गुरु मंगल राम , स्मृति दंगल - एक जनवरी , २०१२. नए वर्ष के शुभ दिन पर , राम दल व्यायामशाला कमिटी रजी. द्वारा एक सुन्दर दंगल का आयोजन किदवई नगर में किया गया ! किदवई नगर में राम दल अखाडा है जिसमे गुरु विजय कुमार पहलवान जी , बच्चों को पहलवानी की विधा सिखाते है ! यहाँ पर कुछ बहुत अछे पहलवान जैसे पहले गढ़वाली रुस्तम रघुवीर सिंह बिष्ट , उमन पहलवान इत्यादि रहे ! जिन्होंने १९७१ और १९७२ में जापान में पदक लिए ! गढ़वाली- पहाड़ी लोगों में उनके बाद अभी तक कोई अच्छा रुस्तम न हुआ , अपने उत्तरांचली होने के बाद मैं भी कुछ ज्यादा न कर सका, और अपने अखाड़े का एक छोटा सा पहलवान ही रहा ! अपने पिता के जन्मदिवस पर , विजय कुमार जी ने कमेटी सदस्यों के सहयोग से इस शानदार दंगल का आयोजन किया ! यह पहलवानी में उनके तीसरी पीढ़ी है, उनके दादा गुरु बलराम जी ने १९५६ में इस अखाड़े की नींव रखी थी , फिर उनके पिता जी श्री मंगत राम और अब वे इस अखाड़े का संचालन कर रहे है, ! कुश्ती विधा को समर्पित इस प्रकार के निश्चल और निस्वार्थ सेवा कर रहे लोगों ने ही युगों -२ से पहलवानी इस अद्भुत कला और परंपरा को जीवित रखा है, ! हैरानी की बाद यह है की कई -२ युग बदले पर किसी न किसी तरह से पहलवानी की यह विधा अपने मूलभूत रूप में अभी भी जीवित है, और फल फूल रही है. ! दंगल में गुरु जसराम जी ने सबको आशीर्वाद दिए , और पहलवानों को हौसला अफजाई की , गुरु जी को आदर सहित पगड़ी पहनाई गई ! गुरु जी किसी भी प्रकार की दान दक्षिणा कभी नहीं लेते , और यदि कोई दे भी तो वो उसे पहलवानों के हित में लगाने का हुकम देकर लौटा देते है, इस बार भी उनको दी गई सम्मान राशी उन्होंने, विजेता पहलवानों में बांटने का हुकम दिया , वो हमेशा ही ऐसा करते है , पुरे हिन्दुस्तान को सैकड़ों - हजारों पहलवान दे चुके गुरु जी, दिल्ली में पहलवानों के श्रेष्ठ गुरु कहलाये जाते है! जयप्रकाश पहलवान , राजिंदर पहलवान, श्री पहलवान, गुरु रंगीला अखाडा के भूपेश कुमार पहलवान, हरपाल पहलवान, कुलही पुरिया प्रकाश पहलवान , खचेडू पहलवान जैसे कुश्ती की महान विभूतियों को समानित किया गया. पहलवानों ने शानदार कुश्तियां दिखा कर दर्शकों को मन्त्र मुग्ध कर दिया ! पहली कुश्ती विक्रम पहलवान गुरु जसराम और हरयाणा केसरी किरशन पहलवान के बीच हुई, समयाभाव के कारन कुश्ती को बराबर घोषित करना पड़ा. विजय कुंर जी ने सबका धन्यवाद कर दंगल का समापन किया थैंक्स दीपक अनुसूया

ENGLISH VERSION

Kidwai Nagar Akhara has been run by the same family for three generations. It was established by Guru Balram ji in 1956 and then his son Mangat Ram took over when he passed away. Now, the akhara is run by Guru Balram ji’s grandson, Guru Vijay Kumar. Kidwai Nagar Akhara has produced some great wrestlers over the years, like Raustam Raghubir Singh Bisht.

On New Year’s Day Guru Vijay Kumar, along with the Ram Dal Vyayaamshalaa committee, organized a dangal in honor of his late father. Many residents and shop owners of Kidwai Nagar also helped – an example of how the ancient sport of wrestling helps brings communities closer together in India.

The dangal committee invited Guru Jasram to be the chief guest and he was honored with pagri by Vijay Kumar ji. Sometimes the organizers try to give some money to the gurus for their hard work, but the gurus never take it for themselves. If they do accept, they donate it to the prize money so the wrestlers will benefit.

Among the other guests were veteran wrestlers Pandit Kulhi Puriya Prakash Pahalwan ji, Rajinder Pahalwan, Siri Pahalwan, Jai Prakash Pahlwan, Harpal Pahalwan, Bhupesh Pahalwan, Khalifa Khachedu.

The dangal started when the dirt pit was leveled and the ground was sanctified. Generally the younger wrestlers start things off so they have a chance to get some experience. Then the senior wrestlers compete.

A great wrestler named Bhola faced off against a wrestler named Ashish. Bhola nearly pinned Ashish three times, but it’s a little more difficult to get a pin in traditional Indian wrestling. A pin is called when both shoulders touch ground and the losing wrestler faces the sky. Finally, Bhola broke his opponent down and referee Ashok Pahwaln blew the whistle and called the pin.

In other matches, a wrestler named Parvesh from Guru Jasram Akhara pinned a local wrestler from Kidwai Nagar Akhara. Ravi of Guru Shyam lal Akhara (the son of Guru Harpal) won his match against a wrestler from Guru Ratan Akhara.

The first prize wrestling match was between two great wrestlers of India: Vikram Pahlwan of Guru Jasram and Krishan Pahalwan who is Haryana Kesari. Their bout was inaugurated by Guru Jasram. The match continued until the sun had set and was finally declared a draw.

HYDERABAD: Young lads who eagerly participated in the two-day wrestling tournament held at Barkas reflected the fondness for the sport still exists in the Old City. About 35 young boys, aged between 9 and 14, wrestled for the title of Hyderabad Bal Kesari at the event that concluded on Friday. The youngsters participated in the 35-40 kg weight category.

Hailing from different parts of the Old City, the young wrestlers are the gen-next torch bearers of the sport, say the organizers. However the boys say that they are in it purely for the love of the sport.

"I love cricket and football but it is wrestling that I would like to pursue as a career," says 13-year-old Usama Bamas. Bamas is aware of the hardship the sport involves. "We are made to train for three hours everyday. We are also advised to take care of diet, that essentially includes proteins, " he says.

Fourteen-year-old Abubakr bin Abdullah is another promising wrestler from Barkas. He says that wrestling is in his blood as the men in his family have been wrestlers. "Wrestling gives a thrill that other sports do not. Though there is risk of injury, I would not want to give it up," says Abubakr. When asked if wrestling allows for normal schooling, Abubakr laughs it off. "I am amongst the first five rankers in my class."

"At our akhada, we have about 50 children who are below the age of 14. Training has to start before the body loses its flexibility. Of the young wrestlers we have, at least 15 of them can make it big if they are given proper training," says Khaled Bamas, one of the organizers.

Eleven wrestlers have entered the individual round in Naga style wrestling at the two-day 19th annual sports meet (wrestling meet), 2012 of Northern Angami Sports Association (NASA) Group ‘C’, which began Tuesday at Zhadima village, organized by NASA ‘C’, hosted by Zhadima Youth & Sports Organization.

The wrestlers are Dietholhoulie (Phekerkriema), Kevizolie (Meriema), Kekhrieselie (Zhadi), Kekhriesilie (Zhadi) Dziesekhrietuo (Nerhe), Ravokhrieo (Nerhe), Mhasieletuo (Zhadi), Keneiletuo (Zhadi), Neilakholie (Zhadi), Thejasetuo (Meriema) and Ruokuosalie (Chüziema).
Altogether 44 wrestlers took part in the Naga style wrestling.

Declaring the wrestling meet open as chief guest, Minister for Higher Education and Urban Development, Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu said that the DAN government under the leadership of state chief minister, Neiphiu Rio was taking initiative to promote sports and music in the state. He called upon the youths to avail the opportunities.

He said that to be a good sportsperson, one must maintained strict discipline, take exercise regularly to keep fit and healthy to compete in sporting activities.

Talking about the traditional Naga wrestling, he said that no countries in the world expect in few parts of Sumatra and Brunei plays similar to the Tenyimia style of wrestling and called the associations involved in it to promote the game to higher level.

He went on to say that that the Tenyimias maintained a high standard of values in the field of socio- cultural heritage, traditions and even in traditional wrestling in past our fore-fathers fore-father were quite knowledgeable.

The minister also congratulated the NASA ‘C’ team led by Roko Angami for organizing the wrestling meet and wished the players and the meet a success. Upon his arrival he hosted the NASA ‘C’ flag.

In his address Roko Angami, president NASA ‘C’ disclosed that the selected wrestlers from the two-day meet will represent the NASA ‘C’ in the upcoming NASA Wrestling meet, scheduled in February.

Earlier KT Vilie, chairman, Zhadima Village Council welcomed the participants to Zhadima village and informed that 12 villages are taking in the two-day meet.

Rev. Thepfusalie Khoubve, Pastor AG Church, Zhadi Bawe seek God’s blessing followed by a special numbers by Neizelie Sorünuo and party and Ruokuovotuo Pfüsenuo. The oath to the players was administered by Razoukhrielie Khro, wrestling secretary NASA ‘C’.
The guest of honour on January 25 at 1 pm will be Kuolie Mere, Public Relations Officer (PRO), Nagaland House, New Delhi India.

Wrestling has long been part of Indian culture. At one time, every village, town and city had multiple akharas with gurus who taught the art of wrestling free of charge. The guru is sacred and he controls everything inside the akhara. According to Indian literature, the guru is higher than a god because the guru teaches about the gods.

Historically wrestlers were the most respected athletes and Pahalwan is still a revered title in India. But after independence cricket started to grow more popular and wrestling started to decline. Fewer parents sent their sons to learn wrestling and the number of akharas dwindled. But things are changing now. The recent success of famous athletes like Sushil Kumar has renewed interest in the sport and wrestling legends like Guru Hanuman, Guru Jasram, Guru Chandgi ram, Capt. Chandrup, etc., have helped keep wrestling alive.

Recently I went to Haryana to visit a beautiful akhara in a village called Palwal. There is a large dirt wrestling pit in the center and a mat for freestyle and Greco-roman wrestling off to the side. There’s also a very nice temple and several rooms where the wrestlers sleep. The village itself is set amid lush farmland. It’s a very peaceful and picturesque place.

When I reached the akhara Guru Samandar welcomed us and showed great warmth and hospitality. Guru Samandar started the akhara about 15 years ago. And he had learned wrestling in his youth from Bharat Kesari Guru Leelu Pahalwan of village Lalpura. Guru Leelu Pahalwan had a famous bout long ago with Guru Chandgi ram ji in which the wrestled to a draw. Guru Samandar told me that he has loved kushti since childhood. He purchased the piece of land for the akhara and constructed the temple so that wrestlers could worship the Lord Hanuman. The government has done very little to support the akhara and one of the problems they face is lack of information regarding major competitions.

Guru Samandar said that all the wrestlers get food from home. Their families are poor farmers and work hard to provide things like almonds and milk which are staples in the wrestlers’ diet. If a wrestler can’t afford to buy food, Guru Samandar chips in from his own pocket, even though he, himself, is a farmer without much money. Such is the devotion a guru shows to his akhara.

One of the best things about visiting akharas is that the gurus, coaches and wrestlers have always welcomed me like an old friend and I am deeply thankful to all of them for that. By telling their stories I hope people become more aware of their hard work and sacrifice and I hope wrestling will continue to grow in India.

JAMMU: Wrestler Benia of Jammu and Kashmir Police lifted the 112th edition of the Panthal Kesari Dangal title after he downed Amit Kumar of Guru Hanuman Akhara Delhi in six minutes in the main bout that was played at Panthal in district Reasi.
Benia was presented Rs 8,000 cash reward and traditional `Silver Gurj and Patta’ by eminent writer, Prof Shiv Nirmohi and President J and K Indian Style Wrestling Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma. Runners-up, Amit got Rs 7,000 as cash prize.
This Dangal is organised every year on Makar Sankranti by the Association by inviting wrestlers from Northern Indian states.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer Katra, Pushker Nath Tikoo, SHO Katra Pardeep Kumar Gupta, retired SP, Prithvi Raj Sharma retired Tehsildar, Bansi Lal Tidyal were guests of honour.
Sarpanch Sham Singh, Bansi Lal, Rajinder Kumar, Suresh Kumar and Jagdish Sharma were also present. They all were honoured by the Shri Swami Nitya Nand Dangal Committee Panthal.
In this day-long event, about 57 bouts took place. In the second main bout Sagar of Delhi defeated Bhurra of Pathankot to get a cash prize of Rs 6,000. Runners-up, Bhurra received Rs 5,000.
The third main bout was won by Goga of Amritsar beating Qasim Din (Billu) of J and K Police while fourth bout went to Sukhchinder of Amritsar, who beat Surinder of Delhi.
Other Bouts: Kala of Assar beat Anuj of Delhi; Jagroop of Delhi beat Kaka; Gulshan of JKP beat Bhalla of Amritsar, Kaka of Pathankot beat Johny of Amirtsar; Babbi of Pathankot beat Jagroop Ali of Dena Nagar; Mukha beat Guchanran; Inderjeet of Delhi beat Sukha of Amritsar; Kuldeep Singh of Bhumag beat Bodh Raj of Dena Nagar and Billu (Jakker) of Jindrah beat Hussain of Reasi.
Meanwhile, President of the Association, Shiv Kumar Sharma thanked those individuals and departments who extended a helping hand in making the event a success.

Benia wins 112th Panthal Kesari Dangal

Wrestler Benia of the state police and a resident of Basantgarh in Udhampur district lifted the 112th annual Panthal Kesari Dangal title outplaying Amit of Delhi, in a closely fought contest that lasted for 15 minutes at Panthal in Reasi district today.

Benia was adjudged the best wrestler in the vishal dangal organised by the Shri Swami Nitya Nand Wrestling Association, Panthal, in collaboration with the J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association.

The winner of the first bout, Benia, was given a cash prize of Rs 11,000, in addition to traditional silver gurj and patta by chief guest and president of the J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association Shiv Kumar Sharma.

Runners-up Mool Chand got a cash prize of Rs 5,000. Prof Shiv Nirmohi was the guest of honour on the occasion.

Panthal Kesari Dangal is being organised regularly for the last 112 years on Makar Sakranti with the active cooperation of locals from Panthal, Katra, Udhampur, Jammu, Manoon, Bhagata, Kunya, Chak-Bhagta and other areas.

In all, 54 bouts were played in the day-long dangal. In the second main bout, wrestler Sagar of Delhi beat Pura of Pathankot (Punjab). They won cash prizes of Rs 6,000 and Rs 5,000, respectively. The third bout was played between Goga and Billa, which was won by Goga.

More than three hundred men will showcase their sturdily inspired ‘dav-pech’ in the Kushti Dangal, which started in Gandhi Ground Udaipur today.
350 professional wrestlers from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are going to take part in this famed traditional wrestling competition.
The competition is divided into 5 categories, viz. Mewar Malwa Basant, Mewar Malwa Kishore, Rajasthan Madhya Pradesh Kumar, Mewar Malwa Kumar and Rajasthan Madhya Pradesh Kesari.
The winners of the competition will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 1 Lakh, 3 Silver replicas of work out tools and the title band.
The 3-Day event is organized by the committee of legendry wrestler Ustad Laxman Singh, the 23rd Mewar Malwa Dangal Kesari was inaugurated today on 13th January at Gandhi Ground by Rajni Dangi (Chairman Municipal Council, Udaipur) and the Chief Guest for the function were Raj Bihari Chaturvedi and Prof. I.V Trivedi.
Arjun Rajwa, the Secretary of Laxman Singh Pehlwan Srimiti Samiti said, “We have created the wrestling ring with the International norms, i.e. 12/12 meter, beside this the preparation of this competition was going on since months; we hope it will be a great success.”
This is the first time that such a large scale wrestling event is being organized in the Gandhi ground.
Obviously with greater capacity, Gandhi Ground will be able to entertain a large of number of wrestling enthusiasts in this competition.

The Guru Shyamlal Akhara Dangal Committee organized a great dangal in remembrance of Guru Shyamlal of Kale Khoji Wale on Dec. 4, sponsored by Pataka Tea. The venue was Hanuman Temple, Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi. The committee also unveiled a statue of Guru Shyamlal and many great Indian wrestling personalities paid tribute.

Among the guests were: cricketer Chetan Sharma, Deputy Mayor of Delhi Anil Sharma, President of Delhi BJP Pawan Sharma, Maha Singh Rao ji of Guru Hanuman Akhara, and gurus from various akharas like Guru Munni Akhara, Guru Chandgi Ram Akhara, Jama Masjid akhara, etc.

Advertisements for the dangal were posted around Delhi, and wrestlers from all over Delhi, NCR and neighbouring states were invited to participate. The president of Guru Shyamlal Dangal Committee, Dilip Chawaria ji invited me to cover the dangal and I am very much grateful to him.

The committee members were: Suraj Pahalwan, Pratap Pahalwan, Ramesh Pradhaan, Rakesh Sood, Ashok Kala. The kid wrestlers from guru munni akhada presented very good wrestling matches and people liked them very much.

All the dignitaries, referees, gurus, and coaches including me and my friends were welcomed and were presented with gifts and pagri.

The matches were inaugurated by all the wrestling dignitaries in order to encourage wrestlers, and good cash prizes were distributed.

Midway through the competition there were exhibitions of women’s freestyle wrestling inaugurated by Deepika Kaliraman, and there was also a yoga demonstration.

Car market leader Maruti Suzuki, known more as a small car manufacturer, is trying to wrestle into a new space.
First came the compact multi-purpose vehicle, a concept of which it showcased at the last auto expo. It will launch this vehicle, named the Ertiga, at the expo tomorrow. Today, it showcased the concept of a compact sport utility vehicle codenamed XA Alpha, for which the company said it had drawn cues from the martial art of wrestling.
The Lava Red colour of the concept on display was derived from the aura of Indian wrestling — “the feel and colour of mud, the passion, the power and the confidence of wrestlers is depicted in the striking bright colour,” said Mr I.V. Rao, Managing Executive Officer – Engineering, Maruti Suzuki. Passenger car customers now aspired for an SUV type vehicle without the large size of the traditional SUVs.
That is why Maruti Suzuki decided on this concept, explained company officials. Mr Rao said the design team's mandate was to come up with a vehicle that would be experimental in design and rugged to withstand the extreme usage.

अपने सब प्रतिद्वंदियों को पछाड़ कर मौसम खत्री हिंद केसरी की दावेदारी थोक चुके थे, उन्हें इस पद का उचित दावेदार माना जा रहा था , पिछले साल हिंद केसरी रह चुके मौसम अब अखाड़े में अपना करतब दिखने आ पहुंचे , दर्शको ने शोर मचा कर उनका स्वागत किया , उन पर सबकी निगाहे थी ! इसी प्रकार रोहित पटेल अपने सब प्रतिद्वंदियों को रौंदते हुए मौसम के सामने आ डटे ! श्री अंजन कुमार यादव जी द्वारा कुश्ती का उदघाटन किया गया ! और दोनों पहलवानों ने कुश्ती शुरू की ! दोनों पहलवान बराबरी के थे , सो एक दुसरे की तरफ देखते , अपना बैलेंस बना दुसरो को धकेलते, जोर लगा नीचे बैठाने की कोशिश करते , या एक दुसरे पर झपट पड़ते , दर्शक सांस रोके मुकाबले को देख रहे थे , कभी मौसम जोर लगाता तो रोहित उसे धकेल दे कर छुड़ा लेता, कभी रोहत बिजली की तरह झपटा तो चीते की तरह मौसम उसकी कैद से निकल भागता मध्यांतर तक कोई भी पहलवान एक भी अंक न बना सका , मध्यांतर के बाद कुश्ती और तेज हो गई समय गुजरता रहा था जब २-३ मिनट शेष थे तो रोहित ने अटैक किया , मौसम ने बचाव , दोनों अखाड़े में गिर पड़े दर्शकों की आवाज बैठ गई , सुई भी गिरे तो आवाज हो पर किसी को एक न मिला इस पर मौसम ने रोहित को बैठा उसके पीछे पहुँच अंक लेने की कोशिश की पर रोहित कहाँ काछी मिटटी का बना था फूर्ती से बचाव कर मौसम के पीछे पहुँच एक अंक प्राप्त किया और बढ़त ली , समय न था , अब मौसम के लिए करो या मरो का सवाल था सो उसने अटैक लगाया , रोहित को बाजुओं में भर , तंग में तंग फंसा उलटी लगाने के प्रयास किया ,रोहित पहले से तैयार था सो उसने बचाव कर मौसम पर अपना दांव फेंका और मौसम चारों खाने चित्त जा पड़ा , रोहित पटेल ने विजय हुंकार भरी और वर्ष २०११ का हिंद केसरी तय हुआ ! पैतालिस्वें हिंद केसरी टाइटल प्रतियोगिता में उत्तरांचल के टीम ने भी भाग लिया जिसमे सत्यवान पहलवान ९४ + वजन में द्वितीय रहे उन्हें अपनी उम्र से दुगने , व् वजनी नाड पहलवान से पराजय का मुंह देखना पड़ा , कुल मिलकर सारा स्टेडियम सत्यवान के पक्ष में था , पर अंत में नाड को सफलता मिली ! सत्यवान पहलवान को भी ढेरो शुभकामनाये , श्री अंजन कुमार यादव जी, जगदीश कालीरमण व् कृपा शंकर पहलवान ! कुश्ती के इतिहास में सम्माननीय संसद सदस्य अंजन कुमार यादव जी को कभी न भुलाया जाएगा ! उनकी अपार लगन, कठिन परिस्श्रम और दंगल के लिए धन जुटाने के कारण वे पहलवानों के शिरोधार्य बने ! देश भर के पहलवानों को प्रतियोगिता के लिए बुलावा देना , पुराने पहलवानों को सम्मान के लिए बुलाना , और दूरदर्शन के लिए कमेंटरी देने पर मई जगदीश पहलवान और किरपा शंकर पहलवान का तहे दिल शुक्रिया अदा करता हूँ जिनकी कठोर लगन और परिश्रम ने दंगल में चार चाँद लगा दिए ! कुश्ती कला की इन महान विभूतियों के अथक परिणाम स्वरुप आज कुश्ती का निखर हुआ उजला स्वरुप सामने आ रहा है ! धन्यवाद दीपक अनुसूया प्रसाद

ENGLISH VERSION:

Mausam Khatri was the defending Hind Kesari champion, so all eyes were on him. Hi opponent, Rohit Patel was a great wrestler, so this was boun to be an exciting match. Hon M.P Anjan Yadav ji and other dignitaries inaugurated the bout.

The crowed was equally divided between supporters of Mausam Khatri and Rohit Patel fans. The match was also broadcast live by DD sports channel and Hyderabad Doordarshan Kendra. So the whole country was waiting to see who would take the Hind Kesari title. The match was divided into two six-minute rounds, with a short rest period in between. In the first round, neither wrestler managed to score a single point.

The wrestling became more intense in the second round. There crowd grew more excited as each wrestler attempted takedowns. Suddenly Mausam Khatri attacked, but Rohit Patel defended well and scored one point.

Finally, Mausam Khatri shot a takedown, but Rohit Patel turned the attack to his advantage and pinned the defending champion. The crowd went wild. It was a bit of history in the making because the first Hind Kesari from MP, a wrestler named Ramchander, was in the audience to see Rohit Patel’s great victory.

When the event ended there was chaos all around people were running here and there to greet the winning wrestlers. In the midst of the chaos, the awards were given to the wrestlers: cash prizes, scooters, bikes etc. Shree Anjan Kumar Yadav ji thanked everyone who participated for making the 45th Hind Kesari such a great success and declared the championship over.

गुरशरण प्रीत कौर और अंशु तोमर, दर्शकों की करतल ध्वनि और हर्षातिरेक के साथ अंजन कुमार यादव जी ने मैच का उदघाटन किया , ताकत की देवी गुरुशरण ने मैच के आरम्भ में ही बदह्त ले ली , अंजू तोमर की एक न चली , उसने भरसक प्रयत्न किये लेकिन गुरशरण ने एक भी मौका न दिया ! आज अंशु तोमर का दिन न था भरसक प्रयत्न के बाद भी वो मध्यांतर तक एक भी अंक न बना सकी उधर ढेर सारे अंक बटोरकर गुरशरण मैच को लगभग आपने पाले में कर चुकी थी ! मध्यांतर के बाद भी मैच का रुख एकतरफा रहा गुरशरण ने अंशु तोमर को अखाड़े के चारों और पटका और अंशु तोमर केवल बचाव भर कर पाई, मैच के आखिरी क्षणों में गुरुशरण ने अंशु तोमर को धराशाई कर बाई फाल चित्त किया इसी समय टेक्नीकल पॉइंट्स भी उनके पक्ष में थे सो उन्हें विजेता घोषित किया गया ! लोगों का हुज्जूम गुरशरण -२ चिल्ला रहा था , सो उन्होंने सबके सम्मान में अखाड़े का एक चक्कर लगाया पर दर्शक कान्हा मानते थे , .. प्रतियोगिता के आरम्भ में जब गुरशरण बहन से मुलाकात हुई तो मैंने उन्हें हंसमुख शांत मिजाज , मिलन सार परविरिती से भरपूर गुणों की महिला के रूप में पाया और शुभकामनाएं दी , ठीक इसी प्रकार अंशु तोमर भी, दोनों की कुश्ती हिंद केसरी टाइटल में आ गई , हजारों लाखों लोगों, लाइव टेलीविजन , और झूमते दर्शकों बीच कुश्ती को तारणहार माननीय संसद सदस्य अंजन कुमार यादव जी द्वारा कुश्ती का उद्घाटन और आरम्भ किया गया ! कुश्ती के आरम्भ से से ही गुरुशरण ने बढ़त ले ली , अंशु तोमर की एक न चली मध्यांतर तक गुरुशरण काफी अंक पाकर बढ़त ले चुकी थी ! अंशु तोमर डिफेंसिव खेलते हुए चल रही थी उन्होंने अटैक लगाया पर गुरुशरण ने बचाव कर उन्हें धराशाई कर दिया , तकनीकी आधार पर जीत चुकी गुरुशरण ने अंशु को चित्त कर दिया , ठीक इसी समय मैट ओफ़िसिअल्स ने उन्हें विजेता घोषित कर दिया और रेफरी ने विजय सिटी बजा कर मैच गुरशरण की झोली में दाल दिया ! लोग झूम उठे , अपार खुशिया , हर्ष और उल्लास से स्टेडियम गूंजने लगा , गुरुशरण ने दर्शको का हाथ हिलाकर अभिवादन किया , लोग उनकी एक झलक पाने को तत्पर थे, अतः उन्होंने पास खड़े दर्षकों के पास जाकर अखाड़े का एक चक्कर लगाया और लोगों के अभिवाद्दन सप्रेम स्वीकार किये , अंजन यादव जी द्वारा हर्ष ध्वनि के साथ उन्हें गुर्ज और इनाम भेंट किया गया ! इस प्रकार कुश्ती के इतिहास में पहली बार गुरुशरण महिला हिंद केसरी बन कर , कुश्ती के अध्याय में एक सुनहरा पन्ना जोड़ गई !

Girls matches were magnificent. A wrestler from Andhra, Aishrwaya won on points, Anshu Tomar pinned her opponent. Then came Gurusharan and her opponent was no match for her. She simply pinned her and qualified for quarterfinals. Satyavart a budding young wrestler fought beautifully, Rajni Bisht went on to winning spree but was stopped by Gurusharan at semifinals. Summer from Delhi and Priyanka competed in 51kg final. Sumer took a lead of two points. The match continued for the full allotted time and Summer as declared the winner. Gursharan Preet Kaur and Anshu Tomar need no introduction in kushti circles. They both are on the top spot at women wrestling competitions. With much fanfare the bout started. Gurusharan attacked and Anshu played defense. Then Anshu decided to attack but Gurusharan pin her. She was declared the first women’s Hind Kesari. It was a moment of pride for all women of India, for Lal Bahadur stadium, and the people who witnessed the event.

प्रारंभिक राउंड्स महिला कुश्तियों में , गुरशरण कौर, अंजू तोमर, रजनी बिष्ट, ऐश्वर्या पहवानो ने शानदार अंदाज में जीत दर्ज की ! गुरुशरण और अंशु तोमर के लिए तो प्रारम्भिक कुश्तिया महज दिखावा मात्र थी उनके प्रतिद्वंदी उनके सामने न टिक सके, वही आंध्र के ऐश्वर्या ने शानदार जीत दर्ज की. रजनी बिष्ट की कुश्ती कला को लोगों ने खूब सराहा ! रोहित कुमार , देवी सिंह, रोशन, मौसम खत्री , क्रिशन, नाद, सत्यवर्त, गोटी आदि पहलवानों ने शानदार कुश्ती कला का पर्दर्शन कर दर्शकों को मत्रमुग्ध कर दिया ! सेमिफाइंल्स अगले दिन ज्यों ज्यों कुश्तियां होती गई अछे पहलवान रण में जीतते रहे और कम्जूर पहलवान हारते रहे दिन के अंत तक देश भर के अछे पहलवान फ़ाइनल के लिए अपनी कुश्ती कला दिखाने के लिए चुन लिए गए ! कई वर्षों के बाद आंध्र के निवासियों इतने रोमांचक , लोमहर्षक , मनोरंजक खेल को देखने का saubhagya paaya था , उनकी खुशियों की सीमा न थी ! अपने अपने पसंदीदा पहलवानों के लिए वाई तालियाँ बजाते , चीखते चिल्लाते, और जीत की खुशिया मनाते , न्यूज़ और मीडिया के लोगों के उत्साह का ठिकाना न था , दिन भर खड़े रह कर , भूखे प्यासे रहकर कुश्तियों को कवर करते , उन्हें जरा भी मलाल न था, आखिर इतनी शानदार घटना और कहाँ कवर करने को मिलती ? फाइनल्स खेलों के आखिरी दिन की शाम फाइनल्स के नाम थी , मौसम खत्री रोहित पटेल , गुरुशरण, देवी सिंह, सत्यवर्त, नाद, अंशु तोमर, क्रिशन, हितेश, अभिमन्यु जैसे पहलवान दावेदारी के लिए तैयार थे

स्टेडियम के बीचों बीच दो अखाड़े सजे थे , जिन पर लाल मिटटी अतीव शोभायमान थी , पहलवानों की यह समरभूमि ऐतिहासिक कुरुक्षेत्र के मैदान में हुए रण की यादों को लौटा रही थी जिसको हिन्दुस्तान के सर्वश्रेष्ट महाराथायों ने अपने रक्त से रंजित किया था ! अखाड़े के ठीक सामने अतिथियों के लिए मंच सजा था, जिस पर सभी माननीय अतिथि गन अपना -२ स्थान ग्रहण कर चुके थे, उनके दोनों पक्ष में विशिष्ट लोगों के बैठने की व्यस्था थी , अखाड़े के चरों ओर लोहे की रेलिंग थी जिसे भीतर मत रेफरी और अन्य ओफ़्फ़िसिअल्स अपने अपने स्थान पर नियत थे . अखाड़े में सभी राज्यों के पहलवान अपने परिधान पहने अपने राज्यों के ध्वजों के साथ मार्च पास्ट के लिए बैठे थे , एक तरफ कुछ बालाएं भारत नाट्यम का अभ्यास कर रही थी, जिसका आयोजन उदघाटन समारोह का मुख्य आकर्षण था ! दूरदर्शन, मीडिया, समाचार पत्रों से आये बीसियों पत्रकार अपने अपने कैमरों और अन्य यंत्रों के साथ समारोह को कैद करने के लिए आतुर थे, तभी मुक्य मंत्री रेड्डी साहब का शुभ आगमन हुआ, उन्होंने दर्शकों को संबोधित किया , फिर अंजन यादव जी नि, मुख्या मंत्री ने बीस लाख रूपये का चेक आयोजन समिती को भेंट किया , फिर मार्च पास्ट आरम्भ हुआ, उसके ठीक बाद, भरतनाटयम का शानदार पर्दर्शन हुआ , सब विस्मृत से नृत्य की इस महान कला को देख आनंद विभोर हो उठे , तत्पश्चात मुख्या मंत्री महोदय ने खेलो के आरंभ की घोषणा की और प्राम्भिक रौंद के मच आरम्भ हुए !

The stadium was now ready. There was a big stage for special guests and an enclosure for VIPs. Musicians were stationed beside this area and three platforms were set up for electronic media. In front, were desks for referees, the announcers, and other mat officials. As the opening ceremony began, school marched past the stage carrying signs of all the participating states. The announcer introduced participants and the chief minister unfurled the flag and gave a speech. Sh. Anjan Kumar Yadav spoke next and after we saw a beautiful display of traditional Indian dance: bharat naatayam. The chief minister then declared the games open, and the qualifying matches got started.

45th Hind Kesari - Hyderabad Gets Ready for Big Event

I was invited to cover the 45th Hind Kesari in Hyderabad, by Hon. Member of Parliament Shri Anjan Kumar Yadav ji, a great former wrestler who works hard to promote the wrestling by organizing this great event. His secretary, Mr. Narsingh Rao, arranged for my journey from Delhi.

Traveling with me were 250-300 wrestlers and many gurus as well. Bhagat Singh a veteran wrestler from guru Hanuman Akhara who has won the Hind Kesari title 3 times along with many other honors was traveling with me on the train. I told him about my work on traditional Indian wrestling and we became friends.

When we reached Hyderabad, Jagdish Kaliraman, a past winner of the prestigious Hind Kesari title was busy making sure everyone arrived safely and got to their hotels. He also arranged my trip, for which I am very much thankful. Jagdish ji met us at the station and brought us to our hotel. I ended up sharing a room with Bhagat Singh, which was great - he’s a very amiable fellow.

The next day we made our way to the stadium where weigh-ins were taking place before the start of the tournament. When we came out of the hotel, we saw that all of Hyderabad was abuzz. Everywhere we could see posters promoting the dangal, pamphlets, big wooden placards, even wood cutouts before the famous Char Minar. Railway stations, bus stands, and on walls throughout the city, there were signs of the event.

When we entered the stadium, the sun was shining as the wrestling arena was being constructed with bricks and cement. It was two-and-a-half feet high and was being made in two sections, so two matches could be wrestled simultaneously. Red clay was brought in and was laid in the wrestling area. There were giant drums, iron and wooden railings, chairs, tents. Microphones were being installed and security personnel were settling in.

What a huge event! I was sure it would be remembered for years and years to come.

The Holy Art of Indian Wrestling

Delhi is not renowned for its light and space. Nor for its healthy living. Nonetheless, this morning, I’m kicking a ball around with a bunch of large, muscular men on the open, grassy banks of the Yamuna River, the Indian capital’s main waterway.

The sun is casting a magical play of rising light and the air is almost fresh. Every few minutes, a new powerfully built man appears and our football match slowly takes on the image of a playful 20-a-side brawl.

As each man arrives a curious thing happens – they humbly touch the feet of the biggest man there. Jagdish Kaliraman should have a picture of himself in the dictionary next to the word ‘big’. When you stand beside him his shadow seems to block out the sun. As each man touches Kaliraman’s feet they gaze up in awe. At 6feet 2 inches and 16 stone, it’s easy to understand why. Moreover, Kaliraman is a Guru, a teacher held in the highest esteem. These men are mud-wrestlers and Kaliraman is the champion of one of the sub-continent’s oldest sports.

45th हिंद केसरी टाइटल - संस्मरण -1

माननीय संसद सदस्य श्री अंजन कुमार यादव जी , जो एक अनन्य कुश्ती प्रेमी है, स्वयं भी एक अछे पहलवान रह चुके है , और आज कुश्ती खेल की दरिद्र अवस्था में भामाशाह की तरह कुश्ती पर तन मन धन अर्पण किये हुए है ऐसे महान व्यक्ति के बुलावे पर 45th हिंद केसरी टाइटल के लिए हैदराबाद जाना स्वीकार किया !

स्टेशन पर पहुंचा तो गाडी ३ घंटे देरी से चलने का मन बना चुकी थी, यूँ भी सरकारी गाड़ी है सोचा उन्हें क्या आफत पड़ी है , जब सरकारी ही सुस्त पड़ी है तो गाडी क्यों न थोड़ी देर सुस्ता ले ! पर मन कहाँ मान रहा था , चंचल मनः कृष्ण , वह तो हैदराबाद पहुँच चूका था, दिमाग के छोटे से हिस्से में एक बड़ा स्टेडियम और उसमे बने एक अखाड़े में पहलवानों का द्वन्द शुरू हो चूका था, २४ डिब्बों की ट्रेन में हम लगभग 250 -300 पहलवान और सम्बंधित लोग बैठे थे ! औसतन 20 -25 आदमी एक डिब्बे में , इस प्रकार सारे भारत से लोगों को निमंत्रण था , यूँ लगता था देश भर के पहलवान , गुरु खलीफा , और कुश्ती प्रेमी हैदराबाद की ओर बढे चले आ रहे हैं ! देर रात हैदराबाद पहुंचे , स्टेशन पर पूर्व हिंद केसरी जगदीश पहलवान आगंतुकों को रिसीव कर रहे थे , दिल्ली से लेकर हैदराबाद तक दंगल की सुचारू व्यवस्था के लिए वह दिलो जान से जुटे थे ! स्टेशन पर सबके लिए वाहनों की व्यवस्था थी अतः सब सज्जनों को होटल तक पहुँचाया गया ! गुरु हनुमान अखाड़े से आये भगत सिंह पहलवान , जो की स्वयं भी तीन बार के हिंद केसरी रह चुके है , और ढेरों अन्य पुरस्कार जीत चुके है, उनके साथ ही दिल्ली से चला था , अतः स्टेशन पर भी साथ -२ हो लिए , होटल पहुँचने पर एक ही कमरे में दो लोगों की व्यस्था थी , सो वहां भी साथ रहने का निर्णय लिया ! वहीँ पर सभी आगंतुकों के लिए बुफ्फेट का इंतजाम था , सो आते ही हैदराबाद की मशहूर बिरयानी के दर्शनों का सौभाग्य मिला ! अगले दिन पहलवानों के लिए वजन होने थे , सो दोनों स्टेडियम की ओर चल पड़े ! हैदराबाद शहर दंगल के कट आउट , पोस्टर , पर्चों से सराबोर था, हर चौक चौराहे पर बड़े बड़े कट आउट लगे थे जिससे दंगल की भव्यता का अंदाजा लगाया जा सकता था ! स्टेडियम पहुँचने पर देखा तैयारियां चल रही थी , मैदान के बीचो बीच ईंटो की पक्की दीवार से अढाई फुट अखाडा बनाया जा रहा था जिसमे मिटटी भरी जा रही थी , सुरमई लाल रंग की मिटटी फोटो ग्राफी में अलग ही प्रभाव दिखाती है, देश के बड़े नेताओं के विशाल कट आउट खड़े किये जा रहे थे , स्टेडियम के छतों पर विशाल गुब्बारों में दंगल की सुचना लहरा -२ कर पुरे हैदराबाद को रोमांचित कर रही थी, अखाड़े से कुछ दुरी पर मुख्य अतिथियों के लिए एक विशाल मंच तैयार किया जा रहा था ! व् उसके बराबर २- अन्य गणमान्य व्यक्तियों के लिए, इलेक्ट्रोनिक मीडिया, दूरदर्शन , इत्यादि के लिए भी अखाड़े के ३ तरफ चौकियां तैयार की जा रही थे , अर्ध सैनिक बालों की टुकडियां अपने दैत्याकार ट्रकों से उतर रही थी ! विशाल ढोलक , ढोल , इलेक्ट्रोनिक संगीत वाध्य , टेंट सामग्री , लोहे की रैलिंग्स, जैसे धीरे धीरे अपना स्थान पा रही थी ! व्यवस्था का जायजा ले कर, बाहर निकले तो हमने हैदराबाद शहर घूमने का निर्णय लिया ! इसी बीच बदायूं के हरबंस पहलवान जिन्होंने हाल में ही उत्तर परदेश केसरी दंगल करवाया है, और उनके गुरु पंडित सत्यनारायण जी से भी मुलाकात हुई और सभी हैदराबाद की चार मीनार की ओर चल दिए !
