This week my Aunt Katherine and my cousin Barbara came for a visit. We put on a pot of coffee, and tea. I cut a few store bought pastry and we sat and had a wonderful visit. They toured my 100 year old Craftsman's Bungalow, and loved it as much as I do. We sat in the family room, which the decor is done in Native American Indian. The cabinet below I built and painted from reclaimed wood from our walls. Sorry I did not do a good cropping on the picture.

I have also played with trying to enlarge my pictures, some did,

some did not work so that why the different sizes.

This was the first time I got to use my new white tea set.

I used an old butter cover to place over the pastry.

I love the Indian tray my daughter found for me at an flea market.

For the table cloth I used a white throw my niece, Betinna gave to me. She said it reminded her of my sheep. I have kept it in an Indian basket not using it for it is so special to me.

It worked great on my new old table my daughter found at a garage sale for me a few weeks ago.

No Susan it not the type of table we spoke of,

but I did have an antique three tier one and gave it to my sister, Gloria.

This was the centerpiece I made from gourds I grew, little pie pumpkins, grape vine, sunflowers and a a wonderful big dough bowl. Using my new favorite black lanterns on each side.

Our table was set with paper plates, as I am still not back on my feet since surgery.

Miss Magpie at http://thequintessentialmagpie.blogspot.com sent me this lovely little Nippon China Bowl she found at an antique store. Tea roses as Mrs. Magpie says will be lovely in it.

I can also see perseveres, lemon curd, ect. for my tea.

Should anyone know the name of this lovely bowl pattern I would love to know.

One morning UPS came and left a package on my porch from Debbie at RoseBriar Tea Room in Eads, TN. My five year old Grandson Gage and I had so much fun opening each gift of 18 all wrapped up. Gage kept saying Granna this is like Christmas, Granna. Oh, and it was. I have so wanted to go to Miss Debbie's Tea Room so much, but I met her online through Miss Janice, and we have emailed ever since. I ordered a pair of Toile Rubber Boots from her last year after seeing the ones Miss Janice bought from Miss Debbie Gift shop. Just look at all the lovely gifts she sent to brighten my DAYS this Christmas!

Miss Debbie you did way too much, but OH the fun I had, Thanks for Brighten my days!

I love the little snowmen with the little jars that say Believe, and Joy!

Several types of teas from white, to strawberry. I love the darling tiny Tea Time Book!

I went to the bank with hubby one day, a short ride turned into a longer one as we needed some things from Walmart. A new Tractor Supply is to open in a town 20 miles away. He drove around looking for where its going to be, I spotted one of my favorite small department stores,
and this is what I found spoons, bowls, a fondue chocolate pot shaped in chocolate kisses.
Three sets of Cambridge iced tea spoons all for sixty cents!

All the Christmas was 50% off and being 51 just over the 50 mark I got to get an extra 15 % off.

I bought 12 of the little gingerbread and girl bowls for 2.50 each. I was in heaven.

For I love my peppermint and gingerbread table setting I do for Christmas Breakfast.

Now this year we will be also home for lunch, I hope to talk the girls into just sandwiches, for they will beso busy with family and dinners. To cook as my daughter Suzette did Thanksgiving.

Did I forget to mention, as Hubby waited in the truck he decided to let me shop and took off to Walmart. I came outside and he was no where to be found. lol It was so cold I went and shopped some more. Employees kept coming up and asking me if I was OK, I was about to drop. I finally decided I had better tell them I had major surgery a little while back. Just in case I did drop. lol

Yes, I know I should not have been out, but I so wanted to go into this store so bad. lol
I think doing things you love helps with the healing, even if you pay for it the next day!
I just love these bowls! They had small platters to match, I want to go and get a few of them. lol
They will probably be gone before they let me back out. lol

This is one of my favorite felted hats, I play with it at times and change the brim up by placing water on it and holding it above the wood stove. I have felted many hats in my days.

Now the felted little flower, I just adore!

Which was also sent to me from Miss Debbie at Rose BriarTea Room.

Miss Debbie has sent cards, gifts and also had lovely women whom are her friends to send me cards and prayers, as I recover from surgery.

Update since my surgery October 21, 2009:
I got an infection in one incision, Doc gave me some strong antibiotics. They have worked great and I am doing much better. I know how a new complication in my abdomen,
which is very painful. I go see Doc on Tuesday.

Thank you all for your prayers, cards and gifts. I love them all !
Thank you all for keeping me in your prayers and all the lovely gifts, cards, Emails, and comments for I do look forward to them.

I have to admit the highlight of each day is when the mail is dropped off. lol
I do love getting Happys as I call them in the mail, no matter how small.
I am very modest, now aren't I . lol
It makes my days so much brighter knowing you all are out there being such wonderful FRIENDS!
Missing YOU All, Doc says I will be better if all goes right, by February.

I Am Home Recovering With Goodies To Share

ALL THE PICTURES ARE TAKEN ON MY NEW TWO CHAIRS, AND OTTOMAN,
I GOT THIS PAST WEEK, BOUGHT SITE UNSEEN.

A few days before my surgery, I received Nell Hill's O Christmas Tree in the mail this wonderful book is from Susan, at Between Naps On The Porch.

I peaked at first but saved IT to look at daily as I recover.

Thank You Susan, I will always cherish such a lovely gift.

Inside this book is one of my favorite outdoor table settings, and lot of Christmas Decor.

This book also arrived from Christine, at Christine Home and Travel Adventures.

The day it came I got to glance at the cover, for my husband took and kept it for the day enjoying it. It is a wonderful book and I shall always love it,

if I can just keep it away from my husband. lol

Inside this book the first pictures I adore, it reminds me of my our Craftsman's Bungalow so much with the exception my roof is a lot higher, and my home is a lot larger.
I hope to paint mine white soon as we add on our screen porch on the back of our house.
We just enclosed a 16x16 screen porch on the front of the house for my weaving studio.

Yes, I would love to have the apple tree too!

My friend Kathy, picked up this pink and brown bag for me and brought it to the hospital, I planned to use it for a little knitting. But for now it holds, Doctor appointments, bandages ect.
The proceeds from this bag go to help Cancer research.

Today, my Original Painting of Tea With Katherine arrived, which I had purchased from Fifi Flower Designs, for $55.00. After Fifi honored me by picking one of my favorite teas,

I had given in in my rose garden as one of her inspirations to paint.

She even captured our big Oak trees in the background.

This Orginal Painting means so much to me for it has my Grandmother, Susan Mae,(Sudie) pink roses on my fence with the tea setting I made on my daughters wrought iron table.

If you would love to have Fifi to paint a picture for you or just buy one of Fifi's Originals or one of Fifi's many Prints of any of her Original Paintings, which she sells the prints for $20.00 or a note cards sets, she has many available paintings, just pop on over and give her a visit at Fifi Flowers Designs.

Fifi was so sweet to send me a large Original Book Mark, it is so large it would be lovely framed.

I have received Many cards too many to share, but I love them all and reread them every few days for they cheer me up. I would like to share the lovely card Pat at Back Porch Muslings sent me with a silhouette attached that can be taken off to frame. I just love it!

A few hours after I got home from the hospital, we had a Family Birthday Party for my Daughter, Suzette twenty-seventh Birthday. I was so happy to be home and join the family for her special day.

The pumpkin cake is made from cupcakes to form a circle for a jack-o- lantern.

Now that I have shared some of my goodies. I want to give you an update what is been happing with me since my October 21 surgery. A month before my surgery I lost down to 128 pounds , I now have lost down to 115 pounds and counting. lol Okay Ice cream time!
I was in surgery for eight and half hours and in recovery for two hours for they could not get me wake up. My poor hubby had to stay in a waiting room all day. Only two people could come that day, one of our daughters had planned to be with with her Daddy, but the teacher reschedule a field trip she had to help chaperon, while our other daughter was at Nursing school. My husband sat all day alone and was so tired. They finally gave him my room when they took me to recovery. Preacher stopped by and my husband said I made him pray for me twice, the last prayer by touching my heart.

My husband crashed out on the couch and knew nothing until the next morning. A few hours after I was brought to my room, my blood pressure crashed. The nurse had the Doctor calls patched in, all night long, with a thing they wear around their neck. With his help she worked so, so hard all night to save me. Poor Doc had been in surgery with me all day and called in all night long to check on me. I could tell my nurse was so scared. I remember telling her it will be Okay, what ever happens, I just wish I could wake up my husband and say Good bye. She keep the door open and was checking my blood pressure every ten minutes. Neither of us could wake my husband, but she was busy with me and I called out but too weak for him to hear me. He was so tired. The next morning I asked my nurse angel how she was, and she said I never been so scared!
She is one special nurse for everyday she was so wonderful to me, making sure I was bathe and helped pick out gowns for me to wear. Going behind the other nurses making sure everything was going great for me. I owe her a special Thank You.

I am so glad I had Preacher pray for me twice, I must have known I was going to need it.
My husband would barely leave the hospital, after a couple of days, I told him you have to go home and check on the farm. My girls were taking care of our animals, but he needed a break from the hospital. He would only be gone a three hours or so and back. And we live an hour away from the hospital!

I am now recovering at home, out of ten incisions, all are doing great but three, but they could be a lot worse. My insides are still very painful and yes it hurts to type and most of all sitting at the desk is really painful. How I wish I had a laptop, I tried to get my husband to buy me a new one, with no luck. lol I been searching for an old one, my son-in-law is really great at fixing computers. Until then I will just try and visit here and there and not write very many posts.

My Doctor took out my tumors in my lymph nodes and also took some tissue and muscle from my chest wall where a new type of cancer was trying to form. The tests are back and and all came back no cancer. I am very Thankful to have life and I am looking forward to having more days ahead of feeling better and working on my house, flower beds, Playing Dishes, and Tea Parties. All though my Doctor says I will have many more months of pain and a year of total recovery, but if I take great care of myself and be careful this could be my last MAJOR SURGERY. I may have to have some minor surgeries along the way,
but After having my 40th surgery, I so happy to hear this news. I am in hope that I shall get all of my stitches out in a couple of weeks. I have a nurse that comes twice a week to check in on me.

I sit and look at magazines, books and watch TV and sleep a lot. I have came to visit a few blogs, left no comment for the typing is hard. Miss You All So Much!

I want to Thank All Of YOU for your prayers, comments, emails, cards. and telephone calls for you all have helped me see each day so much brighter.

My Surgery and a Little Hallowen

My Bags are packed, my pic line in and YES I hate to leave you

I shall be having having a major surgery on Wednesday, October 21, 2009

I want to Thank you all that come to my blog website and for all your emails. Your thoughtfulness, and prayers. I do appreciate them so much. I tried to visit around, but I have been sick all week and not able to get all I wanted to get done. So know I have and will be reading your comments and emails.

I will not be able to type for a while, but should I talk a daughter into learning to run my blog, once I am home, in a week or so,

I will try to give you an update on how my recovery is coming.

This week I received lovely book on Christmas Decorating and Tablescapes from Susan, I peeked but shall wait to savor it as I lay in bed to recover.

Just wanted to leave you with a little something, here what sets on my tables for my daughter Birthday, and later I shall take the Halloween off and use it for Thanksgiving.

After our Mississippi Bloggers Luncheon, I made my gourds, sunflowers and pie pumpkins into an arrangement in my dough board and added a few Witches.

Very simple but I love this Witches Hat, was going to add it to a pumpkin, I just ran out of time.

Oh, but I love my new white tea set and that is a sneak peak of one of my new lanterns!

The table centerpiece I added baskets of pumkins, spiders, black birds.

While I in the hospital my daughter will have a Birthday. As in our family tradition they will carve jack-o-lanterns, roast hot dogs, and marshmallows. So I did just a little to make the table pretty before I go. I forgot to show the paper plates. I will have a cake ordered for her for this special day.

When I come home this is what will a wait me!

My grandson ensures me he will have me tea ready, I'm sure it will be ice tea. lol

Now I want to ask you all a favor! This is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

I ask that you all go make your appointments for a Mammogram and I also ask when you get the letter in the mail, ask the Doctor to give you the report, for as many as I have gotten, It will say you do not have Cancer, but it doesn't tell you of any suspicious things or tumors that might be forming. You need that report!

Tea With Katherine

As I will be going for my number fortyth surgery this Wednesday, when I return home, in a week or so. I shall be looking from my bed out my window for Tea With Katherine,
which I have purchased the original so happily from Fifi Flower Designs.
She has many note cards, prints of her paintings. Please stop by and see Fifi.

I decided to share with you my original post of my Tea Party

This morning as I looked out at my Grandmother Sudie's Pink Tea Roses, as I call them, on each side of my fence they are so lovely. I'd taken pictures of them on the fence, but wanted something special to go with my Grandmother's roses. As I looked around at all my small wooden tables,

ground is to wet! I looked over to my daughter, Suzette's porch, Yes!

I went over and we loaded her iron table set, she found on Freecyle.

Isn't she the lucky one!

My Pink Rose Garden Tea Party!

I placed a demitasse fork on a white napkin,

and added the tiny rose buds, instead of using a napkin ring.

A demitasse spoon placed on the back of the dimitasse tea cup saucer.

I painted the little purse and little old fashion shoe,

pink which before they was gold.

The purse is used in the centerpiece.

The shoe hold the place card of my three your Granddaughter.

my sister Gloria gave me on my Birthday seven years ago.

I am serving Raseberry Tea,
Becky at Holiday In The Sun sent me, with a few other surprises, I will show later!

The three teir plates are of a pink rose print, I found at Fred's Dollar Store, on sale for $4.00. I searched and searched to find another one at these stores in nearby towns, I finally found one more. This morning, I opened the boxes for the first time.
I found 3 in my china closet. lol

Today, I am serving, cinnamon cake, bite size raspberry sconces, with raspberry preserves
and choclolate dipped puffs.

Garnish: peppermint, spearmint leaves and pink tea roses.

I used to work long hours, and involved in many meetings.
Everywhere, I would take my cinnamon cake.
It was so loved and the recipe was asked for often.
I would always say it's an Old Family Secret Recipe.

This is my Cinnamon cake on my Early American Prescut Crystal cake plate.

One of my Dearest Friends, Melba would ask for the recipe often. After a few years, I finally shared my Old Family Secret Recipe with her.
I told her go to this certain Grocery Store, and no other to find the ingredients. Go to the Deli Department,
and find a Sock It To Me Cake.
Buy the cake and go out to your car,
and take the cake from the package,
and place it on your cake plate and place on the cover!

How did you like My Old Family Secret Recipe?
This week I told my daughter, Suzette my little recipe story. For I have never told anyone but Melba my Old Family Secret Recipe.
Suzette went out and purchase a Sock It To Me Cake and on the plastic cover she wrote, Family Recipe. She was so sweet to do this for me, I had a couple of tears in private.

MY SHOW & TELL - GOURDS FOR FALL

This Fall I am sharing a display of gourds
I have grown these gourds and some purchased from a gourd farm in Wrens, Georgia.

Some of the gourds are ones I have made, or friends have made.

In Wrens, Georgia the fields are covered in gourds as far as one can see.

At the Wren's, GA gourd store the gourds are stacked up in large sections by size and type of gourds.

Some are stacked in bins. Inside the small store they sell gourds the have been cleaned and

holes drilled for bird houses. You can also purchase iron hangers to make a tree of bird house

gourds. I left with a small truck load of gourds, that were from the field, on my first visit.

These are a few gourds that I have made while traveling around the Southeastern States of the USA. I wove a pine straw rim on to the rims of the gourds by drilling small holes around the rim and used the soldering iron to burn in the designs. Then I used a leather stain and a polythene spray to give the gourds a finish.
To make these gourds food safe you can use a Tung Oil, which says is only for foods.
Some Tung Oil is not safe for food.

The small gourd with the beads, hanging from the stand is a berry gourd, I am told the Native American Indians, used these to pick berries along the trails. The pine straw is from long leaf pine trees in Camden, South Carolina. I also have a cane piece cut, that I used for a handle. I picked up the pine straw from under the trees, while working in the area.

To clean the gourds, I have cut the tops off using a drill bit saw and washed in Clorox after taking out the seeds, and cleaned out the insides by soaking in water.
I also take a small abrasive sponge to clean the outsides.
I then drilled small holes around the rim of the gourd drilled and they are then ready to be woven with pine straw. I use a waxed linen or you can use raffia as many of my friends do.

My friend Hazel painted and wove this pine straw on this gourd, using raffia.

She gave it to me as a gift. I am blessed!

My friend Hazel, who is 90 years old came for a visit and she always bring show and tell.

Its so fun when she comes to visit. These gourds are her latest creations.

OLD TIME CORN SHELLER

My Simple Man Makin It DO
Simple Man is using an old corn sheller he has bolted to a wooden box.
He placed in a shucked ear of corn.

My blue Cuckoo Maran Hen has jumped into the feed box.
This hen will lay chocolate color eggs come November!
I am so excited to see the first Chocolate colored eggs!
She and her Rooster are my pride and joy!

D lives an hour away,

came early to help Lady Katherine set the table.

As each Belle arrived, they would come up and ask are you Lady Katherine?
We all hugged each other as each of the Belles arrived,
for we were all so happy to meet each other for the first time.

As I made the Centerpiece, D placed my black placemats,
the Corner Bakery Cafe's flatware, cups and napkins.

Centerpiece was made with a grapevine basket, my 90 year old friend, Hazel wove. I placed a pie pumpkin in the basket, my husband bought on at Walmart on the way to the Cafe.

I had planned to use one large pumpkin and two smaller pumpkins.

My husband, bought three pie pumpkins, and it turned out to be the greatest idea,

for there would not have been room for large pumpkins.

Did you know there is a difference in pie pumpkins and the larger ones used for Jack-o-lanterns?

I then added a bush of sunflowers, added silk leaves to the handle,

and placed gourds that I grew in the garden.

I added two pie pumpkins on each side of the basket.

Just before the luncheon, I went to Ross to purchase two more of my black,

round sea grass placemats, which I did not find. I did find two premade fall arrangements filled with fall leaves, and pumpkins. I placed my two new black lanterns,

from Ross on each side of the fall arrangements.

the glass on each side of the lantern is a different color, red, green, yellow, and blue.

Yes, I forgot to lite the lanterns, everyone were arriving just as D and I were putting up all the extra things I had brought. I had a large trash bag full of extra things to use, I was going to make a fall arrangement the day before. I had my grandchildren all day, so I just washed gourds,
and decided I would just have to wing this table setting!
With D's help I think we did, What do you think?

I missed out getting in some of the photos for the group of ladies behind our table, wanted to know what was going on. I explained we were meeting for the first time and were bloggers on the internet. They loved the table and wanted my email address and website address, for they want to join in on the fun.

For the placemat setting on each end, I used a black cloth placemat.
I bought At Ross just before the Luncheon.

Christine brought each Belle a goody bag packed with wonderful fudge. My husband ate three bags of it since the luncheon. I did get to get two pieces of the Vanilla Pecan Fudge, and it was divine!

There was lots of talk and lots of cameras being held out to each other and our husbands

We had so much fun! We had some Belles that did not get to come,
Carol at The Writer's Porch was sick, we thought she might be lost.
We had you a Chocolate Cake for your Birthday, Carol!
All the other Mississippi Magnolia Southern Belles You were missed!

We did not get to shop, for we all stayed at the Corner Bakery Cafe for three hours.
There was a lot of talk, a lot of laughter, and good food!
Just a lot of fun!

COCA COLA PARTY TABLE SETTING

Coca Cola Centerpiece

An old milking bucket used by my husband's Grandfather,

is filled with ice and Small Glass bottles Of Coca Colas. A faux stick of dynamite, my grandchildren gave him, a little old metal car, an old Coca Cola Bottle that was made in Laurel, Mississippi. Chef announcing Simple Man's Birthday.

The table is set using: a vinyl check cloth, my white Gathering Dishes:

dessert plate, red paper plate, and a white dinner plate for a charger, and red paper napkins

The Grandchildren had so much fun opening all the Coca Colas.

Using our old Coca Cola Machine. We have three Coca Cola Machines. Which they have used coins to get a Coca Cola in a Can. This was a treat to open the glass bottles!

Yes, one granddaughter is missing for she was sick this day.

Granpappy loves his Coca Cola with peanuts, and the grandson's too!

In this Collage is a print, my husband loves of an old store with signs. The tray is a Coca Cola tray, My daughter Suzette brought from a Flea Market, filled with Coca Cola Glasses.

I forgot to add the Coca Cola Glasses are filled with vanilla ice cream and Coca Cola, to make Coke Floats, and were loved by all!

For my husband Birthday Cake, I made his most favorite in the world.

Simple : Angel Food Cake, and Cherry Pie Filling in a can, from the Market

Slice in half, taking out the cake bread on each slice around the middle

save those cake bread crumbs

Add the cake crumbs to the center hole,

pour cherry pie filling all around the inside

Place the top back on to the bottom, and cover with cherry pie filling

Party food: long sandwiches of ham, turkey, cheeses, tomatoes.
Chips, sour cream and onion dip
peanuts for those Coca Cocas,
Cheese Cake Sampler, another of my husband favorites

Here the Birthday cake,
yes I ran short on the pie filling, but he still loved it!

A Cloche Centerpiece

Bouquet of Flowers, were bridemaid's bouquet at my daughter wedding,

placed in a over turn jar, which has a hole in it,

onto a crystal platter with hand painted pink roses from shower curtains holders.

This cloche was placed on a Early American Prescut Crystal cake stand,

turned upside down, with a slipper inside.

This Cloche has a purse inside, the picture little off, with the etching on the cloche.

I wanted to join the Party today, I have a whole table set with crystal,
but did not get it all completed,
SO THIS IS A TASTE OF WHAT IS TO COME!

I want to Thank the Ladies at Peebles in Forest, Mississippi for helping me find these two Cloches!

Calling all Mississippi Magnolia Southern Belles and Friends!

Here I sit looking at the Menu Chef Jon has for me.

I am ready to order, but I have not heard from you!

Upon my side board sits, a red basket of egg gourds, a Rooster Chef to count how many fresh eggs laid daily, a sign I painted many years ago, behind it sits of my new lanterns. A black and white metal Rooster, Sunflowers, and Rooster soup bowl on a stack of wheat saucers.

This shelf was stained and did hang above my stove.

Story goes hubby threw it out, after a few months in the rain, with me looking everywhere for it.

Hubby told me it was in the junk pile, he helped nail it back together.

I did a brown and white crackled finish on this now hutch, which I use to serve Beverages.

This garage sale find, iron and wicker shelf bought for $1.00.

bought at the Valentine's Auction with a set of dishes.

The coffee pot was bought with the wheat dishes all for $20.00.

This is one of my favorite Roosters. It is wooden and I bought it on my last trip home from working and traveling with an aviation company. Three years ago, from Cracker Barrel for $6.00.

for I have little chicks hatching out of the blue and green eggs.

Notice the egg close to the front, it is hatching at this moment.

My large Rooster, I bought years ago from Landrum's, just outside of Laurel, Mississippi.

Where I use to demonstrate weaving on my loom, and spinning on my spinning wheel.

The day after Thanksgiving every year.

My daughter bought the egg holder from a garage sale, I think it use to be a spice rack.

A little sign I painted years ago.

Two smaller roosters one each side, and the white Roosters are salt and pepper shakers.

Can you tell which eggs are real or faux?

My new antique Easy washing machine
My husband brought home to me,

after buying a handmade saw mill from Craig's List, he was given this Easy Washing Machine. He knew I would be so Happy! For I love all things old!

This Easy Washing Machine is not cleaned up yet,

but I will be adding it to my laundry room, as decoration!

TEA SAMPLING- VANILLA CREAM TEA

TEA For SAMPLING: Compliments of Vintage Tea

Yes, this is the tea I have been searching for! I just love vanilla cream tea, with breakfast or anything sweet. It is the perfect combination to go with cake, cookies, cinnamon raisin bread, just anything you like. I recomend this tea highly. My Old Country Roses tea cup in one, holds almost two cups of tea, I brought my water to a rolling boil, and poured a little in the tea pot to warm , poured it out and added two full teaspoons of vanilla cream tea and filled the tea pot with water. I let it steep six minutes, I know you are not to go by color of the tea, but I could not help myself, for I like my tea strong. I used a strainer and added sugar to my taste and just a little milk. Vintage tea's vanilla cream tea turned out to be the tea that I love. Thanks to Vintage Tea for helping me find my vanilla cream tea that, I have been searching for, since I lost contact with the company in Florida, where I was purchasing my tea.

One of my pink roses floating in crystal rocks in a crystal bowl,with little glass diamonds laying all around. A burgundy place mat on top of my crocheted table cloth, that was made by me long ago,and my lovely little tea silver tea strainer.

All upon my antique round table, with my Royal Albert Country Roses China.

With my vanilla cream tea, a simple strawberry tart, cut in squares, topped with Smucker's strawberry preserves. One of my favorite little books,

WISDOM for the way, by Charles R. Swindoll .

All ready to relax with my tea and little book.

I am now ready to taste Vintage Tea's vanilla cream tea.

In my parlor with my beloved teapot in one and my favorite vanilla cream tea. My favorite corner! is now being replaced now with book shelves. Can't wait to show you! My corner will still be there just in reach of a favorite book!

A Nest of Blue, Green, and White Eggs

Sorry, I have not found the hens they lay the Chocolate Color Eggs, Yet!

Diamond prefers to sit on the eggs in a milk crate,

Yes, I do have a nesting box, but not one hen wants to lay in it!

Here is a chicken coop, my hubby put together, from old rabbit pens.

I got rabbit pens free, and using them for a second time around, for raising the little chicks in, until they are large enough to go in the chicken run.

Every Morning I am greeted by my little chicks at the door,

just waiting to fly onto my arms.

This little chick loves to be held, just like me! lol

This bantam sea bright chick, loves to stand on the water jar.

Yes, the chick is still posing for you.

Now, my hubby took down my old chicken house.

This chicken run is for temporary housing.

Until the another chicken house gets built. Where are the chickens?

Most of my chickens are free range,

so they are out and about.

This hen lays pink, green, and blue eggs.

Can you see her little chick riding on her back?

Here are my Bantams chicks that greet me at the door.

The black are Old English Bantams,

the brown and black are Sea bright Bantams

The speckled color chicks are Molted Bantams.

We've had several death in our family.

I been out state twice, then on a few other trips out of town,

and got to fit in some shopping!

I am enjoying the outdoors, and working on many projects in our home.

Please know I am doing OK, for I have a lot to do before my next major surgery.

WHITE DISH TREASURES

White Treasures Found!

Today my daughter found four plates, two salad plates, and three serving bowls, in the pattern of her Great Grandmother's every day dishes, for $7.50

Do you remember these white dishes? I found in Hubbys Grandmother's cabinet. He had not seen them since he was a little boy. I had them saved for years,

took them out of storage and cleaned them up on Valentines Morning.

Here are Hubby Grandmothers dishes I saved from the bulldozer!

They are inside the bottom blue shelves, Remember I made this buffet, from the old kitchen islands two drawers.

My daughter, Suzette was so excited for these will be her dishes to go with her Great Grandmother's pieces. We did not have any serving bowls of this pattern. With a little cleaning up they will sparkle.

I shall get to keep them and use them for a while.

Today At How Sweet The Sound, Beverly Asked The Question:

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I loved this question, for as a young girl, I read novels about the olden days, and how the ladies would have a rose garden and go out and pick flowers for their homes. They would have tea in their parlor, while recieving guest, they would do needle work, knitting, and have a castle wheel just for the parlor to spin on.

I took Vocational Training in Floral Design in School, worked in a Florist for hands on training. I also took a cake decorating class, and helped a caterer on weekends. I sold Home Interior, took a Interior Design Course. I learned to spin on a spinning wheel, knit, needle work, and many other things.

I think during all this time, maybe I was trying to work at being a Lady some day, for that is what I wanted to achive, as a young girl.

I do have my Parlor now, and working on having a Rose Garden.

I wonder have I achieved my dream of being a Lady?

MINI CUPCAKE PLATES - Here's how to make 'em

Making Mini Cup Cake Plates with glue, candle sticks,

candle holders, and shower curtian hooks.

I bought at Dollar Tree:

clear glass candle sticks

round green, and blue candle holders in the boxes, with tea candles

FromWalmart: glue made for glass

From Dollar Tree I bought:

a clear glass round candle holder

From Ross I bought:

pink hand painted roses,

which are shower curtian hooks, twelve for $4.00

I glued the glass candle stick to

the bottom of the round green tea candle dish

Let it set for 24 hours

I took off the shower curtian hook, and cleaned off the glue from the pink hand painted roses

I glued the pink rose to the over turned round clear glass candle holder

Let it set for 24 hours

The mini cup plate plates were so easy to make, and at very little cost.

I made twelve

I just love my mini cup cake plate!

CHINA CABINET WALL CLOSET

This was a bedroom off the kitchen, The clothes closet, was on the right, with two open shelves above the closet, two plank doors, one for hanging clothes and the other one had built in shelves. We took down one door, and added shelves in it. The wooden plank door on the right stayed the same. My husband built shelves in the clothes hanging closet and added shelves out to the doorway. We the took two old windows from the kitchen and cut them down to fit the upper shelves. Took the old original French doors, that were in between the family room and old dinning room. Painted them . I still need to find one more window to make on more door.

My husband and I built the chandelier, from three garage sale lamps, one chandelier, and an antique bowl that had a hole in it an a glass piece lamp that is in the pattern of my Early American Prescut Crystal, one lamp shade. I have now silver leafed the chandelier and trying to decide if the lamp goes or I add another glass piece for the bottom light.

Do you like the shade, or just image a glass and smoked antique light at the bottom.

Now for this make over notice the left side of the cabinet where the brooms.

In place of the brooms,

we built shelves down the end of the china closet.

Now filled with some of my collection of pewter, silver, and aluminum.

Slight adjustment needs to be made!

My silver and pewter pitcher and coffee/tea pots will not sit on the shelf!

SOUTHERN HOME STYLE TABLE SETTING

This One Is For You Daddy!

Daddy sat down at the table, and said: This is a Lawyer's Table!
I said, Daddy this is yours and Mama table.
He said, the table is set Fancy!
I had to hold back my laugh, and smiled.

For my daughter, Suzette and I
had tried so hard to give Daddy a southern home style setting,
like the ones Mama use to make, when I was a little girl.

My Daddy came for a visit, he had been outside in the heat for an hour with my husband, working on his truck. Living in the country ,

I never know someone is here unless they come to the door!

My Daddy came in with my husband, He was weak and not feeling well, knowing it was lunch time and Daddy is a diabetic. While Daddy was cooling off with a drink and resting. I went to kitchen!

Lucky I had put up fresh corn and peas the night before, and had some cooked!

I called my daughter, Suzette, who live next door, What do you have we can fix fast, we do not have time to thaw out chicken. She calls back, steak fingers, I said yes! Suzette cooked at her house the steak fingers, gravy, and cornbread,

while I made the other food.

With Suzette help we set the table, FAST with the food, and dishes.

Taking off the setting I had on the table, and leaving the napkins,

( forgetting she was to take pictures,)

and just put dishes everywhere! lol

I have finished silver leafing the chandelier,

hubby has to add the bottom light back.

I can't believe I am going to show you a picture of me with no make up on,

I ran and put a little lipstick on, while Suzette took pictures!

Now you can see, my Hubby took a dinner plate and set at the end of the table!

Here I am taking the napkin out for my Daddy,

Daddy, I enjoyed your visit so much!

I wish I could have had fried chicken for you, just like Mama use to do!

Now remember this meal was made and the table set in 30 minutes!

I used my new white gravy boat from Marshall's cost $5.00, and White Gathering platter, is from my 64 piece set from Big Lots.

All the bowl I have collected for years.

I built from the wood we took off our walls of our Craftsman's Bungalow. I painted it with my favorite Gentleman's Blue Milk Paint, and stained the top and bottom shelf with Red Mahogany Stain. The chairs all garage sale finds cost $2.00 for the cream chairs and $3.00 for the stained chairs. The bench is an old church pew, my husband cut down. I paid $10.00 for the bench.

A DAY SPENT WITH THE LITTLE RED HEN BOOK

GRAN PAPPY PICKED THE WHEAT FROM THE FIELD

This was a very fun day with my grandson's and a very well teaching day too. They enjoyed it so much and Granna did too!

My grandson's, Creighton and Gage,
picked the wheat's grain from the stalk.

We took turns pounding the wheat grains to make the flour.

My grandson's and I read the book THE LITTLE RED HEN.
After reading the book:
I asked my grandson's, now who will help me pick the grain from the wheat, they chimed in we will, who will help me make the flour, they chimed in we will, now who will help me bake little cakes, they chimed in we will, now who will help me eat the cake, they chimed in we will, at last, who will help me clean up the dishes,
they chimed we will.

As you can see we did not make enough flour for our cake, my grandson's wanted to know how the mix turn chocolate. I had to do a little fudgeing to sneak in a chocolate cake mix and by having a chocolate syrup near by and we added a little bit.

They loved adding the eggs, and milk, and oil. The biggest fun was when they spooned the mix into the mini cupcake pan. They watched the clock while the cake was baking. Another teaching process, that was just plain and simple fun to them.

Yes, we were careful and washed our hands,
after handling the eggs.
Our table is set to eat the little cakes,
off the plate!

I wish everyday could be as this day.
With my little grandson's helping hands!

The boys were staying the day.
Such a wonderful day spent with my Grandsons.

Here is an updated photo of my kitchen above the stove.

I cut boards and painted the shelves in my favorite Gentleman's blue. Hubby put the shelves together for me. For the vertical shelf, I placed the boards just right to fit each old pieces, I have collected,
On top of this shelf is some kind of grinder, Grind O Mat, not sure what it was used for, plus a wire rooster basket.

On third shelf has a metal French fry cutter, ( I bought in Tappahannock,VA at the Antique Mall), it is like the one I used as a young girl. I just loved making French fries with this cutter!

Second shelf holds a fruit juicer, it has a spout to pour out the juice, found this juicer in our Craftsman's Bungalow!

The Fourth shelf holds my Husband's family Juice King, they always squeezed lemons and oranges in this old machine.

The fifth shelf holds an old coffee pot, that was used on the stove eye to make coffee, a garage sale find. A new Folgers coffee tin sits beside the coffee pot.
For the shelf above my old 1950 stove, I used a leaf from an old round table. I added a board across the front so thing would not fall off onto the stove. My husband added the braces to mimic the look of his grandparents mantel which is hung above a doorway to hold my old tins. The shelf holds old enamel blue pots,pans, a roaster, and a jar of Apple Cider, from Williamsburg, VA.
Wish I had a jar of Apple Cider now! It was so good!

Notice my trash can, it's a laundry basket!
Just above the stove, I had a blacksmith hand forged rack and hangers to hold my spatulas. Behind it I added a rooster rack and two cast iron larger rooster at each end.
I spray painted the black iron shelves, bought from a yard sale.
The red stoneware, gift from my daughter, Suzette, came from a yard sale. Does she know where I love to shop? lol

A SPOT OF TEA FOR ME

THIS MORNING WHILE WAITING ON MY TEA

I heard this pecking sound at the door. Thinking it was my granddaughter, Hannah,who is just a bit little to open the door. Surprise, I had a few visitors at the back door.

My hens came for a visit to share my tea!

My daughter Suzette, bought these for me at Walmart, Frozen Blueberry Tea Biscuits. There is nothing like homemade but these do the trick if someone comes to visit,
or just to go with A SPOT OF TEA FOR ME.

The chicken lamp holds a candle, and was given to me by my daughter, Suzette, who found it at a garage sale.
The table, once was a child school desk, is set and ready for me, but my little visitors are still at the door staring at me.

The tea biscuits turned out great!
Here is my rooster tray, from Crackle Barrel and my rooster tea set, from Walmart.

I am still using my favorite vanilla cream tea, Yes, I added the milk, I love the antique little white creamer, I used it for a fresh hydrangea from my daughter Jennifer's flower garden. The tea tin, I bought two! I found at the Antique Mall in Tappahannock, VA and my tea kettle came from Quincy, La its brand new.

I just simply love enamel white and black cookware.

As you can see my kitchen is full of roosters, my favorite is the one above the staircase, it says Country Life, and Good Morning.

PS: Not to worry,

I shared a few crumbs with my little visitors at the door.

TOMATO CANNING CHOW CHOW

Tomato Garden

My husband Terry tied up his tomato plants, they reached eight feet tall this summer,

While canning the tomato's I found an old, old Ball Canning Recipe book, I have to have my glass of ice tea.

More jars washed and ready to go, these are the old Mayonnaise Glass Jars.
I got these from my 90 year old neighbors house after she had pasted away.

Summer's Bounty

Canned jars of Chow Chow and more Tomatoes ready to cook.

The small tomato garden made 200 pounds of tomatoes. Which we shared with friends and neighbors. My Daddy came and picked up about 40 pounds of Tomatoes and Watermelons and Okra.
He even went home with a rooster and a hen, after seeing our farm fresh eggs.

My Daddy's Chow Chow Recipe

UTENCILS NEEDED

Canner, glass jars, jar lids and rings,

tongs, jar holder, towel,

large enamel pot to cook tomatoes,

measuring spoons and cup

FROM THE PANTRY

4 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon

1 teaspoon allspice

3 cups of apple cider vinegar

1 teaspoon ground red pepper

3 cups sugar - this made it a little too sweet

FROM THE GARDEN

25 large tomatoes

10 hot fresh peppers - I used jalapeno

4 large bell peppers

3 large coarse cut yellow onions

Blancing the Tomatoes

In large pot, cook on high, then to medium,drain off water, peel the skin off and core the tomatoes.

In large mixing bowl add all ingredients from the pantry and stir. Taste to see if mixture is hot enough.

In large enamel pot bring mixture to boil, then cook on medium, for about 1&1/2 to 2 hours until thick and onions and peppers are soft.

Tips:

Next time I will use half the sugar as it was a little sweet for our taste, If mixture is too thick in beginning, add a little water. To keep mixture from boiling over you can add 1 tablespoon of margarine. When splitting the hot pepper and taking out the seeds, you my want to use gloves, I didn't and my hands burned for hours.

Makes about 12 pints

Hot Bath

While the tomato mixture is cooking. Using a canner pot, add clean jars and cover with water, bring almost to rolling boil and turn down temperture. About 10 minutes before the tomato mixture is done, I add the rings and the caps. Take out a jar with tongs or jar holder and using a funnel fill the mixture to 1/ 2 inch from the top. Make sure to wipe off any spills around the top of the jar, before adding the lid and ring. Use the tongs and take the lid placing it on the jar and then add ring. I usually turn my jars upside down over night and turn up the next morning. This makes the heat from the mixture and lid, makes the vacum seal of lid to the jar.

My husband turned the jars over in 4 hours and checked for the seal., by tapping on the lid. If the lid moves up and down, it needs to go in the fridge. Enjoy on your peas and cornbread.

Iced Tea With a Tomato Sandwich

I enjoyed a glass of ice tea, a tomato sandwich, homemade salsa, chips, and cinnamon nut bread. My sister, Doris gave me the lovely bowl, where I place an arrangement of magnolia and grapes.

My friend Hazel always brings such wonderful Happy's, as I call them, to brighten my day! On her last visit she brought the cinnamon nut bread. Which I topped with dream whip and homemade fig preserves. My husband does not care much for cake or bread , but he loves Hazel's cinnamon nut bread. As you can see its almost gone. The fig preserves we canned, my grandchildren do love them so.

The tomato sandwich is made from home grown tomatoes with mayonnaise,salt, pepper, and bread. Thats All! I just love sitting down to a good tasting home grown tomato sandwich! Don't You?.

BUFFET MAKE OVER SUMMER TABLESETTING

I live in a near 100 year old Craftsman's Bungalow, I love all things old and handmade. I have a Dream Buffet I want so much, to match my China Cabinet. Until I find it I have decided to make do with one I have put together, then later on it can be used in my Weaving and Spinning Studio. I went over to my friend Lene's to take a before picture of my Buffet, as she has one like mine started out.

After taking a job traveling with an Aviation Company, I had my daughters to close my Nail Salon. With the help of their friends, they moved all my things out. A lot of items got broken from falling off the trucks, my table iron got twisted and broken.

Lene's Buffet Table

We cut off the top iron and mirror, the iron between the legs, and straighten the legs. I gave a coat of spray paint, in the color of my china closet. Stained the wood top a darker color.

I took two drawers that came from the old island in the kitchen, painted the drawers in my favorite Gentleman's Blue.

Placed the two drawers, upside down on the Buffet Table, and added a bench I painted and stained, made from the wood we took off our walls, place the bench underneath for extra seating or to hold a few basket or trays. I added a board, in the middle of two drawers to attach the two drawers together to make a hutch type shelf, and added a board in the middle of each drawer for shelves. I also added a small piece of wood to hold in my plates on the shelves.

View of dishes in the top of the Buffet, and the plate rack I made above to hold chargers, and platters. I got six more of the French black and white plates added those behind the bowls I got from the Valentine's Auction I went to. Inside the shelves are my husband's Grandmother's everyday dishes.

This is my total make over using different patterns of white dishes. You may notice the trim is not up yet, but it not stopping me from putting all my things together. Yes, the ceilings are all wood as are the floors. My husband is sheet rocking most of our home, but I get to keep a few rooms with the wood walls. I want to keep my ceiling wood. The tray underneath the bench I bought at the annual garage sale for $5.00, the baskets were $1.00 each.

My Mother's table, the bench bought from a old church for $10.00, Which my husband has cut down the bench, and still needs to add back the other arm. Then I shall cover all the seats in blue and white toile. My rug was a gift from my sister, Doris.

Place setting with blue chargers, I have set of twelve of the blue chargers, I bought from a thrift shop in Georgia. The blue stemware bought in South Carolina.
Napkin and napkin rings from a garage sale.
Flatware bought many years ago. The floral dinner plate, I bought for 25 cents each from a garage sale. I had planned on using them in a flower bed, but they made it to the table instead!

My centerpiece is a basket with silk periwinkle blue rose petals, I glued on to cover the basket. I used this basket as a rice girl basket in my daughter, Jennifer's Wedding. To use as my centerpiece, on one side of the basket I added a bouquet of hydrangeas, on the other side I made a bird nest out of Spanish moss, my daughter Suzette picked from a tree. Added a few birds I got from Dollar Tree for four for a dollar.

In the corner is a iron and wicker corner shelf, cost $1.00 at garage sale. The wine chalk board was $3.00. You can see a peak of my chandelier that getting silver leafed at this moment.
