I used to worry too and then, suddenly, I decided it was just dumb to be pre-occupied for something so out of my hands.

Working as a Substitute Teacher makes me feel as a doctor... a medical doctor. Substitute teachers work on call, sometimes the schools call the day before, sometimes the same day early in the morning. You have to be always ready to stop whatever you are doing and just go and save the day. If you are decided to be a Substitute Teacher you will have to manage the stress of working "On Call".
I particularly love it!

I said that I was going to write by themes, I assigned specific days to those themes, I had tens of ideas, I planned for those ideas.

Then "The Universal Energy" or whatever, took me in its hands and my "Take" as a Substitute Teacher started and... I am loving it!

I hate to be a bitter woman, to talk or interact with bitter persons. Sometimes I catch myself living in a vicious circle of bitterness, thinking about the things that could have been, comparing myself with other people.

And then I find a human being, like Marsha here, so full of "Clean Energy", that I realize that Sweetness is the secret ingredient, the philosopher's stone, the missing link.

She was an oasis of peace in the middle of a chaotic Friday's afternoon.

Odio ser una mujer amargada. Odio hablar o interactuar con personas amargadas, que van por la vida regando veneno. Algunas veces me sorprendo cayendo en el circulo viciosos de la Amargura, pensando en las cosas que pudieron haber sido, comparando mi vida con otras, concentrandome en la amargura de otros.

Pero entonces me encuentro un ser humano como Marsha (en la foto), llena de dulzura, de calidez, de "Energia Limpia", y me doy cuenta que la dulzura es el ingrediente secreto, la piedra filosofal, el eslabon perdido.

Today's House is located in the French inspired neighborhood of Normandy, in Miami Beach. I believe they call this house the "Reef House". I grew up in a little Cuban Village, where millionaires from around the world build mansions using this oolite limestone, extracted from the coral barrier that zigzag all around the Caribbean Sea. It is amazing how this material keeps a cool environment inside the houses. Sometimes it can gets too humid, but the air smells different (better) inside the houses build using this Coral Stone. And it looks soooo romantic!!!

I feel lucky that I can look at this picture and (thanks to facebook) know where, how and with whom my kindergarten friends are right now. Before Facebook I used to wonder, remember, imagine everything about my friends; now I know that they are fathers, engineers, having fun, working hard, living their path. As emigrants, they are all spread around the world, Spain, USA, Canada, Italy; living a forced exile, happily adapted or not, and proudly Cubans.

About me, I can only say that I remember every single second about that day, I remember my teachers, all of my friends and that itchy lace dress.

Antes del fenomeno Facebook solia mirar esta foto e imaginar una historia detrás de estos niños de 5 años. Me imaginaba que aquel niño inquieto que corría sin parar, estaría bailando enloquecido en una disco de Ibiza. Fantasiaba ubicandolos en vidas inventadas, preguntandome si se acordarán de mi como yo me acuerdo de ellos. Hoy gracias a Facebook he podido poner historias reales detras de algunas de esas caritas. Se que algunos estan viviendo un exilio forzado extrañando nuestra playa, nuestra archipielago; otros en Cuba... esperando. Me encantaria completar la lista.

Birthday Oceanic / Cumpleaños Oceanico

En mi cumpleaños hice lo que quería hacer.

1-Sola con mi esposo.

2-Un buen desayuno (no hecho por mi).

3-Playa, mar, agua salada, barco, silencio mental.

4-Sola con mi esposo.

Gracias mami por cuidarme a los niños.

Gracias mi esposo divino por llevarme a desayunar tan rico, hacerme reir, manejar el bote todo el dia y salvarnos el bolsillo.

Fuimos a desayunar a Morgans. Huevos Benedictinos con Salmon.

Salimos en el barco con tormenta a la vista. El agua del mar caliente como una sopa.

Se fue la tormenta. Navegamos alrededor de Fisher Island. Atracamos en el banco de arena de Key Biscayne. Nadamos, refrescamos.

No contesté el telefono, mi espiritu me pedia silencio.

Navegamos de vuelta, se nos paró el barco a cinco minutos de la casa. Llamamos al remolcador, el cual nos explico amablemente que el costo del remolque sería de $750.

Cancelada la idea del remolcador. Me ofrezco a nadar remolcando el bote, aunque llegue al otro día. Agarro una revistilla y leo, esperando una solución divina. El barco a la deriva en la mitad de Biscayne Bay.

Mi esposo encuentra el daño. No hay herramientas. Agarra un snorkel y a lo MacGyver arregla el problema y navegamos despacio hasta la casa.

Vamos por los niños. Nos comemos una deliciosa sopa de plátano.

Regresamos a la casa. Me acuesto en mi lado de la cama.

Siento la piel caliente y reseca de tanto sol y agua de mar.

Empiezan los 34.

Las herramientas que nos ahorraron un dineral.

Ruby Red Slippers at the Beach

Me comencé a pintar las uñas hace unos años atrás.

Hace unos años atrás no necesitaba escaparme, salir corriendo buscando refugio en algun lugar. Por eso no me pintaba las uñas.

Ahora cuando descubro un huequito por el que podria caber, me escapo y salgo corriendo buscando refugio en las sillas de masages de los salones de uñas.

Al principio como no usaba pintura la experiencia era buena pero corta. Por eso ahora pido pintura, la más roja, la más oscura, la más difícil de poner, asi puedo estirar la terapia por un ratico más. Además tengo que quedarme bajo la lámpara ultravioleta secándome las cinco capas de esmalte que me han aplicado.

Como me incomoda gastarme el dinero en experiencias efímeras, ando en constante cacería de descuentos, promociones y especiales. Soy usuaria fiel de Groupon, Living Social y Dealtificate.

Este color es Zapatillas Rojas de Rubies de Zoya una marca no tóxica de esmaltes.

Ahora solo me queda encontrar mi propio camino de ladrillos amarillos.

I started painting my nails a couple of years ago. I was proud of my color bare fingers and toes, they made me feel superior. Now, when I can escape from my dailies duties I take refuge in the massage seats of the nails salons. At the beginning I would go without paint, and the experience was good but short.

Now I ask for color, dark, difficult to apply color so I can extend my Zoom Out a little bit more.

Groupon and all the discounts sites are a blessing.

I don't feel comfortable spending money in ephemeral experiences.

Accent / Acento

I have a strong accent. Let me rephrase that. I can barely speak English and when I do I have a strong accent.

So my kids are starting to notice it and now they are the accent patrol.

Son 1, listening to a guy with a Aussie accent on T.V.

Son 1 - Hey, that guy has an accent.

Son 2 - Mommy do I have an accent? (three or four times in a row) mommy, mommy, mommy do I have an accent.

Son 1 - Yes you do!!!

Son 2 - (A little worried) What kind of accent?

Son 1 - A... "Baby Accent".

Tengo un fuerte acento cuando hablo ingles, mejor dicho,cando "trato" de hablar ingles. Mis hijos nunca me habian cometado nada al respecto, pero ultimamente lo han empezado a notar, y ahora se han convertido en los detectives del acento.

Hijo 1, escuchando a un australiano que hablaba en television.

Hijo1 - Ese senor tiene un acento.

Hijo 2 - Mami, yo tengo acento? (pregunta tipo rafaga) mami, mami, mami yo tengo acento.

Hijo 1- Si tienes acento!!!
Hijo 2- (un poco preocupado) Que tipo de acento?

Overwhelming Post / Post Abrumador / Road Trip

Yes, you will be overwhelmed by this post. The same way I was overwhelmed by the city of New Orleans.

We stayed in the Marigny Neighborhood, we walked, we looked around, we ate. We felt the magic, the music in the air.

This post is all about the houses.

I'm a peoples watcher and a house watcher too. So far, I understand that is a family tradition. My grandmother favorite thing to do was to drive around the richest neighborhood in my little town, spotting the houses, choosing favorites and dreaming a little. My mother does this too.

And now I'm the one taking the "House Tour" dreaming in front of anonymous places, imagining that I would be a happier, a different person living in that other house.

Peligro! Usted se sentira abrumado por este post, de la misma manera que yo me senti abrumada por la ciudad de Nueva Orleans.

Esta vez alquilamos un pequeno apartamento en el barrio Marigny, centrico, pintoresco, con casas de mas de dos siglos. El apartamento a diferencia de un hotel, nos permite cocinar algunas comidas, y asi ahorramos un poco de dinero.

Recorrimos Nueva Orleans de pe a pa, caminamos por las calles adoquinadas, absorbiendo la magia que flota en el aire de esta ciudad tan maravillosa, tan llena de musica.

Las fotografias de este post seran todas sobre las casas que pude retratar.

Uno de mis pasatiempos favoritos es manejar o caminar por los barrios de las ciudades mirando las casas, haciendo turismo de arquitectura, turismo de ~~chisme~~ social. Por lo que entiendo es algo que traigo de familia. Mi abuela solia ir de paseo a los barrios mas lujosos del pequeno pueblo donde viviamos, mirando esas casonas sonaba un rato, eligiendo las favoritas, criticando las otras. Mi madre es tambien miembro de este club. Hoy en vez de manejar, navegamos los canales de Miami, eligiendo tambien nuestras casas favoritas, criticando las otras y sonando un poco.

This was our first night at the Carlson Hotel in two doubles, plus a Roll Away Bed.
10 hours sleep. Breakfast buffet with cereal, bananas and boiled eggs and Good Bye.

Una de mis bloggeras preferidas recorre el pais y escribe sobre los hoteles en los que se hospeda. Son hoteles maravillosos, lujosos, famosos.
Pero yo decidi escribir sobre los hoteles donde YO me hospedo. Son hoteles anonimos, a la orilla de desoladas carreteras. El Pedrito Perez de los Hoteles.
Este es Carlson de Talahassee. Dormimos en dos camas dobles con uma camita adicional improvisada. Los ninos comieron cereal y huevo duro en el buffet del desayuno (incluido). Y nos despedimos de esta posada nocturna.

In New Orleans

I've been out of the blog for a few days... Sorry.
My husband had a conference in New Orleans (never been there). His proposal was leaving the kids to my mom and fly, just us for a romantic weekend. I loved that plan, but it was almost impossible, my mom was still working (she is teacher)... school wasn't over, etc. A few minutes passed and I was already weaving goodbye to the Big Easy.
And then a couple of timid words came out of my mouth:

car, kids, drive, everybody.

He stopped what he was doing, looked at me and said.

- Ok.

860 miles, 2 gas tanks and 24 hours later we were walking the French Quarters.
I'll be posting a lot more about this trip. So far these are the pictures taken with the video cam (by my husband)

Hola a todos! Aquí estoy, escribiendo desde New Orleans, pasando unas vacaciones inesperadas, sin planear, completamente sorpresivas.
Hace unos días atrás estaba yo viviendo mi rutina diaria, cuando mi esposo me comenta que tiene una conferencia en New Orleans, que deberíamos dejar los ninos con mi mama y escaparnos a un fin de semana solo para dos.
La propuesta era tentadora, pero casi imposible. Mi mama estaba trabajando (es maestra), a los ninos les quedaba algunos días de colegio. En fin, que ya le estaba diciendo adiós al viajecito.

De pronto me atrevi a pronunciar algunas palabras.

Ninos, carro, manejar, juntos.

Mi esposo paro en seco, me miro con cara de asombro, y dijo.

-Ok

850 millas, 14 horas manejando y dos tanques de gasolina después, estábamos TODOS caminando las calles del French Quarter.
Estaré subiendo mas y mas sobre este inesperado viaje.
