Hudson, Garrison softball headed to state tournament

The Hudson Lady Hornets and Garrison Lady Bulldogs are headed to the state tournament in Austin, Texas. Hudson clinched a spot in the final four by defeating Splendora in a 3-game series, 1-0 and 10-0 in Bryan and College Station. While Garrison defeated Beckville 4-2 in Henderson in a 1-game series.

The Hudson Lady Hornets softball team is now just two wins away from their first trip to the state tournament since 1995. Standing in Hudson's way is Splendora. The good news for the Lady Hornets though, no opponent has really slowed them down through the playoffs.

When former Hudson Hornet Wes Musick was traded to the Houston Astros organization in 2010 he called the move a dream come true. Just two months into the 2012 season Musick has moved up from Single-A to Triple-A Oklahoma City for the Astros and Monday night was his first start for the Redhawks.

In the SFA Lumberjacks' 57-21 win last week over Nicholls the 'Jacks defense had 4 turnovers, 9 sacks and held the Colonels offense to less than 150 yards. Linebacker Devin Ducote had two of those turnovers himself, a fumble recovery and interception. Ducote may not have much time left at SFA but he wants to go out with a bang.
