I shot a number of branding images for my friends at Tank late last year and what a christmas treat to receive an interactive seasons greetings in my inbox featuring one of them! It’s a lovely idea and helps to give you a little insight into the fave objects collected by the creative and clever guys and girls at the agency. Here is a screen grab of one of the linked descriptions and here is a link to the interactive version. Have a look and get into the head of your favourite Tank-er. It’s easy to see straight from the offset that Tank are about the people, its an admirable trait they posess and to me is so important and creates a more tactile and personable first impression. Also here is a link to their intro vid on the website.

Can’t say too much at this stage but I am currently shooting stills on a locally produced pair of tele movies based on novels of crime writer Peter Temple called Jack Irish, starring Guy Pearce, Marta Dusseldorp (Crownies) & Aaron Pedersen among others. Here is a recently published photo I took on set along with the article written by Karl Quinn.

Article by Karl Quinn ‘THE AGE’ 30th November 2011

THE mid-afternoon slumber of a Fitzroy side street is ripped asunder as the front door of the heritage-listed Independent Hall explodes off its hinges.

A belch of smoke erupts from the former Congregationalist church building, and a ball of flame shoots across the narrow road. Dust and debris follow in a grey, stinky ball. And there, in the middle of it all, stands Guy Pearce.

Actually, it’s not Guy Pearce, it’s someone who looks a lot like him from a distance and a lot less like him up close. But the magic of digital effects will soon plop our Emmy Award-winning hero in the middle of all this chaos and we’ll happily forget the stuntman ever existed.

Pearce is back in his home town to play Jack Irish, the hero of four novels by crime writer Peter Temple and now the titular character of a pair of telemovies being made for the ABC.

Producer Ian Collie says it was a boon to land Pearce for the role.

”Guy was always on our wish list, but we thought he would be too busy; he’s internationally respected, he’s not going to want to do TV work,” says Collie. ”But it just shows how much things have changed. Increasingly, good actors will be attracted to a TV project if the scripts and production values are there.”

Neither should be a problem: production company Essential Media is spending a healthy $5.6 million on the two 90-minute telemovies, and Andrew Knight is writing the first of them.

The cast is impressive, too: as well as Pearce, there’s Crownies star Marta Dusseldorp as Jack’s girlfriend Linda (a fictional journalist at this paper, no less), Aaron Pedersen as his sidekick Cam, and Shane Jacobsen, Colin Friels and Steve Bisley have supporting roles.

Yes, there’s a lot of TV law-and-order on those collective CVs, but this is no standard procedural. ”This is different,” says Collie. ”It’s more nuanced and layered.”

For a start, Jack Irish isn’t a cop. He’s a lawyer, sort of. ”He’s a bit of a jack of all trades, really. He does missing person searches, he’s a cabinetmaker, he’s a member of a horse-racing syndicate.” Above all, he says, ”Jack is quite thoughtful and melancholic”.

On the day The Age visits, everything is running smoothly. But the eight-week shoot got off to a rough start when Pearce was diagnosed on day one with a kidney stone; they lost four days to his operation. ”He’s in every scene, so there wasn’t much we could do about that. It’s not called Jack Irish for nothing.”

Still, it’s not all about him. The stories are set solidly in a Melbourne that’s at once recognisable and nostalgic, and the city emerges as a major character in its own right. ”It’s almost a homage, or maybe a lament, for that old Melbourne that is disappearing,” Collie says.

Jack’s favourite hangout is the Prince of Prussia, described as one of the last ungentrified pubs in Fitzroy. ”It says everything that we’re having to build it as a set in a studio,” Collie says.

Read more: http://www.theage.com.au/entertainment/tv-and-radio/local-hero-pearce-shows-the-pluck-of-irish-20111129-1o58b.html#ixzz1fnnY71nR

Here is a new set of images hot off the press of ‘The Raah Project‘ and their bespoke 16-piece classical jazz-rap orchestral ensemble set in a stunning back street rehersal hall, just days before their sold out gig at Melbourne’s Forum Theatre.

Raah embraces both traditional and new principles of jazz improvisation and arrangement, 20th century composition, song, verse and flow mixed with big band orchestration, simple pop melody, electronic techniques, hip-hop rhythms and soul sensibilities. Score (2010) Rolling Stone ★★★★★

These guys are insanely good! Thanks to Tamil and Ryan for having me along. It was probably just another rehearsal for the player’s but for the musically challenged photographer lurking amongst them it was absolutely awe inspiring..

Last week I got a mention in Ad News! The Glossy awards are out and it seems our steamy Specsavers ad got a ribbon! Thanks to SMART and to all involved. See the original post from my blog here.

The Glossy Awards recognise creativity in magazine advertising. Launched in 2011, ‘The Glossies’ have 20 categories ranging from Automotive, FMCG and Fashion, to Most Innovative Use of a Magazine, Best Use of a Magazine Website, and Integrated Campaign of the Year. Entries will be judged by a panel of ad agency creatives and marketers. Points earned by Glossy award-winners count towards the AdNews Agency Rankings.

** The original published version had the incorrect retouchers deets and so I have taken the liberty of correcting this in my posted version. Thanks to Zapp @ Agent 99 for his magic fingers!

This is a recent shoot I did with swimming legend Michael Klim. We have been talking about it for way too long & last month I decided it was time to make it happen.

I’m very lucky indeed to be surrounded by such a crack team that understood my vision and helped make it happen, by gifting their precious time & special powers to my little project without question or complaint.

Big thank you’s go to Michael for his carefree attitude and complete faith in the concept, Isamu Sawa for the loan of his gear & also his above water lighting assistance, Michael Hurren for the video work (Watch the video here), editing, assisting on the day as well as art dept, Stewie Donn for his on the spot dive training, gear & for watching my back down in the depths as well as Christopher Kelly for his added underwater support, Kate @ Rokeby for her production & scheduling prowess, Marija @ Rokeby for her help with the purchasing of the Aquatech Sports housing (Yep we bought it! What a sweet piece of kit!), Massa Cygnet for their very hot off the press track ‘Glitch Symphony’ which features in the vid & Xavier College for the use of their magnificent pool!

I hope you like the video & the pics. Lach
