Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – The Hays County Commissioners Court and emergency response officials want to remind residents who use cell phones that they can receive emergency notifications on those phones. While landline phones are programmed automatically to receive emergency notifications, cell phones must be registered separately to receive them.

Hays County partners with the Capital Area Council of Governments (CAPCOG) in the regional Emergency Notification System that allows officials to alert local residents when certain emergencies threaten. Once you register your phone it could take up to a month for the number to be included in the notification system, so residents are urged to register their phones before the next emergency strikes.

Individuals can register as many cell phone numbers at the same location as they want and cell phone numbers can be registered to multiple addresses, such as home and work. Public safety officials will only contact phone numbers assigned to the geographic area that is affected.

According to CAPCOG, VoIP phones will automatically be added to the database within the next few weeks, so there is no longer a need to register them separately through your provider.

Here is a link on the County’s website with more information about the program and the link to register your cell phone.

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – Hays County Commissioner Precinct 3 Will Conley has been selected to chair the Policy Board of the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO), the first time a chairman has been elected from outside the immediate Austin-Travis County area.

Commissioner Will Conley - Precinct 3

CAMPO is the regional planning group for local jurisdictions in five Central Texas counties – Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis and Williamson. CAMPO coordinates regional transportation planning among counties, cities, the Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the Capital Area Rural Transportation System and the Texas Department of Transportation and approves the use of federal transportation funds within the region.

“CAMPO has been an excellent means for rural and urban Central Texas to plan together to meet our mutual, regional transportation needs,” Conley said. “I’m especially pleased at the confidence shown in me by my board colleagues because this is the first time that the Board has elected a chair from outside a mostly urban area. In recent years, counties in more rural areas have embraced regional transportation planning, and have stepped up to the plate in making it a priority.”

Conley, whose precinct extends from the Wimberley area of western Hays County into the San Marcos area, has been a Hays County commissioner since 2004 and has served on the CAMPO board since 2010. He also represents Hays County on other transportation planning organizations.

More information about CAMPO is available at www.campo.org.

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – Tax Assessor-Collector Luanne Caraway is urging residents to be aware of the Tuesday, January 31 deadline for paying taxes in Hays County. On Wednesday, February 1, a 7-percent penalty and interest will be assessed.

“Even if you can’t pay your entire bill, consider paying as much as you can,” said Hays County Tax Assessor-Collector Luanne Caraway. “The penalty and interest increase each month, and with a partial payment, you will be reducing the amount that accrues penalty and interest.”

All Hays County tax offices – in Buda, Dripping Springs, Kyle and San Marcos – are open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, although the Kyle office is closed between 12:30 and 1:30 daily and the Dripping Springs office is closed from 12:30 to 1:30 on Fridays.

The San Marcos office, which is now located at the Government Center, 712 South Stagecoach Trail (on the north side of Wonder World Drive between Hunter Road and I-35) will be open until 5:30 p.m. on January 31.

Residents can also pay online at www. http://hayscountytax.com/. Regular mail must be postmarked by midnight on January 31 to be considered on time. For more information, please contact the Tax Office at 512-393-5545.

Addresses for the tax offices are Buda: 500 Jack C. Hays Trail; Dripping Springs: 195 Roger Hanks Parkway, Precinct 4 Office; and Kyle, 111 N. Front Street, Precinct 2 Office.

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – Hays County Parks Director Jerry Pinnix has closed the Dudley Johnson and Randall Vetter Parks at the Five Mile Dam Park Complex on South Old Stagecoach Road, north of San Marcos. Both parks front the Blanco River.

“Our concern is that the river might exceed its banks if water continues to rise,” Pinnix said. “And, any time there is rushing water we are concerned the water could contain dangerous debris and contaminants. As a public health and safety precaution, the parks will be closed until we determine that the area is safe.”
