Seeing the Edge of Light: Behind the Scenes

Fashion Photography in the Philippines has evolved through the years. It doesn't just fall on concept alone these days; and you need to know what it takes to make your shots "above and beyond" of how you imagine it. You've gotta listen to those who are in the business and make your dream come alive. Somehow, I thought it was impossible in the Philippines but Masters Xander Angeles and Niko Villegas of Team Edge of Light proved me wrong.

I was able to attend their workshop a couple of years ago and I must say; it spelled the difference of identifying what my passion was. Fashion Photography was something I thought I was good at, but these guys at Edge of Light was just SICK!

As if there weren't too much Masters that afternoon, Lito Sy even dropped by! That was my first time seeing him. On the right (in Pink) is Niko Villegas who recently topped Mega Fashion Crew.

I just visited their workshop a couple of weeks ago for Fashion Photography and I immediately noticed how directly they were dealing with the budding photographers that afternoon. It was just like the time I was able to attend their workshop. They didn't stop at just theoretically teaching me what the whole business behind a photo shoot consists of. They make you do the legwork of actually shooting the model. You device a way to do the lighting and setup what you need together with world class models, make up artists and crew.

The equipment they have in house are also at par with the world's best. Some are also Phottix gears and caters to mostly any brand of camera. They've also got Lowerpro bags/other gears around for those who would want to get it for a couple of percent (20%-40%) off. Best of all, Sensei Xander and Boss Niko are Nikon Ambassadors. I love how some of their lenses feel on my cam, you can borrow stuff while at the workshop. Try out the lenses if you feel like it.

The set that day was futuristic, made of wood, tarp and fiberglass. Hair and Make Up was by Ms. Dionne Co; which I must say was equally awesome! She did a great job interpreting the concept and look for the model. Stylist Ashley Cayuca is unquestionably lethal; she's done prodigious stuff for local brands and this shoot was no exception.

These guys taught me more than just taking a great photo, they made me realize the need to learn how to think differently and deconstruct things so you know where your kind photography would go. I'm so blessed that I got the chance to attend their workshops. These guys shoot in New York for crying out loud; if that ain't enough reason to run after what they offer at Edge of Light I don't know what will. I didn't shoot with the actual gear that they had on studio that afternoon but I've got some of my shots turn out great. Just imagine how it would be if I got to shoot there.

This shot I sniped only had one light on it. Now just imagine how you would experiment with about 6 or 7 more light sources, wind, other stuff and make your photo phenomenal. I suggest you do the next best thing and call Haikka for their next workshop schedules. I'm telling you it would really do wonders for your photography!

The End Is the Beginning Is the End ... For Lovely Lovi Poe

It looks like this is the last week of GMA Top rating drama Legacy and sure enough its whole cast is on the verge of tears for the entire season that it has been running. I'm not surprised but pretty emphatic to what Lovi Poe feels at this time. Her experience in the series has made her so in touch with her character "Natasha" saying that she will truly miss it. She might have been evil most of the times; but there's always a hint of goodness and cause to this role that pinoy's surely identify with. This is the thing that she will truly miss. She will also never forget to experience working with the powerhouse cast and the friends that she has made in LEGACY. For those who follow her on this program, don't fret because she'll have two more things lined up after this. A testament of the trust her home film studio has been giving her these past few years.

Lovi Poe will be making a couple more movies with Regal Films. You probably know that she has been doing a lot of movies from that outfit; we know she's truly blessed. She has probably taken this craft a notch higher with the experience she's getting from the veteran actors and actresses she's been able to work with. She is going to do GUNI GUNI. This is the directorial debut of Tara Illenberger, recipient of the best film award at the 35th International Festival of Independent Filmmakers held in Brussels, Belgium. This will have a horror/mystery/drama genre. Lovi Poe will also be paired with Benjamin Alves, who he is being groomed as the next leading man in GMA7. He's the new face this channel is banking on and I'm sure Lovi will help a LOT to this budding artist. The film also stars Empress Shuck, James Blanco, Ria Garcia, Julia Clarete, Gerald Pesigan and Ms. Gina Alajar. Lovi plays the role of Mylene and is excited to come back with another horror flick after Aswang. This will surely be another exciting film!

Turning into drama, she will also be filming “The Bride And The Lover” opposite Jennylyn Mercado plus another Erik Matti masterpiece called “Tiktik, Aswang Chronicles” where she will be paired up with Dingdong Dantes. This will be their first time pairing on screen, she must be nervous. For those who are in Hong Kong, Lovi Poe will be there on June 9 for the Fun Freedom and Friendship Ballat the Hong Kong Shangrila Kowloon. This will be on June 10 to be in the “Tayo Na,Magsaya at Magkaisa” Fiesta event at the Hong Kong Chatter Garden.You guys should come and see her there!

Toni Gonzaga Endorses COKE ZERO

Fresh from her programs with ABS CBN, this television sweetheart has undoubtedly been quite the NEW MEDIA Queen of her generation. From stints of hosting, dancing, acting and her passion in singing, Toni Gonzaga has transcended what used to be called as an ordinary talent. Coca Cola probably have seen this potential and what good thing doesn't deserve another one right? Well it's just going to get better with this news!

A few days ago, she has been named as the official brand ambassador for COKE ZERO. Yes you guys heard that right! Toni Gonzaga was so proud and happy she was tapped by the brand as their newest endorser.

She says her tagline in the commercial "HAVE IT ALL" personifies the wish of not depriving yourself of the best things in life. You can have your taste of COKE ZERO and enjoy it with your favorite food items.

She candidly answered questions from Media and bloggers as well. She was really so thin in person. I wonder how she keeps herself healthy these days, she'd probably say COKE ZERO hehe :)

Pretty as a whistle. Congratulations Toni Gonzaga! You have made milestones in your career, this endorsement from Coke Zero is definitely something to be proud about. Capisce?!

It was a night of SHOCK and AWE as the gates opened at the SMX Function Rooms 2 & 3 for the SONY PREMIER A Collection: featuring designers Dimple Lim, Jeffrey Rogador, Odelon Simpao, Roland Lirio and Xernan Orticio. It was the start of another epic evening as these individuals showcase their latest creations. Shall we start?!

Dimple Lim

FIP and CHS Manila Alumnus Dimple Lim made her presence felt on the runway with several pieces that were well made, detailed and definitely NOT afraid of color.

With gorgeous draping in several lengths and colors, it has definitely proved to be well worth the wait of onlookers. Dimple Lim surely knows a woman's body.

This year she experiments with prints and mix it with colors. She doesn't plan holding back and use warm tones even for this season. I even met her kid after the show. Too cute!

Jeffrey Rogador

This designer who hails from UST has definitely made a mark for himself in this show. He chooses to mixup tans, whites and silver. I particularly LOVE the transparent jackets he made. I just hope he has one in my size!

He definitely makes REALLY good tops. The pieces he showed this particular day showed how wearable they are. Combine the awesome tops with pants or shorts, you can dress up for a casual date or dinner in a jiffy. His aesthetic is quite cool. I also like the things he made for women.

I particularly like this shiny hoodie. Quite the attention grabber eh?!

Odelon Simpao

Dressing quite the named and famed stars from GMA, Odelon Simpao surprises us with pieces that also makes the use of metals in its construction. Shades of Golds and Silver were evidently present in his part of the show. No wonder this guy from Xavier is making waves with his creations!

Sleek, sexy and cool, he makes the cold color choices do the deed. Imagine wearing this without the need for accessories. Isn't that neat?

The full gowns were equally impressive too. I wouldn't be surprised if this suddenly end up in Marian Rivera's closet pretty soon.

Roland Lirio

You don't know sequins if you haven't seen Roland Lirio's collection. He en-vibes entertainment of the eyes in his pieces. It was heavily creative. The beadwork/sequin art done on the dresses and gowns he made that evening was really WORKED ON quite profusely. You really see the effort in making one dress at a time.

I was most impressed with this one in particular!

Xernan Orticio

I personally sent a tweet to this designer because of his BOLD move to gamble and produce just RED dresses for this evening. I know I was right when I told him that people will start to see RED differently now that he's executed a great concept like this! He was heavily talked about in social networking sites. The comments in particular were clamoring for a cult following next year. I'll let the photos do the talking.

It was an eye opener for me. Not just for me but the rest of the people there. Even after the show, my friends were still talking about it. I'm not surprised. Congratulations on that feat alone!

The RED ARMY just killed the audience. They left in a hurry!

Picturesque, Fabulous, Amazing collections wouldn't be that appealing without the proper gear to take photos with (sorry I ran out of superlatives!). Honestly, my DSLR weighs almost a ton an a half. For me to carry and lug that along the hallways of SMX Convention Center is really quite tiresome, not to mention unflattering. The part I'm loving in Philippine Fashion Week is that SONY is there too. They were not just there to show the Premiere A Collection; they were there to show the latest Compact Camera and Laptop Models from their line. I am actually in the look for one, thank God for these good people who got me to try out a SONY CYBERSHOT TX20 that evening!

This gorgeous thing is Waterproof, Dustproof and Shockproof, would you believe that?! It's got 16.2-megapixels up it sleeves. Plus it can take 1080/60i Full HD video. It also packs a punch with its convenient 3.0" touch screen for easier operation. I also love the fact that it confirms every time you need to delete something. Now that's convenience I've never seen in other compact cameras!

For what it's worth, I'm inkling to probably get this pretty soon and use it instead of my huge cameras. It's got a decent price point, powerful specs for the VAIO and an edgy overall look for the camera. I'm dying to have more of this soon. It's like a whole lifestyle change which SONY has definitely been also proud of. Congratulations to the designers who have once again changed the landscape of Philippine Fashion through this show. I'll expect more of you and SONY on the runway.

Make It Or Break It: Down To Mars!

I'm not quite fond of KPOP music but I don't hate it don't get me wrong. I have seen groups try and fail miserably but I have seen something very promising a few days ago. Have you guys heard of Down To Mars?

For starters, Down To Mars is NOT a KPOP group. They are however something new, a new breed signifying a whole other genre called "INTERPOP" probably because they are half Filipino and half of an other Asian race. This was my first time to see them but have seen they've got quite a HUGE following. That alone got my attention. Why were they so interesting to these people? That I've got to find out.

You'd be deaf from their screams if you were there I'm tellin you! The host alone had to stop a couple of times to tell the audience to tone down a bit because we weren't hearing him anymore.

Good looking guys who can sing and dance quite well for their age. No wonder they've been hounded by their fans like that! For what its worth, I honestly see these guys are going places. I can tell that to you this early because they will literally be representing the Philippines in Korea a couple of months from now. The Korea Day together with other International performers will be their launch pad in that part of the world and I'm not surprised if they are going to get a lot of screams there as well. They are seriously combining these guys like its a waste of good looks if you put them in a group. GMA and Polyeast Records are gambling on this one but I think they've got a mighty gem in the rough. As far as performance goes, they delivered!

Plus they showed their single's official MTV! With Marian Rivera on the video too!

7 talented guys who also have the looks. Will the make it or break it? I don't know yet but it certainly looks VERY promising! Sorry for those who say they are "KPOP" because honestly they are not. It's like they are in their own genre. They've got their album already out in the market and you should look for the same name DOWN TO MARS on your favorite record bars. This is once again under POLYEAST Records. Try to make sure you get a copy and see what the difference is! Watch out for their shows in leading malls/establishments nationwide!

Loving Lovi Poe!

She's a breath of fresh air, she's Good, Bad, Lovely, Evil. She can be anything you want her to be on the screen... Simply put it, she's Lovi Poe...

I've been seeing her on screen for the longest time. Born Lourdes Virginia Moran Poe, she's the daughter of the one and only king of Philippine movies. Who am I not to admire her golden complexion; or effortless beauty? In fact, she might not even know it nor am claiming to be sexy; but she just naturally is. Good thing I got to sit down and talk to her a couple of days ago. I was a happy boy.

She had that happy demeanor. She talks so softly yet gets her point across. I had to remember she's actually playing the role of Natasha too in the GMA7 top rater LEGACY. We asked her a couple of questions about that, she gladly obliged.

When asked about the series, she says she was a little sad that it was about to end. 6 Months was a long season but it really felt like it was yesterday for her. She was so glad though that she was able to get close with some of the show's stars, particularly Heart Evangelista and Alessandra De Rossi. Although on some scenes you'll grin and watch them explode with the exchange of "EPIC" lines. Lovi Poe says she really have in some ways relate to Natasha because "Everybody in their right mind would want to be somebody who could talk and speak that way, she doesn't hold back!". She had 2 particular scenes in LEGACY that she can't forget, one was the exchange of lines she had with Alex's character and the other one is just about to happen, you should watch out for that because we're about to do the last shoot tomorrow (this was the day after this interview). She says that she will really miss the people she worked with on this project because they really worked so hard to make each episode worth watching. I agreed.

She is single but is optimistic that the time will come when she gets to love someone. She's learned a lot in the past but bares she can only give what she can. These days, she prefers to CHILL; that's her own term. She's got tons of work but plans to actually have a vacation after LEGACY. She feels so good and says her Dad would have been surely proud to see her success now. Don't fail to watch LEGACY on it's last few weeks, it'll surely be one heck of an ending she says. I heard she's also going to do a movie through Regal Films. It's a horror flick with Benjamin Alves, Empress Shuck, James Blanco, Gerald Pesigan, Ria Garcia, Neil Ryan Sese & Ms. Gina Alajar. It's starting title is GUNI GUNI. I'm sure just like legacy and her other films, this will be something worth while to watch! She's also endorsing a new line from cosmetic mogul SPLASH Corporation. Watch out for that soon!

It was so nice to see Lovi in a different light. She was a joy to talk to. Very candid. Very promising.Don't you just LOVE her more now that you know something about her? =)

Born To Love You Stars Angeline Quinto and Coco Martin

Fantasies are sometime made into reality. I know of some people who really want to be his/her idol and die a bit just like when I met Ely Buendia in the flesh. Well this isn't about Ely, its about a simple girl who wished to one day succeed in her craft and then in the long run make a movie with her idol. Who am I talking about?

Walking on the red carpet of Dolphy Theater on the ABSCBN grounds is Coco Martin and Angeline Quinto. I watched Angeline sing her heart out when BUDOY premiered a few months ago. She must have sung a ton of theme songs for these local shows. Her win in Star Power has definitely given her a lot of breaks and now she stars in her own movie. This is not an ordinary one because her dream guy Coco Martin is going to be her love interest in BORN TO LOVE YOU.

Angeline Quinto was really funny. Imagine right from the beginning when someone gave her flowers, she gave those flowers to Coco LOL.

I'm not really surprised this guy gets lots of shrieks from the girls and the gays there. He was really good looking. I think when I shot the runways of the last Philippine Fashion Week he was the most applauded guy there, aside from MELASON of course. Coco Martin had that charm women would want to find in a husband. He was so nice, he gladly obliged for photos.

This is a very new team up and they are pretty much aware of it. If it will work or not, that remains to be seen. But all signals seem to point to a successful one, how do we know? They have chemistry and believe it or not Angeline Quinto was hilarious! All along I thought it was all going to be VERY dramatic.

The cast admitted that Angeline being new in this craft had to really adjust because she was like a robot in the beginning. She learned so fast in a couple of days because of the help of her co actors. Veterans like Mr. Albert Martinez and Ms. Malou De Guzman shared their expertise not to mention her partner on this movie Coco Martin who unquestionably is one of the greatest Indie Film actors of our era.

They also had pretty good words for each other

Hindi na ako tulad nuon na kamukha ko si Vandolph, this time sexy na ako, two piece kasi agad sa beach scene. Sobra sobra pasalamat ko dahil nasundan agad ng movie ang pagkapanalo ko sa contest.

President for Philippine Operations Richard Teo discusses to online media what DELL is.

I arrived late because of the horrendous traffic in Eastwood City but that didn't dampen the spirits of online media that visited the DELL office in Quezon City. Honestly, I know so little about DELL other than it being one of the largest suppliers of computers here, in Europe and the Americas. Their President Richard Teo explained quite an amount of businesses that DELL is in today; maybe to get to know them a bit... I felt schooled afterwards.

One of the questions that popped into my mind was... Why in the world is the PRESIDENT of this corporation presenting to us? I mean, this could have been done by one of his managers or something right?

They laughed. Well my question made sense right? But they answered quite gamely and told me that it's always like this in DELL, even though he is President they try as much as possible to know each and everyone in the corporation on a personal level. He sits and eats the same way as the 1,600++ employees of DELL in the Philippines. This has been their approach since they set office in the Philippines. This to me is quite a remarkable thing to see as a practice in a multinational corporation. I haven't seen any corporation do this, its like breaking the whole structure.

President Richard Teo and Donna Grande HR Director of DELL Philippines simply said that this is one of the differences about the culture of DELL and other companies. Even though Richard Teo is the President, they are partners and work hand in hand in order to make every task get that same treatment whoever of whatever position they hold as employees of DELL. Richard even went on telling that he lives, eats and breathes the same thing as any employee. They also hold brown paper meets to ensure they get their point across when they say that they give importance to getting THE human potential. That's when I get their point. I'm sure just with this practice alone, they are the envy of most corporations I know.

DELL isn't just involved in manufacturing computer products. As a matter of fact they gained financial strength in the healthcare business too via the acquisition of Perot systems. I think this is what they call the Dell Healthcare and Life Sciences Solutions. Perot Systems is one of the largest providers of health inclined information technology services and business solutions that can also cater to a broad range of clients. This was one of the key areas they are into plus add to that the business process outsourcing leg of their corporation that's gotten quite BIG in the past few years. I wouldn't tell you the figures but you probably know how much the Philippines earned in this industry that's got it #1 status worldwide. With Customer service, POS, Customer Care, health care and corporate services as part of their portfolio, this would have no way to go but UP.

DISCOVERING HUMAN POTENTIAL STORIES

We got the chance to talk to some of the employees of DELL inside the Eastwood office. This husband and wife team originally came from India. The guy on the right had been in DELL for a couple of years and the wife just visited every now and then to take care of their kids, but seeing and experiencing the ambiance and work culture in the Philippines they both decided it was worth to be with the corporation.

She was originally from DELL India but seeing the opportunities inside the young Philippine office she fell in love with the place and its people. DELL knows how service oriented the culture of the Filipinos are. Even their employees find how warm and inviting this country is. They also use this advantage to most of their customer service oriented accounts. Case on point they know they've got some of the best in the industry.

Guy above has been with DELL for almost 9 years. He was a technical support person for a couple of years but DELL pretty much provided him with an environment convenient to growth. Even if you want to laterally transfer to an account which you feel you can do a better job in they will provide you with training and the arsenal to go where your heart wishes to be in. It's not only good to do business in DELL, its good to work there too.

No matter how young or physically challenged you are these guys attest that if you do a good job its not really an issue. They have been with DELL for years now and the things that they have done in the workplace are very says a lot with the excellence the company calls for. Professionals from DELL are world class and they even promote their employees to invite their friends to work in the same place. It promotes teamwork if you know who you work with and they have been successful in their own hiring processes.

DELL continues to grow as a corporation and as an entity who value people, work and excellence in products and services. I just witnessed this feat in this visit. The business is conducive with their employees, its the same with the business and the services they offer. The next time you look for a wholistic corporation that can work with you and still make it one of the greenest, efficient solution for operations; you might want to give DELL a call and get your business running the right way. Loving the A-Gan Tea Lifestyle!

I have been hearing of this brand from foodies who frequent Taiwan and nearby countries. A visit to their country isn't complete if you don't pass by and get one of their signature concoctions so they say but we don't have to really spend thousands of dollars just to taste authentic lifestyle changing tea from the mountains of Taiwan... because a gantea is officially here in the Philippines!

I got the chance to take first servings of this awesome tea place at their Greenbelt 2 branch which I'm sure is going to be the first of many. The opening day was superb as celebrities from Team Askalz and the Philippine Volcanoes brought the needed man presence that evening. I thought I was part of the teams! LOL I immediately ordered a couple, and fell in love instantly. You should try these for they only cost 85-100 bucks! No joke!

The choices were GOOD! I particularly like the Milk Tea's on the menu. Fret not for the coffee drinkers because they have that too on the menu. You get a healthier alternative to coffee with these milk tea servings.

Ordering is a cinch too. You just line up and pay for it then they give you this gadget so you just wait on your seats, outside or on other stores nearby while they prepare your orders. It gets jumpacked there at night so its best to get there a little earlier. Seating is also provided al fresco, smoking areas are there too.

After a few minutes, I got my Milk Lid Mango Tea! It was sweet and tangy. You get that fruity fix even on tea concoctions like this. Pretty Yummy!

Since I already got my fix, I proceeded to the activity area because this is their launch. It was nice to see JAMICH was there.

They've got a pretty good following over at Twitter and Youtube where they became sensations. It was pretty evident as their fans were also there screaming their lungs out. They were celebrating their anniversary coinciding with the A-gantea launch. They prepared a couple of song and dance numbers much to the delight of the crowd. A perfect pairing!

Presidential Sweetheart Ms. Grace Lee was also there to host the show. Pretty in person!

These guys were so game! The Askalz went on stage and started a game for the people who loved A-gantea. It was so nice of them to give this much time for their fans!

Then it was time for my idols the Philippine Volcanoes! I love these guys. Your dirty minds might think they are doing something bad on this shot, but don't worry this is a pair tea drinking contest. They finished the large tea in a couple of seconds! Congratulations to the winners!

The CEO of A-gantea from Taiwan was also there to thank the crowd and welcome the Philippines as the next to get this lifestyle tea brand from Taiwan. I'm sure the Filipinos will love this too!

Bactidol Idol: The Best Performances from the 12 Hour Sing-A-Thon!

Talk about clowning around with your vocal chords Bactidol just concluded their BACTIDOL 12 HOUR SINGATHON at the Red Box Eastwood City. It was a gorgeous way of challenging people to sing for 12 hours straight taking your voice to extremes; but not to worry because simply gargling off at the start took care of them to last this long. Hosting the event was Chico and Delamar from RX 93.1. Being a silent rusher I was so excited to start off this program with media guests and these duo via a warm up to get things started. People were even singing along with me to the tune of Mc Arthur's Park!

They even showed us how to gargle properly. This would actually make me safe from getting infections or anything that would start a sore throat, it was so cool to see them so game!

Then we immediately went to our rooms and started to check out 21 teams pitting out to win the coveted 20 thousand pesos up for grabs if you survive the whole 12 hour ordeal. Chico and Delamar also hosted a side event called Bactidol Idol where a lot of guys and gals would get their friends to vote online to see who wins!

The song choices were difficult for some of them but nobody backed out of the challenge!

Some guys had to sing women's songs and vice versa. It was one of the most memorable things they probably had to endure in order to win too. Aside from that, real deal recording stars were judging you as well. It was hard but they were more than happy to sing for these three!

No you are not dreaming! Imagine Kitchie Nadal, Barbie Almalbis and Ebe Dancel scrutinizing every scream or belt you can imagine coming out of the contestants. There were a few hits and misses for sure but it was more all for clean fun!

We tweeted every hour and got so many people asking to join this contest but the slots were already filled up within 2 days. There were even backup teams but unfortunately the ones who started it are as STRONG as ever! Nobody wanted to give up and nobody wanted to give up their slots to them either. They have tried various tactics in order to last the whole 12 hours. Some of them were jumping up and down, spinning around, some were drinking, eating and even got them for free just by choosing certain playlists. There is one particular thing though that surely made them better contestants and that's when they all gargled Bactidol in the beginning!

Leaving a Legacy: DJ Neil Armstrong for adidas Originals

It was a very posh barbecue that afternoon, of course I didn't expect anything less when it's and adidas event. This is the first time I'm seeing one of the greatest artists this side of the world has ever produced, DJ Neil Armstrong.I suddenly thought I was in LA when I got to the Skye Lounge, W Building, Fort. With the throng of expats and similar species that afternoon, I felt this wasn't in the Philippines for sure.Local sports, fashion, lifestyle and music personalities were all there to shake it out to celebrate adidas Originals. The brand found it very important to give much attention to originality and individuality. I concur!

Awesome spinning from DJ Badkiss commenced and of course we did the next best thing, we partied and enjoyed the music! The crowd was gorgeous, best of all they were quite noted in their respective fields. There must have been some sort of qualification made to be in this crowd, one that would require to show what adidas Originals is all about. To "Leave a Legacy" of setting a trend and staying original is hard to do but that's what adidas stands for.

The rain may have poured that night but that didn't dampen the spirit of those who chose to celebrate the occasion.

He was clad in adidas Originals gear from head to foot. I thought he was going to be some weirdo off the house circuit but he was very down to Earth and very accommodating. He was quite a presence and you feel so easy around him. Quite a nice chap!

The lights came on and the music changed. It was time DJ Neil Armstrong made the speakers pound and start another party!

Yeap! The party just started! I just really admire the last few words he said when his set ended. He was so proud to be amongst us, best of all he was so proud to be Filipino!

Simplify Computing: IBM PureSystems

Mr. Scott Firth, Director for Systems Software Marketing and IBM Virtualization shows the next era of IT through IBM PureSystems.

Last night while I was writing this article I was thinking of something complicated to press on the keyboard because this was a pretty technical discussion. I guess I was missing the point right from the beginning; because in a nutshell IBM is making things simpler.

Running any IT infrastructure would require a lot of resources. Software, hardware components plus virtual storage through clouds and other media. This entails a lot of money and corporations; no matter how big or small they are, need all the help they can get. IBM knows this and they are rolling out a new, simpler era of computing via their new "expert integrated systems" which would make life easier for you and me. This would integrate all IT elements, both physical and virtual. This is a new enterprise computing model which would simplify and minimize resources needed to set up and maintain whilst running your businesses. 70 percent or more of budget allowances go to this particular function. Imagine how much that would cost in a larger scale. This is where IBM PureSystems come in.

IBM invested around $2 Billion for R&D and acquisitions over four years in order to achieve this feat. Imagine a world where key functions no longer need to be done over and over again. It is possible now by merely simplifying these processes with actual software that contains these things; in which some are free and some can be purchased much like an in house "conceptual app store" for IBM. You can literally make things work in minutes, often out of the box.

The new PureSystems family boasts of three advances in managing IT infrastructures.

“Scale-In” System Design: With PureSystems, IBM is introducing a new concept in system design that integrates the server, storage, and networking into a highly automated, simple-to-manage machine. Scale-in design provides for increased density – PureSystems can handle twice as many applications compared to some IBM systems, doubling the computing power per square foot of data center space.

Patterns of Expertise: For the first time, IBM is embedding technology and industry expertise through first-of-a-kind software that allows the systems to automatically handle basic, time-consuming tasks such as configuration, upgrades, and application requirements.

Cloud Ready integration: Out of the box, all PureSystems family members are built for the cloud, enabling corporations to quickly create private, self-service cloud offerings that can scale up and down automatically.

This has in effect changed a lot in the computing landscape. With its thrust also touching on cloud technology and using that platform to generally also simplify processes, this would be something that ordinary people can actually use to maintain resources. Later on, they could make data accessible to any place and have it with the right amount of security too. When asked about other vendors selling hardware/software components similar to PureSystems, Scott Firth and Karl Wee affirms IBM is different because they have a more wholistic package. It's a tougher cookie to bite these days but the selling point is indeed the convenience in setting it up and maintaining it with a single press of a button using the right software/applications. In the long run, this is pretty good investment and can save enterprise/corporations millions of dollars.

I don't know why but it's so good to have one whole day of staying at home and enjoying TV. It's so easy to enjoy one evening full of laughter with humor you can't get enough of!

I love the Doctor in this series. If you are fond of the Simpsons but want it a little more futuristic then this is the right program for you. Futurama Season 4 stars Fry, Leela, Bender and their crew would go from the strange to the futuristically weird to the enjoyment of you and your family. You can watch this series 6PM this Saturday with back to back episodes on JackTV! That's a treat, without the squid guy of course!

Do you love burgers? Do you know there's a ton and a half stories behind that little old patty and bun? Oh well this little family and their business just became so interesting when they struggle to keep it alive. Now Bob's burgers is turning into a food truck that gets hooked up with a treasure hunt in a taffy factory and a needy bank robber gets into play too. How do these guys even meet? What would the crazy kids do? I dunno, so make sure you watch Bob's Burgers Season 2 7PM on the same day! Of course it's JackTV!

How does a family man who always ends up in the losing end ever survive his own family? How does he go around and tell people he's successful when in fact he's not but tries as much as he can to stay sane with his family. I love Cleveland and his humor. He looks funny even without doing anything! He makes fun of himself and those darn family situations which I find so hilarious! If you don't know what I'm talking about, then you must probably haven't watched them yet. They are on the 7:30PM time slot. JackTV is really making my night more special! That's the only Saturday Night Laugh block on JackTV! =)

Another blood lusting series is about to end and this season ender is truly going to be exciting as the Vampire Diaries bid goodbye on Tuesday, May 15 8PM. It will be shown on ETC and you'll surely enjoy every scene as love, relationships and death become doubly complicated... why? It's a life of a vampire after all!

Just imagine the life of a Vampire, being chased by another Vampire because of the fact that they are not purely bred or mongrels in dog language just makes this even tougher. Stefan and Damon would need to deal with Klaus the original hybrid and if the chase and fight ensues between Vampires, expect a lot of bloodshed haha I just gotta say that haha. Killing one who started your bloodline in Vampire diaries would also entail the precedent Vampires to die so they might not like it if it turns out that Klaus is within their bloodline. What do they do?

Alaric who is now a full blooded Vampire will still try to kill all of them ala Castlevania. Elena, Aunt Jenna and Matt will make your relationships more complicated as they try to survive the complications of being with vampires.Who will she give her love to? Will it be Stefan or Damon?

Miriam College Nuvali - Breaking Ground in the South!

Some of my friends and family finished in Miriam College in Quezon City. It was a nice morning to take part in something so big with this school. We got a glimpse of how it's like to be in this promising development down South. Yes ladies and gentlemen, Miriam College just broke ground in Nuvali. This coincides with the school's 85th Year in existence. With Nuvali's dedication to environmentally responsible living, it was something so right for the school to expand its wings inside a 15 hectare property.

Ma. Rosario O. Lapus, Ph.D says Miriam College-Nuvali has been blessed with roots and wings. Their roots are still in Quezon City, together with everyone she wants to enjoin them on their flight to the south. They are so glad that they are expanding their wings in Nuvali.

Miriam College - Nuvali will have the same Mission, Vision and academic standards as the Quezon City Campus. The communities in the south will surely benefit from this and the studies that they have made indicates the need for their unique kind of education. The unique kind of education? I have been hearing that since they started and tried to find out what it was.

They gracefully thanked everyone who attended the occasion and also the Maryknoll Sisters who were there to witness the opening of the second campus. Judging from the actual alumnus present in the event, their distinct unique education was starting to become clear to me. They are all going through education offered on their school "The Marian Way".

Fernando Zobel de Ayala was there as guest of honor; and surely this must be very important to Nuvali. He says he's very delighted to have Miriam College in Nuvali. He's looking forward to work with the school and both have a meaningful impact in the lives of Filipinos today. He knows how much the community would benefit from this school who's going to put up their second campus in an Ayala Property. With the studies Miram College has made in putting this up, he's sure this would be a welcome development and they are welcoming them with open arms. It was the right place and right time according to Mr. Ayala.

There was also an exhibit on the history of Miriam College. It was so nice to see how they have grown to be one of the best institutions in the country.

Aside from the Board of Trustees, the Maryknoll Sisters were present too. It was so nice to see them there.

Miriam College showed up with world class talent as their multi awarded choir provided music. It was so nice to see an all girl glee club.

Signing is Dr. Rosario Lapus Miriam College President, Ana Margarita Dy head of Strategic Land Bank Management Group, Ancieto Bisnar Jr GM of Vesta Property Holdings Inc and members of the board of trustees.

At the venue, it was so nice to see that each of the departments in Miriam College was represented. They wrote letters to future students of Miriam College Nuvali. So heartwarming to see the one made by the kids!

Under the sweltering heat of the sun that afternoon, everybody was so happy to witness this momentous occasion. A mass was celebrated. It was the right thing to do, to start off the Marian way they are so proud of.

Miriam College will begin operations on 2014. It will be COED and will strive to have the architecture and design 50/50 on structures and open spaces + greens. Phase 1 of the project will cover basic education programs (preschool, Grades 1-2, 1st and 2nd Year High School; additional school levels will be opened up every succeeding year). Phase 2 (which will happen on the 5th year of operations) will include their higher education programs. They will still be concentrating on their forte which is Science, Math and Communication Arts. They will also be offering Marketing, New Media, Entrepreneurship, Design, International Studies, Gender Studies, Environmental Studies among others. They will also open night classes for Adult Learners, Out of School Youth which is quite similar to the program that they have in the Quezon City Campus (via Miriam Adult Education - MAE) mostly for underprivileged people in the community.

It was so nice to see they have gone full circle. Miriam College is truly the epitome of TRUTH, JUSTICE, PEACE and INTEGRITY of CREATION. I know now what Miriam College stands for when they say they have a "Unique" kind of education, I just witnessed that first hand and I'm sure they will become a bulwark of what they stand for in the South.

Experience ESPN HD, SKY Broadband at SKY Zone!

I want my own HD TV! That's exactly what I got imprinted on my forehead when I visited the SKY ZONE facility at the posh Powerplant Mall in Rockwell. I had never seen channels so clear in my entire life! It was like everything was just next door and it was just a flat glass screen separating us. I didn't know we had this technology within out reach through SKY CABLE HD!

The thing is you can only experience this high definition cable TV viewing plus high speed broadband Internet through the SKYZONE Mall Blitz on May5-6, 19-20 at the Ground Floor South Court of the Power Plant Mall in Rockwell. The afternoon simply just awed me about how fast the connection was; it makes my office's high bandwidth connection be put to shame.

Just look at the comparison!

Standard Definition Cable Connection had slight delays and it was really showing pixelated parts. Although it showed quite a decent thing on HD TV something was definitely missing. Shouldn't this be crisp and vivid? The game was there, (Thank God for ESPN!) but the people and the whole venue seemed too blurry, I had so many reservations about what I've been watching at home. Shouldn't HD be clearer?

Lo and behold my questions just got answered by merely looking at the side of the SKY ZONE area. See how human he looks like? He doesn't even have those pixels I mentioned earlier. It was crisp as a potato chip fresh out of the oven. Even on an angle it still had that feeling. Maybe if I watched "the ring" that time Sadako might really come out! Haha! It was really LIFE LIKE!

Even my blogger friends tried out SKY Broadband facility had a grand time downloading/streaming movies in a couple of minutes! We blog heavy in photos and didn't see it lag on the Mac computers there. You've got to experience it all to tell the difference. Imagine 112 Mbps! Good thing they are even planning to have them brought to different malls soon!

The weather seems so crazy nowadays. Transportation of goods here and elsewhere in the world has been doubly hard to do because of it. You can't expect one state to have sunny weather and have winter on the next but that's what actually happens most of the time. I know it may sound a little weird but the weather systems change because of global warming. In this day and age we should really prepare to cover up and make necessary arrangements to protect merchandise. If this isn't done it can literally waste thousands of dollars worth of products, more so if you are engaged in manufacturing like me. It might be hard for some but a simple clear tarp would do the job.

I also have some parts of our home in the south that I worry about. When we get materials from the city or elsewhere, it is prone to damage. The wear and tear is understandable but if you lose profit because of mishandling, that is another story. I am not the only one who goes through this. Actually, I have met some of them during a business conference in my part of the world. Judging from the looks of it they employ the same protective tarp measures that I do which says a lot about its ability to make things easier for both parties. The stories they told me were all nice. Some were good, some were bad but it was all based on trial and error. It's probably because in hindsight we are all in the mercy of nature. I know I'm not the only one thinking of protecting my stuff with custom made tarps.

Things should be easy. Maybe I'll try checking out sites where I can get it from. I'm that busy!

I meet stars. That's given with Lifestyle bloggers like me. I seldom do think about how starstruck I become when I'm in the midst of them, more so if they are so talented enough that I become a fan. I genuinely feel happy too if I see them so nice even behind the cameras.

He was no different. He's Jay Park!

Well, there was pandemonium around Eastwood City that evening to say the least. He's a charmer, good looking, sculptured physique, can sing and dance (I almost envied him haha) he's the total package so to speak and he's in the Philippines to promote his latest album called "New Breed"!

It's one way of telling the world that he's back and he's making his mark in this industry. He was awesome on stage, he gave us a good show as you can see!

Honestly I'm not fond of Korean/KPOP tunes but he's definitely one that changed my mind. I even listened to his songs this morning and found around 4 that I could add to my personal playlist. I seldom update my songs and if he passed that, it'll surely be more on your turf... my standards are pretty high.The track Girl Friend is awesome; I get LSS even now.

His candid shots after the show looked better. Catched him off guard! :)

Best of all, I felt his sincerity when he talked to the fans. That's something you don't see everyday. He took time to talk to them even with the short time they get to spend with him. I surely hope he'll come back for more... maybe a full concert in Araneta or something. Wouldn't that be neat?


Jinri Park even hosted the show. That was neat! She's pretty no?

Head's up summers here! But it's actually time to extinguish that craving with something more appropriate for the season and yes it'll be better because SWENSEN's is here!

Swensen's who opened their flagship store in Mall of Asia's South Wing now has something up their sleeves as they open their second branch which is just a stone's throw away from my office at the Eastwood City. It's in the Eastwood Mall's 2nd Floor Veranda; and I was so excited to get first dibs via the scoop off!

People in central Quezon City now have reason to rejoice as those sweet, creamy, dreamy concoctions are heading over to our area with the same AWESOME goodness Swensen's is known for the world over!

My hot afternoon got extinguished with this Snickers inspired sundae they call Snick-A-Choc. I was always fond of the candy and this was greatly represented by that. It didn't disappoint in the taste department because they obviously do not hold back in giving you the best ingredients. Most of these are imported and only a few fruits are locally sourced. They do not want to compromise quality and take pride in making your sundae experience the ULTIMATE one in each serving!

World class preparation, storage and ingredients from Swensen's. You can expect nothing less!

For cookie lovers, this one is highly recommended. This is part of their Chocolate Fantasy line called Oreo Cookies'n Cream. I've tasted this one in the past, its like a freshly dunked cookie made cold. =)

Your Maltesers just got even better on this one called Frosted Choc Malt Fantasy. Those round maltesers could be hiding in velvety chocolate ice cream so I'm sure you won't have any problems looking for it!

One of their signature sundaes called Strawberry, Banana and Cream for obvious reasons is a top seller. I love this one too! Who can resist fresh fruits in Ice Cream anyway!

For Waffle lovers, this basket sundae they call Crispy Cocktail would definitely be something you would go for if you like that fruit fix together with Ice Cream. Who says it can't be healthy? =)

Those things you miss when you were a kid and you thought you won't see it anymore. Care for a Banana Boat? Yes they have that kind of Sundae too.

If that version doesn't inspire you enough to have a weekend break with your kids maybe this Nutty Banana would make you feel a whole lot better!

It doesn't end there. They've got a whole lot of Sundaes and more in their menu that you haven't seen yet. If you don't think this is heavenly enough, try to stop what you are doing now and visit them at the 2nd Floor of the Eastwood Mall's Veranda and get your Swensen's fix. They are officially opening today, Saturday May 5, 2012. It's the best thing you'll ever do for your kids and loved ones. Weight Loss Mumblings

I haven't been working out for the longest time and I'm seeing things are not going quite well in the weight department. It seems I am piling up some pounds that I do not evidently need because the last thin we want to hear from our friends is a tap on the shoulder telling us how big we've gotten since the last time we've seen them. It's like an unconscious effort to humiliate us from the public or just plain and simple insulting us with the word fat. Congratulations!

I belong to a demographic of people who they call obese in executive checkups and it's not a welcome sight for what its worth. Although I have tried countless times to seek psychological and clinical help, the diet regimens just wouldn't work. If it weren't for my Physical Therapist who got me into the program again I would have considered lap band surgery or procedures like it. There is something called a Bariatric Advantage and that's what I've been trying to muster up since last year. I saw the results with some of my friends and the difference was quite evident. Everyone knows how it works and in my opinion it does wonders. I wish it was easy to have it done in my neighborhood though.

I might get to think about this procedure again soon. In the meantime I'll try what my doctor told me the last time we met. If I can still work out and shed some more in the next few months then I'll do just that. It isn't the end of the world after all. I would probably be better off this way because surgery is really something major. I don't want to do it if I'll just change my mind later on. I know it's not a small thing because it is a major operation. Would you undergo the same procedure if you were in my case? I want to stay good looking. Let me hear your thoughts!

Men should not despair as they also have their own set of shoes at the Sueño de Espadrilles store at the Podium Mall.

I personally like this one which is reminiscent of Moccasin shoes. Khakit pants + Blue Jacket, this would be a nice ensemble for that!

Well, I'm gonna make this short and sweet because there are tons of photos you need to see. Much of course of the newest fragrance of BENCH. If you think about what Richard Gutierrez exudes in all the roles he's played in TV and in the Movies, you might have different perspective on how he treats each challenge and adventure he encounters. With a very busy lifestyle and a passion for saving the environment, this nature lover surely has something up his sleeves when it comes to fragrances. It also means there's something for everyone as he executes this with a HIS and HERS version and named it GUTZ and GLORY!

BENCH CEO Ben Chan, Annabelle Rama, Eddie Gutierrez, Lorin and Venice were there to support Richard Gutierrez.

She wore this Orange number (not Red!)! Annabelle Rama looked fierce!

Eddie Gutierrez still looked good as the hearthrob he was, a lot of people wanted to take photos with him like a true matinee idol!

Gorgeous Ruffa Gutierrez wore an Avel Bacudio creation if I'm not mistaken. I kinda know most of the structured pieces he makes and this is probably one of them! Hugs the body so nicely, form fitting... it looks so good on her!

DJ David Callum provided music, of course he provided good looks that evening too to the enjoyment of the girls! =)

Then the show started!

Young, relaxed and preppy these guys came out with possibly what they will show this Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2012 collection. I guess the season calls for it. I have those exact same pants at home. I bought it last week from their OJ Americana line.

I think they are gearing towards light materials. The shirts are more on the Earthy side though. This change in color palette didn't veer away from a cooler shade. I wish there were bigger sizes but it might be just me who's calling for it haha! Oooh and I got some of those shoes too!

I adore these long sleeve shirts too. It's more on the trendy side because you can mix and match it weather for formal ones or just shorts. I love this bit!

And then he appeared!

He looks so classy in this coat and shirt. The whole ensemble is completed with classic pants from Bench. He's one heck of an endorser, it's his time to launch a new fragrance that men and women would absolutely love! The actual fragrance was formulated and made in Grasse, France so you are sure you get your money's worth. He's got input on choosing this too, so if you like Richard's taste it's time you get one of these GUTZ & GLORY!

Now that was quite a show LOL oops it's not over yet!

It looks like there's a second installment of this show. It now goes to something more appropriate in the evening. I love this, they are wearing coats and pants more for parties and things a guy wanna do when the time calls for it. Maybe picking up girls haha.

The cardigan tops and coats signify the time is a little cooler on holidays so there's a definite purpose there. The long sleeve shirts are nice. I love how they played with black and grays on this bit.

Even though it's on the dark shades it's still relaxed. I think they emphasized on comfort even as the season changed. I'm loving it!

Then Richard Gutierrez came out again! =)

Then the only ROSE among the thorns also strutted the runway...

After all that testosterone filled stage, she was a breather! She was HOT!

And it looks like Richard Gutierrez was happy! =)
