AFTERNOON DELIGHT: LEE'S SANDWICHES EDITION

I've been coming to Lee's Sandwiches for years and I've completely forgotten to write an ode to it on the blog. Sometimes I'm not in the mood for anything other than a vietnamese sandwich and a 2 dollar Arizona green tea.

Based in San Jose and family owned, Lee's Sanwiches carries a lot of weight in the world of Asian franchises. Lee's isn't just a sandwich shop it's a brand. Right next door to this place there's a Lee's Landromat and Lee's Dollar Store. I'm still waiting on Lee's Oil Change and Lee's Funeral Home.

Lee's Sandwiches is the Burger King of vietnamese sandwich shops. Except you don't get to have it your way and the vietnamese ladies that work here run their mouth about you like crazy in their language.

I come for the awesome dirt cheap sandwiches and stay for the awesome saran wrapped lunch plates.

I've never tried the desserts but don't let that hold you back. Southeast Asian desserts are the best, said no one.

This is the menu herbs order off of. The sandwiches are twice as expensive and are pre-made by the one white person that works there.

I bought two because I eat like I make money: in large lump sums and when nobody's looking.

Get the teriyaki chicken.

I'm all about good karma. I pick up my dogs poo if we're in public because I don't wanna step in another dog's poo, I only take a penny from the jar at the liquor store if I really need it and I certainly don't ask for water cups at Chipotle and then use them to get soda. Good KARMA.

Anthony was shopping and he picked up a polka dotted chambray for me. Good karma because in return I will turn him into the next David Choe. (He'll be like Choe except he's actually talented and not just rich because of the facebook thing)

I returned some stuff I got for Wendy at "Lucy". I got it for half off but the girl who did the return is an idiot so she put the full price back on my card. I totally got like 30 extra dollars because of it. Greatest feeling in the world and GOOD KARMA.

Jon Buscemi from Gourmet is starting his own signature brand titled "Buscemi." Seems like he's cooking up something big and leathery. Me mentioning this before its official is good karma. (and yes that is a leather skateboard)

(Is it a blogging faux pas to reblog my own blog posts? I did it anyways.)

I posted this about a year ago when I found out that the old movie theater I worked at, Cinedome West, had closed its doors.

I visited the building one last time before developers tore it down and replaced it with a glue factory or a froyo shop.

I have a lot of great memories from this place. I'd bust my behind out here five, sometimes six nights a week selling tickets and scooping popcorn. It gave me gas money and helped me save up for my first camera. This box office used to have long lines full of customers ready to pay 10 bucks for a ticket and another 7 for popcorn. I loved every second of it. (Especially when it was slow and we'd put small videos together, or big videos like Erk Tha Jerk's)

The Cinedome was a stomping ground for young stick up kids, a hangout for drug dealers and sometimes even the place where high school kids came to have sex. I can't tell you how many times we broke up fights or kicked kids out for doing it or smoking pot inside an auditorium.

We played movies too.

The building's just an empty shell now, no projectors or soda fountains. Just remnants of what used to be.

Farewell Cinedome, you taught me the value of a dollar.

HABITAT FOR AFFLUENT HUMANITY

Every year Palo Alto auctions off a bunch of these modern designer clubhouses to the rich kids in the area. The money goes to poor kids, sometimes. This one is designed by German designer "Clubhoushwitz."

Starting bid is $50,000. They end up selling at around $150,000.

Rich kids spend the equivalent of your life savings on their clubhouses before they turn 16 and start doing blow. With all that said, they're still not as awesome as you and I. I promise.

Its equipped with an emergency light, wifi and air conditioning. I've been working in Palo Alto for about 6 months now and I've learned something about all of these rich people. They have wayyyyyy too much time and money on their hands.

The same guys who built this baby mansion are currently working on Facebook's new East campus. Thank you and good night.

ANTHONY SOLANO ARTIST/DAD/CHICKEN FARMER

I spent the day with Anthony Solano at his house in San Jose.

This guy never stops doodling. This time he's drawing a prototype for a hipster grill where you can cook tofu and quinoa at the same time.

Anthony painted this on a piece of cardboard when he was 20 years old and broke. He's gotten various offers from buyers when he's shown it in galleries but none have been successful. "I just can't put a price on this one" he says.

It's exactly what it looks like.

This is the painting he proposed to his wife with. He never explains his work he just makes you look at it and take it all in.

First off everybody has to have a dope pair of swimming trunks for the random pool dips and boardwalk strolls with the fly honey dips. I keep a tallcan handy, it's gonna get really hot this summer and beer seems to cool me down really fast. If you're into streetwear keep at least one Supreme accessory on you for the love of the culture. Don't freak out at the sight of the Mossberg 500, school shootings and marathon bombings are going on all the time and victims who shoot back live longer. The trucker hat is back and with the mesh design it keeps your dome cool. If you still don't have a ham snapback email me about it and we'll get you one.

The slingshot is there because the Bart Simpson in me will never die.

Cashew Milk is the new Coconut Water.

I was grabbing lunch at Whole Foods with Wendy and as I was getting something to drink I saw these awesome bottles. 13 dollars a piece with the ingredients written on the front in Helvetica. It tastes like the greatest Horchata I've ever had, and it's dairy free for you milk farters.

It tasted even more awesome because it was free. Ruben was nice enough to scribble the bar code off for us and let us have one on the house. It got us hooked man. I'm definitely coming back for more.

You know how they say, "Behind every great blogger there's a beautiful Cambodian girlfriend with Anthony Bourdain-like knowledge of food"? Well it's true. She approves of the Cashew Milk as well.

And last but not least, I'm hooked on the Japanese Streetwear magazine "Common." Japan is the future.

BENNY GOLD, SWORDS AND SUPREME ON HAIGHT

By now I'm sure if you're a fan of Benny Gold you know he just remodeled his store. I stopped by to see it for myself.

Its way bigger now and looks way more black and white.

I love the "Hold Fast to Youth" line. Good mantra for plastic surgeons and rich old white ladies.

Now that Benny has the space he'll be hosting Art shows in his store. Starting with Justin Hagers hip hop puns.

Pretty clever.

A five minute drive later and I was at Miller's Deli. I want to break into tears just thinking about this delicious Reuben. It was everything I could ever want in a sandwich. This place is the greatest East Coast deli on the West Coast.

And then we got our hands on some swords. Not a good idea you guys.

I always roll with Mike because he always has my back. With or without the machetes.

More True drug paraphernalia.

You guys remember how for April Fool's True said the new Supreme store was going to be in the closed Adidas store above Shoe Biz? Josh was the one who photoshopped Adidas to make it look that way. He was telling me people snuck in to the closed Adidas store to see if it was really Supreme. He even said Shoe Biz still gets calls and customers who walk in and ask about it, and even when they're told it was an April Fool's joke they say "No seriously, it's really happening, isn't it?"
