<p>OVERLAND PARK—LoRene Elizabeth Schaal, 96, of Manor Care in Overland Park, Kan., died there Tuesday morning, Aug. 30, 2011.</p>
<p>A visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 2, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons, Kan., followed by a service at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Parsons.</p>

<p>WICHITA—Bonnie Marie Schneider, 82, of Wichita, Kan., died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, at Wesley Hospital in Wichita.</p>
<p>Graveside services were held Tuesday, Sept. 6, at the Neodesha Cemetery under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel in Neodesha, Kan.</p>
<p>Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in care of Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel, 704 Indiana, Neodesha, KS 66757.</p>

<p>The daughter of James and Della (Blankenship) Wright, Bonnie was born April 13, 1929, near Lowell, Kan. She was raised in Chetopa, Kan., where she graduated from high school in 1947. She later attended the Wichita Business College.</p>
<p>On Feb. 2, 1961, she was united in marriage to Harold R. Schneider in Wichita. He survives at the home.</p>
<p>Mrs. Schneider was a teller for Southwestern Bell Telephone in Wichita before retiring. She was later a homemaker.</p>
<p>In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, William Selby, Haysville, Kan.; and two grandchildren, Cody and Jason Selby.</p>
<p>She is preceded in death by her parents; one son, Douglas; one brother, Julian; and one sister, Zelma.</p>
<p><span style="color: #339966;"><strong>Lois &#8220;Myrle&#8221; Cary</strong></span></p>
<p>SPRINGFIELD, Mo.—Lois &#8216;Myrle&#8217; Cary, 96, of Springfield, formerly of Edna, Kan., went to be with her Lord and Savior in the early morning of Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, at the nursing home in Springfield, Mo.</p>
<p>She was inurned with her husband at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery on Aug.29, 2011.</p>
<p>Myrle was born Aug. 16, 1915, to Stephen Franklin Cooper and Daisy Mae (Rhodes) Cooper. She was the last surviving sibling of that family.</p>
<p>Myrle married Ralph &#8216;Pete&#8217; Cary on April 14, 1946. and they had one son who survives: Walter Cary and wife Lola, Springfield, Mo.</p>
<p>Also surviving her are her two granddaughters, Alicia Bartlotti and husband Jeremy; and DaNae Belt and husband Andrew;  and two great-grandchildren, Melita Belt and JJ Bartlotti, also of Springfield.</p>
<p>She is preceded in death by her husband Pete one year ago on Aug. 20, 2010; a grandson, Jonathan Cary, in 1978; her parents and seven siblings.</p>

<p><span style="color: #ff00ff;"><strong>Sylvester J. &#8220;Bus&#8221; Becker</strong></span></p>
<p>OSWEGO—Sylvester J. “Bus” Becker, 86, of Oswego, Kan., died at 2:22 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, Missouri.</p>
<p>A Rosary for Sylvester will be recited at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Derfelt Funeral Home Chapel in Oswego with visitation following from 7 to 8 p.m.</p>
<p>A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 1, at Mother of God Catholic Church in Oswego with Father Larry Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Oswego Cemetery with Parsons VFW Brown Bishop Post #704 Veterans Funeral Detail providing military honors.</p>
<p>The family suggests memorials to the American Lung Association or the American Cancer Society in care of Derfelt Funeral Home, 203 Illinois, Oswego, KS 67356.</p>

<p>Sylvester was born Nov. 23, 1924, at Wichita, Kan., to Jacob J. and Lucy (Kerschen) Becker. He served his country during World War II as a Private in the United States Army stationed in Japan.</p>
<p>On Nov. 25, 1947, he married Petronella “Petie” Neises at Saint Mark’s, Kan. They celebrated their 63rd anniversary in 2010, just before Petie died on Dec. 11, 2010.<br />
Sylvester was a mechanic. He worked for 35 years at Studebaker in Wichita and then for a number of years at the Ford dealer in Derby. Prior to his retirement, he drove a truck for Oswego Co-op.  Sylvester enjoyed raising cattle and hay. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and had served on the board of the Mother of God Catholic Church where he was an active member.</p>
<p>In addition to his wife, Sylvester was preceded in death by one son, Wayne Becker, on July 11, 2009; one daughter, Sandra Becker on Sept. 18, 2008; two brothers, Lawrence Becker and Jim Becker; and two sisters, Agnes Armstrong and Joan Rosenboom.</p>
<p>Sylvester is survived by one daughter, Sharon Barton and husband Kim, Joplin, Mo.; one daughter-in-law, Kathy Becker, Wichita; two brothers, Francis Becker and Jerome Becker and wife Rogene, both of Garden Plain, Kan.; three sisters, Stella Clasen, Garden Plain; Catherine Simon, Schulte, Kan.; and Dorothy Downing and husband James, Wichita; one sister-in-law, Ruth Becker, Garden Plain; one brother-in-law, Bill Rosenboom, Wichita; seven grandchildren, Jon Eck and wife Janae, Oswego; Ken Eck, Oswego; Jeremy Eck and wife Becky. Wichita; Tara Foster and husband John, Oswego; Hally Shaffer and husband Jon, Tulsa; Michelle Collins and husband Shawn, Colwich, Kan.; and Heather Jones and husband Jason, Wichita; and 11 great-grandchildren.</p>

<p>EDNA—John R. Foister, 75, of Edna, Kan., died at 10:15 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011, at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Okla.</p>
<p>Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 22,  at the United Methodist Church in Edna. Burial will be in the Edna Elm Grove Cemetery.</p>

<p>John was born Jan. 25, 1936, in rural Edna, to Jesse and Alta (Hayes) Foister. As a young boy, he grew up in rural Edna where he attended Parkville School and was a 1954 graduate of Edna High School.  He worked at John Deere Coffeyville Works as a machinist for 30 years retiring from there in 1993.</p>
<p>He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Edna where he served as a trustee for many years and assisted with the construction of the new church on a daily basis. He was also a member of the Royal Neighbors and was currently serving as treasurer of Masonic Lodge #345 in Edna. He enjoyed playing fast pitch softball, golfing, and following his grandchildren’s sports. He was especially pleased when the LCHS softball team presented him a #1 fan certificate for his continued support through the years.</p>
<p>He and Martha G. Seger were married Oct. 26, 1958, at the Methodist Church in Edna. She survives of the home.</p>
<p>Additional survivors include two sons, Curtis Foister, Coffeyville, Kan.; Barry Foister and wife Tammy, Piedmont, Okla.; six grandchildren, Seth, Kassady, Jennifer, Karolana, Jaymy and Joseph; one brother, Howard L. Foister and wife Jessie, Edna; and one sister, Dorothy F. Ledbetter and husband, James, Edna; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.</p>
<p>He was preceded in death by his parents.</p>

<p>ALTAMONT—Alice A. &#8220;Ally Ann&#8221; Markiewicz, 74, of Altamont,  Kan., died at 3:38 p.m., Friday, Aug. 12, 2011 at her home. She had been in failing health.</p>
<p>Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 17, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont. Burial will be at the Edna Elm Grove Cemetery at a future date.</p>

<p>She grew up and attended schools in rural Labette County and was a 1956 graduate of Labette County Community High School.  She then earned a Bachelor’s degree from Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC. For several years, she was a teacher in public schools.</p>
<p>She married Gale Mandevill. They later divorced. On March 1, 1977, she and Carl S. Markiewicz were married in Las Vegas, Nev.  He preceded her in death June 4, 2007.</p>
<p>Through the years, she had lived in California, Pennsylvania and Nevada before moving to Altamont, following her husband’s death, to be near family.</p>
<p>She enjoyed reading, babysitting and traveling. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Edna.</p>
<p>Survivors include three stepsons, Doug Mandevil, Houston, Texas; Bob Mandevill, Caldwell, Kan.; Garry Mandevill, Caldwell; two stepdaughters, Susie Russell, Tulsa, Okla.; Carol Warner, Carson City, Nev.; 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frank Lee, Andover, Kan.; Charles Lee, Coweta, Okla.; three sisters, Della Davidson, of the home, Altamont; Juanita Craig, Thousand Oaks, Calif.;and Fina Shearhart, Oswego, Kan.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.</p>
<p>In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers.</p>
<p><span style="color: #99cc00;"><strong>Pamela L. &#8220;Pam&#8221; Colbert</strong></span></p>
<p>PARSONS—Pamela L. “Pam” Colbert, 53, of Parsons, Kan., died Wednesday,  Aug. 10, 2011, at Labette Health. Her death was unexpected.</p>
<p>A  memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Carson-Wall Funeral  Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends following the service.</p>

<p>FRONTENAC—Wilbert H. “Bud” Parkison of Frontenac, Kan., died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011, at KU Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan.<span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong></strong></span></p>
<p>Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 6, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac with Father Thomas Stroot as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Mount Carmel Cemetery in Frontenac where the John F. Derby American Legion Post #43 will provide flag folding and presentation ceremonies, nephew Grant Smith will play “Taps”.</p>
<p>The parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., Friday, at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac where the family will receive friends following. The American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary will have the processional walk-through at 6:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home prior to the rosary. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Friday.</p>

<p>Bud was born in Oswego, Kan., on Dec. 21, 1932. The son of Louie “Ted” Parkison and Mildred Horn, Bud graduated from Oswego High School in 1950.</p>
<p>Drafted by the Army in 1953, Bud attended leadership training at the Engineer Officer Candidate School in Ft. Bellvoire, Va. Upon graduation, Bud was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant and served with the Army Corp of Engineers 89th Port Construction Company in Rochefort, France.</p>
<p>After his military service, Bud attended Kansas State Teacher’s College (now Pittsburg State University) and earned a degree in Industrial Education in 1960. He worked in Design Engineering on the Apollo-Saturn V Rocket program, A7 Corsair and C5 Galaxy aircraft programs. In 1971, he became an instructor in drafting and mathematics for the Sabine Valley Vocational Technical School in Many, La. In 1976, Bud was awarded Louisiana’s inaugural Outstanding Vocational Instructor of the Year. In 1977, he became a Curriculum Specialist in Vocational Education for the State of Louisiana.</p>
<p>After retiring from the State of Louisiana, Bud worked as a technical writer for a number of major firms. Upon retirement, Bud and his wife, Loretta, relocated to Frontenac, where he was active in Frontenac’s American Post #43.</p>
<p>Bud married Marguerite Loretta Fox on Aug. 13, 1960, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Walnut, Kan., and she survives at the home.</p>
<p>Bud in further survived by his daughter, Lisa Parkison of Tulsa, Okla., son Mark and daughter-in-law Jennifer Parkison of Weatherford, Texas, and six grandchildren, Herb Hatlee, Jr., Jonesboro, Ga; Mark Hatlee, Griffin, Ga.; and Madeleine, Maria, Matthew, and Michelle Parkison, Weatherford, Texas; a sister, Dorothy Boggess, Oswego; and brothers-in-law, Rollie Burr, Canyon Lake, Texas; and Bill Osborne, Tulsa, Okla.</p>
<p>He is also survived by his Fox in-laws: Frank and Frances Fox, St. Paul, Kan.; Barbara and Bernard Vitt, Tulsa, Okla.; Pat Fox, Walnut; Mary Lou and Don Murray, Pittsburg, Kan.; Frances Eaton, Seneca, Kan.; Sharon Wineinger, Raleigh, NC; Linda and Bill Purdon, Bentonville, Ark.; Tina and Ed Backhus, Sarasota, Fla.; and John and Anita Fox, Girard, Kan. Uncle Bud will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews.</p>
<p>Bud was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ted Parkinson, Jr.; his sisters, Irene Schadel, Jane Osborne, and Kay Burr; and in-laws, Michael Fox and LaDonna Marsh.</p>
<p><span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>Ruth Miller Rice</strong></span></p>
<p>WELCH, Okla.—Lifelong Welch, Okla., resident, Ruth Miller Rice, passed away Thursday evening, Aug. 3, 2011, at her home. She was 82 years old.</p>
<p>A visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, Aug. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, at the United Methodist Church in Welch with Reverend Robert VanHouse officiating.</p>
<p>Serving as pallbearers will be Bobby Unp, Jr., Joseph Unp and Andrew Unp, Matt Rice, Derrick Rice and Larry Fenco. Roger Cunningham will serve as honorary pallbearer.</p>
<p>Ruth will be laid to rest next to Joe at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa, Kan.</p>
<p>Family and friends are invited to vista at Mike&#8217;s home in Welch.</p>
<p>In lieu of flowers, Ruth may be remembered with gifts to the American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Awareness.</p>
<p>Services are under the direction of Jim Thomas, Thomas Funeral Home, Welch, Okla.</p>
<p>Ruth was born Sept. 8, 1929, to Dave and Laura Mills Miller. She grew up and attended school in the Welch area. At a young age, Ruth was employed at Newman&#8217;s Café in Welch. It was there that she met and fell in love with Joe Rice. The couple was soon married and their union lasted until Joe&#8217;s death in 1991.</p>
<p>Throughout her life, Ruth loved the Welch area and was very active in the community. She served as a Boy Scout leader, VFW Ladies Aux., Grange Ins., and Gateway for seniors. She served as Historian of Welch, and was a long time member of the Welch Garden Club.</p>
<p>Ruth was proud of her Native American heritage and was a tribal member of the Cherokee, Shawnee and Delaware nations. Ruth and Joe loved taking their children to Pow Wows, and spent many days in their travel trailer going from place to place. Ruth was very active with her children in school. She especially enjoyed the time spent doing Arts and Crafts with them.  Ruth loved being a grandmother and enjoyed each minute spent with her grandchildren.</p>
<p>A lifelong Christian, Ruth was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Welch.</p>
<p>Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers Gene and Bill Miller; and two sisters, patsy and Wilma Jean Miller.</p>
<p>She is lovingly survived by her two children, Michael Rice of Welch, Okla., and Debbie Unp of Skiatook, Okla.; six grandsons, Robert A., Joseph and Andrew Unp; Matt, Derrick and Cody Rice; one granddaughter, Haley Rice; six great-grandchildren; and many other loving relatives and a host of dear friends.</p>
<p><span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>Raymond E. Cranor</strong></span></p>
<p>COFFEYVILLE—Raymond E. Cranor, 96, of Coffeyville, Kan.,  formerly of Edna, Kan., passed away Thursday, Aug. 4, 2011, at Windsor Place in Coffeyville.</p>
<p>Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, at the Edna United Methodist Church with Rev. Dean Knewtson officiating.  Burial will be in the North Edna Cemetery.</p>
<p>Friends may call on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the David W. Barnes Funeral Home in Coffeyville.</p>

<p><span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>Hiawatha M. Hollins</strong></span></p>
<p>PARSONS—Hiawatha M. Hollins, 67, of Parsons, Kan., died Monday, Aug. 8, 2011, at Labette Health in Parsons. Her death was unexpected.</p>
<p>Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call after noon Thursday at the funeral home.</p>
<p>Memorial contributions are suggested to the National Kidney Foundation.</p>
<p><span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>Joseph R. &#8220;Joe&#8221; Travis</strong></span></p>
<p>PARSONS—Joseph R. “Joe” Travis, 63, of Parsons, Kan., died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, at his home. He had been in failing health.</p>
<p>Mr. Travis has been cremated and there will be no service.</p>

<p>ALTAMONT—Dale L. Lavender, 73, of rural Altamont, Kan., died at 11:15 a.m., Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, at his home, following a courageous battle with cancer.</p>
<p>Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 4, at the First Baptist Church in Altamont. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont. Friends may call at their convenience at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont after 1 p.m., on Wednesday.</p>
<p>Memorials are suggested to the Dale Lavender Scholarship fund to be established for LCHS students. These may be left at or mailed to Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 325, Altamont, KS 67330.</p>

<p>Dale was born Aug. 13, 1937, in Parsons, Kan., to Cecil Elisha and Tressie Sophona (Shira) Lavender. He grew up in the Altamont area where he attended school and was a 1955 graduate of Labette County Community High School. He then attended Kansas State University and earned a Bachelor’s degree in animal husbandry from Pittsburg State University.</p>
<p>Dale and Ruth Marie Adams were married Sept. 8, 1963, in Altamont. They made their family home in rural Altamont where they farmed and raised livestock.</p>
<p>Dale had a love for sports and kids and devoted 45 years of his life to driving a school bus for USD 506. He also spent many years officiating ball games for the kids he loved. Dale was heartbroken when he was no longer physically able to drive a bus, but he continued to stay connected with “his” kids by attending their ball games and taking them out for pizza. Dale especially enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren’s activities and always had time to visit with family, friends and co-workers.</p>
<p>Dale was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altamont where he had served as both a trustee and a deacon. He also supported the Shekinah youth group at his church with his love, prayers, and financial assistance. When he was no longer physically able to help with local mission work, he still found ways to help the workers by providing meals and treats. He served as a board member for many years for the Labette County Farm Bureau Association, as well as serving on many other committees in the community.</p>
<p>Dale is survived by his wife, Ruth Lavender, of the home; one daughter, Tammy Hilderbrand, and husband Keith, rural Altamont; one son, Roger Lavender, and wife Cynda, rural Altamont; three grandchildren, Joshua Hilderbrand, Lori Zielinski, and Kristopher Hawley; and two great-grandchildren, Mikayla and Jadyn Zielinski.</p>
<p>He was preceded in death by his parents.</p>
<p><span style="color: #99cc00;"><strong>Paul J. Bogner</strong></span></p>
<p>PARSONS—Paul J. Bogner, 82, of rural Parsons, Kan., died Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul, Kan.</p>
<p>The funeral Mass was held Friday, July 29, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.</p>

<p>CHETOPA—Evelyn T. Parks, 96, of Chetopa, Kan., died at 11:05 a.m., Friday, July 22, 2011, at Chetopa Manor Nursing Home.</p>
<p>Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. Burial will be in St. Rose Cemetery in Chetopa. The rosary will be at 7 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home where the family will receive friends immediately following the rosary.</p>

<p>Evelyn was born March 23, 1915, in Craig County, Okla., to Nick and Martha (Uhl) Rohmiller. She was a graduate of Welch High School.</p>
<p>Following high school, she taught in one-room schoolhouses, among them Fields school. She also worked as a clerk at Halligan’s, Price’s and Wedding’s IGA, all in Chetopa.</p>
<p>She was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chetopa and its Altar Society.  She enjoyed sewing and gardening.</p>
<p>On Oct. 23, 1934, she and Robert Parks, Jr., were married. He preceded her in death Oct. 27, 1988.</p>
<p>Survivors include one grandson, Mike Miller, Chetopa; four granddaughters, Connie Miller and friend Delbert Charlton, Chetopa; Sandy Henry and husband Jessie, Chetopa; Pam Midgett and husband Jerry, Chetopa; and Nancy McKibben, Chetopa; 10 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-grandchild; one brother, Nick Rohmiller and wife Lavenia, Miami, Okla.</p>
<p>In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Yvonne Miller, in 2006; six brothers, John, Frank, Andrew, Harold, Clarence and Henry Rohmiller; and two sisters, Ann Shields and Esther Lester.</p>
<p><span style="color: #00ffff;"><strong>Jane Ellen Frazier</strong></span></p>
<p>NEW YORK, NY—Jane Ellen Frazier, 63, passed away July 12, 2011, at New York University Medical Center, New York City, NY, after an 18-month battle with lymphoma.</p>
<p>A memorial service was held Wednesday, July 20, at Miles Funeral Home, Winfield, Kan.</p>
<p>Memorials are suggested to the University of Kansas for its Endowment Association for the Phyllis Brill Voice and Opera Scholarship or to the USD 465 Foundation for the Bernstorf-Frazier Memorial Fund to support the music department at Winfield High School. <p>Jane was born to Stephen Keith and Doris Emily Bernstorf Frazier on July 20, 1947, in Norman, Okla. Jane resided in several states throughout her childhood, as her father traveled as a geologist with the California Oil Company. In 1961, however, the family settled on the Bernstorf-Graham farm north of Winfield, Kan. Active in musical and equestrian events throughout her teen years, Jane graduated from Winfield High School in 1965. She continued her education at the University of Kansas, where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1969. A lifelong student of music, she worked as a vocal coach/accompanist and later went on to receive a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts, as well as a Master’s Degree in Voice.</p>
<p>Jane had resided in New York City for the past 24 years. There she worked as a copy editor and continued her musical interests with the Riverside Choral Society. A perennial advocate of the arts, Jane particularly enjoyed all of the cultural interests the city had to offer.</p>
<p>Jane’s survivors include two brothers, Stephen Kendal Frazier, Centennial, Colo.; and John Eric Frazier, Altamont, Kan.; two nieces, Christa Nicole Frazier, Webb City, Mo.; and Kendra Lea Frazier, Columbia, Mo.; two nephews, Jeremy Lee Frazier, Owasso, Okla.; and Stephen Kody Frazier, Winfield; three great-nephews, Braden Andrew Frazier, Jace Warren Frazier, and Colin Graham Frazier, all of Owasso, Okla.; an aunt, Ruth Jean Andersen, Anthony, Kan.; and two cousins, David William Andersen, Kingman, Kan.; and Donald Stephen Andersen, Wichita.</p>
<p>Jane was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Warren Farley Frazier and Graham Phillip Frazier; and two nieces, Angela Lynn Frazier and Erica Michelle Frazier.</p>
<p><span style="color: #00ffff;"><strong>Dottie Coons</strong></span></p>
<p>VINITA, Okla.—Ms. Dottie Coons, 73, of Vinita, Okla., formerly of Chetopa, Kan., left this world behind and entered into Heaven&#8217;s gates on Thursday morning, July 21, 2011, at her home in Vinita.</p>
<p>Funeral Services were held Saturday July 23, at Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Lin Jones officiating. Interment was at GAR Cemetery. .</p>

<p>Dottie was born July 4, 1938, in Whitebird, Okla., to her parents, Fred and Nadine Sooter.</p>
<p>She was a longtime resident of Chetopa, Kan., owning and operating Dottie’s Flower Shop for many years. She was also the co-owner of Huntsman Camper, Inc.</p>
<p>Dottie was a faithful member of Oswego First Baptist and loved her church family dearly. She served as a pre-need counselor for Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home for many years as well. Dottie loved people and was a true servant to many. Several children were blessed with Dottie’s love as she became a foster parent. No child went unloved on Dottie’s watch.</p>
<p>She is survived by one son, Billy Ellsworth, South Coffeyville, Okla.; one daughter, Sheryl Bible, Vinita; 1 sister, Linda Gray, Vinita; four brothers, Buddy Sooter, Hesperia, Calif.; Jimmy Sooter, Fairland, Okla.; Leon Sooter, Miami, Okla.; Johnny Sooter, Fairland; four grandsons and three great-grandchildren.</p>
<p>She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Shirley Thomas, and one daughter, Diana Kay Ellsworth.</p>
<p><span style="color: #00ffff;"><strong>Doris M. &#8220;Dody&#8221; Tidwell</strong></span></p>
<p>TYRO—Doris M. “Dody” Tidwell, 68, of Tyro, Kan., died Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at the Windsor Place Nursing Home in Coffeyville. She had been in failing health.</p>
<p>Funeral services were held Friday, July 22, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont. Burial was in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at Altamont.</p>
<p>Memorials are suggested to the Parkinson’s Foundation and these may be left at the funeral home.</p>

<p>CHETOPA—Rex J. Wooten, 67, of Chetopa, Kan., died at his home Sunday, July 17, 2011. He had been in his usual health and death was not expected.</p>

<p>BLUEJACKET, Okla.—Jason Michael Mayfield, 40, of Bluejacket, Okla., passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011, from injuries sustained in an accident.</p>
<p>There will be a visitation for family and friends from 6 to 7 p.m., Monday, July 18, at the Thomas Funeral Home, Welch, OK.</p>
<p>Services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 19, at the Thomas Funeral Home, Welch, Okla.</p>
<p>A private family burial will be held at a later date.</p>
<p>Services are entrusted to Jim Thomas, Thomas Funeral Home, Welch, Okla.</p>
<p>Jason was born Jan. 18, 1971, in Sacremento, Calif. His parents were Archie and Virginia (Price) Mayfield.  They precede him in death.</p>
<p>Jason is survived by his soul-mate, JoAnn Dunbar, Bluejacket; one son, Joshua Mayfield, Welch, Okla.; three daughters, Kamisha and Tai Callies, Miami, Okla.; Kayla McMinn, Miami, Okla.; and Samantha Mayfield, Bluejacket; 9 ½ grandchildren; one brother, John and Bonnie Mozingo, Chetopa, Kan.; two sisters, Gurlynn Banks, Chetopa; and Vera Lee and Joy Young, Pleasanton, Kan.</p>
<p><span style="color: #00ff00;"><strong>Letha L. Butts</strong></span></p>
<p>CHERRYVALE—Letha L. Butts, 94, of rural Cherryvale, Kan., died at 11 a.m., Sunday, July 17, 2011, at Elmhaven East Nursing Home in Parsons, Kan.</p>
<p>Private funeral services were held with burial in the Mound Valley Cemetery.</p>

<p>Letha was born May 29, 1917, in rural Mound Valley, Kan., in the Penfield area, to Albert and Eliza (Spoonamore) Nelson. She grew up in rural Mound Valley and was a 1934 graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont.</p>
<p>She married Braum D. Butts in 1946. Following marriage, they lived in Kansas City, Kan., until returning to Mound Valley in 1950. He preceded her in death in February of 1980.</p>
<p>She was a member of the Mound Valley United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, Homemakers Club, Over 80 Club and the Mound Valley Booster Club. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and quilting.</p>
<p>Those surviving include three sons, John Butts and wife Barbara, St. John, Ind.; Joe Butts, of the home, rural Cherryvale; Jim Butts and wife Becky, Cherryvale; one daughter, Jane Larsen and husband Tim, Springdale, Ark.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.</p>
<p>In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.</p>
<p><span style="color: #00ff00;"><strong>Harold J. Kiister</strong></span></p>
<p>OSWEGO—Harold J. Kiister, 76, of rural Oswego, Kan., died at 11:55 p.m., Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at Oswego Hospital.</p>
<p>Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, at Bartlett Christian Church. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery near St. Paul. Friends may call at their convenience at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont after 9 a.m., Monday.</p>

<p>Harold was born on Sept. 5, 1934, in St. Paul, Kan., to Otto and Susie (Brainard) Kiister. He grew up and attended school in St. Paul, where he graduated from St. Paul High School and later earned an associate’s degree from Neosho County Community College in Chanute.</p>
<p>For a time, he worked at Ewen Motors and Hy-Grade Construction before joining the U.S. Army. Kiister served his country during the occupation on Germany, stationed in Berlin, where he met and married Renate Rux. They later divorced.</p>
<p>Upon his honorable discharge as a disabled veteran, he returned to St. Paul, where he worked at Hy-Grade Construction. In 1986, he began his own auto mechanic business and also farmed five miles west of Oswego.<br />
He was a member of Bartlett Christian Church, Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion in Parsons, American Model Airplane Association and Senior Citizens Bowling League in Parsons. He especially enjoyed nature, being outdoors, flying model airplanes and bowling.</p>
<p>He married Goldie (Reed) Addis on Dec. 23, 1986, in Miami, Okla. She survives of the home.</p>
<p>Other survivors include three sons, Lonie Addis and wife Crystal, and Donie Addis, all of Oswego; and Pernell Addis and wife Jeanie, Belmont, Calif.; a daughter, Edie (Addis) Russell and husband Jerry, Chetopa; seven grandchildren, Karmel Puzzuoli, Battle Creek, Mich.; Rye Addis and wife Ke’olani, Oronogo, Mo.; Amber Hayslip and husband Michael, Pittsburg; Blaire Seigel and husband Josh, Carl Junction, Mo.; Amy Addis, Sedan; Jerad Russell, Kansas City, Mo.; and Markle Addis, Belmont, Calif.; five great-grandchildren, Stella and A.J. Puzzuoli, Kaitlin and Kale Hayslip and Alexis Seigel; and a sister, Millie Johnson, St. Paul.</p>
<p>He was preceded in death by a brother, Amel; a sister, Beulah Kueffler; a granddaughter, Jenny, in 1997; and a great-grandson, Boyce, in 1996.</p>
<p><span style="color: #00ff00;"><strong>Donald E. &#8220;Donnie&#8221; Carter</strong></span></p>
<p>ST. PAUL—Donald E. “Donnie” Carter, 71, of St. Paul, Kan., died Sunday, July 17, 2011, at Labette Health in Parsons, Kan.</p>
<p>The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 20, at the St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul with Fr. Thomas Leland officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. The rosary will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday, at the church, where the family will receive friends immediately following the rosary.</p>

<p>PARSONS—Donald C. Lyons, 61, of Parsons, Kan., died Friday, July 15, 2011, at the Robert J. Dole VA Hospital in Wichita.</p>
<p>The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 21, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. At the conclusion of the visitation, a brief service will be held with the Rev. Riley Cartwright officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery at a later date.</p>

<p>A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, July 23, in the First Christian Church Fellowship Hall in Parsons.</p>
