Your wig’s hair style is determined by hair density, color texture and cut. Hair density refers to how much hair is sewn on a wig cap to create thickness and fullness. To create a fuller density lace wig, more hair is used and more strands of hair are knotted in each hole. Lighter density lace wigs use less hair and less strands of hair are knotted in each hole.

Medium density is the average choice (100%-130%) and suitable for most women. It is the most popular density requested for lace wigs. Lace wigs are typically made with a lighter density at the front hairline and gradually increases thickness throughout the rest of the wig. It is advised to have more hair than less because it can always be thinned out. Medium density hair also accommodates normal shedding from daily grooming. Wigs with density less than 80% are not recommended because they need to be repaired more quickly.

The perception of density is determined by the type of hair used, texture and how it is styled. For example curly hair creates the illusion of volume and fullness. Curly, wavy and kinky textured hair expands when combed out. Very straight hair textures have less volume and fullness. Therefore, two wigs with the same exact hair density will have different looks in volume based on the hair style and texture. Hair spray, highlights and layered a hair cut also adds volume to hair.

See Lace Wig Hair Density Chart

A full cranial prosthesis is a wig for people dealing with long periods of hair loss or has permanent hair loss due to a medical condition. The wigs are hair replacement units which offer a natural looking appearance and the feeling of wearing real hair. Medical conditions attributing to hair loss are chemotherapy treatments due to cancer, trichotillomania and alopecia.

A full cranial prosthesis not only conforms to the shape of your head. It also can be parted and styled in any manner desired, as with your real hair. The wig cap construction will accommodate the re-growth of your natural hair following the treatments and has a special non slip material for added security. Wig caps used for full cranial prosthesis can be either full lace or thin skin. If you have hair loss, it is recommended that you select a custom wig with your precise measurements for the best fit.

Some insurance companies reimburse for the purchase of medical cranial hair prosthesis. Many insurance companies will not cover the term “wigs”. It is important to use the correct wording (medical cranial hair prosthesis) in the prescription in order to get reimbursement. Contact your doctor to see if you hair loss condition warrants a prescription for a cranial prosthesis. Contact your insurance company for instructions on coverage and reimbursement of a full cranial prosthesis.

Everythingwigs.com has introduced a new line of premium lace wigs. The Ultra Lace Wig Collection is meticulously handcrafted for the most natural look. Ultra premium Remy, virgin hair and authentic lace materials are used. The lace wigs are hand-tied with special reinforcement for more secure knots and reduced shedding. Most manufacturers use chemical processing to create curls and textures. However Ultra Lace wig curls and textures are made with an innovative high temperature technique. Less processing is used which produces a wig with more longevity and healthier looking hair.

Each wig is handcrafted with a unique characteristic. Special attention is made to create a natural contoured hairline. Ultra Lace wigs are a fuller hair density than many wigs on the market. The hair gradually thickens from the front to the back for a more life-like appearance. The Ultra Lace Wig Collection is available as in-stock and custom wigs.

Usually Indian (Chinese, Malaysian, etc.) hair colors are naturally between an off black and dark brown. Lighter browns, reds and blondes must be processed to lighten to hair color.

The lighter the hair color, the looser the curl we recommend you to select. Blonde hair does not hold tighter curls and deep waves well. Blonde hair processed for permanent curls have a slightly different feel than darker color hair. This is because the hair has been greatly processed to lighten the color and then requires extra processing for a permanent curl. The deeper the curl, the more processing is required. In essence the hair becomes over processed. That is why it is best to use loose body waves for blonde hair if you do not choose natural straight.

If you see photos of curly blonde lace wigs, most likely the curls are not permanent. It is straight hair which has been curled with a curling iron. Once you wash your wig the curl is gone and you must retool the hair with a curling iron to achieve the original look.

Tip: If you like curly blonde hair, purchase a wig with a light body wave texture. The wave is permanent and requires minimal processing. Once you apply the wig, use a curling iron or rollers to tighten the curl. It is easier to curl a wig that has a light wave applied than one than a silky straight wig. This is because the body wave holds a curl better

Tip: If you see a photo of a lace wig you would like to custom order, the texture and appearance of the wig you receive may slightly differ depending upon changes you request which are different than the photo. For example, let’s say you see a photo of a hairstyle that is the color #1B (off black) with a deep curl. You like the style but would like the same curl pattern except with a color #4 with #27 highlights. Because the hair color is lighter, the curl texture may be slightly different.

Soft Bond Adhesives

Soft bond adhesives encompass most liquid adhesives on the market. The adhesives generally last between two to four weeks. Because it is pliable, or flexible it is very comfortable to wear. A soft bond is an adhesive that does not contain the ingredient cyanoacrylate. Soft-bond adhesives are made using latex, acrylic, copolymer, or silicone. Soft bond glues are most popular and comfortable among lace wig, thin skin and toupee wearers. Examples of soft bond liquid adhesives are Ultra Hold and Safe Grip. The glue can be removed with products such as C-22 Citrus solvent and Lace Release.

Hard Bond Adhesives

Hard bond adhesives contain the ingrediate cyanoacrylate, which is the technical term for super glue. It is the active ingredient in Superglue™ and Krazy Glue™. Hard bond adhesives last longer than soft bond adhesives because it is not water based and does not break down. Hard bond adhesives are not as comfortable because it is not pliable or flexible. Like super glue, it is a permanent adhesive and remains unless you remove it. Hard bond adhesives must be removed with a hard bond adhesive remover. This glue is perfect for those with an active lifestyle.

We do not recommend liquid hard bond adhesives for lace wig wearers because the lace is very delicate and while removing the glue it is easy to damage the lace if not handled properly.

Hard bond adhesive dry very fast and leaves no or a very little room for adjustments. In short, hard bond adhesives should be applied and removed by professionals. Examples of liquid hard bond glues are Top Priority, Sensi-bond and Endura Bond.

Thin skin wigs also known as polyurethane are available in several colors to match your skin tone. Thin skin can be purchased around the perimeter or the entire wig. The thin poly material is ventilated by hand, using a looping technique so the hair will stay secure longer. Because hair is not knotted but injected into the thin skin material, there are no knots in that area and hair appears to be growing right out of the scalp.

The thin skin base looks great with a lighter density hair. Because thin skin is not made of breathable material, it is best used in cooler climates. When placed against your own skin, thin skin is invisible and virtually undetectable to touch. For those suffering from extreme hair loss, thin skin vacuum-seals to your head similar to wearing a swim cap. As long as the thin skin unit is properly fitted, it can be worn without adhesive. Other than hair loss patients, people who choose a thin skin wig cap typically have allergies to the lace, another material used to create wigs.

Some lace wig wearers prefer a curly human hair lace wig to wear it curly or flat iron it to wear straight. If you do not properly wash and care for your wig, it may tangle. A customer informed me of a method called a bleach bath to untangle human hair wigs, even when they have become matted & knotted. I tried it on one of my old wigs and it came back to life in near perfect condition.

You will need:

Bleach
Ammonia
Shampoo
Conditioner
Freezer Bag
Hot Boiling Water

In a bowl mix 1 gallon of very hot water with ¼ cup of bleach.

Place the wig in the bowl allowing it to soak for 2-3 minutes. Do not leave in longer than 3 minutes. Gently comb or brush while submerged.

Rinse the wig in warm water

In a bowl, mix ¼ cup of ammonia with 4 cups of water. Dip the wig in the mixture and rinse with warm water again.

Put wig in a freezer bag with deep conditioner (soak/submerge it totally). Make sure the bag is tightly sealed.

Submerge the freezer bag in the boiling water for about 10 mins. Finally wash the conditioner out and gently comb it with a wide tooth comb.

Do not use the bleach method often because it will eventually change the hair color.
