Sensory Images

This is an example of what I have started calling a sensory image. I don’t think thats an original term but it seems to sum up for me how i feel when I look at these kinds of photos.

I don’t think an image needs to be of a face or a beautiful scene in order to move people. Sometimes its enough that that image holds a kind of  suggestion or an idea of something to follow for it to move me.

The image below shows the hands of two pageboys hastily trying to fold their pocket squares. I think its the anticipation and the idea that they are trying to look as best they can for their dad’s wedding that gives this image new life.

Elissia on Film

Here’s a shot from Elissia and John’s recent wedding that we just had to post!

In the last few months we’ve starting taking along our film camera’s to weddings just to add a little bit of dynamic to the range of shots that we would otherwise take.

We especially love the honesty of film and the concerted effort required to take the “right shot at the right time”. Once you click the shutter theres no checking or readjusting but the result is timeless.

We are exploring options of shooting an entire wedding on film and would love to hear from you if you are interested!

So beautiful – love it!

Jo & Jason, Beaumont Beach House in Byron Bay

One of the things I love about photographing weddings at Byron Bay (apart form the obvious fact that the place is gorgeous) is that we always head down the night before the wedding. We do this in case of roadworks and to check our planned locations in the right light – i.e., the same time of day we plan to shoot the next day. We also have to check that Asia Jo’s still make a mean Pad Thai and that the Beach Hotel is still serving cold beer and tastey nachos. And in case you’re wondering, we’ve given it all the green light:)

Jo and Jason had their wedding at Beaumont’s Beach House overlooking the Pacific Ocean – it was stunning! As Jo and Jas were saying their vowels the clouds that had been threatening all morning, cleared away to reveal a blue sky with gorgeous sun! And as if we ordered it especially, the clouds came back while we were taking photos at the lighthouse and provided the most splendid backdrop. It was incredible to watch the storm coming in. We were watching what seemed like a curtain of rain nearing us and it was traveling quite quickly. In fact, within moments of us getting back into the cars, the skies opened up and it poured down like crazy! It was amazing!!

We wanted to thank you guys for letting us be a part of your wedding day – it was one of those days that we will never forget!

Wow Alex…those clouds and you have captured the mood and the whole day beautifully!

Melissa & Mihali, Hillstone St Lucia

What an incredible couple and an incredible wedding. Melissa and Mihali are full-of-life kind’a people! You can hear them a mile off and there is always laughter – the kinda people you would be lucky to know!

Their wedding was a Massive Greek wedding – with a capital M – a true celebration of their love. Mihali’s speech was sensational – honest and straight from the heart.

Even among all of the hustle and bustle of their day, I managed to steal these two away for a quiet moment or two before the real partying kicked off…

Alana + Mark, Restaurant II

We just wanted to share a few sneaky teasers of Alana and Mark’s wedding which we photographed recently at Restaurant II in Brisbane.

These two images in particular jumped out at us and I think offer a glimpse of their elegant and timeless wedding story.

I cannot wait to sort through the rest…
