhaps not as quickly as the first.

"[Hero] was talking to me all the time," she said. "I was lucky to sleep."

Our first event was the ESPY awards at the Playboy Mansion in LA in 2010. What a way to start! Since then, IE has participated in The Golden Globes, The Sundance Film Festival, The Kid’s Choice Awards, and The MTV Movie Awards gift lounge events. We even had an opportunity to create special swag bags to send to the set of HBOs huge vampire hit True Blood! The bags were received at the end of their shooting schedule, but we’re eagerly waiting to see some of our members’ items on the set during the last two episodes of the season! Members have also received the opportunity to create swag bags to be given away to guests on BETs Monique show. Every month we will supply the show with a quantity of bags filled with goodies created by our members which will be given to the celebrity guests. We also had an incredible opportunity to create a special bag for legendary director Tim Burton. Such an amazing chance to get your name and work in front of influential buyers!

Recently, following a spectacular reception at the MTV Movie Awards at the beginning of June, we have been given the opportunity to create special swag bags for MTV’s The Electric Barbarellas, a hot girl group with their own reality show on the music network. We also have some top secret plans for even more exciting special swag opportunities coming soon!

The indiExhibit is growing by leaps and bounds! We welcome new members daily and continue to grow, not just in number, but as artists and friends. Crafters and artisans of all types and levels of experience are heartily welcomed into our group. We look forward to seeing many more of our fellow Zazzlers joining us at The indiExhibit.

The indiExhibit is a group of artisans and crafters from around the world who have come together to support and promote one another through a non-profit company. We offer our members the chance to participate in red carpet Hollywood gift lounge events as well as other exciting swag bag opportunities. By working together as a group, we not only share the expenses, which would be insurmountable for any of us as individuals, but we broaden our sales scope by incorporating a multitude of product types, design techniques, craft styles and demographics.

Founded in 2010 by Shannon Justice (known as HahpiStuff here on Zazzle), The indiExhibit works as a community; a place where artists of all type are welcome to come and participate at the level they are comfortable with. Everyone is welcome at IE! We have tons of Zazzlers, but we also have jewelers, doll makers, sculptors, vocal artists, fashion accessory designers, authors and so many incredible artisans. We encourage our members to get to know one another through our private Facebook group, which fosters an environment of camaraderie, idea sharing and cooperation. Some of our members have even come together to collaborate on projects, combining their artistic talents to create something entirely new and share the cost of the event. It’s a wonderful, fun, nurturing environment.

When it comes time to participate in events, members are given several options for participation to meet both their promotional needs as well as financial ones. Packages range from simply including business cards to providing items for the swag bags and having an item on display. Swag bags are given to the celebrities who attend the gift lounge event and we also have an option to provide info and products to be given to members of the press who attend these galas. Members who opt for the display packages will usually get a photo or their product with a celebrity. These photos can be used by the members for non-paid advertising – which are excellent for their blogs, websites, and other forms of promotion.

You never know what will happen because of one of these shows! Some of our members have been contacted directly by stars wanting their items. One of our jewelers sold her display necklace from one show to a member of the press, who then bought her display necklace from the next show before the show even happened! Sometimes a star will even ask if they can have an item. At a recent event one star fell in love with a member’s pair of Ked’s and another star went nuts for someone’s skateboard deck. How can you put a price on being able to say a well-known star has your product?

Shannon and The indiExhibit administration are constantly thinking of new, affordable ways for their members to participate and get the word out about their products. This month alone, three new projects were rolled out to try and increase exposure and opportunities for our members.

Vampire Diaries Stars with Fair Hero Series Book

This past weekend I had the honor and pleasure of repping for my fabulous group The indiExhibit at the GBK Gift Lounge for the 2011 MTV Movie Awards. While I was there I met many wonderful celebrities and had a chance to speak to many of them about our group and about my book.

But I was especially fortunate to have two of the actresses from the CW show The Vampire Diaries, Kayla Ewell and Malese Jow, take photos holding my book. In fact, Kayla Ewell was so sweet, she even insisted on taking a picture with me.
