The 2012 graduating class was 3-1 against Purdue. Matt put up some of his biggest numbers against our rivals including 5 goals  in 2012, 6 goals and 2 assists in 2011, and 3 goals and 2 helpers in 2010.

Congratulations to all players and coaches for earning these awards.

Carmel plays Hamilton Southeastern at 6pm on Friday. Zionsville plays Cathedral immediately after. Both games are at Carmel. The later game will be the more interesting of the two.

The championship game is Saturday which leaves little time for teams to turn around and rest and for coaches to game plan. Do you think this diminishes the chance of an upset?

WPIAL (Pittsburgh) charged several college coaches to watch the Mt. Lebanon – Shady Side Academy game. Hopefully, the IHSLA knows better.

Are you surprised by the abundance of honorable mention players? Don’t be. Only the Catholic school conference names an all-conference team.

Carmel’s Jonathan George was named first team middie and first team face off. Sounds like an All American season. How many Carmel kids will be named AA?

Second team attack Paul Garcia (Noblesville) is committed to Indiana.

Three more players on this list are coming to Indiana but as of today are undecided about joining the program.

The state finals conclude this weekend with Carmel meeting Hamilton Southeastern and Cathedral playing Zionsville. Carmel beat HSE 17-3 earlier this season. Zionsville beat Cathedral 15-11.

Carmel has allowed double digit goals only twice this season on their way to a 17-1 record. They beat New Trier 14-10 and lost to Culver’s prep team 19-6. The Hounds are the overwhelming favorites to repeat as state champs.

After trailing 8-4 at halftime, the Hoosiers came back in the second half to force overtime before losing 11-10. Senior Matt Anderson led the way with 4 goals and 2 assists. Freshman goalie Ward Weber was fantastic in relief. This was the first post season game for Indiana since 2010.

This was the first game Indiana wore their “practice” shorts.

Don’t sleep on St. Joseph’s. Zionsville-SJ might be the best quarterfinal match up of the tournament. Zionsville defeated St. Joe’s 6-3 way back on April 14th. What has changed for each team since?

We’ve yet to see Cathedral play a full 60 minutes. Their three close poles are the best defensive corp in the state but they’ll need help from the goalie and defensive middies off ball if they want to be successful. The Irish will be very dangerous if they put together a complete effort.

If Carmel is blowing out their competition, will they keep their starters in for the quarter finals and semi finals to rest them for the finals? Not just but keep them injury free? Tough call for a coaching staff trying to prevent injuries but maintain momentum.

That’s assuming Noblesville doesn’t put in an upset bid and flip the whole thing on its head.

Good luck to all teams competing in this tournament. It’s an exciting time for lacrosse in the state of Indiana.

In an effort to grow the game and increase exposure in the Hoosier state, Lacrosse Roads of America has begun covering high school lacrosse. This is our seventh top 10 poll. The playoffs approach.

This weekend, Culver’s prep team roughed up then #1 ranked Carmel (19-6) and Cathedral (17-4). Statewide LaxPower rankings took a nose dive. Carmel had previously had a 97 power ranking. They dropped to 90.48 on Sunday then rebounded to 93.88 today. Third ranked Zionsville sits at 88.39.

Tough for Indiana high school teams to compete with a national boarding school featuring an influx of Canadian talent. We’re glad Culver’s prep team withdrew from the state tournament. Better for both parties.

Ziosnville has won seven games in a row, including victories over St. Joe’s and Cathedral, since starting the season 3-4. Can Ryan Broderick and company make it eight against Grant Nice and Jesuit?

Two seniors and two freshmen named to the GRLC All Conference teams.

Congratulations to senior Matt Anderson (Heritage Christian, IN) for being named GRLC All-Conference First Team Attack.

Also, senior attackman James Maher (Montclair, NJ), freshman defender Jake Brooks (Thomas Jefferson, VA), and freshman middie Colin Donnelly (Cathedral, IN) made the Honorable Mention Team.

Matt finished with a career high 42 goals this season. He scored a 128 goals and added 25 assists over four years. James was the best feeder we had over the last two years. A lot of Matt’s goals came off of assists from James who finished his career with 36 goals and 58 assists.

We hope Jake and Colin can have a strong off season so they make the 2nd or 1st team next year as sophomores.
