So Killarney 2011 concluded on Sunday evening with Niall Smyth emerging as the winner of the Main Event. Watching him progress through the final 3 tables was memorable. He seemed chuffed with his win and so he should be. He is having an amazing year and I think we'll be hearing more of him in the near future.

There were many other highlights throughout the 4 nights that the festival lasted. Of course the Main Event is called that for a reason but credit ought to be paid to the entire organisation of the festival as a whole. Every day from early doors, with the bar opening time of 8:30am, through to 9am the following morning and cash games always in full swing. There was always something for the 600+ players & supporters to do.

Well, that didn't take long.

Niall Smyth is celebrating a great win after clearing out Eamon Doran who proved to be a more than capable Hold'em player himself.

Here is how the final hand was settled:

.....to his 4th place finish last year, by finishing 3rd this time around.

Jon re-raised Niall all in whilst on the button. Niall called showing 77 whilst Kalmar had off suit A 10.

Smyth now holds a 3 to 1 chip lead over Eamon Doran as the two proceed to settle the event heads up.

Good luck to both players. Eamon is going to need it, in several doses.

The remaining trio of players are due back at the table shortly. There isn't much between them in terms of stack size. Blinds are currently frozen at 50k/100k with 10k ante.

...and Peter Gillick, the short stack with 800k has been eliminated by Niall Smyth. Peter could hardly afford to hang around with the blinds now at 50k/100k, he shoved with 10 10 but Niall Smyth's KJ outdrew Peter's pocket pair.

Peter collects €15k for finishing 5th.

My personal tip for the title, Niall Smyth, continues to impress with some great calls. Earlier he called down a Eamon Doran river bet with just a pair of 4's he hit on the flop. Just now he has taken a considerable chunk out of Jon Kalmar's stack with an even more impressive call. Smyth called a river bet with no cards paired in hope his A6 was better than Jon's hand, he was right, again.

Chris Poulton makes a rash move and is punished by Eamon Doran. At the cut-off Poulton pushes all-in, Doran calls with pocket 9's. Poulton only has 10 6 of hearts. Doran flops a 9, by the turn Poulton has a gutshot draw but it never comes on the river.

Poulton collects €7k whilst Eamon Doran emerges as a chip leader with well over 2 million in chips.

Courtesy of Jon 'Skalie' Kalmer. Skalie was the only one to accept Gillick's all in invitation. It was a speculative call and a wry smile from Skalie indicated that he knew that he was probably calling a monster. But where there is value there is Skalie.

Skalie showed Q10 spades suited, Gillick produced the monster AA. The board double paired with x2 Jacks and x2 Two's, Queen on the river.

Matz move all in with AJ spades was called by AK of hearts. Dominated from the offset he couldn't draw the Jack. On the river Niall Smyth's AK suited hit the flush. Matz leaves in 9th position pocketing a €5k prize for his efforts.
