<itunes:summary>The Phil Waldrep Evangelistic Association was formed in 1980. Phil Waldrep, a Southern Baptist evangelist, began to speak at revivals and other events under the new association.

In 1984, Phil Waldrep and the P.W.E.A. held their first conference, “The Phil Waldrep Youth Bible Conference” in Talladega, Alabama. This conference had an attendance of 284 the first year. This number grew to an annual average of over 1,000 attendees over the next seven years, from 1984-1991.

In 1991, Mountain Top Conferences, the conference division of P.W.E.A. was formed. It began hosting two different student camps; “Oasis” in June and July, and “Teen Celebrations”, now known as “Student Celebrations”, which take place just after Christmas.

Also in 1991, the first women’s and men’s conferences were added. Senior Adult and Marriage conferences were added in 1994.

Today, Phil Waldrep Ministries hosts conferences for men, women, senior adults, students and pastors, and other events such as Christian cruises and mission trips to other countries.

You know, I went to a meeting for alcoholics at my 20th anniversary of alcoholism and, you know, I'm a believer. I have no desire to drink but do you know what? Telling my little story, a 16-year old girl came up to me and she said, "Will you come back?" Because I'm a woman who has overcome in an area and it gave her courage to think, "I have three days of sobriety, someday I want 20. Someday I want a family. Someday I wanna overcome and you give me hope." Instead of hiding, give people hope that God has changed your life. Be honest and transparent. As we take time to pray right now, I'm going to call you, I'm going to ask you to make a decision to spend time daily with God for the rest of your life. I've given you an idea, I've brought a plan, I'm available for the next hour, I will pray with you, I will talk with you, I will encourage you, I will e your janitor. But you need to make a decision.

Well, just seeing someone who – in today’s world, we’ve got a lotta people out there that say things, but they don’t live it. We’ve got a lotta hypocrites out in our world today. And he was a person who was authentic. What he said on the stage – when he stood up and he preached about having a relationship with Christ, when he talked about making sure that we’re doing everything that we can to be on our knees before God and crying out to God, living a life of prayer, living a life of devotion to Christ, he lived it at home, and I, unlike most people, I had the privilege and opportunity to actually see him live out his faith.

My mom was a believer in Christ, she had known God as a little girl and she went to church as a little girl but when she got older she didn't really go to church anymore. My dad didn't really believe in God at all. He didn't want religion brought into our home; didn't want to talk about a God; that was just off limits. So, I didn't grow up in a home knowing about God or knowing who Jesus was

I came home the next day and I was telling my mom about the verse and she said, "Well, Candy, where was that verse?" And I said, "I don't know, I don't remember but I know it was in the Book of Psalms." And by now I had placed Bibles throughout the house because I thought if I walked by them I'd get it by osmosis or something, I guess. And so, I picked up this Bible and I said, "It was in the Book of Psalms, let me see if I can find it," and I opened it up and there in another Bible it opened up to "I shall not die but live to declare the works of the Lord."

Don't you know some of those people were thinking, "Wow, if God could call Rahab his, if God could forgive Bathsheba, whose phone number was all over the boys' locker room, if God could forgive them and love them and call them his daughters, maybe, just maybe, he could love me too."

Like Rahab, you toss that scarlet thread out the window and say, "Here I am, Lord. Save me." A woman of Samaria found a thirst-quencher; a sinner, a woman, anointed Christ's feet. Rahab the harlot became a believer, her sin, like the walls, crumbled down in defeat. Bad for a season but no, not forever - not these three role models saved from despair. Made new by God their changed lives teach the lesson - if we but ask Him, grace waits for us there.

Don't you know some of those people were thinking, "Wow, if God could call Rahab his, if God could forgive Bathsheba, whose phone number was all over the boys' locker room, if God could forgive them and love them and call them his daughters, maybe, just maybe, he could love me too."

My goal here tonight - and in which I honestly believe is gonna be the goal of every other person that's here - is to motivate you, to stir your heart up to love God more, to motivate you and to stir your heart up to fear. Fear more, fear more in your life: losing intimacy with God. Fear more in your life. Want more fear in your life to not walk with intimacy with God. Want more fear in your life. Walk with a passionate fear that you're gonna - when you walk away from this event and not live for Him, and walk with less fear for the things of this world. I love the idea of that because God is a god who calls you and I to not be afraid of the things of this world, because He's a big god.

You know, I think we all love that song, “God Bless America, land that I love. Stand beside her and guide her through the night with a light from above. From the mountains, to the prairies, to the oceans, white with foam; God bless America, my home, sweet home.” Isn’t that a wonderful song? And every time we sing it it stirs up emotions in our souls. Since September the 11th, 2001, I really think that the slogan “God Bless America,” associated, of course, with Irving Berlin’s song from 1918, has sort of become our national anthem or our battle cry. The song, as a matter of fact, received very little attention when it was first released but Berlin revised and then rereleased it in 1938 when a new war, of course, was threatening Europe. He said he conceived the revised edition of the song as a plea for peace in an era when most Americans were hoping to avert American involvement in another foreign war. But the song retained its popularity even after America was drawn into World War II.

Well, you see, Islam isn't just a religion. Islam is also a law, it is politics, it is the whole of society and unfortunately, unlike Christianity where all the dying was done 2,000 years ago on a hill called Calvary, we know where we're going if we know Jesus Christ is-Roman 10:9 it says, "If you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe that the Father raised him from the dead you will be saved." So we don't have to worry about how we die. In Islam, there are young men who've been taught that it's all about dying the right way. And so we're confronting an enemy, an adversary, not just here in the United States like 9/11, but literally around the globe, where the adversary intends to die killing you, me, or anyone listening to this broadcast.

I want you to take your Bible tonight and open it to the gospel according to Luke chapter 15 and I want us to look tonight at a familiar story that we commonly call the story of the prodigal son.

But it actually should be called the story of a wonderful father because the emphasis of the story is the father not the son.

I guess I could or should begin by telling you one of my favorite stories. It's a story of two brothers who grew up in a small town in Europe and as they grew up together, they were both very, very crooked businessmen and it wasn't a big town at all, but they robbed and cheated absolutely everybody in town and had a horrible reputation. And one of them happened to just drop dead one day and so the living brother went to the priest of the village and he said, "Father, I know that my brother and I never came to church, but as you may already know, my brother just dropped dead and I would be most grateful if you would please eulogize my deceased brother."

Thank you very much, Phil, and thank all of you.

It's my desire to share with you a little bit about who I am, where I've come from, kind of bring you into my world a little bit - it might be a little different from your world - and let you just see who I am, not through a television screen, but just in real life, and get a glimpse of what makes me tick, and what makes my heart beat. It would be my privilege to share that with you tonight.

I realize that most of you are looking up here, wondering, "What on earth is Mike Seaver doing up at the pulpit?"

I have a favorite verse from the Psalms, and it says, “Snatch me back from the jaws of death. Save me so that I can praise You publicly.” You see, I was literally snatched from the jaws of death. When I was 16 years old I was – my boyfriend and I were out on a date, and just a normal, you know, normal, regular, run-of-the-mill date. We had gone for pizza, gone to a movie, and we had gone back to our little town. And I’m going to tell you a couple things about my little town in just a minute. But we had gone back, like we always did at the end of the date; we went to the local drive-in, we got a milkshake, mine was chocolate, his was peanut butter, and we went to the riverfront that was right smack in the middle of town. Now the newspapers would report that we were on an isolated lover’s lane. I’m telling you, that was wrong. Now I have heard that there are some isolated lover’s lanes in the vicinity; I’ve never been to one of them. But the riverfront in Madisonville is where all the action happened, as much action as a town with like 800 people can have.

I can see we have a few seniors here tonight and I’m delighted because as you know I am one. I’m constantly being reminded of it when people say to me, “Didn’t you used to be Art Linkletter?” One of my great grandchildren – I have 14 great grandchildren – he’s 10 years old and he said, “Great grandpa, could you come out to my school sometime and talk to the kids in my class?”

I said, “Sure if you want me to.” Later he came back and he said, “What am I gonna say?” I said, “Ian, I’ve interviewed 27,000 children on the air. I have never told one of them what to say because they can think of things that I wouldn’t have thought of or wouldn’t say if I did think of them and so I’ll just leave it up to you.”

I've written a little book, it's not been published yet, on Our Speaker Needs No Introduction. And over the years I have tried to express what I have learned, not only being a pastor and in the academic world but also being at banquets. When I finish here, Ms Thorn and I will go right to Dallas to do my 6,881st banquet and luncheon – more than any man in America.

Will Graham: Well, I grew up in western North Carolina, a small town called Boone, home of Appalachian State University, and as a matter of fact the reason why we ended up growing up in Boone is because my dad – the only school that would accept my dad - was Appalachian State University. It's the only school that allowed him to come in on a probation basis. My dad wasn't the most studious type of person and so Boone became home for us. And I remember when I was very young, about seven years old, we went to a Christian Missionary Alliance there in Boone.

Psalm 84: "Blessed are they that dwell in the house; they will be still praising Thee. Blessed is the man whose strength is in Thee, in whose heart are the ways of them." And I notice very carefully these words that we're going to look at this afternoon. "Who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well, the rain also filleth the pools."

I guess it was about two years ago or so that I was traveling from Nashville to Dallas. I’ll never forget this trip because something really unique and interesting happened while I was traveling. I was at the Nashville airport, and I was getting ready to get on a flight to get home to Dallas. I had one of my little boys with me at the time. It was his birthday weekend, so he was traveling with us on that occasion, a special little birthday thing, and, of course, my husband, Jerry, was there. And so you know all the chaos that goes into traveling with children, and so I was gathering up bags and everything as they called for the people to start boarding the flight.

Partial Transcript:

Phil Waldrep: Well Mark Hall of Casting Crowns I want to thank you for joining us just for a few moments just to talk about your life and the ministry of Casting Crowns.

Mark Hill: Thank you very much for having us.

Phil: Well I'm just excited to be able to talk and there's so much that I want to ask and I know things that our listeners want to know. Let's just start with something that I'm sure will interest a lot of our listeners - tell us just how did Casting Crowns come to be? The Casting Crowns we know today. After all you were just a regular guy at First Baptist Church in Daytona Beach, Florida and the next day it seems - at least to some of us - that you were the lead singer for one of the most successful Christian groups in America. So how did this Casting Crowns ministry come to be?

Mark: Well I've been a youth pastor for around 18 years. That's all I've ever done - it's what I want to be when I grow up. I'm not aspiring to be a senior pastor one day. This is what God's called me to do and music has always been a tool that I've used to reach teenagers.
