I feel like since the first snowfall I've been talking about what I can't wait to do this summer. Well, it's finally here so I better start checking things off my list! Summers in Wisconsin are so short, I'm determined to enjoy every day to the fullest!

I anticipate spending as much time in the sunshine as I can in bright sundresses & taking time out to relax and enjoy life. I also want to get a little crafty, read a few more books + have a little fun too!

On a side note, my sister introduced me to Karena & Katrina's site, Tone It Up. They are healthy + gorge surfer girls. I'm so inspired by their workouts + recipes. Their site will be my fitness inspiration all summer long!

Memorial Day Must Haves

Seriously, words can't explain how excited I am for Memorial Day weekend! I'm so excited for a long weekend and getting ready for my big move + sister's visit. I plan on spending my weekend at festivals, lakeside, and with lots of local craft beers!

Bedroom Moodboard: Preppy Boho

I know I've been talking about it forever, but the time is finally (well, almost!) here. I've already been dreaming up ways to decorate my new bedroom. It's so hard for me because I'm one of those people that gets bored and wants to redecorate every few months. I've decided I'd be happiest in a room that's an eclectic but pulled together mix of two styles.

This is the mood board I've come up with as the theme for the room:

I've been noticing a lot of bedrooms with what a like to call "preppy boho" decor. It's a combination of chevron stripes and ikat prints, chippendale side tables + sunburst mirrors, printed throw pillows + classic bedding, watercolor prints on the wall + with monogram initals. I would throw in a pinch of surfer girl style!

Some of the designers who do this perfectly are Jamie Meares of Furbish Studio and Jules Reid! I think this look will be tricky to pull off, but will be SO my style.

Saturday Farmers Market

One of the things I love most about living in the Madison area is the famous Saturday farmer's market! I love being able to buy fresh produce from local farmers and all of the buzz around the capital. I took advantage of the sunny summer day to pick up some veggies and fruit for a juice cleanse I'm attempting this week (wish me luck!)!

I love any excuse to wear a pair of cutoffs and my favorite fringed cowboy boots, so I wore a boho chic ensemble and my monogrammed tote to carry all of my purchased goodies!

I love that the busiest booth in the entire farmer's market is the cheese booth (would you expect anything else from Wisconsin? ;). I can never resist picking up some fresh herbs, spinach, and bouquet of wildflowers.

I did a trend spotting post a while back about the knotted shirt trend (which I'm still loving btw!). Now, a new trend I've noticed popping up are knotted maxi skirts. I personally love this as a petite girl, because then it's not so overwhelming on my frame!

Mint & Pink Peonies

Lately I've been feeling nostalgic about my little mint house! I am so excited for my move to "the city" but I will definitely miss the first place I've ever lived on my own. This is the small town where I've learned more about myself, decorated and made it a home, and adjusted to a new life in the Midwest.

I came home today to my peony bush in full bloom from the hot weather we've been having. I couldn't help but notice that my mint pants & pink top perfectly match my little home!

I've been majorly loving colorful pants lately I found a purple pair & the mint pair I'm wearing on a recent Target trip for less than $25! I also picked up a Webster for Target white top, some summery Essie polishes, pretty little notebooks and paint dipped serving utensils!

So much to look forward in the next couple of weeks; blogger wine night with Carly, my move & little sis coming up to help me, and finally.. the start of summer!

LPF Cooks: Honey Lime Chicken Kebabs

The other night I was feeling extra ambitious and decided to put one of my pinned recipes to the test. The weather was absolutely perfect, so I wanted something summery and perfect for dining al fresco!

I tried out a made-from-scratch marinade and made some delicious grilled chicken kebabs on the George Foreman grill (affectionately called, "George" in my house). The boy & I love pineapple, so we grilled some of that as well. For a side I made grilled Mexican corn which was delicious and topped off the meal with some infamous beergaritas.

Admittedly, I usually take the lazy route and do a store bought marinade. I'm so glad I took the extra 5 minutes to whip one up from scratch because it was oh-so-good. We even made a 2nd batch to use as a dipping sauce.

I just discovered the style blog, Pink Peonies, through pinterest of all places! Rachel, has the most amazing effortless style! I so admire fearless fashionistas like Blair, Hannah, Taylor & Alicia who can pull off every trend (check out their blogs if you haven't!).

Anyways, one of the looks I was most enamored by was the printed pants & chambray. I love this combo! I think I'd probably try it with a pair of colorful printed shorts & baggy bleached chambray button down for summer!

I have a tiny confession for y'all, and you can't tease me. I have a major thing for tie-dye. I think it's the boho loving surfer girl in me, but I've always loved it, even when it's not trendy. I am pleased that tie-dye has taken a high fashion turn, I mean even Isabel Marant & Proenza Schouler have shown it in their collections!

I think there's a really sophisticated new way to do tie-dye and dip dyes that's not so much reminiscent of 60's woodstock, but feels a bit more polished. These are some of the pieces i'm looooving for summer.

I'll never forget sitting in a Teen Vogue Fashion U classroom and listening to Tory Burch give a course on Branding. I find her incredibly inspiring to see the lifestyle brand she's created under her name and greatly admire her entrepreneurial spirit. Now, I'm trying to figure out the branding for La Petite Fashionista, first blog, now magazine, hopefully some day a boutique too!

I'm in the process of creating a brand identity for La Petite Fashionista; a stylish & attainable lifestyle for us modern day renaissance girls; lovers of fashion, interiors, party planning, fitness, travel, and lovers of life!

Cinco de Mayo Style + Fiesta Worthy Beergaritas

Cinco de Mayo is one of my favorite celebrations! First of all, I seriously never get tired of Mexican food (luckily K. is always craving it too ;). I can make a mean chicken enchilada when I want to. It's also my bestie, Kelly's (@ hello boudreau) birthday. So I have fond memories of celebrating it w/ her drinking beergaritas (see recipe below) out on the island we'd take a boat out to (ah, the things we take for granted!)

I'm SO in love with the Striped Baja Shorts from Free People. I feel like they'd be such a fun summer wardrobe staple!

As I mentioned above, we used to make some killer beergaritas back in our island beachy days. I made this recipe below (adapted from the Blond Cook) last night for a "Tres de Mayo" Dinner party and they were a hit. These would be perfect for any Cinco De Mayo celebration or a tasty cool-down beverage in the summertime.

I'm not throwing a fiesta of my own this weekend, though this party from the Hostess with the Mostess blog is really making me wish I was!

My friend Sarah over at Events Uncorked has an awesome guide to throwing a Cinco de Mayo party as well! A Mariachi band serenade would be amazing?! Annnd lastly, the music to top off the evening via 8tracks.

Latest Lust: Caribbean Blues

The first time you see the waters of the Caribbean it is absolutely unreal. The water is crystal clear & vibrant shades of turquoise, teal, & sea green. Pictures just don't do it justice! I have my sights set on a Caribbean vacay. For now, I suppose I'll just be inspired by the beautiful colors!

Exciting News for LPF!!

Drumroll please.... I'm so excited to share with everyone that I've decided to launch a digital fashion/lifestyle magazine, LPF Mag! It's something I've been wanting to do for a really long time, and after an inspiring chat last week I've decided there's no better time than the present!

So, what will LPF Mag be about?

Aritcles and stories on everything from fashion, interior design, travel, DIY, entertaining, beauty, inspiring women entrepreneurs + more! The spin on this will be that I want to make everything I feature truly attainable, real, and relatable for readers (think summer dresses for $65 or less, real girl's home tours, parties w/ DIY touches, etc!).

I mean, love a fancy designer dress as much as the next girl, but it's definitely not within my means. I know there are so many readers with a lifestyle like me, who love fashion, party hosting, decorating and still manage to have glamour and style in their life while still being in college, a young professional, or starting a new family! This is why I am so passionate about creating a magazine that features just that.

Beachy Summer Hair & Makeup Tutorial

I never consider myself much of an expert on hair and makeup, but I do have a signature summer look that is my go-to. I love some bronzer, shimmery eyeshadow, subtle & somewhat messy waves and a boho braid. It's easy to do, it's very me and it goes with anything that I'm wearing!

In my four years of blogging I rarely do any video blogs or tutorials, so when GHD asked me to do a hair tutorial, I immediately took them up! They're a great place to buy hair products online. Check out my how-to to get this boho, beachy summertime hair & makeup look for yourself!

I just got Roxy's Summer catalog in the mail and had to share it. The editorial photography is absolutely beautiful and is making me thisclose to compulsively booking a surf escape to Bali. Working in the fashion industry I have a huge appreciation for a way to show product that is inspiring and makes you want to buy everything off the pages. The people at Roxy are pros at this.

LPF Cooks: Healthy Egg White Bites

As I've shared on LPF, I'm on a mission to learn how to cook/bake/entertain, become the hostess with the mostess. One of the biggest challenges for me is finding the time to whip up something that's healthy AND delicious, especially in the morning when I try to devote as much time as possible to sleeping + getting ready.

So, I plan on bringing you all more easy to recreate recipes that I've tested in my own kitchen!

These healthy egg white bites are simple to make, delicious, and HEALTHY (yay).

The best part, is these can be made with whatever's sitting in your fridge and make ahead of time and store in your fridge for breakfast!

Make sure to spray the muffin tin w/ cooking spray & you can also use regular eggs if you'd like!

I liked to experiment with different combos; turkey & feta, mozarella & basil, and kale & garlic cheddar. I also sprinkled some minced garlic in some, and a dash of salt & pepper in others.

Let cool & store extras (reheat for 30 sec in microwave after refrigerating) I'd like to add I tried to make these somewhat healthy, but you could also do a more decadent version (bacon & brie perhaps?)

I know there's a lot of busy fashionistas like myself out there who still want to take the time to make a homecooked meal! You can trust me when I'm saying I'm no cooking expert, so these will be easy for anyone!

Today's outfit felt like the perfect preppy springtime ensemble. I picked up this navy & green striped tank for $12 this weekend and paired it w/ a denim jacket & white lace skirt from last spring. I started a clothing rack of my favorite spring dresses + accessories that make it oh-so-easy to get dressed in the morning!

Dresses with cutouts on the back are one of my favorite spring trends. It's one of those looks that's a great wear-to-work AND happy hour looks. Just wear w/ a cardigan or blazer & flats during the day and throw on a pair of heels & statement necklace for evening.

Summer Date Ideas

I love a night in watching a movie as much of the next girl, but when the weather warms up there's so much opportunity for fun dates and experiences. Take advantage of summer time & summer love and try out some of these date ideas w/ your significant other (or friends!)

I like to take advantage of the local sights and look for groupon deals to try new restaurants and experiences on the cheap. Luckily Wisconsin is full of breweries to visit and quirky attractions (Mustard Museum anyone?).

I'm a big fan of getting out to enjoy the great outdoors whether it's camping and s'more making or kayaking on the lake. I also love the idea of taking mini road trips to get out of town for the day or the weekend (bring these printable couples roadtrip questions!)

Heart Sweater Love

I've always had a thing about hearts! Since I was a little girl I've always signed my name with a big heart after it (see my current signature for all my posts!). So when the J. Crew Heart Sweater came out this winter I of course needed to add it to my closet. As cheesy as it sounds, hearts just make me happy, and I love this peach/tangerine color combo.

Show your Stripes

For a long time I was scared to rock stripes. Maybe it's silly, but hearing that "horizontal stripes make you look bigger" was enough to keep striped tees out of my wardrobe. Thankfully, fashion rules are made to be broken and I now have a closet full of them.

The striped tee is a wardrobe staple, whether a classic b&w breton stripe or a colorful blanket stripe. These are some of my favorite striped shirts for Spring:

You can wear them with absolutely anything. Pair them with jeans for a classic look, throw on a floral scarf to rock the print mixing trend, or with some neon pants to mix and match.

I've always sworn by paper magazines. I have so many inspiration tears and archived issues (thank god I saved my old Domino mags!). I still love the tangibility of magazines, but since I'm so involved in the digital world I naturally love all the digital design and fashion mags online!

These are some of my favorite picks for online mags; some old, some new, all wonderful!

Guide to: Bracelet Mixing

As I've said in my LPF mantra, I always have a wrist full of bracelets. It's kind of my thing. I usually wear a watch mixed with bangles & some colorful bracelets but I like to switch it up all the time. Bracelet mixing can be tricky at times, though I'm here to de-mystify the "arm party" trend (thanks man repeller for coining!)

The trend is really about mixing and matching different materials, either matching back colors to your outfit or the other accessories is always a safe bet. It's all about self expression though so throw on all your bracelets and mix and match until you find a combination you love!

Are you a serial bracelet mixer yourself? I have my college roomie, Brooke to thank for starting me on the trend way back freshman year. I haven't gone back since!

In my new bachelorette pad, space will be quite a bit more limited. I love the idea of using a desk as a vanity area to do my hair and make-up and desk/office space. Stash curling irons, blow dryers and additional make-up in one drawer and pens and stationery in the other to give the space multiple uses.

Try using traditional home decor items to brighten up and organize a vanity area. Trays are perfect for organizing make-up and jewelry, and jars and vases are ideal for storing brushes.
