The BC Lions Society operates three summer camps: Camp Shawnigan on Vancouver Island, Camp Squamish north of Vancouver, and Camp Winfield in the Okanagan Valley.

Spending a summer as a member of at an Easter Seals camp is a unique opportunity to share your energy, your ideas and your strengths with kids who will, in turn, enrich your world. As a summer opportunity, Camp offers a wealth of skills and experiences that you will carry with you throughout life. Leadership, compassion, teamwork, creativity and commitment are valuable qualities in any employee - at camp you will demonstrate and develop these skills during your stay. For many, Camp is a stepping stone to careers in medicine, physiotherapy or occupational therapy, nursing, education, and recreation; to name a few.

COUNSELLORS are directly responsible for the care, safety and emotional well being of campers during camp sessions. Prior experience is not essential - far more important are a high level of responsibility, a positive attitude, creativity, respect, and an ability to recognize both the strengths and needs of others.

PROGRAMMERS design, adapt, and lead fun, safe, interesting activities in their specific area, and All-camp programs. A Class 4 Driver’s License is an asset.

Volunteers: attend camp for a minimum of one session (7days, 6 nights) assisting counsellors and programmers in providing assistance and supervision for campers. In conjunction with paid staff, volunteers are responsible for both their campers’ physical and emotional well-being.

The minimum age for volunteers is 17 years old and for staff 18 years old.
New staff are paid $82/day.
A criminal record check with vulnerable sector search will be required of all successful applicants before a position is confirmed.
Staff require Standard First-Aid and CPR-C.  Hep A and B immunizations are recommended.

&lt;p&gt;&amp;#183; Previous supervisory experience&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;#183; Highly developed and demonstrable verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;#183; Possession of current Instructor level certifications where required&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;#183; Applicants may be required to arrange their own transportation and where appropriate will be reimbursed in accordance with the City of Edmonton policy. This may require the applicant to obtain business use auto insurance&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;#183; Possession of a valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operators License (or Operators Licensing equivalent recognized by the Operators Licensing Vehicle Control Regulation, Alta.Reg.320/2002) and eligibility to obtain a City drivers permit&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;#183; Current Standard First Aid, CPR and driver's abstract are required (with no more than six (6) demerits) to be completed prior to commencement of work and are the financial responsibility of the candidate&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;#183; An original Police Information Check, including Vulnerable Sector Check issued within the past 6 months that is satisfactory to the employer will be required before starting in the position.
