Caitlyn Jenner could be charged with vehicular manslaughter as early next week in connection to a February crash in Malibu, California that killed one.

The lead detective on the case told KABC that they plan to turn the results of the investigation over to the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office next week, and will recommend Jenner be charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.

It will be up to the DA's office whether to charge Jenner with the crime. In California, the maximum sentence for misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter is one year in jail.

The detective said the recommendation for the charge is based on how fast Jenner was going at the time of the crash, which they believe was unsafe.

One woman was killed and seven others injured when Jenner rear-ended a Lexus on February 7.

A Toyota Prius had come to a stop in the intersection for unknown reasons, and then Jenner slammed into the Lexus waiting to move behind the Prius.

At the time, Jenner was driving a Cadillac Escalade towing a trailer, and the impact of her SUV on the Lexus forced the car into southbound traffic where it collided head on with a Hummer.

The driver of the Lexus, Kimberly Howe, was killed.

In the aftermath of the crash, Howe's stepchildren filed a lawsuit against Jenner, saying she was driving at an unsafe speed and that her negligence causes the 69-year-old's death.

When interviewed by police after the crash, Jenner told them that she was being followed by paparazzi but was not trying to evade them.

There were also reports that Jenner was on her phone at the time of the crash, something her lawyer has denied.

Dismissed soldiers for refusing to fight Boko Haram recalled by the Army

2015-08-20T09:43:00.002-07:00

Many soldiers who were earlier dismissed from the Nigerian Army for refusing to fight have been recalled and are currently being screened at the Jaji military cantonment in Kaduna State, Daily Trust gathered yesterday.

While some soldiers were sentenced to death, others were dismissed by military court martials for their refusal to fight Boko Haram militants. But the soldiers said they were not provided the right combat equipment to fight the terrorists.

Daily Trust gathered in Kaduna that the screening, which is going on at the outskirts of the cantonment, is housing over 3,000 soldiers awaiting determination by a committee from the army headquarters.

“The soldiers are all there in Jaji cantonment awaiting their turns to be screened by the committee and whoever scales through might be recalled. It was their prayer that if General Muhammadu Buhari becomes president, he might recall them. These soldiers are trained and it is very dangerous and wasteful if the federal government terminates their employments,” the source said.

One of the soldiers who pleaded anonymity, insisted that the army authorities refused to provide adequate arms and ammunition to fight the insurgents.

“I am a corporal and I have served in the Nigerian Army for the past 28 years, I have served in Bama and Baga, what I saw there was a very bad situation, we were sent there to fight insurgents without weapons and ammunition, can you imagine, a small boy of 15 to 18 years will pursue a soldier and the soldier would run away simply because he does not have the machines that the boy has, only for the army authorities to say they were dismissing us because we refused to fight Boko Haram.

“Nigerian soldiers are among the best around the world, the only problem we have is that they are not equipped with the equipment needed to combat the terrorists but we have the means and resources to do that”, he added.

Efforts to get the reaction of the army authorities before press time were futile.

New NNPC boss- Nigeria’s fuel subsidy unsustainable

2015-08-20T09:27:00.000-07:00

The new head of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) said on Thursday the country’s fuel subsidy was an unsustainable drain on the economy, calling for deregulation of the oil and gas sector.

“Subsidy creates distortions in government revenue distribution,” NNPC managing director Emmanuel Kachikwu said in a speech in Lagos.

Nigeria produces some two million barrels of crude a day but despite its huge reserves, the country imports much of its fuel due to a lack of refining capability — a situation blamed on corruption and mismanagement.

To make fuel affordable, Nigeria has frozen the price of a litre of petrol at 87 naira ($0.44, 0.39 euros), lower than the market rate. Fuel importers expect subsidy payments from the government to make up the difference.

When the government does not pay, fuel runs scarce, frequently causing gridlock and panic, and the subsidy programme has been found to be rife with corruption, including false claims and overpayments.

“Subsidy accounted for 20 percent of the federal government budget in 2013,” said Kachikwu, appointed earlier this month by President Muhammadu Buhari to spearhead reforms in the corruption-hit oil sector.

The government ended fuel subsidies in 2012 but was forced to partially reinstate them when petrol prices more than doubled, causing violent mass protests that left more than a dozen dead.

Nigeria spent more than five trillion naira ($25 billion/22.5 billion euros) on fuel subsidies between 2006 and 2012, Kachikwu said in the speech read out in his absence to a conference of energy correspondents.

The Harvard-trained lawyer called for “speedy implementation” of deregulation in the sector which he said would encourage investment.

Nigeria is Africa’s largest oil producer, with 37.4 billion barrels of crude in its reserves.

Crude accounts for more than 90 percent of Nigeria’s export earnings and about 80 percent of federal government revenue, Kachikwu said.

2015-08-19T07:24:00.000-07:00

Maka but why now........A 10-year-old boy set fire to an apartment Thursday night after his request to use another child’s bicycle was refused, police said. The suspect was not identified because of his age.
Police said he intentionally set fire to the front door of an apartment at 7450 35th St N. in the same complex where he lives.

“When the child victim refused to allow the suspect to use the bicycle, the juvenile suspect acquired a plastic gas container, poured the contents of the container on the front door and the welcome mat to the victim's apartment, knocked on the door, and ignited the flammable liquid,” police said. “The victims observed the fire on the door through the door's viewing port at which time they were able to call for help and escape the apartment.”

Police say the suspect was located in the complex and admitted to the arson under questioning.

25-year-old man caught on expressway with N48m in cash

2015-08-19T04:36:00.001-07:00

25-year-old John Okafor was arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for being in possession of N48m cash. It was learnt that the suspect was apprehended with the money on the Abaji-Abuja Expressway on Monday by the anti-narcotic officials who were on a routine patrol.
He was said to be one of the the passengers of a commercial bus coming from Onitsha, Anambra State, when he was arrested.

Okafor insisted that the money belonged to an unnamed bureau de change firm in Onitsha, that he was an employee of the firm. He said he was heading for the foreign exchange market in the Federal Capital Territory to convert the sum to dollars when he was arrested.
He said:

“I work for a bureau de change in Onitsha. I was asked to purchase dollars at the foreign exchange market in Abuja with the money. When we got to Abaji, our vehicle was searched and the money was found. That is all I know.”

It was gathered that a drug dealer, Chukuka Ugbai, was arrested with 79 bags of weed said to have tested positive for cannabis in Bako village in the Kwali Area Council, Abuja during the same patrol.
The drug which weighed 817 kilogrammes was found in his warehouse. While Ugbai owned up to illicit dealing in drug, Ugbai, but said he was amazed that the operatives were able to track him to his residence.
He said:

“I was not lucky enough because I don’t know how they detected my cannabis warehouse. I sell cannabis to take care of my family and pay my children’s school fees. The officers found 79 bags of cannabis in my store.”

The FCT commander of the NDLEA, Mrs. Chinyere Obijuru, confirmed the two arrests in a statement. She said Okafor would be handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for further investigation, while Ugbai would be charged to court.

She said:

“Okafor was on board a commercial bus from Onitsha in Anambra State when N48,450,000 was found in a brown carton concealed in a sack. He also had on him 86,500 CFA. He claimed that the money belongs to a bureau de change at Onitsha. He is suspected to be engaging in money laundering and will be transferred to the EFCC for further investigation. “Ugbai was arrested at Bako village in the Kwali Area Council following the discovery of his cannabis warehouse. He will soon be charged to court for unlawful possession of cannabis.”

The NDLEA Chairman, Ahmadu Giade, said the agency would continue to clamp down on drug traffickers and urged the public to comply with the provisions of the anti-money laundering act.

Woman claims she found lizard in her latte

2015-08-19T04:13:00.000-07:00

A Phoenix woman says she found a small lizard inside her Starbucks latte. And she has the pictures to prove it.
Kim and Brian Dillon aid they visited Starbucks and ordered two sugar free lattes and found an extra ingredient inside one.

"It was just so gross knowing it was in my mouth," said Kim.

"It was a lizard," said Brian. "A little lizard! That she drank. That went into her mouth."

Shocked and disgusted, Kim and Brian couldn't believe it.
"I was like, 'Oh my God,'" said Kim. "I was almost going to swallow it."
The couple went back to the store, with the lifeless critter in a bag and the staff apologized.

And when ABC15 reached out to Starbucks, they said they're disturbed by the situation and are looking into it.
Fry's said they did extra cleaning and checked with a pest control company, but they believe it's an isolated incident.

"We understand that we live in the desert and there's a bunch of bugs," said Brian. "But something like that is just nerve wrecking."

And it still leaves the couple with so many questions.

"Where are the legs? Where's the skin?" asked Kim. "And it just makes me sick."

The little slimy experience really left a bad taste in their mouths.
"Maybe we'll be tea drinkers from now on," laughed Brian.

Beyonce doing what she does best

Newsstand sales for the first half of the year declined by 10 percent, according to figures released last week. The numbers show that editors would be wise to stick by a few operating principles: sex sells, three celebrities are better than one and Beyoncé trumps everyone, even the First Lady of the United States.

Vogue styled Beyoncé looking so regal for its March cover, she outsold an exclusive interview in April with Michelle Obama, 355,397 to 293,798, a difference of about 60,000 copies, digital replicas included.

Nicki Minaj is indisputably newsstand poison. Appearing on the April cover of Elle and in Teen Vogue in June-July, she sold the second fewest number of copies for both.

Man jailed 45 years for stealing Gov Aregbesola’s N50k phone

2013-04-30T06:12:00.002-07:00

A 31 year old named Kevin Ighodalo (pictured above), has been sentenced to 45 years imprisonment by an Osogbo High Court for stealing a Sony Ericsson phone said to be worth about N50,000 belonging to Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State. Below is how Punch is reporting it

Ighodalo stole the phone from the pocket of Aregbesola on November 27, 2010, when the governor was being inaugurated at Government Technical College, Osogbo.

Justice Oyejide Falola, who heard the case, found Ighodalo guilty on six counts, which included conspiracy, stealing and fraud.

He was sentenced to 10-year imprisonment for the first three counts and five years for each of the last three which included impersonation, obtaining property by falsehood and collusion.

Falola, who ruled that Ighodalo deserved the jail term, held that the convict used the phone to obtain N500, 000 from the Owa of Ilesa, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, while he obtained N200, 000 from Mr Shengen Rahman, an associate of the governor.

The jail term, which Falola pronounced will run concurrently, means that Ighodalo will spend the next 10 years behind bars.

Assistant principal state counsel, Mr Biodun Badiora, told the court that the convict had served six-year imprisonment in Ikoyi prison custody in connection with a murder case in 2005.

Counsel to Ighodalo, Mr. Ameachi Ngwu, prayed the court to commit him to community service, stressing that the convict should not be incarcerated but rather be placed where people could see him as a convict.

Why I killed my brother - Nigerian US Army deserter

2013-03-27T08:25:00.001-07:00

Vanguard report:

Nigerian US Army deserter, Allen Williams Abiodun, 52, who was arrested on February 20, 2013, for allegedly killing his younger brother, a Merchant Navy personnel in Imude community, Oto Awori Local Government area of Lagos, has finally opened up on why he committed the dastardly act.

The six-footer confessed to Crime Alert that he stabbed the deceased, Allen Olawale Ayetimi, 24, to death, following continuous threat on his life by Olawale.

The late Olawale was reportedly sleeping when Williams allegedly stabbed him in the head, neck and jugular.

After allegedly committing the devilish deed, Williams reportedly dumped Olawale’s remains in an uncompleted building foundation behind their compound and, covered it with leaves.

Report said he thereafter, took his late brother’s ATM card, Merchant Navy uniform and phone.
Crime Alert gathered that the deceased only returned from an official trip to Port Harcourt at about 11pm that fateful day. Although, he was based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, his mission to Lagos, as reliably gathered, was to settle a score between his elder brother and their mother.

On arrival, the late Olawale reportedly washed his uniform, took his bath and shared a brief moment with his mother and siblings in the shop they were confined to,during which he informed them of his intention to convince his brother to accept them back to the main building, unaware that he would never live to see his mission accomplished.

Before retiring to the bedroom which he shared with his elder brother, Olawale was said to have instructed one of his sisters to boil water for him to bath the next morning.

Apprehension set in next day, after his sister went to inform him that the hot water was ready, only to discover his blood-stained clothes on the floor without any sight of him. As she was about to leave, she reportedly met Williams, who informed her that Olawale had gone to the bank.
Unsure of what to do, she reportedly alerted her mother who raised alarm that created a scene in front of the building.

A neighbour who claimed to have seen Williams dragging what he suspected to be Olawale’s body into the bush told Crime Alert: “I came out at about 1 am to ease myself, only to notice some movements. Out of curiosity, I peeped to see what it was, only to find Williams dragging something on the floor.

“When I finished from the toilet, he was returning from where he went. I noticed his hands were stained with blood and out of curiosity, I asked where the blood came from and he said he just killed a goat. Since I did not suspect anything, I went inside to sleep. It was when I heard a shout from their compound in the morning that I was compelled to disclose what happened.”

This revelation reportedly led to William’s arrest after which he was handed over to the police.
However in this interview with Crime Alert at the State Criminal Investigations Department, Yaba, Monday, where he was paraded alongside some robbery suspects that have been terrorizing Lagos, it was observed that Williams was not coherent with his words. He simply stated that the deceased was never his brother.

According to him, “He is not my brother. He is Ogunmadede’s son. What happened on that very day was that as I was in my room at midnight, somebody pointed a torch light in my face. And I said hey man, you know you have been threatening me. The next thing I did was to reach for a cutlass. I moved over and stabbed him in the head in order to act safe. It did not look easy for me to kill him”
Asked why he chased his mother and siblings from the main building, he denied that stating: “ I am a US soldier for your information. I only escaped and returned home in 1992 because of a lady I fell in love with from the Ogunmade family in Ondo State. But when I returned, she dumped me and I could not go back”.

Back to the question about his mother, he said, “I did not chase my mother away. In fact, she was in her office in Ikeja when the incident occurred”.

Asked how that was possible since he said the incident occurred at midnight, he simply stared at this reporter. At a point, he started behaving funny like one who is mentally deranged, saying things that were not relevant to the issue at hand.

Investigation carried out in his community revealed that he was feigning to be mentally deranged, in order to be let off the hook.

One of his relatives who spoke on condition of anonymity said: “ He has never had any mental problem since I knew him. He is just pretending so that one will think he is a mad man”.

Meanwhile, his mother and siblings are currently gripped with fear over the possibility of Williams’ release. But police operatives assured they would conduct a test on him to ascertain his mental state before charging him to court.
