Last week I had the pleasure of viewing the upcoming boutique range for Boohoo.

For those who have heard of Boohoo before, they stock a huge range of trend and basic pieces for a crazy affordable price. Keeping with this mentality they've just released their boutique range, which is their version of high street. The best thing? It's still all under $100! Winner winner, chicken dinner!

I also got a chance to bedazzle a pair of sneakers :)

There was a great sense of nostalgia as I bedazzled my white sneakers. I'm not the most creative person and have a tendency to overdo bedazzle jobs so I decided to stick with something simple and only a few colours :)

My two tied favourite pieces of the day would have to be the gorgeous green cut out dress and the mint sequinned crop and skirt set (pictured below).

I also loved their take on sports luxe which took the neoprene trend and made it very luxe. I loved the cobalt that ran through this range.

This is possibly one of my favourite latest looks. It is the epitome of my style: modern meets vintage.

But what's better yet is the 90s feel of the overall look thanks to the crop and sunnies, both of which is making a modern comeback.

For a little while now I'd been looking for 90s looking sunglasses but was struggling to find decent ones (ie. not $10 ones that don't do anything in terms of blocking the sun). Luckily for me I was introduced to the fantastic brand that is Sneaking Duck who gifted me these sunnies which are not only the perfect style but does the best job at blocking the sun - dare I say a even better job than my Wayfarers!

Sneaking Duck also do prescription glasses, and their upcoming range features some great natural wood frames. Sigh. If only I could wear glasses without looking like a stereotypical asian. Guess I'll have to stick with my contacts.

Tell us a little about yourself and your blog.
Hi! We are Talyssa and Siree from The Hidden Thimble. Strangely enough, we met at uni through a group assignment (haha) and since then, our friendship has only grown.

Our blog is our little space on the interweb where we can explore our personal styles in fashion and things we enjoy doing in our day to day lives – such as going to cafes, fashion events, travel experiences and venting our frustrations (haha)

How did you first get into fashion and blogging?
Talyssa: I think as a creative/visual person you are naturally attracted to things that look appealing, and fashion falls into this. The first thing that really sparked my interest in fashion was looking at my first Japanese fashion magazine, I absolutely fell in love with how visual and unique everything was – very different to Australian fashion. Since then I loved looking at how people explored their own fashion tastes for inspiration. I don’t think I have one particular fashion style, but I think that is what makes it more fun to me – each day I can wear something different.

Siree: Talyssa and my early fashion experiences are quite similar! I was always interested in Japanese fashion and loved the culture when I was in high school. I remember back then I would see kids wearing “emo” and “goth” -wear and, sadly, thought it looked good… until I saw the Japanese styles! I was always fascinate to try it but never thought I could pull it off and wanted to express myself through the clothes I wore. As I became more invested in being “fashionable” I started to be obsessed with clothing…shoes…nails…

Talyssa: In terms of blogging I’ve had personal blogs on and off throughout the years but nothing that was ever really serious. During my uni years I found myself really enjoying blogs like Xiaxue, watching YouTube personalities etc and that’s really when the idea that blogging was something I might like to try out started. Siree was fortunately on the same wavelength and the brainstorming began.

Siree: I was always a reader of blogs; I never felt I was a confident writer. In uni we had to do a lot of writing on social media sites because of our course so that helped me ease into the blogging style and I found it fun. I kept on showing Talyssa all the fashion styling photos I found interesting and vice versa to the point we had so much content we could start our own blog, and we did!

Where are some of your favourite places to shop?
Talyssa: I love shopping online because I can find exactly what I want, there’s a lot more variety and it’s a lot cheaper too!

Siree: Shopping at markets is fun! My favourites are Glebe and Bondi. If not, than I would say online is my go-to destination.

Which bloggers do you look up to and why?
Talyssa: I don’t know if I look up to any particular blogger, but I do enjoy reading Xiaxue’s blog. I know I know, sometimes she takes some things too far, but I like that most of the time she puts jerks back in their place. Plus it’s hella entertaining. I have to say that through blogging I’ve been talking with a lot of lovely bloggers who are extremely friendly! So thanks to all of you lovely people!

Siree: Hmmm I have inspiration go-to bloggers like Shini Park from PARK & CUBE, Sue Lyn from Twist Chic and Pin Chun Kuo from Taipei since I love to browse their website for pretty things to look at. But my favourite of favourites (but a vlogger) at the moment is Jenn Im from Clothes Encounters. She’s got a great personality and an awesome sense of style and she’s tiny like me (except I may be shorter).

Nicole from Blankbird wants to know: How would you spend a day in your city, if you only had a very precious 24 hours to spare?
Siree: I would say take Talyssa on roller coasters all day again because it freaks her out! (haha) But since there’s no Wonderland anymore (yes, remember Wonderland?) I would say food safari. Sydney has some good eating spots; we just don’t have a big enough stomach!

What should we ask the next interviewee?
If you had to pick one tv show or movie where you were allowed to keep all the clothing worn in it, which would it be?

Black is my favourite colour/shade, hands down. It's my failsafe outfit regardless of it being planned or thrown on.

I grew up wearing a lot of black. I did speech and drama from a young age where we wore a lot of blacks as we ran around backstage, and on stage. This continued when I began performing for piano. And between all this performing I went through the "emo" years where I wore only black for a good handful of my teenage years. But now that I'm all grown up my blacks have transformed from the basic tee and jeans to textured blacks like lace and leather.

The best thing about wearing black is the ability to accessories until your heart's content. You can get away with donning loud, statement accessories without looking ridiculous. Although I kept my accessories quite basic with a gorgeous natural rock ring by Jewel Trail and floral heels, I splashed on a loud lipstick. Lipstick is my thing and wearing black ensures that it is the centre of attention.

Last week I had the pleasure to attend Deshabillé x Pink Hope Mother's Day lunch at Pink Salt with my mother dearest (pictured below). It was the first event my mother has ever attended with me and she felt so honored to have had the opportunity to see first hand what I do for my blog - a mysterious online thing I spend a lot of time working on. She was absolutely stoked to see what I do when I attend events - mainly run around taking photos and on my phone - and to meet my friends.

My mum has always been really supportive of my love for fashion and my venture into the fashion world on both my blog and my eBoutique. I'm so glad I was able to give her the opportunity to see what I do and love.

Now onto the gorgeous jammies and loungewear I got to have a sneak peek of.

This year Deshabillé brings to the table several gorgeous new prints in various cuts, think one print but available in shorts, pants, button up shirt, gown - just to name a few.

What I love about Deshabillé is that their jammies and loungewear can be worn out and about, from couch to shops without needing to change is a dream come true for a lazy-bones Maggie. But what I love most about Deshabillé is their annual collaboration with breast cancer awareness community Pink Hope.

Each year Deshabillé collaborates with Pink Hope to create a unique print (the gorgeous pink shorts and collection pictured below) where 50% of the profit goes towards the awareness community.

And finally, the food.

We were served spectacular food from Pink Salt's Mother's Day menu. My mum chose the salmon fillet with fennel salad while I had the chicken with tempura zucchini flowers as our mains. The mains were absolutely delectable but the desserts, oh the desserts, they were the star of the show!

There were three desserts to choose from, I managed to sneak a photo of the third dessert, all of which were gorgeously presented.

My mum chose the coconut and lime parfait - which she loved and polished off completely, and she is NOT a dessert person. I had the Oliver's Twist which had the mouth watering toasted marshmellow with strawberry custard and homemade sour strap. The third and final dessert was the passionfruit meringue - which was gorgeously presented with passionfruit in their shells served with a shot of passionfruit sorbet.

My mother and I agreed we've both never had such a delicious and filling meal - we'll definitely be taking the rest of the family out to try Pink Salt very soon!

A huge thank you to Deshabillé, Pink Hope, Pink Salt and Portobello PR for inviting my mum and I. This was the best mother's day gift I could ever give her.

Recently I was introduced to the fantastic brand that is Oscar Wylee.

Earlier this week I headed out to see what lovely goodies Grace Boutique, Alannah Hill and Maidenlove had installed for us this coming Spring/Summer, and they did not disappoint!

There were some fantastic brands such as Proof Eyewear who are creating environmentally friendly eyewear from wood and recycled skate decks, and Bare Footwear who are creating orthopaedic yet fashionable shoes.

What I loved were the statement necklaces by Coussinet and the stunning jewellery by Bernard De Lettrez from Grace Boutique. I also loved the menswear by Jack London - definitely need to crack onto some of that for the Mister.

I got this gorgeous Three Of Something dress at the Park Avenue PR sample sale a while back. It was an impulse buy and as most of those purchases go, I had nowhere to wear it. I finally found the perfect occasion to wear it after fashion week, to the fashion week after parties I had lined up.

I absolutely love the splits in the dress, it's a trend you'll see coming up very soon with more and more brands doing it. I didn't even realise there was a split up the back until my boyfriend photographed the back of the dress!

I received several compliments that evening about my dress. I'm sad to say I may need to part with this dress though as it's a bit too big for me. Might try to squeeze in another wear first though :)

Recently I paid a visit to the Rumour Mill PR to see the upcoming ranges for Staple the Label, Hunt No More and Somedays Lovin'.

Staple the Label produced a range of gorgeous pieces in bright, bold colours to keep your spring/summer upbeat, with the addition of different textures to keep things interesting. My favourite piece from the collection was the gold shattered metallic shorts - these also come in silver!

Hunt No More didn't disappoint with their classic feminine range. I love their use of leather and sequins, and their chic take on sports luxe. My favourite piece is the W hem brick printed skirt!

Finally, Somedays Lovin' had us dreaming of summer festivals to come with their bohemian injected range. I loved the galactic prints but most of all I loved the crochet halter top. I know where I'm heading for my festival get-up!

This season's matching (or clashing) prints had me intrigued from the get go, despite the lack of prints in my wardrobe. So when I finally got my hands on some prints (most of my prints are floral) I decided to give this trend a go.

Verdict? I think it worked out quite well. I'm most definitely going to try this trend again once I get more prints!!

Last week I headed down to Bespoke PR's showroom to view the upcoming SS13/14 range by designers such as Serpent & The Swan, Ae'lkemi, Jamie Ashkar, Mode Collective - just to name a few.

Each designer had a different style to bring to the table.

Serpent and the Swan, who had quirky jewellery such as the tooth bracelet and show stopping pieces such as the sheer black top with horse head embellishments.

Jamie Ashkar, who had stunning structured pieces in gorgeous pops of colour.

Mode Collective, who had the best collection of boots and heels. (Those pearl classic heels are on my wishlist!)

Ae'lkemi, who failed to disappoint with their gorgeous sequinned and featured gowns - if only there were more events that wearing such gowns were appropriate!

Lauren Damelian, who produced my favourite piece of the day - the maroon peter pan cut out dress.

Caslazur, who had the striking snake skin scale leather jacket and embellished bras.

Dark Horse Jewellery, who had a range of statement pieces to add the final touches to any outfit.

Black and gold is possibly my favourite combination this season. It's simple, sophisticated and works in my favourite colour: black. Although I was always more of a silver person than gold, the wave of gold accessories that hit last year, and has continued even more strongly this year, has made me realise how chic gold can be. I always associated gold with big chunky mafia style accessories but having seen how gold has been laced into clothing and petite accessories has me searching for more gold to throw into my wardrobe.

This perfect gold shift dress, available from our boutique, demonstrates how gold and black work wonders together. I've never received so many compliments about where my dress was from, and now it's finally available for all you lovely people out there (limited stock available, so don't hesitate!).

Tell us a little about yourself and your blog. Piano, fashion, food and travel - these are the four things I love and pretty much gives you an idea to who I am. My blog Blankbird gives you the side of me that's very much hooked on beautiful clothes, inspiring designers, and a journey through my wardrobe!
How did you first get into fashion and blogging? I was studying piano performance at uni but have always loved my clothes and so I started my blog really as a way of exploration, for me to do something out of music. I certainly didn't know what to expect but it's been such an eye-opener so far, meeting and working with everyone that I have - and definitely rewarding!
Where are some of your favourite places to shop? Probably spend too much time window shopping online - I have built up a very impressive 'saved list' on ASOS! Also loving Cameo's designs at the moment and very much looking forward to checking out Alice McCall and Shakuhachi's collections instore.
Which bloggers do you look up to and why? Nicole Warne from Gary Pepper - I've followed her since pretty much the start of her blog and it's simply amazing to watch how she's built herself up so successfully. I love that her photos tell a story so beautifully and they often leave me in wide-eyed amazement.
Caitlin from Caity Says wants to know: what's your favourite holiday destination, why and what essentials would you pack?

Somewhere that takes me away from my everyday life, be it beautiful sunsets at the beach or experiencing the hustle and bustle of a foreign city. At the moment though, I'm dreaming Hawaii - a white sundress, bit of girlie crochet, mix of print separates and comfy sandals for sunshine weather!

I frequently buy things that don't fit me, this is especially so with maxi skirts or dresses. Two Christmas's ago I bought this gorgeous sheer polka dot maxi dress from Cotton On (see dress here) but much to my efforts of trying to wear this dress out without tripping over myself every couple of steps I decided to do something I had never done before, alter the dress myself. I'm one of those people who have grand ideas of alterations but when cut comes to sew the project quickly becomes a disaster. I had huge hesitations of cutting up my beloved polka dot dress but decided it would be for the better, and it was. I can now wear this dress as a maxi skirt and not trip on it - win!!

mbfwa 2013: day 4 & 5.

The last two days saw a variety of high street fashion hit the runway. It was nice to see brands I know and love (and can afford) hit the runway and showcase what they have installed for the summer ahead. Day 4 and 5 brought amazing pieces from designers such as Bless'ed Are The Meek, Phoenix Keating and Shakuhachi, and upcoming designers such as Leroy Nguyen and Inder Dhillon. For me, the stand out was Suboo, hence the overwhelming number of images from their show - it was ridiculously hard to choose the best of that show.

The hump of MBFWA indicated a clear trend across this season - white. From structured white pieces to white pieces as a base for colour and print, it is clear what trend is going to sing through for the coming months ahead. I hope that someone will come up with white pieces that miraculously never stain for clumsy people like me.

The highlight of the day for me had to be the Raffles International Graduate show. To see up and coming designers from Sydney and other parts of the world such as Singapore was a great taste of the talent that I'll, hopefully, grow up knowing. The overall standouts from that show had to be Gabriel Lee and Diyana Kosso, but one of my favourite pieces that I want to steal off the runway was a gorgeous blue dress by Xu's.
It was also really nice to sit front row for the first time - fashion week goal: achieved!

Day one of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA) saw a handful of amazing designers kick off a talent-packed week, giving just a sneak peek of the amazingness ahead. Here's a few images of each designers to show on day one, a taste of what's to come!

The highlight of the day would have to be Aurelio Costarella's installation. The gowns were absolutely breath taking and the hand painted backdrops accompanied the pieces perfectly.

When I first started my boutique and blog I developed it on my strong sense of vintage meets modern style. I always loved wearing pieces that were unique but most of all I loved the demure cuts and silhouettes from an earlier time. However, I encountered a problem quite quickly into my love affair with vintage pieces. Similar to most issues I come across, my size was hard to come by. I would find stunning vintage pieces but nothing ever in my size, hence my boutique which enabled me to find a good home for these gorgeous pieces. I've considered altering pieces to fit, but unfortunately I don't have the time nor the money to have this done on the high frequency I find pieces.

So, when I found this gorgeous skirt on my vintage scout day in Melbourne I knew it was meant to be. It had a unique print, perfect cut and style, and most importantly it was in my size. I paired this skirt with black to draw the attention back to the print. The only issue with this skirt is, it's a bit long for my short stature so I can only get away with wearing it with heels.

The cooler weather is finally starting to settle in and I'm loving it! I can finally crack into my blouses and jackets!

Although I've had the rose printed pussy bow blouse for over two years now it's still one of my favourites. The print is perfect and the sheer-ness means I can wear it transeasonally, and occasionally during summer too.
