As I continue to learn more about the communication world I am often reminded of the importance of keeping things on task, on time, and on priority. As I searched for a solution to help me accomplish these goals I had a hard time coming up with anything useful. I turned to twitter, google and anyone who would listen to compile a list of resources that could be useful for the team I work with and you.

Here are the 5 best project management tools from around the web:

1. Flow

I will start off with my favorite project management tool. Flow seems to be the most user friendly, intuitive, and interactive app out there. Not only does it provide a great task flow area, it allows you to assign task to team members, due dates, and upload files. These are a must in any project management system. But my favorite feature about flow is the ability to get it on your mac, iPhone, iPad, or browser. This is a huge feature that most project management systems do not possess. This fits the needs of the people who want an app in browser or on the go.

2. Kanbanpad

What I love about Kanbanpad is the ability to look at your projects on a storyboard. Not only does that allow you view your projects through the lens of start to finish but it also allows you to see the big picture as well as focusing on the littlest of details.

Another great feature is the ability to tag, assign, and schedule task. Simply type in your task, tag team members with the @ sign, and assign the task to a board by using the # sign. This makes kanbanpad a clear favorite for project management. The only downside of this tool is that there is not calendar feature to see all your projects at a glance.

3. Asana

Asana is another great tool that allows users to see a full picture of a project and then assign task to each project. Allowing team members to simply add task to the task bar for a full overview of what is left to do and what has been completed is as simple as typing in a few words and hitting enter. To expand more on the to-do items another slot opens up to allow you to assign team members, due dates, and comments for others to see.

4. Producteev

Producteev provides a “workspace” type of feel to your projects. Allowing you to view all your projects in your inbox Producteev has a great panel that lets you quickly get to each project. The real power of this tool is the ability to quickly create projects, assign dates and then provide information about each task all in the same space.

5. Trello

Trello is another great tool out there that allows you to have a great overall glance at all your projects. Having a very pinterest feel to it, you can incorporate tabs and list out task. This does not seem to be the beefiest tool for project manangement but could be  good for blog planning or event planning.

Honorable mention goes to Basecamp, Nozbe and Wunderlist.

Twitter and Tumblr joining forces?

At first I thought I was on a fake twitter site, but that couldn’t be because it was twitter.com/search.
Then I just thought it was a weird mistake that my computer started freaking out, but that too was not the issue.

The more I think about it, twitter and tumblr joining forces could be a very real possibility.

Here is a thought:
The reason twitter and tumblr could be joining forces on the search.twitter.com side of things is for the feature of gathering content, conversation, and news. As Gary Vee has made search.twitter.com a necessary for any business, tumblr could bring in some great features that allow people to follow conversations and gain more attention to conversations.

PLNDR is a new site that I have recently discovered. Even though it is new it has quickly become one of my favorites. This site has tons of great deals and stores. You might have seen gilt.com advertised all over the web. But it really is a nice deal site. I do use the word deal loosely here. It is a bit pricey, but if you look at the right time you can actually find some pretty good deals that are worth checking out. Invite only site. Get your invite here.

Ignore the weird name of Hautelook and just pay attention to the great deals that could be yours. Another deal site that has ton of options for men, women and your home. Invite only site. Get your invite here.

Here are 5 Sites that give away great Photoshop Documents for free:

1. Designmoo

Designmoo is a must visit site that delivers fresh new PSD’s daily. Not only do they deliver new PSD’s they deliver a lot. Another great thing about this site is the tags. You can search for hours finding the just the right PSD you are looking for. This is a must bookmark site.

2. Premium Pixels

Another site that boast great free PSD’s that everyone should have. A bonus feature of this site is that they also have free wordpress themes available for download.

3. 365PSD

365psd.com is exactly what it sounds like, a new PSD delivered daily. This is a must grab RSS feed. You can either look through the whole collection or actually buy the entire years worth of PSD’s. This is a must follow site.

4. PixelsDaily

Not only is PixelsDaily a free PSD site, it is also a resource site that has great tutorials and inspiration. This site is not updated as much as the others, but it still has some great free PSD’s that are worth checking out.

Well one of those D’s stands for Delicious. DDGoodies is a great freebie site that has PSD freebies, icons and premium wordpress themes. Once again, a strong free PSD site worth checking out.

I am excited for the release of Oink, the first app from Milk (Kevin Rose’s company). This is a social sharing app that puts you in charge and lets you suggest and rate your experience.

I have quickly downloaded this app and have started rating things. I truly believe that social is turning more into authority to share. Once again, the gate keepers are now the people, and we now suggest what to do, like, and enjoy.

The day has come, the well anticipated John Mark McMillan album, Economy, has been released.

I have been sitting with this album for about a month now and the more I listen the more I like it.
John Mark continues to make music that is his own music and yet represents thousands of people. That might sound like indie blog-esque hyperbole, but going back to a post I wrote a while ago (found here) about the difference between writing for others and writing for yourself, John Mark does a great job of producing music that he is wrestling with instead of wondering what others want to hear.

This album is John Mark and his bands music, and for that I love it and I think you will as well.

Fast forward an hour or two and I was standing alone in my apartment, waving my arm in a circular motion telling the runner to score from second base on a triple by David Freese. An hour later I was calling and texting every St. Louis Cardinals fan I know and celebrating. What a night.

As the night continued and the clock grew closer to my wake up time (5am) I started to dread the morning. High on the excitement of a comeback win I was more interested in sleeping this one off then getting up to go to a breakfast 25 minutes away.

The alarm sounded, I jumped out of bed, then jumped back in. I probably laid there for 15 minutes going back and forth on going or not. I played every situation out.
“I made a commitment, I need to go.”
“But if I go I will be tired for the rest of the day, and I have a lot of work to do, a baseball game to watch tonight and precious sleep to gain.”

Guess what? I decided to go.

As I walked into that breakfast, the guy(s) that I was meeting with said that part of the reason the breakfast was so early was because often times people ask to meet with him and he uses the earliness of the morning to weed out the people who simi-want to pursue mentoring and their dream and those that will do whatever it takes.

I will be honest, I didn’t want to go, but after hearing that I realized why I needed to be there.

There will always be more time to sleep, more time to watch television, more time to lay on the couch, and more time to surf the internet. But missing out on an opportunity to grow and pursue something is not worth missing for an extra hour of something we do every day.

I realized something this morning, most of life is about showing up and being faithful.

I made the switch to Google Chrome as my main browser about a year and a half ago and have not looked back. What sold me? The ability to search google inside the browser…that is what sold me.
Let me show you:

Not only was that an amazing feature (coupled with googles ability to instantly show you search results) but the speed of Google Chrome was hands down better then any other browser out there, even Internet Explorer (sorry Mom).

And last but not least, Google Chrome has showed the most progression with HTML5 and CSS3. Don’t know what I am talking about, check out this experiment with HTML5 and Arcade Fire found here.

I tell you all of this for one reason, Google just released a new version of Chrome yesterday and added some new features that I wanted to show you.

I use Google Chrome, but I know it is not perfect. It does have one major draw back that I have found. It does not have the ability to work with Firebug. This is a major hold up for me considering that I use this tool daily. But if you are not a firebug user, or do what I do and just open firefox when you need to use firebug then I think Google Chrome could be a great browser for you to start using.

So what browser do you use?

For your sake I hope you have already heard the new Coldplay album Mylo Xyloto. But if not, I got the hook up for you.

This album continues to build on the previous strong albums that we have come to love from Coldplay like Viva La Vida, X & Y, and Parachutes. But to be honest this album could be their best.

You and everyone else (minus the music snobs who hate music that any one else likes) will love this album.

Confused by the name of the album Mylo Xyloto, here is what Chris Martin has to say about it, (it is) “based on a love story with a happy ending, in which two protagonists: Mylo and Xyloto, who are living in an oppressive, dystopian urban environment, meet one another through a gang called “The Lost Boys”, and fall in love.”

That should make you want to listen
