A carcrash of a car with special needs kids was needed to make people aware that these children are put to risk.
Because the contract between the council (who pays) and the travelorganisation doesn't mention winter tires, they're not used.

Autistic boy behind closed doors

Gomey is an autistic young man of 19.
He was taken from his home by a ploceforce of 6 persons and some social workers.

A new social worker spoke not even an hour with him, but arranged a forced admittance to a hospotal, because she considered him to be a danger for himself and others, ãnd suicidal.

Event though he is english speaking and an english hospital was nearby, he was send to a french hospital.
On top of it all he wasn't allowed to see his family for several days.

The family doesn't understand why this happened, as they don't consider Gomey a danger, nor is he considered suicidal.
Even the doctor of the hospital said he didn't see any signs of that.

Gomey still has to stay behind doors for 21 days, as a prisoner.
He is 19, high functioning, but has no say in this.

The family is afraid Gomey will be taken from their care completely and send to a home.
The mother remembered the social worker looked very strange when she heard Gomey was on a diet, and she's afraid that facts will be turned around to take Gomey from her care.

He lost weight a couple of times which was brought to the attention of several doctors.
Since the diet was started Gomey felt better and his autistic characteristics, handflapping for instance, improved noticably.

Even more important: Gomey often told the last months that he felt very happy.

He looked forward to skying a few times more before the end of winter.
He can't.

autism and vaccines, finally

Well, finally it hit the news with more force than in the past, because The Lancet retracted the publication.
There is no link between vaccines and autism, and there's certainly no causal relationship.

We already knew, because no one was able to replicatie the results of Wakefield.

From a statistical point of view 20 cases weren't enough to draw conclusions.

From a research design point of view one was unable to draw conclusions because the design was complete crap. (He studied children who were present at his son't birthday, and no random sample, or grouped design).

Ofcourse there are people who keep telling the world that Wakefield was right.

I'm sorry. When two events, in this case, when vaccines and autism, occur within the same person, that doesn't say anything at all about cause and effect.

These children were delivered in bed... maybe that's the cause? No. Yet, both occured too.

As a psychologist and mother of 4 autistic children I know how hard it is to accept that we don't know anything about the cause yet.
But that's the truth: there's no well established cause for autism discovered yet.

I'm worried, because people belief al sorts of news without even checking the facts.
We've seen what the Wakefield hoax has done with people.
And I wonder how much more nonsense will be praised as it was the truth.

Each day new theories about the cause and cure of autism are launched, and it's like we're in the middle of elections: people chose sides and defend unknown people and researchresults they don't even understand.

It's like people rather hand their autistic child to someone who makes a lot of money with selling fake cures, than to a doctor who carefully tries to understand what autism means and how we can support autistic people.

Oh, ofcourse I want to see everyone cured.
But I also know that we're far from knowing what causes autism.

Research needs to be done in careful small steps, and it costs time.
Too much time!
