I propose to make the goals & access policies of the Blog to be broader and more relaxed than our group. But Batch/Department information in all post should be a MUST.

My proposals are:

1. The Blog should be accessible by anyone.

[ Reader can be Non-KUETian, and contents should be search-able].

2. Only KUETians are eligible to be authors of the blog.

3. Since the number of author can be maximum 100, other KUETians can send post by email. We can publish those in the blog later on.

4. We can have different section on the blog i.e. tags. KUET Admission Info, KUET Life. Graduate Admission Info. Exam tips etc.

5. We can try to have constructive blogs related to Bangladesh Politics, Economy, Social Problem, Innovative Ideas, Seminar/Conference/Scholarship Information.

[ Please comment on it.]

6. We can have a section of success stories, where successful alumni can post inspirational short auto-biography.

7. Post can be in English and/or Bangla (must be in Vrinda font) or mix of them, without compromising quality.

8. Comments should be limited. Single line comments should be discouraged.

9. We can reward 'Best Blogger of the Month' and congratulate him/her by official email.

Please add more clauses in initial proposal so that we can move forward and publish a draft copy of proposal to the Blog.

I had to go through this very disgusting procedure of WES evaluation. The website is puzzling and creates a lot of confusions. Moreover, you'll not get any reply from their customer service. However, the process is somewhat as follows:

First, you have to create a account in their website. This is your naming and educational details with info on in which universities you want to send the evaluation report. In order to create an account you have to pay some charge. you can pay this charge from varsityadmission. com

Second, you have to download the form for bangladeshi applicants. Remember that you DONOT need to submit any HSC certificate (Since you have graduated from a 4year graduation university) although it is very confusing to understand this info from their website.

Third, you need to fill out some information in that form (such as name, WES acount number etc) and print the form.

Fourth, you need to go to the controller of exam in KUET and have to take signature of the controller in the photocopy of your transcript and certificates.

Fifth, in front of controller, sill the documents into an official envelop (controller's office has those envelops) and take sign from controller on the envelop.

Sixth, send the envelop to the official address of WES. Use DHL/FedEx for that so that you get a faster delivery.

Seventh, track your delivery ... when your document reaches in its destination, check whether the online status has been updated.

Eighth, WES will again send your documents to the controller office for verifying that whether it is a true copy or not. They probably send an email to the controllers email address. So, when you'll be notified in WES website that is has been sent for verification, call to controller's office to ask whether they have received your document from WES (mention that it may come by email). If they do, politely request to verify the document.

Ninth, as soon as WES gets the verification, it will analyze your transcripts and declare your credit hour and cgpa in US education system. In most cases, the KUETian credit hours get reduced and CGPA gets increased a little bit.

Tenth, When your evaluation is complete, they (WES) will send a copy of your evaluation result to your intended university. Sometimes, WES makes some delay but don't worry, they will eventually do the evaluation.
In the morning they thought of a plan. They made themselves look as dirty and weird with grease and dirt. They then went up to the Dean and said that they had gone out to a wedding last night and on their return the tyre of their car burst and they had to push the car all the way back and that they were in no condition to appear for the test.

So the Dean said they can have the re-test after 3 days. They thanked him and said they will be ready by that time. On the third day they appeared before the Dean. The Dean said that as this was a Special Condition Test, All four were required to sit in separate classrooms for the test.

They all agreed as they had prepared well in the last 3 days.

The Test consisted of 2 questions with the total of 100 Marks.
Only target for big cities like Göteborg(Chalmers) , Stockholm(KTH) , Malmö(Malmö univ) and Uppsala(Uppsala univ) otherwise you will not get any job probably. Its very rare to get IT jobs like programming or system support(one out of 1000 u can say) but you can get job in indian/bd restaurants or McDonald's(Stockholm) or newspaper distribution company. Otherwise u need swedish language proficiency to get swedish rest. or bar jobs and so on.....
If yes, you will be out of focus from your study. So, you have to decide whether you want to earn money only or earn money to subsidize your living to complete the Masters programme in due time.
But, if you get a tax payee job in any field and if your salary is above 13000 SEK then you can get 2 years work permit. after 4 years work permit you will get the PR in Sweden. That's the new rule imposed from Dec 2008.
So, I suggest you too score above 6 in IELTS to secure your place.
The age limit for our undergraduate programs has been abolished; eligibility for graduate programs is now defined in terms of time passed since the last academic degree or ABD status was earned. Applicants for graduate scholarships should have completed their Bachelor’s degrees no longer than six years before the application deadline. PhD candidates must have achieved ABD status no longer than four years before applying. Postdocs may apply until four years after completion of their PhD.

Actually Here Scholarship is hard without job experience.Because German education system is 5 year diplom so they need some more knowledge. But if u ve GRE or something then its better for applying.

BUT if u ve no knowledge of these then u ve to work in shops or other but then u need GERMAN.
The D-PLM group develops methodologies that integrate product design,
manufacturing and service
to create a novel closed-loop life-cycle modelling and synthesis framework,
self-resilient production
system, which can self-recover from engineering changes and 6-sigma faults.
In doing so, it breaks
new ground by establishing a research field on the interface between
tangible product design,
manufacturing and intangible services. This will impact a range of high
value products, with
potentially profound effects on PLM methodologies in a number of industries
including automotive,
aerospace, consumer goods and healthcare.

This PhD studentship will investigate the development of algorithms for
closing the loop of product
life-cycle specifically between Design, Manufacturing and Service Phases.
The mathematical
framework will be developed to integrate this information that will
contribute towards
improvements in product quality and reliability during different phases of
PLM. The research will
also develop guidelines for effective use of models during engineering
change.

Candidates should be motivated to work with multidisciplinary teams of
researchers developing
mathematical frameworks and methodologies for automotive industries.
Candidates with
Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, computer engineering or
equivalent background are
needed with good knowledge and experience of one or more of the following
subjects is essential:
numerical programming, need a good experience in any of the programming
languages (C, C++, java,
etc), experience in software (such as SAS, MATLAB, etc.), knowledge of
database programming,
simulations. Excellent communication skills and mathematical skill would be
required in this PhD.
The PhD studentship is available immediately. Potential applicants should

I have finished up with 1270 on GRE (Verbal 510 and Quants 760). I am really disappointment with my Quantitative score as I was expecting at least 790 in this section. But, anyway, I have finished it. So, I will suggest you all not to take math so easily, though the questions were really easy in the final exam excluding few. I had almost 10 questions common from dr.rajus gre. But, I felt some real difficulty on data interpretation questions. Because, the sites or forums usually don’t discuss more about data interpretation questions, so I really did not practice them more. Also, one normal distribution problem appears for which I did not have any answer. You can’t just solve them without preparing beforehand.

I had only 30 days to prepare for the GRE. So, I concentrate more on Verbal. And for verbal the original exam was really tough than the software’s available in the market. I was frequently scoring 550-630 in the model tests, though I was not good at all in reading comprehension. But the final exam was so tricky. Say, I knew all the antonym meanings appeared in the test, but it was really confusing to choose the best answer from the 5 available options. Among them 2-3 answer could be a certain choice. So, it took enough time for me and I saw that I need to answer 12 questions in the last 4 minutes. Then a long format reading comprehension appears. So, I just click them without really have looked at the questions. Like that I finished 6 RC questions in 1 min. So, I had 6 questions left and 3 minutes remaining. The rest were just antonyms, analogy and sentence completion and I was always good in those three sections.

So, based on my experience I will suggest the novice GRE learner to target reading comprehension first. Solve at least one RC problem every day and then analyze your difficulty and record them. I really did not get enough time as I am continuing my MS now (busy with experiments and other ideal works). But, scoring 500+ or even 600+ in verbal seems to me is not a tough deal if you put some time for GRE. And for math, prepare extensively and practice every kind of problems.

And finally schedule your exam on the last day of the month (and especially last day before the weekend). And solve all the questions of that month from dr rajus gre before your arrival at the test center. This is all about my personal experience, so please don’t make it ideal.

Barrons, Nova, Official GMAT (math part), Big Book, Kaplan, etc. I would like to
add some more.

Solve lengthy time consuming problems, a lot of geometric and basic statistics.
You can try maths and other things with http://www.majortests.com/gre/ . I am
assuming you have taken Power Prep tests(cd you got from ets GRE registration),
if not try those. I would recommend collecting cambridge gre CD which has lots
of lengthy maths. After all do not be disappointed if you feel you can not solve
some hard questions. Because there are questions in the world and none can solve
it. And you would not need to correct 28 questions to get close to 800 but
definitely make sure not to make mistakes with the first 10 or so questions (1
wrong answer might be ok) as this would select the score range for you. And
leave questions which would be hard and you guess you might not be able to solve
even if you give 3 minutes.

There is a saying like no questions with more than 2 minutes and do kind of
timing like
"first 10 within 15 -18 minutes, next 10 within 12 - 15 minutes, last 8 with 10
to 12 minutes".

If you do not follow timing, I bet you won't be able to finish math in time and
end up with low score. If you are stuck with hard questions, just leave it. You
should not be able to answer those questions probably even if you give 10
minutes on that. I guess leaving two or three questions would be fine and would
allow you to correct other questions on time.

Again if you do not score perfect 800 that is fine, 750+ is Ok. But if you
stress yourself too much to get 800 and miss one question during the test, you
might be nervous and do very bad in the test, even you can get less than 700. So
try your level best.

Remember GRE is also a kind of nerve/stress test. Drink a lot of water and keep
yourself cool. :)
However in my opinion you would focus your credentials to impress the
professor you are writing. First of all make sure you know your research area of interest. Then you look for the particular professors in that research area. Before writing mail, research on the research areas/ recent projects / published papers of that professor. You would definitely find all those in his/her website. Tell about your interest on those particular research topics. And describe what you know/learned or published(if any) on those area. What makes you interested in these areas/topics. Tell all other potentials (GPA, projects, thesis, etc) you have to do good research under his supervision. Make him/her confident that you would be able to do it if you are provided with the fund.

You might not get immediate reply or hear from every professor you write. But do not give up. Do not worry if you do not have publications or good cgpa or not doing thesis on the same field that you want to work on your graduate level of study. Sometimes you won't know how the scope would come but the most important thing is to have strong desire to pursue what you want. Write to several professors after you completely research on each of their area of interests/current research. Give ample time to write a mail.
Hope u will guyz are fine. Here is a little share of little
knowledge about GRE. Today i will say only about verbal part. Only and only a
very enriched vocabulary will ensure good score. Most of the guyz says Barron's
enough but i would suggest for reading Barron's Plus with 4842 words as i know.
The fact is that how much does one need to cover all these words. This thing
varies from person to person..but i would suggest that rush through the words
within 60 days(only the Barron's not Barron's plus). As u will complete the
Barron's list initially, it will much easier to grab the rest of the words then.
But i would suggest not too take much time because our brain needs frequent
revision. Some flash card or vocabulary builder software are available in the
net or simply search through the links that i mailed previously. The fact is
that u have to know all the primary,secondary,tertiary....meanings.Its important
because u have to face the analogies, sentence completion, reading
comprehension...so there's left no alternate way.
For others all have some definite structure. Sentence Completion (Barron's
explanation); Analogy ( Nova's explanation); Reading Comprehension ( Nova's
explanation): all the explanation there & u need to read them carefully and
practice according to the instructions otherwise u will mess up everything. If u
wanna crack the Reading Comprehension part the best approach is to solve the
GMAT Official Guide questions coz they are harder and there are explanations for
all the answers. Don't go after solving a huge huge materials go for only around
500 questions for all the sections logically and according to the hints & tricks
given in those books otherwise u will be screwed up. Coz u have to build the
skill as u will get only similar pattern questions.
The basic algorithm as far i konw they (ETS) will surely grab ur level in around
15/16 questions. So u have to atleast correct most of them otherwise ur score
will be poor. I know so many Indians who did extremely well;they made their
preparation within 6/7 months. So don't be hesitated and don't go after the rumor
as High Scorers take a huge preparation for 2/3 years. Yeah only a few u will be
found but 95% of the all go for 6/7 months preparation and i am assuring it. The
most important fact that will furnish ur score is ur luck( Allah ki Rahmat). But
u have to work hard 1st coz Allah helps those who Helps themselves( saying of
Jim civil-2k4...). As u may actually u have to guess the answers in the xam and
there's always of chance 50-50. Coz the computer understands the right answer as
it comes from ur guess or memory or ur diligent work. But don't be hesitated.
I will keep mailing about it frequently till then bye.

Actually there are so many links u may find out...but my suggestion is that
don't go after so many just stick with some 4/5 books that suits you very
best....

for today i can say only one thing.....

1. Complete the Barron's word list first(mandatory)
then u have to go through the BIG BooK words list ....there u have to
memorize extra around 1500 words.....if u wanna get a superb score in Verbal
Section.
There no definite way to memorize the words. My suggestion u should apply every
technique...going through the words, listening audios, get the GRE PIC
DICTIONARY(2500 words) there;find out every way...

After 4 years of hard work in KUET, I know that many of our fresh graduates are often frustrated at the beginning of their career if they don't get enough calls for interview.

One might have thought that reference is the key to succeed to get an interview or job in Bangladesh. I will tell you about reference sometimes in future - just one comment for today is: reference is very important to the employer for valid reasons, it's not unfair what we used to think in our culture in Bangladesh.

Let's back to resume. What is the purpose of a resume? Simple answer: to get an interview. A good resume is the key to be short listed for the interview.

One most important thing about resume is - you don't write it for yourself but you write it for someone who needs a person with a set of skills. Skills that outside of his/her requirements are nearly valueless for him/her. For instance, if you are a Java programmer and applying for such position, and you are also fantastic in graphic design (for example, photoshop/Illustrator), it doesn't make any sense to include your graphic design skills in your resume. It doesn't carry any value to the reader as graphic designing skill is valueless for that position. I should say that it diverts reader's concentration to something else that he/she doesn't need.

Thumb point is you sould be very specific and precise. Think about a rifle shooter, his/her target is the middle point inside all the red circles. If he/she also concentrates on the red circles, it is likely that he/she would miss the target.

I have attached a wonderful document how to write a great resume (source: Harvard University), how to prepare for interview etc. You can start reading from page 6. Spend a couple of hours reading and understanding the document, I am hopeful that you will get return of your valuable time on reading the document.

I am writing about this because, I was involved in a few recruitement processes in Bangladesh in 2002 and found that writing resume is very common problem - from fresh graduates to experienced people. Your resume must stand out, your reader must say, "wow, this is the one I am looking for".

Remember, from a pile of hundred resumes for one position, reader spends only a few seconds to scan your resume, if he/she likes it in one glance, he/she must separates it to go through again carefully which eventually leads to shortlist.
Try to finish all the tests within the set time bound. Again these days math are pretty tougher than the problems you would see in Barrons+Kaplan+PowerPrep+Nova. Big Books are old enough to rely but worth practicing couple of tests from there.

I would recommend looking into the Test Magic forum.

http://www.urch.com/forums/gre-math/

People from all over the world discuss math problems and solves here. Give a shot. You might find some user designed hard math tests here.

I would practice some big lengthy questions as I found questions more lengthy , even 10-15 lines to interpret. You would sometimes need more than a minute just to understand the problem. Practice those lengthy questions for time management. The more fast you are the smart you are, only if you solve correctly. :) So timing and accuracy both goes hand in hand.

Try to download *GRE Cambridge Software*. Best Software to practice real GRE type lengthy and some hard questions. Again you can use
"Official GMAT" book for some big and hard questions. [This book is also very good for practicing verbal passages]

I would practice like this:

Preparation Part 1:
1) Barrons Math (Not the last 5 tests) - for complete idea
2) Nova GRE (Skip some very easy parts)
3) Few tests from Big Book (Do not forget to read the instructions at the beginning[before the tests start] of the book for "Quantitative" part)

** DO learn a lot from basic statistics(bayes theorem, etc), geometry(even ellipses, parabola, etc ), permutations, combination, etc from HSC books, if possible from O/A level math books. No available GRE books discuss about hard stat, geom, per/com problems but you would find a lot of those in your real exam.

Preparation Part 2:
4) Test Magic Math forum every day to be updated (most helpful to understand real GRE type questions)
5) Official GMAT (for lengthy questions/tricky)
6) Kaplan - for tricks

Tests
7) 800scores.com (download 5 tests)
8) PowerPrep Software (it is not only two tests. you would find some new questions every time you open a new test)
9) 5 last tests from Barrons
10)www.majortests.com [real tricky GRE questions]
11) Cambridge GRE Software (For lengthy and real GRE type questions)

It seems like lot of work. But it is worth practicing. If you do not practice more and more you would run out time or stuck with few problems just for not knowing the formula/tricks

It would not take more than a month to practice math. Good luck.
