Spring is in full bloom in NYC and we're loving every single day of it so of course. We know, its been a while but we're back. A LOT has been going on and we're glad that all of you have stuck by us through our mini-hiatus. BTW, if you haven't already, you can also follow our fitness blog. LaMaisonFit, if you have been following us on IG, you would know how important health & fitness is to us.

You know we love a good blazer but the safari look will never go out of style. Whether its a dress, a top or a jacket, safari can be worn year round, so chic! Also, don't underestimate denim, there are so many prints and washes now that can work for day or night! Jeke is wearing Calvin Klein safari jacket, ivory tank, H&M leggings and red wedges. Jeka is wearing white vintage blazer (also seen in this post), Old Navy white tank, Forever 21 paisley jeans and Merona via Target black wedges.

City Life

Hi Lovelies!

I had to gather some things for my trip to Puerto Rico next week! I am so excited but I'll be without my other half *sobs*. One of the things I hate about trips is packing! I don't know if I am taking enough options or if I am taking too much! I'm sure most of you have had this problem before. We had a busy day shopping and having brunch as per usual, haha. Because of everyday is our runway, we could run errands without style. We believe that unless you are heading to gym or gardening, you should be in your Sunday's best. I love that I found these tuxedo bottoms that matched my blazer perfectly. I've always been the classic type with pops of color. Can you tell how adventurous I am? Jeka is more daring in her fashion choices. I love how she combines prints and fabrics. Do you recognize her floral top from a previous post? One Year

We turned 1 yesterday! It seems like its been more than a year since we started blogging because this journey has been so great. We've met so many people and done so many things. We have some great things happening for us that we're so excited about and we can't wait to share with all of you. We know this is where we're meant to be. Fashion has always been part of our lives since probably about 13 years old and its a privilege to share a small part of us with you all. Thank you to all of those that has stuck by us from beginning and of course those who are just finding us now. We want you to grow with us!

Flowers in the Garden

If you know us well, we're not much of a bright colors type of girls. Its winter in NYC, who wears colors? Nonetheless, we thought we'd break away from the concrete jungle's dress code and bring some brightness to a cold, gloomy day. We were also on a shoot with an upcoming plus model all day so we snuck in some photos, at this point we were both exhausted and freezing, not sure if you cant tell in our faces. Many people will ask why Jeka has been wearing leggings more often and if you follow either of us on Instagram (links below) you'd know that we're both on a fitness journey and basically nothing fits. Yay! for us but clothes are getting scarce so we make do with what we can. Stay with us and follow how we make our bigger clothes, flatter for those princesses who are struggling as well. In fashion there is always a way!

Best and Worst: Oscars 2013

Just like that, awards season has come to an end but the red-carpet fashion stays forever. While we weren't amazed by the carpet this year there were a few that stood out for us.

Amy Adams in Oscar de la Renta was one of very few who went for the old Hollywood look last night We love the powder blue against her pale skin and ginger hair. Everything was very simple but it was such a quiet elegance.

Sandra Bullock in Elie Saab Couture. Everything is right about this look, even the hair behind her ear.

Halle Berry in custom Versace. We'd first like to mention that Halle Berry is 46 years old and everyone always complains about her going practically naked to award shows. We never complain, she hot and she can flaunt it. This ensemble lets us forget the disaster she wore at the Globes. See Halle? You can be sexy without being naked!

Jessica Chastain in Armani Privé is flawless. This gown hugs her body in all the right ways. Though she wasn't a winner last night, she looks absolutely golden.

Jennifer Garner in Gucci was another who took a risk. Some are not of fan of the bustle but she definitely wore this look correctly. She wore the dress, the dress didn't wear her.

Sally Field in Valentino Couture. Ok, so pretty much all of the stars should be ashamed that Sally is probably one of the best dressed at the Oscars. She is very much covered up but she looks stunning.

Charlize Theron in Dior Couture (clearly she wasn't going to wear another designer) shows off her pixie cut. We definitely sense a trend here, we're waiting on who else will do the big chop. Charlize looks very sleek and long and she's perfect so there really isnt much too say here, is there?

Ok now on to the good stuff...

Anne Hathaway in Prada. Tsk tsk, we never thought we'd see the day that she would be in our worst dressed. It isn't that the gown is horrible its the garment construction and that unnecessary necklace she is wearing. This dress could have done without the side seams, should have be about 1/2 inch longer and those awful bust darts should have been lowered because her boobs look like cones. Yeah, we said boobs. Bewbs.

Melissa McCarthy in custom David Meister. It appears to be jersey fabric or a grey trash bag? There really are no words. There are plus size designers out there that will make you a spectacular gown or you can always get a non-established one, like Jeka. CALL US!

Kirsten Stewart in Reem Acra. Leave it to KStew to ruin a perfectly gorgeous gown. The issue isnt that she showed up in crutches, the issue is that she rolled out of bed, decided not to shower, brush her hair or wear concealer for that matter and then decided to throw on a gown. GIRL WHAT?! SOMEONE GET HER A BRUSH! She had such a great awards season last year and shes just taking one giant step back with this. It really annoys us how she tries so hard at not trying hard. Hey, if you hate Hollywood so much, get another profession!

Love @ First Click

It all started with Catfish. As most you already know, we're on twitter and through fellow blogger CeCe of The Big Girl Blog, the weekly #catfish convo commenced. How could you not love Catfish, btw? Every episode is like a mini-anxiety attack just hoping that the one they fell in love with via interwebs is really who they say they are. We are all hoping for that maybe because we hope for that for ourselves.

The lovely lady behind the twitter handle @eFlirtexpert, is author Laurie Davis who actually is, an expert at e-flirting. She has worked with nearly a thousand clients since the launch of her consultancy. Who wouldn't want advice from the girl who found love on Twitter?! How could you not fall in love with Laurie? She's a sweetheart! She is the prime example of the possibility that maybe love isn't waiting for you on the train.
Laurie decided to pen down all the rules for the ultimate guide for online dating (for those of us sitting, waiting, wishing...in our jammies) with the ever so clever title, "Love @ First Click".

We've haven't finished the book yet but she has some AMAZING tips on mistakes that I'm sure we've all made even when dating IRL. Its a fun read and straight to the point! At the launch she gave us several tips for first dates that we may just put into practice. Love at First Click: The Ultimate Guide to Online Dating can be found on Amazon and its also available on kindle.

Since Laurie signed our copies after we already ordered one, we're going to do a giveaway for one lucky lady/man looking for love. Finding Nemo

Though we’re identical we rarely dress exactly alike. I think the last time we wore the same dress it was 1995, when our parents thought it would be cute or just dreaded the idea to buy separates outfits for us. Now that were are in our “ahem* twenties, our selections are different but there are times in which we own the same top or dress because we both loved it so much it would be crazy to share it! We recently went on shopping trip and fell in love with this mineral wash button up from Forever 21 (find here). BTW, this location has a great selection for +ladies and we’re so glad we found it! See our own spin on how to wear this fall must have that has been updated for this spring season.

P.S We always wear heels in a blizzard.

Sunday Brunchday

The new year is in full swing and Spring is almost in the air. We usually get together once a week with our friends to catch up. We decided on alternating our brunch spots each week, a place we've haven't been to. Although we like to frequent certain places, NYC is full of art and cuisine and we have to try a new spot at least once! This Sunday we had an incredible meal at PopOver. Located in the Upper West side, this quaint restaurant has a delicious brunch menu. From coconut french toast to cobb omelets, this place hits the spot when craving a home cooked meal.

Of course, we couldn't just roll out in our laundry clothes. I opted for a refreshing mint blazer against a grey legging to keep my legs warm. Jeka wore asos leaf legging with a black waterfall blazer. Here are some photos of our day with our dear friend Steph. Been friends for 14 years! Don't you just love her rhinestone sheer top? I'm obsessed with embellishments on anything. Hope you enjoyed a peek of our daily lives.

Holiday CuppyCakes!

Company holiday parties, family or friends holiday parties and you promised to bring baked goods. Who has time for that? Unless you're a stay at home mom or retired, no one really has time to actually bake from scratch. With the right boxed recipe and decor you can make your cupcakes look like you're a Martha Stewart in the making, minus the convicted felon aspect. HomeGoods is a great place to find...well, home goods. We found this super easy and super delicious red velvet cupcake mix (120 calories per cupcake, less if you use healthier ingredients and low in CARBS!). You can leave them sans frosting if calories are your concern or use a minimal design like we have to still have frosting but without the guilt. Add festive cupcake toppers and the end result should be cute and oh so good cupcakes that will have the office wanting more. Just tell them its an old family recipe. Shhh...

We used olive oil, 2% milk, & fat free cream cheese to lessen calorie and carbs.

The Color Purple...& Navy

The weather has been pretty crazy in NYC lately. One day its like April 25th, and all you need is a light jacket. Other days you feel like you're reaching hypothermia. Ok, I may have exaggerated a little, but its cold! It was the perfect day to visit our backyard in fall colors. I love my chunky sweater, love it so much I have it in two colors! Who needs a snuggie, when you can curl up in this? I must admit my feather tank was purchased in the summer and I haven't had a chance to wear it until now. I guess I was trying to find the perfect cargo skinny to pair it with. Did I mention, I'm in love with the color purple? Such a rich color. What are your favorite fall colors? xo, Jeke

As you know Hurricane Sandy in the East Coast affected millions of us in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. We were one of the fortunate ones that made it without flooding or severe damage. We sympathize with our fellow New Yorker's, NJ and CT that lost their homes, families and/or electricity during the storm. We now have to face the next few weeks with bravery and patience as we try to regain our rhythm. We know that a large part was not affected personally in New York but we must not forget the rest of our family and neighbors. We hear your cry and we're here to help in any way we can. If you wish to help in you may:

Volunteer at a shelter, which could be a public school in your area. Visit www.nyc.gov for more.

Donate blood to the Red Cross as blood supplies are low due to canceled blood drives. Monetary contributions can be made at www.redcross.org, call 800-Red-Cross or text the word "Redcross" to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

As I was deciding which outfit to wear for a night out with friends, I realized that I had recycled most of my "clubbing" clothes. In a moments panic, I decided to make a minor adjustment to this amazing color blocked skirt I got at Forever 21. The white panel should be in the middle but I took a risk and shifted the skirt so that the white panel was on the right side. Just another way to be innovative with what you already have in your closet. Adding a peplum blazer and basic tank brought this look together. Try to see what adjustments you can make to your favorite pieces without having to spend a dime! xo, Jeke

NYC weather today was perfect for shooting, of course after running around with our nephew with his Spiderman scooter we missed most of the sun but I think we still captured some beautiful scenery. The Harlem Meer was beautiful too. See what I did there? Just like every season dawns so does fashion and Autumn is my personal favorite because the possibilities are endless! I combined my Calvin Klein ensemble (similar here & here) in neutral hues with a thrifted faux-croc jacket, Merona wedges, Olivia + Joy chain bag (similar here) and a gold chunky necklace (similar here). I think I'm channeling a little Ralph Lauren uniform here. Hmm...

Funkshion Fashion Week 2012

We went on trip for our 25th birthday to the "party in the city where the heat is on, all night on the beach till the break of dawn." If you haven't figured it out, MIAMI! Though it wasn't our first time in the city, this time I wasn't drowning my face into textbooks. On Friday we were invited to Funkshion Fashion week, which coincidentally landed the days we would be on our vacation. We arrived at the beautiful venue surrounded by grass, a perfect set for the Guria Swimwear show, sponsored by Sensa. Every time, I just want to belt out "shake, shake, shake, shake your Sensa." Below are some of our favorite picks!

Of course the Millionaire Matchmaker star Patti Stanger walked down the runway. Mid stride, Patti's bathing suit top popped off under her sheer purple tunic and she panicked, tried getting help to adjust her top and eventually walked off the catwalk. Talk about a grand entrance! Though we love Patti for her bold personality, walking off stage didn't look good at all.

Followed after the Miami Red Dress show which featured gowns contributed by designers such as Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, Calvin Klein and Nicole Miller. Celebs strutted their stuff down the runway to benefit the American Heart Association. To get more info about the #1 killer amongst women, heart disease, go to the AHA website.

I snagged this great lace dress from H&M at an awesome deal and wanted to balance the softness of the lace and color (purple, my fave!) with a bold color. Because it was the Go Red campaign, red, seemed to be the perfect color.

Emmy Awards 2012

Its officially the start of Awards season! For those of you who don't know what that is, the Emmy's are the kick off to all of the award shows such as the Golden Globes, Oscars, SAG, BAFTAs etc. That only means one thing for all of us: Red Carpet Fashion!
A plethora of beautiful gowns and tuxes, we can't forget our men, walking down the red carpet all hoping to bestow the honor of making the best dressed list on Fashion Police.
Now we're no Joan Rivers', but we think our credentials as Designers, Stylists, Style Bloggers and lastly viewers, we can most certainly extend an opinion.

We must say that the fashion at the Emmy's was a little safe and maybe they're saving their best look for the Golden Globes and the Oscars but why not be daring in all red carpets? The mermaid silhouette was quite popular on the red carpet this year, as well as the bateau neckline. The color palette was not as cohesive as other seasons, we had a rainbow of colors this year.

There were many gorgeous gowns but not many that wowed us to make our Best Dressed list, here are the lucky few in order:

Can someone please tell us what is Edie Falco doing to look this great?! She looks like a 20-something bad mamajama! We had to do a double take to make sure it was in fact Edie. The 49 year old Nurse Jackie star is wearing Stella McCartney and has basically shocked the world.

Lucy Liu in Versace. We love that her "comeback dress" was this bold gown made of metal. Of course Lucy doesn't age and looks great in a paper bag but this was one of the talks of the carpet.

Our Modern day Little Mermaid, Sofia Vergara! This Latina woman knows how to make a statement anywhere. One of the many few that decided to take a risk in this aqua-teal Zuhair Murad gown, that hugged all her right curves. Those dangerous curves gave her a wardrobe malfunction just 20 minutes before Modern Family won their Emmy. We were all hoping she would go for an up-do this time around but it definitely worked. We're looking forward to what she has in store for us for the Golden Globes.

Don't you just love Ginnifer Goodwin? The Once Upon a Time star truly is Snow White. This A-line Monique Lhullier gown was absolutely lovely on the red carpet. It was so her and even the shoes were perfect! This orange color looked great on her skin and her pixie haircut pretty much gives her liberty to wear just about anything. Though, we'd still love to see her in a form fitting gown to show off that curvaceous body!

Leather. Strappy. Chic

You all know how much we love blazers. Tip for any woman or man, a blazer can make any outfit casual or dressy with the right touch. This Calvin Klein tuxedo blazer has leather sleeves, collar and lapel. I paired it with a basic white tee, Michael Kors belt and Torrid strappy sandals. Sandals in Autumn?! Yes! I had to take advantage of the little bit of sun we have left before the equinox is in full bloom, which Jeka and I cannot wait for. This look is simple but a statement blazer can make you look oh so chic!

Homework for all: Invest in a well tailored blazer, its a fashion staple. We'd love to see your looks, send/tweet us photos with your blazers.

Farah Angsana Spring 2013

I was fortunate enough to actually work this fashion show backstage doing media check-ins. I've actually worked quite a few shows and as much as I love being an invite to fashion week, backstage is where the magic happens. The models, hair and makeup, PR reps in a frantic state, the beloved volunteers who make shows happen swiftly and alas the collection just eagerly waiting on a rack.

Witnessing a designer send off her baby to her first day of school is a great moment to witness. As designers, we work so hard and are stressed out all year round and its a wonder how we keep our cool.
Here comes Farah Angsana, though it should've been her most anxious moment, she came in strutting in her heels and rocking her luscious hair with confidence. She has natural wind-in-hair, which is every girls' dream. I also have to add how everyone commented on how nice she is and how thankful she was for everyone who worked on her show.

Showtime! Look after look came down the runway and I immediately saw the Latin influence in this collection. Angsana is an expert of being influenced by her travels, a trait that ever designer should have. Vivid colors, crystal embroidery and beading were featured in every look and there was even a round of applause before the show was even over. The final gown stole the show and seeing the craftsmanship up close, I could see why. It is exquisite.
As a Latina woman, I have to say Farah captured the essence, we are simple yet bold and love to be seen and that is exactly what she embodied. I cannot wait for next season because I know she is going to wow us yet again.

Marchesa Spring 2013

Its safe to say that Marchesa and La Maison Deux has been on the same creative spirits. Jeke and I have talked our ears off about designing our one of a kind Saris for a future shoot and to see it actually come to life through one of the best design houses in the world, is truly inspirational.

Marchesa took us to India for Spring 2013. Imagine NYC streets full of vibrant colors, embroidery, fringe, draping and luxe fabrics galore! Some may have thought this collection to be too literal but I definitely see Bollywood with the essence of Marchesa. I think we all know when Marchesa is in the building. This collection truly is too beautiful for words, they never, ever disappoint. Ever. How many evers is that?

Alexander Wang Spring 2013

Alexander Wang is one of our favorites and we would basically do just about anything to have any piece that went down this season's runway.
The Spring 2013 collection is futuristic, geometric, structured and fluid a-la Tron. The neutral color palette is a lot of what we've been seeing down the runways and you can never go wrong with that.

Wang never fails to impress and is an enormously innovative designer, using invisible fish-line to hold together the dresses. Of all my years in design school and ~~salivating~~ studying over designer collections, I have never heard nor seen that happen. It is truly the epitome of art through fashion.

Can we talk about the footwear? Yes? Ok. Love the use of the gladiator shoe contrasted with the future, making the gladiator look brand new.
For the grand finale, the lights were dimmed, a black light was lit and all of the white garments glowed. Talk about a show! I'm excited to see what Alexander Wang has in store for us for next season.

Launching his career in 2009, Prabal Gurung is a rising designer that we've come to admire. Well, who doesn't admire a designer that has dressed the likes of Michelle Obama? Personally, I'd love to raid our First Lady's closet.

Gurung has struck gold again with this collection. This woman is powerful and dominant yet sexy without having to bare her body. Of course, with precise and impeccable tailoring. I for one, LOVE an amazing tailored jacket, pant and skirt and anything with structure really.

It has a very Eastern feel, tunics paired with pants and a play on black on black and white on white. You can do so much with so little with added bursts of hues and a juxtaposition of texture. A lot of that has been seen on the runway and we're only on Day 3!

Why the Caged Bird Sings

My bird in a cage necklace always gets me attention. I bought this in target a couple years ago becauseI thought it was adorable and the finish seemed vintage. The bird does move but sadly I cannot open the cage! I want to believe that this bird brings me lots of positivity yet it also gives me a sense of freedom. How does that song go again? "I'm like a bird, I want to fly away..."

This week Jeka and I weren't able to shoot together but we wanted to show you that anyone can wear shorts! I cannot stress enough that the right length of shorts can actually elongate your body. See how long my short legs look in these? Plus, summer is almost over so I had to wear my shorts before it becomes too chilly. This blue top is probably one of my new favorite. Happy Birthday America!

Yeah, it's a party in the USA! Its like a bazillion degrees out here in NYC and while most of you are roasting under the sun at a BBQ we decided to take a short stroll in the park. Boy was that a bad idea! We were sweating the second we stepped out the door. Luckily, we are only a couple short blocks from our backyard Central Park. Here is how we paid tribute to this wonderful country we live in. Its one of the only times we rep our patriotic colors. That and Dominican Independence Day! Soak in the sun and enjoy the burgers! Our favorite designer Alexander McQueen, though he may not be with us anymore, has still been going strong. This 70s inspired collection is a derivative of our own style, MENSWEAR!
