href="http://us.adder.com/">Adder, a leader in KVM extender products, has recently released the LPV150 digital signage extender system. This attractively priced, point-to-multipoint video extender is capable of delivering full HD 1080p video over distances of 150 meters (500 feet) via CAT5 ports, then plug an ALPV150R single point video extension receiver into your display. The two units are connected by a length (up to 500 feet) of CATx cable. That's it. This simple plug and play video extension system has you delivering your targeted digital message in no time flat.
These non-intrusive hardware-based solutions allow both in-band and out-of-band access to all servers connected to the KVM over IP switch. With advanced security across all operating systems, remote access via WAN/LAN includes pre-boot functions such as editing CMOS settings and power cycling your servers.

Top Considerations When Evaluating KVM over IP Switches
When deciding which KVM over IP solution is right for any data center application, carefully consider the following:

What expansion options, for both users and servers, does this KVM switch offer?

Are there any cable length limitations?

How much additional cabling will be required?

Does the KVM switch require coax cable, single or dual CAT5, or fiber optic? Some KVM over IP solutions offer more than one cabling option. Cable type is an important feature when considering cost and ease of installation.

Does the KVM switch offer multi-platform support? For non-PC environments, does the KVM perform keyboard mapping or allow native keyboard support?

Does the KVM over IP device offer enough security for a particular installation?

Does the KVM offer any sort of redundancy to protect against failure? How would a failure of any of the KVM switches components affect the servers and user's ability to control them?

How is KVM extension handled?

Does the KVM offer both IP and in-band options?

What are the KVM switch's power cycling options?

Are there specific space constraints in the current data center environment?

Temperature Monitoring
Probably the most widely monitored metric, proper operating temperature plays a crucial role in server availability and up-time. When a cooling failure happens, it does not take long for temperatures to rise and mission-critical equipment to fail. With real-time monitoring, IT professionals can be instantly alerted via e-mail, audible alarm, or other advanced alarm notification system to take immediate action.

Humidity Monitoring
While temperature is closely watched, humidity is often over looked in the server room. Of concern to IT managers are dry conditions that can lead to a build up of static electricity, as well as overly humid conditions that can lead to condensation buildup. To combat electrostatic discharge, cooling systems often add moisture to the conditioned air. Add too much water vapor, though, and IT equipment will collect condensation that may lead to rust and electrical shorts. Real-time monitoring can provide IT professionals and facility managers the information to get the balance right.

Fluid Detection
Little needs to be said about the dangers that fluids pose to IT equipment, yet many small server rooms ignore this ever present danger. Safe from flooding on the third floor? Not from the burst pipe on the fourth. Properly placed fluid detection systems can provide advanced warning of liquid infiltration, allowing ample time for mission-critical systems to be protected.

Security/Intrusion Monitoring
Physical security is paramount to any serious data security program. Beyond external building security, server rack intrusion detection and server floor monitoring offer another level of security that is just as important as firewalls and virus protection. If an intruder can physically access the servers, no data is safe. Intrusion detection systems and camera monitoring solutions can provide another deterrent to data and equipment theft.

Server Room Monitoring Available for All Budgets
Stand-alone sensors need not require huge initial investments and can actually reduce IT expense in the long run when the replacement cost for expensive server room equipment is taken into account. Moreover, many of today's state of the art server room monitoring systems do not need additional computer hardware or software systems and can often be integrated into existing building management and network monitoring systems.

SynapSense Active Control Data Center Cooling Software

Data center monitoring is an integral part of managing any server room. Beyond monitoring though, efficient use of cooling resources is critical to reducing data center operating costs and effectively managing IT capacity changes. To help data center professionals with this critical task, SynapSense has recently released a new software package which, when combined with SynapSense wireless sensors, affords IT managers the fine grain control over cooling resources that today's energy efficient data centers demand.

SynapSense's new Active Control automated data center cooling software monitors server room cooling needs by tracking server inlet temperature and sub-floor pressure differentials via the wireless sensors. Using this data, Active Control dynamically adjusts CRAH (Computer Room Air Handler) temperature set points and fan speeds to meet changing IT demand loads. This dynamic approach to controlling data center cooling can dramatically reduce server room energy costs up to 30%.
Data centers, health care facilities, universities, and clean rooms take advantage of the sophisticated leak detection technologies to protect mission-critical infrastructure from water leaks and other conductive fluids such as alcohol and glycol.

The ultra durable sensing cable is easy to clean, fast drying, and resists damage from most contaminants. The cable’s abrasion-resistant polymer core increases its strength and durability while the use of non-conductive polymers help eliminate false alarms.

When connected to a SeaHawk single- or multi-zone controller, the sensing cable detects the presence of water in each zone and indicates which zone is in alarm. When connected to a SeaHawk distance read controller, the sensing cable can pinpoint the actual location of the leak along the cable route saving critical time in locating the source of the leak.

Sensing cable is available in standard and custom lengths. Each end of the cable contains mating connectors to make installation and expansion of existing leak detection systems quick and easy. RLE’s sensing cable offers a reliable leak detection solution that mitigates potential water damage, costly business outages, and downtime.

Proven leak detection and data center monitoring solutions by RLE Technologies now at 42U.

New DVI Switches from SmartAVI

Now available on KVM Switches Online! "We just heard the unfortunate news about the 6.1 magnitude aftershock that hit Haiti this morning. There is no time to lose in doing all we can to help." said Tricia Ang, Marketing Director at 42U. Energy consumption of typical data centers can be substantially reduced through design of the physical infrastructure and IT architecture.

Electrical power usage is not currently a typical design criterion for data centers. Historically, it has also been difficult to effectively manage as an expense. This is an interesting fact when you consider that the electrical power costs over the life of a data center can exceed the costs of the electrical power system as well as the IT equipment itself.
With data center build outs, retro-fits, re-commissioning, expansions and server consolidation reaching a feverish pace, so have the challenges in keeping up with compliance, green initiatives – all while attempting to lower costs, increase scalability and keeping IT operations and Business always on/Uptime.

PG&E has fostered a consortium of electric companies throughout the country who could have financial incentives available for your company’s move towards Data Center Efficiency. Following the webinar, 42U has the resources and expertise to guide you through the steps towards earning incentives and becoming efficient in your Data Center environment.

Join 42U on Friday, July 25th as Mark Bramfitt, Principle Program Manager for PG&E, discusses how PG&E is helping their customers save money by being energy efficient.

Translating an equation into energy savings and future ROI. Experts agree that, for now, Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) is the most accurate way to measure the energy efficiency of a data center. Bramfitt said he needs something like PUE to help determine which data center products and improvements are truly energy efficient and then provide financial incentives for companies that adopt them. "Manufacturers just can't stick up their hand and say 'This is an energy-efficient product,' he said. "I need to know how efficient it is."

Discussion Points

* What is driving the emphasis on energy efficiency in the Information Technology/Data Center sector
* Likely technology and market adoption trends
* What strategies should we be taking to move towards "Green IT"
* Getting there: a leadership challenge

Register for this data center webinar today!
