The exact boundaries of each areas are rather ill-defined. One section bleeds into another. Pockets of development can be found in some areas, while long stretches of open, undeveloped land lie in between. Nightlife and major restaurants are concentrated in the central town of Senggigi. Tanjung, Mangsit, and Batu Bolong are primarily home to resorts and offer very little other tourist activities, such as shopping and nightlife. The first time traveler should be aware of these distinct regional differences. Simply booking a hotel in Senggigi could mean a relatively remote location where the town center can only be reached by taxi. Senggigi is the place to find hotels/resorts with manicured grounds and swimming pools. Many accommodations advertise they are located only a short distance from the beach. However, the beaches can vary in quality from broad, white sand beach in one location to coarse, black sand beach in the next. Senggigi is not a typical tourist resort town where a day can be spent shopping and socializing at the local bars and restaurants . Most visitors use Senggigi as a home base and take day trips to the waterfalls, the Gili Islands, or just exploring the still authentic villages, temples, and jungle habitat found within a couple hours drive.
rss

Lombok fighting

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 199px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5e96XBtMPMLFT-_uWxmS-9a973_JvW_xvYrf84y04n0EF1IYrckStCi8fP7l67hwmMEONjjL95LXhCnd7Z_uvlRJCxaLxrFmeGRk13PwHwwrMZEuFmP12UzL9AybHOBqHPVu1TyQSoCUc/s320/prseans.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5447546273668160098" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 212px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_X3JQBTaILGc/S5mSMY9KV9I/AAAAAAAAACA/bCqtGFJDZdo/s320/prsean.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5447545965836392402" />

The Traditional Lombok fighting
rss

<itunes:explicit/><itunes:subtitle>The Traditional Lombok fightingrss</itunes:subtitle><itunes:author>noreply@blogger.com (Unknown)</itunes:author><itunes:summary>The Traditional Lombok fightingrss</itunes:summary>

The Nature Island

Lombok Island is actually also known with the nature of its beach. Thousands of them go to the beachhes to catch very special worms called Nyale. It is very special because Nyale are found only on the south coast of Lombok. They appear on only day the year on February or March. After midday and before the Nyale apper at the around 3.30 pm people gather on a special spot at the beach to join in the some special traditional art performace such as Betandak ( a recitation by two or more persons singing Nyale, people join in Belancaran, a trip to the sea for fun.

Actually the whole event celebrates a legend when a long time ago in the Tonjang Beru Kingdom, in the south of the island there lived a beautiful princess called Putri Mandalika. So beautiful she was that many princes from many kingdoms all over the island were interested in her. On one particular day and at the same time six princes came to propose marriage. this led to much confusion. Her father did not know how to choose, because whoever the choice was, it would lead to jealously and war among the kingdoms.

Greatly perturbed, he decided to leave the decision to his daughter. She was also very Confused as any choice would sacrifice her people. She therefore decided to end here life by jumping into the ocean from a hill. It is said tat Nyale, the sea worms, is actually the icarnation of the Putri Mandalika.
rss

Traditional Culture

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhM3F5vVMT8UY__PBuOOUxruH35tMftlCdJ3Gh-6J-4vSrrQ8WPMIIAufsLuiUdX4etlU9MKCx45QBNJU9XaC81Iet-jbq2pj9yuGoWE5EV3HYg1KXq0LMxXtn43171pwsbg2NDoXIZcGmt/s320/peserean.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5437309860235412514" />
Adat ( traditional law ) is still fundamental to the way of life in lombok today, particularly costome relating to birth, circumicion, couthship and marriage.
Sasaks show a fascination with heroic trials of strengh, physical prowess and one-on-one contest.
Peresean sometimes misleadinglycalled Sasak Boxing, is a fight between two men using long rattan staves and small rectengular shields. Lanca, originally from Sumbawa, is another trial of strengh, this time between men who use their knees to stike each other.
Social Graces Most of Lombok is conservative, and immodest dress and public pisplays of effection between couples can cause offence. Both men and women should dress appropriately away from Senggigi and the Dilis. Nude or topless bathing anywhere is very offensive.

Islamic law forbids drinking alcohol and, although booze is widely available across Lombok, public drunkeness is quite definitely frowned upon. It's particularly offensive to drink alcohol near a mosque.
rss

Geography & Economy

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 306px; height: 199px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_X3JQBTaILGc/S3U0ExcmG6I/AAAAAAAAABY/ZGYpgB58Is8/s320/tradisional_market.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5437309381717138338" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 226px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKAD5-OqZQtgCSNtJdxKqYT2VD6m6NuCkXBNBDK9xp_iETimNqq30ViQvNcHoGPmCFrtRU9WFyYxUeiWX_ear6V2rqecMUuptsjGXTGy380zkH8_Fnecuzsr3mEw3xxbectAEEkhK-vAt3/s320/farmer.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5437309266697443506" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 263px; height: 305px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjziNvRzLDTeErBwAtVjbUI85Vqp7V0ILfJzzkjnuvfYmpRS6l09mp1dwZ9oiWcU4_YllX2JXATBfqDdP6-OP4HXU_k7nr6xhPCmfPFBO3xHNEkDw_lPvwHg-_ds7EvGdvLrsdaOMkGLXK1/s320/tobbacos.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5437309152156596226" />
Lombok is a small island, just 80km from east to weast and about the same distance from north to south. Gunung Rinjani ( Mt. Rinjani ) dominates the northen part of the island, and streams on the volcano's southern flank water the rich plains of central Lombok. The far south and east is drier, with srubby, barren hills. The majority of the population live on the central plain and in the watter, more fertile, western coastal areas.
The rice grown in Lombok is noted for excellent quality, but do to the drier climate, the productivity is not as high as in Java or Bali. There are also small and large planations of coconut palms, coffe, vanilla, peneapple and pepper have been introduced, but tobacco is probably the biggest cash crop.
Tourism development only started about 1980, when Lombok island become 'Indonesia's best-kept secret'. A few leasons about the effects of unrestrained development in the tourist centres in Bali have been learnt and put into practice in Lombok, but tourism still has a dramatic effect on the local onvironment and community. Large stretches of coastline were never built and there is sporadic cultural conflict between conservative Islamic and liberal Western values. Tourism promised much for Lombok's economy, but with the ongoing instability around the archipelago, it has never realised its full potential.
rss

Lombok Island

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 249px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkFiI_9o2x__TR9X94xlS6v3zLOZYeD04V6aJbC-CwtMCU4joMvxHOdd00ccpZ0-ErOGH1FDBfcNRgheI2vo9qDb2GdJyD99lp9wGy9HBMO3CoIZWwqFjVZ619ryp1-Osib3aAHXE1_8fL/s320/lombokMap.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5437311009088495346" />
Lombok Island just east of Bali, 30 minutes by flight or 4 hours by ferry, you will arrive in Lombok.
It is one of among 13 thousand islands of the Wallace Line.
